Manual change your resolution until it fits your tv.

For example, my tv is a 52" LCD and it's resolution is 1900x1080. I had to manually change it to fit my tv.

I accidentally formatted HDD after my first use and delete all Acer manual on drive C:. I just bought his one but my OS had problem, so had to re-format and re-install Windows. If anyone can make a zip and send to [email protected] I'd appreciate for your help.

I do a shutdown too. I lose 5-6% per day, which is not a lot except that I use my laptop on weekends. If I fully charge Sunday evening, when I go to use it again the following Saturday morning, my charge level is at ~64%.

Lithium batteries don't like to be deep cycled. I hate to think that if I forget to use, charge or remove the battery from the laptop that after as few as 20 days I could have ruined my battery. They're not cheap! Discharged too low and they cannot be charged anymore either -though the pack's battery protection circuit 'should' prevent that.

In the graphics properties, there are options for centering, scaling, and a few others. I believe scaling is the one you need.

Indeed I see where you are going. I've hooked my old notebook with SVIDEO to my 50" plasma before. It worked. I have my PS3 and cable box hooked via HDMI right now and tried those ports as well.

You're talking about the Intel graphics drivers right? I'm pretty sure I updated those but I wanted to be sure.

Just received my AS1410-8414. It has Vista on it, but i'm going to wipe and install windows 7, any tricky driver issues or apps I might want to back up first? I've never used one of these before, although my other netbooks are eeepc's

    thanks for any advice

Has anybody tried Cretouch laptop skins?

Some of them look pretty tacky but it'll cover up the glossy fingerprint-prone lid.

I'm sorry, but this is apples to oranges. You really need to check with an HDMI-connected Notebook (or take your 1410 to a friend's house to rule out that the problem's with your TV...)

Btw, I have my cable box hooked up to my monitor's HDMI port and it transmits perfect 1080 in the proper size & resolution, etc. But when I connect either my 1810TZ or my Dell M1330 (via HDMI), I have to stick to "dual-monitor" mode because the image is not correctly rendered in "clone" mode (either the image does not stretch to fill my monitor or it over-stretches, etc).

So you are saying there could be a compatibility issue with the netbook and my TV? My cable box and PS3 both display 1080 on my TV just fine.

I just realized my PC monitor is HDMI. I'll try extending it to that when I get home tonight.

I don't clean mine very often, but simply use a damp dish rag with a little soapy water. I've grown accustom to the finger prints. If you get enough of them it's just like having a matte surface. :)

I have the carbon one for my 1410 and I'm super happy with it. I'll try to post a pic in a little bit. I would highly recommend the skins, they have a nice texture to them so they don't look super cheap.

I DEFINITELY lose all of my battery life after shutting down for several days. My 1410 with SU2300 processor is my travel companion so it does not get daily use. Just noticed this for the 3rd time and I will be calling Acer tomorrow.

    WOW! That's really bad.
Let me know what you find out when you call them. I used their email tech support and got a scripted response that didn't help. When I filled out their RMA form online, there was pulldown choices to help describe my problem and none of them were specific to the problem I was having. The only problem close to what was going on was "Battery does not hold charge".
Like I mentioned earlier, I taped a letter to the top of my 1410 when I sent it in with a full description of the problem. I hope the tech reads it and diagnoses the problem instead of reading the RMA web descriptions of "Battery does not hold charge" and just ships it back to me with a new batt.

I noticed the same issue with my 1410. I can get it to display in 1080 resolution on my 42' LCD, but about a quarter inch of the screen is cut off all the way around the edges. Not a big deal, just curious as to why it cuts off that tiny bit around the border when it should fit perfectly. Also I should mention Win7 x64 did an auto update of my 4 series display drivers. Afterwards, all my HDMI output had color issues..bright red/pink colors, washed out. I corrected this by uninstalling the driver and going back to an earlier version.

P.S. - I'm going to mess with the scaling options tonight after work to see if I can get a perfect fit.

    1. They had me go to support.acer.com and update my BIOS (303 at time of writing).
    2. I have to turn off my computer, charge to full.
    3. Then use the battery's full charge w/o re-charging in the middle.
    4. Repeat 2-3 times.
    5. If battery still won't hold charge during storage, then they said they will replace it for free if I call back.

NOTE - I am aware of Li-ion batteries finesse; optimum to store at 40-50% capacity, yada-yada. For my first use of the computer, I charged full and depleted that charge with the first use - just like the 'new' instructions given above.

I fear it is a bad battery, but I will go through the procedures with the newest BIOS and report back.

Yeah, the adhesive is really easy to work with. After my first application, I noticed a tiny air bubble in the surface. I pulled back the adhesive and smoothed out the bubble with no issues at all, and it seems to stay stuck very well. Here's 2 pics of my carbon skin, I'm super happy with it.

Gymway, when you connect your 1410 to your tv, are you able to close the lid of the laptop and still have it display on your tv with no issues?

I have it set to turn off the notebook monitor and switch the display to the LCD when the HDMI cable is plugged in. I've found running both displays as clone (both TV and notebook displaying the same screen) would make movie playback on the TV choppy.

I'll have to check later. I seem to remember it not making a difference. I'm not having color issues since rolling back from the latest intel display driver, just the issue of getting 1080 desktop to display without trimming the borders.

I wanted to follow up regarding the problem myself and a few others have experienced regarding malfunctioning touchpads. I shipped my laptop to Acer for warranty repair and they received it on 2/16. They shipped it back out on 2/20 via Fedex 2nd day air. There was a message with the laptop stating that they replaced the touchpad and top cover. Everything appears to be working properly now. It was very frustrating to receive a malfunctioning laptop, but Acer fixed the issue and returned the laptop to me quickly.

Does anyone know of a good docking station or port replicator I can use with the 1810TZ ?

When in the office I prefer to work on a bigger screen and keyboard

The LCD TV should have an option for fixing that. In the section where you adjust aspect ratios or something like that. In LG TVs, I think it is named "just scan"

Anybody else getting a high pitched whine coming from the left side of your 1410? It's driving me nuts, it comes and goes, independent of the fan being on or off. Sounds like what gets called "transistor whine" but I'm not sure what's causing it.

    Another question:

On my last notebook (a HP) I had the option (I think through BIOS) to switch off the WIFI when the LAN was used and to activate it when the LAN was not active.
Is this possible with the Acer as well ?

Your discharge rate is less than mine. You're at ~3.3%.

However, which laptop do you own? Do you have an 1810t with the 5500mAH battery? If so, then your discharge current could be the same as my 1410, it's just mine sucks down faster due to the 4400mAH battery.

Is all of this with the battery inside in the laptop and shutdown? Why don't you guys just remove the battery? Battery drain when shut down isn't abnormal, Sony Vaio's are known for their excessive battery drain but they just have to deal with it.

I think it is a bit ridiculous that we would be expected to remove the battery everytime it's not in use if we want to maximize battery life. The absence of issues like these should be taken for granted IMO. :p
