    There is actually a review which deals with that question, I just can't find it right now... I remember the test being positive about it, ranking among the best, if not the best, in a power efficiency rating !(drawn power divided through battery life, and somehow taking account of the charging time too)

    If no suprise is showing up on the market until Friday, I'll be a happy owner of a 1810TZ. :cool:

    FYI, EU model naming convention for the 1810TZ series:

    "413G32N" Models, list price €599
    LX.PK102.002 = white + UMTS + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM

    LX.PJ602.002 = blue + umts + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM
    LX.PJ702.001 = black + umts + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM
    LX.PJ802.001 = red + umts + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM

    "412G25N" Models, list price €499
    LX.PJ302.009 = blue + 250GB HDD + 2GB RAM
    LX.PJ402.010 = red + 250GB HDD + 2GB RAM
    LX.PJ502.064 = black + 250GB HDD + 2GB RAM

    The red one is the only one I wouldn't take. Blue, black and white are all about equal to me. White is a bit more equal.

    I canceled my order at notebook.de and ordered at cyberport.de (free shipping and IMO the best store in DE).

    Thinking about it, at this point I might even take red...

    Indeed, obviously the notebook's PSU can't communicate with the adapter to determine the current it's allowed to draw. I still have the AC adapter of my current Acer and it's a 65W. If the 30W gets too hot for my liking I will check if my plug/voltage is compatible. Thanks again, much appreciated.

    Awesome! I'll try to find it. If you happen to stumble over it please post a link though. I was just taken aback by that ASUS UL30 review, even more so as its charge time is horrible when under load and gets hot on top of 10W more leeway on the adapter side. So either its efficiency is horrible or they're doing something wrong.

    I am almost sure, that I saw a comparison chart the last time I got on that site - it's gone though, so I might be wrong. Anyway, there are some words about the topic in questions! (which might be not enough for you though, sorry :()

    Hi there,

    If everything is OK, I'm getting the 1810tz with the SU4100, 3gb ram and 250 HDD tomorrow. Black.

    I'm in spain, and I hope the unit comes with the large 5600mAh battery and Intel wifi chipset, not the 4400 and some atheros chipset.

    I'm planning on uninstalling all the installed bloatware and then install Ubuntu.

    I'll report back tomorrow. If you want to ask any questions, I'll try to reply as soon as possible.

    Patrick

    Looks like "The Egg" (U.S.) finally dropped the 1810TZ (AS1810TZ-4013) "Diamond Black" SKU to the "correct" price of $549.99 USD (saying the MSRP is $599.99 USD)... Sapphire Blue still shows $599.99 USD. No sign of the 1810T.

    Cheers,

    Don't sweat it, thanks for the link. Very thorough review.

    Some rambling here, so feel free to skip it everyone.

    I was slightly confused by this statement in their review:
    "It took 5 hours and 29 minutes to fully recharge, and used a total of 9146.2 watts during that time."

    5hrs 29mins seems a lot to me. Also the 9146.2 watts don't make sense, I guess they meant 9146.2 Wmins which averages to 27.8W and puts us right inside the 30W rating of the AC adapter. I guess it doesn't matter given one charge lasts over 8 hours with normal usage, but considering it's a run-of-the-mill 6 cell battery 5.5 hrs surely sets a new (negative) charge time record for this kind of battery. I have no idea why they severely restricted the charging current. I guess the idea was to provide a full day's worth of charge and shift the recharge to an overnight process, but I still have hope that the 5.5 hrs figure was with an idling system and the charge time improves at least to under 3 hrs while the notebook's turned off.

    Not a deal breaker, just slightly disappointed. I guess I will order it in the next couple of days barring any unforeseen events as the features are just unbeatable at this price point.

    Hmm, I have 1410 and battery recharges in roughly 3h while I surf the web on WiFi. I assume it could recharge in about 2h if I power it off.

    Nah. Not really. 5100/5150 is similar to the 1000 except it adds the 5 GHz band. The 2.4 GHz band where I live is *crowded* so I use the 5 GHz 802.11n band for WiFi. And the difference between the 5100 and 5150 is the 5150 has WiMax support.

    Absolutely nothing. I just need 5 GHz support. =)

    More Info: http://download.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/wireless/320663_5150.pdf

    Only problem is I haven't seen *anywhere* that carries the half-mini Intel WiFi 51xx or 53xx series yet even though Intel shows SKU's for all versions.

    Cheers,
    Kermee

    Hi,

    has anyone used the HDMI output at 1080p resolution and how did it worked? Mine gets all blurry because of some insane scaling the Intel Graphics Accelerator drivers apply, there is even an slider to change the scaling (for what?).

    I assume that if I output a certain resolution through HDMI, and the display device supports it, there should be no reason for any kind of scaling between, right? The display device I used is a Sony TV, and my desktop computer works just fine at 1080p with it.

    I believe that I have the latest drivers installed, so does anyone know any workaround to fix this or is this one of these clever features that was not ever intended to work properly? And please at least confirm if yours suffer from the same problem so that I can narrow down the root cause of this problem :)

    Hi,

    i found a config which nobody mentioned until now as far as i know..I can hardly wait since the standard dual core config ( Pentium Dual-Core SU4100 2x 1.30GHz • 2048MB • 250GB ) is available now, but for 60€ more this is a nice offer: 1810T-734G32N Timeline / Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 / 4GB..It is listed for 565€, but not available:

    http://www.xitra24.de/eshop.php?action=article_detail&rid=gh&s_supplier_aid=1435656

    http://www.built-direkt.de/eshop.ph...l&shop=psm&campaign=gh&s_supplier_aid=1435656

    Any info on this configuration? der_Mali? :)

    Yes, nice WIFI, but I finally have the answer to my WWAN plug-in question, which is a definate NO... :mad:

    Looks like they cut all possible corners on both the 1810T and 1810TZ models... :rolleyes:

    So for me, it's the "extended" model (3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, BT, 3G) or nothing...

    Nice catch! Looks like today ("Oct 22nd") will put a lot more Note/Netbooks on the online vendor map!

    I also saw the "734G32N" model in my area (AT) but the description may not be complete:

    ACER LX.SA202.008
    ACER Notebook Aspire 1810T-734G32N Timeline /Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 / 4GB / 11,6 / Intel GMA 4500MHD / 320GB / 7HP64

    At least I hope it's not complete, because there's no mention of BT nor 3G... :-/ However, the "73" is for the CPU designation, and "4G" is obviously for the 4GB RAM and finally the "32" is for the 320GB HDD.... .

    I'm finally starting to understand ACER's "model-package" naming conventions...

    p.s. (form my prior post):
    413G32N Models (€599+)
    LX.PK102.002 = white + UMTS + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM

    LX.PJ602.002 = blue + umts + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM
    LX.PJ702.001 = black + umts + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM
    LX.PJ802.001 = red + umts + 320GB HDD + 3GB RAM

    412G25N Models (€499+)
    LX.PJ302.009 = blue + 250GB HDD + 2GB RAM
    LX.PJ402.010 = red + 250GB HDD + 2GB RAM
    LX.PJ502.064 = black + 250GB HDD + 2GB RAM

    hi there!

    here I am, typing from my new 1810tz!! I'm currently resizing the windows partition to install ubuntu, and I've noticed, basically, 2 things:

    1.- The cpu seems to only scale between 1,3GHz and 1,2GHz, while my girlfriends SU3500 would go down to 800MHz.
    2.- The processor seems to lack the deeper sleep states, and only C1 and C2 are present. That means greater power drawning when the proc is idle.

    I'll try to check both issues under Win 7 and see what I get there. It's a bit dissapointing, but I guess that's what you get with the Pentium Dual Core line-up.

    However, the machine is really pretty, fast and responsive. I'm in a hurry now, will do more tests and report.

    Will you check the following:

    1. Full screen HQ YouTube Video.
    2. Power consumption in Ubuntu (love UNR by the way). I use PowerTop to monitor and adjust Linux power consumption.

    Congrats on your new 1810TZ :D
    Hmm... maybe the SU4100 however incoroporates the so-called "dynamic" core control scheme where it shuts down one of the cores to save power if there is no multi-core work available... :confused:

    I'm not an expert in this area, but I hope that's the case. Personally, I'd rather be able to save energy by shuting down an unused core than by cutting clocks... :-/

    So I just noticed that according to the Ark (which admittedly seems rather suspect), the SU2300 / SU7300 / SU4100 / SU3500 all have the same die size and the same number of transistors (107mm^2 / 410million). So either Intel has posted incorrect information, or they're counting disabled transistors for some of the parts.

    If those numbers are right they're using 6MB L2 / Dual Core 45nm dies (same as E8x00 desktop & T9x00 mobile chips) for all these chips and have disabled parts of them to create these CULV chips.

    I'm not too sure about that. Windows likes to dynamically change the affinity of processes, so I can't see turning off "unused" cores actually saving any power because none of the cores will ever be unused.

    So what are the actual differences between the new 1410 model and the 1810t?

    Better battery? NO 3g? Less memory?

    Amazon.com says that the 1410 has an 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 Processor.
    The word Celeron makes me worry a bit , should i?

    I mean, memory is just fine, easy upgradable, don`t care about the HDD much, so 1410 would be a wise choice for me
    Are any other things different?

    I would originally go for the 1810t but just saw that i have to wait 3 to 5 weeks for one from amazon (all already gone!)

    Hmm, thats a bummer because I just upgraded my home with 5 GHz -- I'm glad that I picked a Netgear WNDR3700 with simultaneous dual-band (needed the 2.4 band for the Iphone) for exactly the same reason as yours. Oh well, it isn't a problem I can't live with, but as someone else said, they had to cut corners somewhere -- I'm just glad they didn't leave out the bluetooth/HDMI.

    I ordered the 1810T from J&R on 10/19/09. Does anyone know if these are supposed to ship out today or will it take a few days for the retailers to get them in stock since it was just released today?

    I'd ordered from Amazon on 10/18. It says shipping soon, which means Amazon has it in stock, and also shows the expected delivery date as tomorrow (which I paid for, just to be safe against being binned into "will ship in 3-5 weeks" category, which is how the 1810t shows up now). So, I think JR will have it in stock for you as well, since you signed up pretty early.

    A part of me hoped, that this configuration would never hit Germany/Austria...
    I don't want to wait anymore, but... it's probably worth it?!?!?!?!?!?! I'd like to upgrade the RAM anyway, which is about 30€ for 2 GB in austria. That means roughly 40-50€ for the better CPU and HDD... *sigh*

    We don't know when this will be available at all, right?

    Might be an opportunity in disguise.

    Back then, some early buyers of the AS1410 SU3500 who waited
    more than a couple weeks called J&R to cancel their order.
    They were offered a $20 to $30 reduction in price to wait longer.

    Possibly pickup an 1810T at JR.com for
    $599 -$30 Bing - $30 waiting incentive. :)

    Just called J&R and asked if they shipped my 1810t yet. They say they haven't received a shipment yet, but it should be arriving tomorrow or Monday which I think is BS. So, I tell the rep, Newegg has them in stock and I'm considering canceling my order and order from Newegg. He asks me to hold on while he goes talk to a manager. He comes back on the line and offers me $25 off plus free 2nd day air and he guarantees that when the Acers come in, mine will be one of the first to ship.

    I had no intention of ordering from Newegg because I didn't want to pay the CA sales tax, but what a deal if you pretend to cancel the order... ;)

    This is what happens yes, they've done this for a while. They just produce countless wavers of the same die, look for defects (i.e. in cache they just deactivate cells and sell them with less cache), check for performance (and rate them accordingly as pentium dual core or core 2 duo) and deactivate other features. This way they can even sell the faulty chips as lower end models. Once the yields of the wavers go up they have to sell chips below their potential to saturate the market brackets.

    Btw, is the 4GB RAM of the 1810T-734G32N dual-channeled or did they leave a slot open? I guess it's dual-channel, but who knows?

    Ooh! DUH. I forgot to check eBay. That'll work! Looks like both the half-mini 5100's and 5300's are available from U.S. sellers even. Not too bad of a price.

    Didn't find any 5150 or 5350's with the WiMax though in half-mini. Not too big of a deal. The 5100 should be enough. Don't really need the 450 Mbps 3x3 MIMO of the 5300 since none of my AP's supports 450 Mbps.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Kermee

    Yes I know that's kinda how the business works, but for example the E5x00's have a smaller die, so they're not rejected E8x00. Now, obviously the SU7300 or SU3500 couldn't use a E5x00 die since they have 3MB and the E5x00 die has 2MB, but it seems really convoluted to sell a single core 3MB L2 CPU with the same die as a dual core 6MB L2 CPU.

    And, since they're all the same die, the random distribution of what features are enable or disabled, like VT, 64 bit, etc seems even stranger.

    While I also know for a fact that this is true, what about the voltage of the CULV parts? I mean, they have to design in the low voltage CMOS and can't just use the 25 W dual-core designs as E5x... to produce the ULV SUxxxx chips. Also, the absence of virtualization etc. should not really be because of lower-binning silicon as they are too well-integrated in the design -- unless they are actually blowing poly-fuses to disable those features and sell them cheaper (below cost?). So interesting to speculate ;)

    Well, but what if the second core is severely damaged on the die? Just sell it as a single core. I doubt it's really feasible to produce separate single core CPUs nowadays. The market for it is dying quickly. The distribution of features seems kind of random, but to be fair, 97% of the people they are marketing to have no idea what a certain feature does or why they should care. So they just throw some more features in for the higher priced models to give people the incentive to upgrade.

    On topic though, I finally ordered my 1810TZ. Should arrive next week hopefully.

    Yes, they actively deactivate those features. After all they have to make a distinction to the higher priced models, otherwise no one would buy them. Regarding the CULV parts I'm not too certain as my knowledge regarding the actual process of creating these chips is severely limited.
