Keep and eye out for the Aspire One 752. It looks to be the the same as the 1410. The single core version has already hit Amazon in Germany.

New Egg still has a black 1410T-2920 for sale. It has the Su2300 duo core. New Egg has it for $50 less than Amazon.

I have seen that ,but what actually Acer says is miles away from what it actually does.In the configurations there is no su2300 to be seen.

I think the flexing is a matter of luck and not a matter of model.I have a 1410 and an 1810tz and they are both solid,no flexing at all.But i heard other people with 1410 or 1810 complaining of flexing keyboard.

Mt last notebook was a Vostro 15. It was a brick of a laptop (7 lbs  ) but the keyboard was beautiful. The Acer has taken some time to get used to. It flexes in the middle. While it's fine for a travel unit, I write quite a bit and tend to type in the 80 wpm range. For my main unit, I need a keyboard that won't be moving too much under my fingers.

HEY that's no problem at all.Lift your keybord a bit(no need to remove it)and stick a small piece of electrical tape underneath. It works great. The flexing goes away.many people have done it.There is a topic in the Timeline tweeks.

I never noticed any excesive flex on my 1410. I have a Vosto 1400 and I couldn't type on my 1410 when I first got it. I had trouble with the spacing and flat keys at first, but I have no problems with it now.

So anyone who has purchased a 5200 mAh (or higher) battery for their 1410, care to weigh in on the build type and the overall quality of the battery? How many of you guys have gotten an eBay battery and what's your overall experience?

    Thanks in advance.

The double sided tape took 90% of the flex out of the keyboard. IT is securely fastened to the aluminum plate underneath. It feels completely different. What a great little tip. It must have been burried cause I've read most of the thread. The site won't let me rep you any more. :D

Here in canada I've seen 2.5" usb enclosures go on sale for as low as $5CAD w & w/o MIR. Look on places like ncix.com, newegg.ca, and sigelectronics.com just for comparison. Try find some that cheap locally. I bought an Acomdata brand with both usb 2.0 & 1394a on it back in october for $20 after MIR. The same brand w/o firewire 1394 was $10 cheaper. You can even find USB 3.0 enclosures but they will be relatively expensive.

@fstop: I recommend getting the bigger battery with bluetooth built in because if you go with an external usb 2.0 bluetooth adaptor you'll be using up 1 of the 3 precious USB ports and you really need those if you want to connect several devices especially data transfer/exchange while also using an external mouse/numeric pad. You really want to connect as much as possible via bluetooth to free up usb 2.0 ports. The bigger battery means less recharge cycles too so it allows your battery to not only run longer but last you longer in years.

Screen resolution has to be the same on both 1410 and 1810. It's already very fine pixel size like superfine setting on a digi cam. 1366x768 is standard res for like a 17" WS or maybe even 19" WS and we get it squeezed into an 11.6" frame.

When I booted the Acer recovery using the optical discs via USB CD/DVD-ROM I get 2 noticeable differences vs via USB Flash drive. First I get a prompt with language selection this doesn't happen when I boot from USB flash drive. 2nd I can select the options (full recovery, partial recovery, exit) using the trackpad & buttons. Via USB flash drive I'm only able to highlight the different "pointers" at each button using only the Tab key. When I let the optical drive method run it seems to have given drive letter "Z:" to the optical drive. I'm beginning to think there's a floppy disc image/binary on the "System CD" that sets up some drivers/instructions as well as booting.

I have seen the thread on performing a clean install on an Acer. I don't see a thread on doing this from teh Acer recovery disks. There are complete Windows 7 images on there to do a clean install right? Sould be able to unpack them and do a clean install? Or, should be fairly easy to create a streamline disk?

SSD is coming monday. Am considering a clean install. Last time I did a complete install and then removed the crap ware.

I did a search and came up with this :
    http://www.istyles.com/carbon-acer-aspire-skin-p-15693.html?tag=carbon

    I ordered the 11.6" & matte finish.

Not really sure if it will fit the 1410/1810 form, but I'm gambling its unlikely Acer would have two different 11.6" display housing/lid designs lately.
If it's not quite right, I won't apply and just exchange for a 'general fit' to my specified X x Y dimensions.
$25 with shipping and they replied to my email within 12 hours.

If it works, there are even palm rest parts that I can use on a phone or slippery digital cam?
I'll post pics if its a go.

Is this the kind of double sided tape everyone is using? I have some of this, but am not sure if it's too thick:

No - not mounting tape. It is too thick. I used scotch poster tape. It comes on a roll and is very thin. You can get it at a craft store like AC Moore.

I have a Dell travel mouse (rebranded logitec I think). Works fine with Broadcom driver. I think any wireless mouse has a bit of lag at times, but it is very conveninet and I only use it at my desk, so power is not an issue.

Some are just wireless and some are bluetooth.Ebay is full of them, look it up.They work at a distance of up to 10 meters. They work excellent,I never had a problem even though my notebook had a bluetooth to start with.(I don't think it would be any different on an installed bluetooth).

Do you know if there are any replacement keyboards out there for the Aspire 1410? I love the computer the they keyboard with its flat keys is driving me nuts. I'd like to find one which has some scalloping to improve the keyboard 'feel'

It is truly the only real complaint I have about the computer. It has helped to fasten it down with double sided tape so it does not flex as much. I don't know of any improved keyboards that you can use with the unit, unless you get a bluetooth keyboard for when you typing in the office or at home. On the road, you're stuck with it, I think. Is the Gateway keyboard any better, it should fit, no?

    Hi

Is there any trick to watch full screen streaming (from sites like megavideo, youtube) with a decent frame rate on 1410 celeron 743? My wife is hooked to watching TV shows like that and the streamed video is far from smooth, even for Standard Definition content - processor occupancy on constant 100%. We use Splash Player http://www.mirillis.com/splash.html movies played from a hdd and it works beautifully - CPU < 50% for 720p.
Flash Player 10.1 is supposed use GPU but it doesn't look like it do. Any tips here?

    Cheers

what's the best deal going right now for one of these laptops? My mother-in-law really likes my wife's AS1410-2990 and wants something similar. She'll probably just use it for solitaire and looking up recipes in the kitchen.

With the 4GB-800mhz and the 40GB X-25G2 SSD, the 1410 boots up quickly and runs very smoothly. I haven't done a clean install this time, just removed all of the programs that I didn't think were needed. I am using the 1410 as my everyday work machine and it is holding its own. In that environment, I think the upgrades were a necessity. I did not like the response time on the 250GB 5400rpm drive. After replacing the ram, you could see what a bottleneck the drive was. Now, its in an external case and used for storage.

    Which model 1410T has a single 2 GB stick of Ram? My 1410T-2920 had 2 x 1GB modules. I ordered a 2 x 2GB Kit from Microcenter for $78.

    http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0285260

It has gone up $11 since I bought it. Amazon probably has a better price. Since your replacing both modules, get the 800 mhz.

Not a great deal but TigerDirect has the
    Acer Aspire AS1410-2954 LX.SAB02.006 Notebook
    Intel Celeron ULV 743 1.3GHz, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HDD
11.6" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Red

    for $425 minus 12.5% Bing cash back = $372

Notice its got the Intel 743 processor, similar to the SU3500.
    See this chart.
Should be fine for her use.

Or maybe wait a few weeks since Acer marketing is repositioning the 1410 as a "netbook".
Strange as it may seem. The 1410 will be sold as the new Acer 752 with
either the Intel SU2300 chip or the Intel 743 chip.
Already on sale here in Taiwan with the SU2300, its listed in the netbook
not the notebook sections and brochures.

    Acer 752 at NetbookReviews.
