By the way not to be pedantic but you do not have a netbook, you have a sub or ultraportable notebook.

Its mentioned many times in various Acer threads. I've also noticed similar posts
in Lenovo T series and Lenovo S10 forums (machines I still own but don't use much anymore).
Some who focus on battery performance are not aware the numbers are analog in nature,
simple calculations based on the structure of the reporting software. So don't take the numbers too seriously.
Pull the battery if a small amount of added-use time becomes important for any reason.
Excluding purist, few folks would even notice a 6% discharge overnight. -
Pulled out my Dell laptop today as my Acer is in for RMA repair. I used this about a month ago - came up with 92% battery charge level. My 1410 in the same amount of time would be dead and may not be chargeable again at all.
BTW, I got a shipping notice from Acer at 7AM today that my RMA is complete. I guess they work weekends.

After noticing for the 3rd time that my battery wasn't holding a charge, I called Acer 1 week ago to discuss the problem. They instructed me to first update bios. I did. They instructed me to do a full charge for 8 hours, followed by a full drain on the battery by using it. And repeat that again.
After these procedures I let the battery sit unused to test the original battery drainage problem. On Tuesday night I had 100% charge. By mid-day Fri I was down to 86% and right now at the time of writing, Monday mid-day I am down to 74%.
Just got off the phone with Acer for the second time and they are replacing my battery. They put an approx $65 hold on my CC, they're shipping me a new battery and upon returning my broken one, they will refund the deposit. -
Hi everyone-
thanks for reading this and any info would be helpful.
I'm new here as I just placed an order for an AS1810-8638 thru an online seller [U.S.]; that was Feb 24. Well, 12 days later no info beyond a message stating it was expected to ship from the manufacturer to their distribution point on Mar. 5.
Nothing yet.
Is this machine is such high demand that its supply is outpaced? Or, is the new model of pc manufacturers to only build on request, and coordinate with other shipments to consolidate shipping costs, etc. ?
If it is, I understand and am willing to wait.
I haven't been charged for the unit yet, but I've seen the same model at other online sellers available within 3 days, at about 5 to 8% more however.
So, do I standby or just pay the extra percentage and get on with it. I'm opposed to doing that, since it lends itself to "bait and switch" marketing methods; It wouldn't surprise me if both of these online sellers are actually owned by the same parent company.
If this is simply supply and demand effects, I'm inclined to wait it out until supply exceeds demand. It's only a PC afterall. -

I am trying to find through google any kind of video showing how to change Hard Drive on an 1810 but I have no luck.I also searched this and the timeline tweaks thread.I know how to do it but i want to be absolutely certain. That ribbon looks very sensitive.
-
I tried searching but couldn't find the answer to my question.
Does an SDHC card stick out when it's fully inserted in the 1810T? I currently run a 32Gig SSD in my Eee Pc and use a 16G SDHC for my media storage. I'm considering the same setup in an 1810T if it doesn't stick out too much. On the Eee PC, the SDHC card sits flush and won't get bumped or broken. I leave it in the slot all the time.
Thanks for your replies,
-M -
Yup....sticks out just under 1/8th of an inch.
-
Thank-you Les & RoninTech,
That's exactly what I was looking for! -
-
hey- i'm really hungry for my AS-1810T-8638; it's only been 15 days since I ordered and the tell me its still six days away from their warehouse; can you do anything for me?
-
I my 1410 back from RMA repair for the battery drain issue. Nothing was done.
"Repair Comments: Power switch is software driven and will use power even when not powered on. Within factory specs."
I guess that ends that.
It would be great if laptop reviews would measure charge loss when a laptop is off. It may be common for some brands and models, but it should be published and not left to us end users to find out on our own.

Hi,
can some one who owns a acer 1410/1810 bought in Canada post a picture of the keyboard...!
I'm intending to buy a acer 1410/1810 on my trip to canada in 3 days and i wanna know if the Canada & Usa Keyboard is Same....?!?
Thanks -
No...the Acer Canada keyboard is the bilingual keyboard with different shift/and enter key shapes. I am not a fan of it. I got the replacement standard on EBay for 10 bucks and it takes all of 4 min to switch without any disassembly.
-
hi les,
1. is the "shift/and enter key shapes" the only difference. or are there any other differences as well...??? what is the meaning of "bilingual keyboard" .... ??
2. it seems the pics u posted above are not of acer 1410/1810. anyways which one is the usa keyboard and which one is canada keyboard in the above picture..???
3. could you put a before & after pics of acer 1410/1810...??
Thanks pal... ;-) -
And a link to the exact replacement model would be great too.
-
Lot you are asking of me here:
First here is the Ebay link of the standard keyboard I got with a pik on the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Acer-Aspire-Time...mQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item35a7b6ec79
here is the Canadian system purchase keyboard layout. It is not the specific keyboard for that system as the Ebay add above is, but this is exactly how it will look on the face.
Now switching the keyboards takes 3 minutes tops. If you look at the top of your 1810t keyboard you will see 4 little grooves. They are tabs and if you push each in with a pin, it releases the keyboard at the top. There are two on the side as well but they are hard tabs so...pull up the keyboard gently and they will release. From there pull the keyboard towards the screen to release the bottom where they rest in slots.
NOw if you look at the ribbon behind, you will see that the female connector on the laptop has a piece around it; this can be pulled up and the ribbon pulled out once loose.
To replace put the new ribbon in, push down the piece to secure it, slide the bottom of the keyboard in place and gently push all around so all the tabs click back in.
The OS picks up the proper keyboard automatically when you restart the system. -

Fixed......

Thanks! Just bought one for our Canadian 1810T
-
Came in in a week and a half ...

-
thank you les...
you are a genius..!! ;-) -

I haven't got my 1810T-8638 yet; still waiting.
Anyway, Les, I thought thses models [1410, 1810] had the almost totally flat kb's that span flat key to key, almost making the appearance of a single flat surface.
Your pictures [before & after] both look like the more conventinal designs, which I like better anyway.
Whats up with that?
or am I just not up to spec?
BTW, here's close-up borrowed image of 1810T kb:

I'm on the fence about picking up a 1810TZ from TigerDirect....
How soon do you think we will see machines with the newer technology? I hear the new ASUS UL line is right around the corner, if I can wait 1-2 months is it advised? -
^^^
You can always wait~ -
Haha, I know if I keep waiting of course something better will be right there...
I guess my question would better be, is there anything coming out that is speculated to replace the 1810 soon? Within the next month or two that is. In terms of price and performance of course. It seems everytime I purchase a notebook within a week Intel makes a "revolutionary change" that makes me kick myself for purchasing. And since I don't know too much about where the notebook technology is today, it seemed like those new Asus' are going to be that new revolutionary change that was going to screw me over again. But like I said, I don't know much!
-
There will always be something right around the corner...1810T refresh with an i3 maybe? I don't think it will be soon. Build yourself a system as I did that will be evolution proof for a while anyway...
Notice the ssd I have in this 11"" system...it absolutely flies! -
les,
m buying 1810 from futureshop canada.
http://www.futureshop.ca/Search/Sea...re%20Site&pcname=MCCPCatalog&AllowSecure=True
should i buy ...
1. su9400/400gb ---> $ 749
or
2. su7300/320gb ---> $ 599
Which should i buy and why...??
Thanks ;-) -
I have the SU9400 and got it price matched on a sale for $705 from BC so there also was not PST.
My son has the one that is $499 now and I just got the $599 one for a work partner and set it up.
IMHO, I would grab the SU7300 or the SU9400 because they are both 64Bit and have 4Gb RAM. If you are just a simple user, however, you cannot go wrong with the $499 system.
Space is also a big concern because I am an ssd user. Truly, the biggest bang you will get for the buck is to grab the $499 system and throw an Intel 80Gb ssd in there for just over $200 bucks, still paying less than the $749 system.
Now, your system as I have just configured will BLOW AWAY the $749 system, albeit have less total free space available.
If u want to be simply awestruck see and what a 11.6 system is capable of, get the $749 as I did and then grab the 160Gb ntel drive for $400 plus.... This system simply blows away my Dell XPS M1340 with a 2.5ghz processor and much better graphics. -
Hello all, This is my first post here. I did not want to start a new thread, but I need help identifying cpu on the 1810. I got today a 1810TZ. It even has a sticker on it that says 1810TZ with SU4100. But in BIOS, as well on windows and also cpu-z it says U2300 1.2Ghz. the laptop was bought used, so I am worried. Am I missing something? Thanks for reading..
-
The SU2300 is a dual core processor sold on the Acer Aspire 1410. To verify what you bought go to the Windows "Control Panel" and select/click on "System". It should tell you what system you have (1810 vs 1410) and the processor installed (SU2300 vs SU4100,etc). Please let us know what you have. Hope this helps.
-
Well in control panel / system under Manufacturer (Acer) and Rating (I have 3.2) my Model is T. It just says T.. the sticker on lcd panel / bottom right says 1810TZ.
the cpu is U2300. I have read most of the thread and have not seen such a combination. strange.. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Sorry for the pictures but I am still confused.
Speccy seems to also be a bit confused about SU9300/U2300
Anyway I did not get what was on the spec list
(that is 1810TZ-412G25n or LXPJ302016 which I thought it meant SU4100)
Thanks for the replies. -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
You can tell it is an SU2300 because it only has 1mb of L2 cache.
-
I agree. You have a 1410 w/SU2300. It is a fine computer. It is what I have. Unfortunately it isn't what you thought you were buying. I hope you didn't overpay. Sorry for your situation.
-
Single Core vs Dual Core...um...big difference.
-
So far, the only thing i'm really not crazy about on my 1410 is the keyboard? Do the other 11.6" models have better keyboards that are swappable?
Bronsky -
-
Yup except for speed and size of the L2 cache your right...my bad...was thinking of another...
-
At the risk of sounding like a complete and utter noob, I am attempting to update some drivers for my 1810tz manually. As I am used to the one file install with Dell downloads I'm puzzled by the Acer zip file I get from their website. I have a whole bunch of files and no clear cut driver install option. Is there something I am missing? Running W7 home premium 64. Any help would be appreciated and feel free to run the gauntlet of noob comments!
