Thank you very much for this. so no strain on the hands even with long use on top of a desk (flex must be fixed). I guess the real complaint would be; if the person can stand the 11.6 screen for hours end... hmmm...
-
I've been using mine almost every day since I got it. No problems at all. No keyboard flex but it did take a little time to get use to it and I'm completely happy with the size of the display.
-
I followed thundernet's advise awhile ago and bought one of these from ebay for my 1810. It is a perfect fit, very good quality skin. I also trapped a bit of dust under a corner, pealed it back and replaced the skin without issue. No stretch. Seems to be durable and well made.
-
First of all sorry if the question is somewhat "stupid".
I'm planning to buy a 1810 when I get back home next month and I was looking at this 2 models:
1810TZ-414G50N for 510€
or
1810TZ-412G25N for 410€
The only differences between the two should be 2gb ddr2 vs 4gb ddr3 and 250gb hd vs 500gb hd (everything else should be the same... su4100 cpu, gma 4500mhd and so on).
I don't care too much about the HD, even if of course some extra storage space is always nice... would the 2gb extra ram would be worth the 100€ more? is there any other difference I'm not aware of?
At the moment I am in Thailand and I was having a look at the prices and models available.
Here Acer is selling 2 models of 11.6:
1410-412G32N for 370€ (cpu dual core su4100, 2gb ddr2, 320gb hd)
and
1810T-352G32N for 480€ (cpu single core su3500, 2gb ddr2, 320gb hd)
Do you think this 1410 model is the same as the 1810tz above? just different model name for thailand? the only "strange" things is that on the Acer brochure it's listed for 6hours battery life insted of the 8hours of the other model.
Also I'm wondering... from what I could read on the internet, isn't the single core su3500 less performing than the su4100? why are they selling it more expensive?
I think I'd like to buy this 1410-412G32N for 370€ in the end... if someone could ressure/ confirm me about the model and the battery life.
Thanks in advance! -
Ouaou that 1410-412G32N for 370€ (cpu dual core su4100, 2gb ddr2, 320gb hd) sounds like an increadible deal!!!!!!!!I would make sure that the specs(never heard a 1410t with su4100) are as you describe and I would buy one FAST!!!(It is not uncommon even in the states for the su3500 to be more expencive than the the su2300.That doesn't mean that is better.Just weird pricing by Intel and Acer.
-
The 1410-1810s have keyboards with very large keys.Probably larger than those you would find in many desktop keyboards. That's why the keybord gets praised everytime in the reviews. So size and strain is not an issue. Some people find their shape strange. But as Ohiomoto said after a couple of weeks you get used to them.
As far as the screen I think that 11.6' and 13' are the perfect sizes for the human eye.As you go higher the eye has to cover more real estate and gets tired.I can work endless hours in front of an 11.6' screen without getting tired. But then again this is my theory and it applies to me. -
I am what some might call an older guy....46. In the last year, I went from an M1330 to a brand new M1340 which Dell sent me no charge and I even didnt ask for it and then I moved up...or down to this system.
I am on this system a few hours a day and when on the move am on it sometimes 7-8 pushing out a report...no eye or hand strain whatsoever.
The keypad is plenty big enough for normal typing.
Best system I have owned by far....especially with an ssd. I love the fact thats its an ultra that will stand up to any of the big guys while blowing their battery life away at 8 plus hours and no heat/fan noise... -
Wow thanks a lot guys for all these input! I'm sold!
-
If you're concerned about fatigue from the 1410T's display, don't. I use it at standard, not 125%. I am no youngster either.
Bronsky -
Ok, I will try to make sure about the specs (but they are written like that in many Thailand Acer brochures so I guess they have to be correct)
Only thing that worries me is that they state 6 hours battery life (while 8 hours for the single core model).
What should I check to make sure about this? number of cells? anything else? -
The number of cells are 6 for both batteries. The 6 hour battery is 4400mah and the 8 hour battery is 5600mah.It is written on the inside of the battery. If they call the model 1410t then probably it has the 4400mah battery.Still even with the 4400mah battery is an amazing deal. You can always buy a bigger battery later.

I am thinking of getting an older 1810tz model (blue instead of the silver olympics edition) : it has a su4100 cpu, 4gb of ram and a 320gb hdd. However, I am concerned about what I read in this forum and the somewhat less solid feel to it. Is the build quality so much better in the olympics edition that it warrant paying the exact same price for the same cpu but less ram and hdd??
Also : are the fingerprints soooo bad on the lid?? I've seen several people go the extra mile just to cover it up. -
Thanks thunder,
that looks like the same product at a lower price; wouldn't be surprised if it's by the same company dba on ebay.
I would have chosen leather, but I don't think it was available. wish I had seen it earlier. $3.50 shipping is certainly more realistic than what iStyles is charging.
1410/1810 Clones: be advised, it looks like 'Cretouch' via fleabay is the best deal [wish I'd seen this earlier]. I like that they're specifically cut to fit over entire lid and they cheaper overall by $12.
-
Someone else will have to tell you about the difference between the Olympic and other editions. I have a sapphire blue 1410T. While the finish shows fingerprints easily, I am just careful handling it and keep it in a sleeve ($12 at Target) so it doesn't get a lot. If it gets too many fingerprints, I wipe it down. I like the color so much that it's worth it to me. The inconvenience is minimal. I find myself wiping the top anyway before I put it in its sleeve. I would porbably so the same with the silver olympic edition.
Bronsky
-
Thanks Bronsky! I was thinking of getting the sapphire blue myself and your answer is pretty reassuring. I intend to carry it in a sleeve too, so I guess wiping it now and then is worth a hundred more bucks in my wallet!
-
I have a blue 1810tz.It's the first time I hear about "somewhat less solid build".There was a talk in the begining that the 1410 is less in terms of quality than the 1810.It has never been proven.I happen to have both and they are both very solidly build.Don't take my word for it,read any review from any reputable site and you will see.I believe that 1410-1810 and the Olympic editions are the same in terms of quality.
Now as far as the lid,yes it's a fingerprint magnet but I don't mind.Every couple of days I wipe it with Windex and a tissue and that's all.Hope I helped. -
Actually I think I saw a video review of the 1410T where the reviewer went on to talk about how it felt a bit "cheap" being made of plastic and all, and then I saw an unboxing video of the olympics edition where they commented on the solid "feel" the machine had overall. Guess I got my infos mixed a bit... Thanks for all your answers. I'll go with a sapphire blue 1810tz then (and some windex). 475$ seems almost unreal for all the stuff there is in this little beast!
-
475$ ????? Where???????????
-
-
eheheheheh showed u...
-
On the Olympic edition models, are any of the logos raised / sticking out from the surface they're on?
From pictures, I see there's a logo on the right palm-rest and one on the lid. I ask because I have a skin I'll be placing on this. -
Nice price!
-
Great price!!!!, if I lived in Canada I would have gotten that one too.
-
475$ is an amazing deal.Another person reported something similar for 375 euros.Seems that prices are going down all over the place.
-
Wow, thanks for posting. I was going to wait for the 1830T or the Asus UL20AT, but for this price you've thrown a wrench into my plans. It now appears that I will need to read through all 373 pages in this thread and others to decide whether or not I can live with the performance of this clearance model.
-
The logo on the lid is NOT raised.
The one on the right side of the palm-rest IS raised. -
Thanks for the confirmation gsainc. I purchased this on eBay intending to use it with the 1410, but that's taking too long to get back in stock (if ever) at Amazon:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400108059804
I guess the part that covers the palm-rest won't be usable on the 1810 Olympic. -
The same happened to me
Interesting reading, you'll see. I was waiting for the 1830T but the 1810T can get things done, at least for what I really need it for (even though I always prefer the latest and, in this case, not the shiniest...). I still have 3 weeks to wait till I get paid, so I guess we'll see if the prices keep coming down or if I just miss this great deal. -
With the 1810T prices dropping so low, no wonder Acer has been in no hurry to bring the new 1410T/SU2300 replacement to the US market. At these prices and with the unavailability of a lower priced dual core SU2300 model, Acer retailers should have no problem clearing their stock of 1810T's. To be sure, even if the SU2300 was available, the price difference is so minimal, that the 1810T is the obvious choice.

Hello there,
I was thinking on buying this laptop, but I've a doubt here.
I intend to get this laptop to school everyday. And for that reason (school) I'd like to know if this laptop can run software like:
AutoCAD, ORCad, Multisim, MATLad, Visual Studio, etc.
How is the performance with those softwares? Does any one can tell me? Or tried?
Now regarding to the laptop temperatures, what values do you have? Idle and full?
Does it heat a lot? The fan is audible? I don't like to hear the fan working..
Now, it is possible to change the CPU (for example to SU9400?) or is embbed inthe motherboard? The memory are embbed too or we can change it? (for example to 2x2GB)
For applications that required the GPU usage, like studioMAX, for example, or others, the laptop can do the job?
To finish, when the 1830T will come out?
Best regards -
What laptop????You don't mention.I assume the 1810T.
The notebook can handle the applications that you mention.Just get any 1810(su4100-SU7300-SU9400) as opposed to the 1410 so you have as much CPU pop as possible.
No need to talk about heat. This notebook doesn't know the meaning of the word.It is COLD.
The 1410-1810 can be annoyingly noisy at times when on ac.No need to worry though. We all use an application called 1810tray which makes it deadly silent.
You can't change the processor, it's embeded.(Why would you want to do that?If you like the SU9400 get that). The memory can be changed in 30 seconds flat if you are slow.
for the 1830T:

Thnks for your replay. I'm refering to the Acer 1810T.
I must say that in my country (Portuga) there is only the 1810T version with SU4100, that's why I asked.
Well about the rest okei then.
I'm thinking to buy this one or the Toshiba T130. I wonder if this Toshiba as the memory embeded and if is dual channel.
By the way, the 1810T memory is dual channel? -
you are a patient man, Thundernet!
About the 1810tray, I read that you need to monitor your laptop for a while after the first time you run it. Is it because it could overheat or something? -
Yes it is dual channel.
-
As for the RAM on the 1810 is it DDR2-667 or DDR2-800 for units currently shipping? I remember reading somewhere that newer units are equipped with DDR2-800.
-
I have canuck roots(born and raised in Montreal)that's why I am patient.A few Canadian winters do that to you.
Personally I installed it, set it to auto and forgot it,and at the same time I forgot the noise which was driving me nuts.At all times I can see the temperature in the taskbar and it controls it beautifully.
I think it's an excellent application and Acer should had it in the first place. -
The 1810T(su9400) olympic edition currently ships with DDR2-800Mhz.All the other models ship with DDR2-667Mhz.Some people have reported that they opened it and found unexpectingly 800Mhz,but there are no quarranties.
-
So there is no problem running all the apps that I mentioned above, do you guys confirm that?
Can you tell the temperature in idle and full load?
Which score the win 7 gives to the laptop?
Comparing this laptop with the Toshiba T130-15H, which one you guys think is better? I know there both of them similar configs, but... -
I ran the 1810tray for awhile but couldnt get the battery life out of it that i get now...nice program but.....
AMSA The best you can do for a 11.6" system is the 1810T Cdn Olympic Edition with the SU9400 in it. It is simply the most powerful machine available for this size.
Now, with what you are wanting to do with it...buddy...get an SSD. It will totally eliminate any fan use, heat and add to your battery life. Quite frankly, the system I have now is the best system I have had in my hands yet for price, weight, battery power, portability and performance...
As you can tell...I am very happy with it. -
The olympic is only offered as TZ in Germany...so only SU4100

I love Montreal. Haven't been there for quite some time, but I would start every ski season with the 1 week boot camp at Gray Rocks. During the season, I would ski at Whiteface in upstate New York and each trip to Lake Placid required enough time to sneak up to Montreal to catch a Canadians game and go jazz club hopping. Always fun. Montreal has its share of beautiful women and I was still single then.
Bronsky
-
hehe, I miss the girls from Montreal too (born there) but I'm not single anymore. Broke my knee while skiing, so I don't really miss that
Thundernet nailed it when he said we are patient people (but having lived in Paris and using its crowded subway has made me an impatient guy now). Anyways, glad to be able to buy stuff from there (euros converted in canadian dollars = win!)
oh and the Canadiens are playing tonite! too bad it's airing in the middle of the night over here.. darn! -
I asked to check the battery at a shop today, the battery they showed me is 5600mAh... so I still wonder why Acer advertise it with a 6 hours battery life (while the su3500 version is advertised as 8 hours).
Anything else I could check?
Thanks anyway

Ok, so I finally purchased an AS1810T-8488, but had previously purchased this bluetooth module:
Acer AS1410 AS1410T 2.0 Bluetooth Module + Cable NEW - eBay (item 120493968317 end time Apr-07-10 06:17:33 PDT)
while waiting for a backordered 1410-2990 to ship (which I eventually canceled).
Will the bluetooth module I purchased work properly with my AS1810T-8488?
EDIT:
Never mind. I see this same seller has a bluetooth 2.1 module for the AS1810. I hope he'll let me return for refund the module I purchased for the 1410. -
The 5600Mah is the 8 hours battery. So you are OK..Even in the States sometimes they advertise the 5600mah battery as a 6 hour battery. There is no higher capacity from Acer.
-
I think the 1810 will be inadequate for your CAD usage.
Perhaps the SU7300 would run the applications, perhaps not.
But take a look at the new Asus UL30JT or the Acer 3820T,
both can be purchased with discrete switchable graphics.
The 1810T does not have a separate graphics card.
And the 1830 may or may not depending upon
whether they ever actually produce an i5 model.
I think we have a very long wait for any 1830 beyond
a simple i3 model, BTW. This is my informed guess given the
15 and 17um delays and the heat problems now showing up
with the i7 processors.
But the big problem I see for you is screen resolution.
How can you consider using CAD on a minimalistic 11.6" low resolution display?
At least take a look at some higher res 14" and 15" machines.
WSXGA+: Widescreen Super eXtended Graphics Array Plus
Resolution: 1680×1050
WUXGA: Wide Ultra eXtended Graphics Array
Resolution: 1920×1200
WXGA+: Widescreen Extended Graphics Array Plus
Resolution: 1440x900 -
The SU3500 uses less power than the SU2300. In the states, they came with the lower capacity battery with a claimed battery life of 6 hours. In reality 6 hours is probably a pretty realistic claim for the larger battery.

I just bought a 1810T-8638 and am loving it! But I have a couple of questions. Forgive me if these are dumb questions, but I could use some help.
1. The cursor/pointer for the touchpad often turns into a circle (instead of a pointer) when I am moving it around. I have no idea what this is supposed to be but I want to turn that feature off. I've looked through the synaptic touchpad settings, but don't see a way to change it.
2. Does this computer have bluetooth? It is listed in the specs on both Amazon and the Acer web site for this model, but I don't have a bluetooth icon in the control panel, and don't see a bluetooth driver or any mention of bluetooth in the device manager. So I'm not sure if the specs are wrong or if it's there and something is wrong with the driver and/or windows settings. I'd like to get bluetooth working.
Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks. -
Have you tried turning the bluetooth radio on using the switch on the underside of the front edge or using the Fn+corresponding F key?
