Ah, the turn on the switch technique, very useful! Thanks.

When I get to the bluetooth settings options, I checked the box saying to allow devices to find the computer so I can pair it with my blackberry. I then get the following message:

The bluetooth exchange folder does not exist.

Googling hasn't turned up anything useful so far.

I also got a message at one point about the bluetooth stack, but it isn't coming back up. So that was very helpful and I'm glad to know I've got bluetooth but I still can't get it to work.

You can leave the Microsoft stack, that is simple and works for most porpouses or install the Broadcomm one that have all you need, including the file transfer with BB capability.

The Broadcomm one can be downloaded from the Acer 1810 driver download site.

Once you get the broadcomm driver in, you will probably still have problems getting your blackbetty to sync with the 1810T. You will have to connect your blackberry first via usb. Then check the devices and you will see that the there are two peripheral device drivers missing. There is a way to load them from the Blackberry desktop software. Here is a link.

How to fix Bluetooth peripheral missing driver for BlackBerry in Windows 7

Once you get your BT driver straightened out and get the drivers loaded, your BB will sync perfectly with your notebook.

Beemer and Bronsky, thanks for the info. Will give it a try.

One of my goals with this notebook was to be able to do bluetooth tethering via my crackberry. I have to spend two hours per day on a commuter train and it would be nice to have an internet connection.

As long as you don't have Verizon you'll probably be okay. Verizon has made it impossibile to tether without enabling VZ Access for an additional $15 a month. Other carriers should be okay.

    Good luck with it.

Unless you get their Palm Pre Plus or the (Pixie Plus) with the mobile hot spot. You get free wireless tethering on that phone.

    hy there..
as this post became giant, my question could be already answered so just send me the correct page. if not...

i saw in other forum that just soldering the 2nd (and missed a lot) minipci-e connector could bring it to live (some guy did it in a samsung netbook)

so, could it be done in the timeline 1410 too?
i ask it because the 2nd minipci-e has pleny room to fit a regular minipci-e card not only a half size and because of that, it´s much more usefull...

    thanks!

Acer 1410-8803 here and no problems with adjusting screen, using bios 3303 and maybe you should see if you have this program running " C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\lmanager.exe" it's required for some of those Fn shortcuts to work. BTW has anyone found an updated version of Launch Manager? I'm thinking a version upgrade would make it faster/more efficient also wanna bet we're all using the 32bit version? The 64bit version might be better for those 64bit users.

Never heard of other womens' attention making you look more attractive to your wife? It's like that jealousy thing that some couples foolishly play with. I think if your wife saw more women being drawn to you at zero extra effort on your part then she'll see you as a bigger/better catch ;)

I have a 1410-8803 with SU3500 and it was getting 6hrs on power saver with the 4400mAH batt and 5400RPM Toshiba HDD. I switched to an Intel 160GB G2 SSD and I think that increases the battery life by an hour on power saver. I still have to do a full count down to be sure. I've read intel uses up to 3W under load and other SSDs can use as low as 0.9W under load.

Also buying the unit with the slower ram lets you resell the ram and get more cash back with your upgrading further bringing down overal cost.

In canada refurbished 1410 can be found for $300CAD but I've only seen SU3500 and maybe SU2300. I bought my 1410 in october for $440CAD and missed my chance by like a day or 2 for a price match to get another $75CAD off lol.

I read that the keyboard and keys are 94% of a full sized keyboard. Flat keys take getting used to and minute space makes a "learning curve" to feeling key location/limits but aside from that the layout is comfortable to use. This is my first laptop I've ever owned. I've used a dozen others and from testing in stores 10" netbooks is the minimum I can touch type fast without too many typos/multiple keys pressed.

have you tried using .png format for your pics. Sometimes those are smaller than JPEGs

DDR3 is much better to buy than DDR2 because DDR3 consumes much less power giving you more battery life. Also keeps your ram options open and cost effective in the future. Say you want to sell it off in whatever years, the DDR3 unit will have more interested 2nd hand buyers because of the ram headroom. Users that need more than 4GB of ram will still be interested in your laptop.

Then reports from users state that SU4100 is supposed to be faster than SU3500 due to the multi core vs single core SU3500. SU3500 I believe is a more advanced architecture however.

Gaming and A/V developping benefits from multi core, web browsing and office programs are mostly single thread operations and function the same on single or multi cores.

temps are not an issue, it gets very warm on high performance if run for very long but it never gets hot and I've never seen my temps go past 48°C. Just keep it off your lap if you can so that you don't add heat to it from your legs.

CPU is soldered to the board and is not user changeable. You'll need a very advanced technician or engineer to change the cpu which is not worth the cost.

RAM can be changed/mixed any speed/size combo up to 2x2GB DDR2-800. This chipset does Flex dual channel meaning parallel amounts of ram will run dual channel while the non parrallel ram runs in single channel. Like with 3GB in the system 1GB from the 2GB piece and the whole 1GB piece is dual channel and the remaining 1GB from the 2GB piece is single channel.

Just like my reply immediately above the 1810T supports dual channel and flex mode dual channel. However size and speed it can take depends on if it uses DDR2 or DDR3 because the latter can go up to 8GB and I think DDR3-1066.

I don't believe ANY SU3500 has 8hrs battery life stock. SU3500 is the Core 2 Solo single core that runs at 5.5W the dual core SU7300 and SU9400 are 10W. My batt is 6hrs on power saver havn't tested how long with my intel SSD yet.

#1 sounds like the Chirial gesture motion. It allows you to continuously scroll pages up/down or left/right by dragging your finger in clockwise/counter-clockwise circular motion without ever having to take your finger off the trackpad. Your touchpad driver should have a video for it and there's settings to turn it off and on and speeds. Synaptics has the latest driver with TONS of gestures in it and plenty are useful. Lets say the trackpad has like 20-30+ functions in it.

#2 if you got a model with bluetooth included there's a switch on the front panel to turn it on/off and there's Fn+F3 to toggle it on/off too. I'm having throuble getting the Broadcom website setup program to work with a Belkin usb BT adaptor. Only the Belkin driver will work with it no idea why.

Also all of you regardless of what model you bought should check your SIM card slot hidden inside the battery socket. If your SIM slot is functional you can put your cell phone SIM card in it or a new card and get direct WAN access to the cell phone network and 3G network. Think of it as having your laptop directly on the internet instead of going though an ISP I think, using the cellular network.

    +1

Funny thing here in montreal the local news did an editorial report on Blackberries and the title of the report was called "Crackberry" lol Funny seeing Crackberry getting plastered on the news.

Usually there's several ways of going around paying access fees to the internet. #1 how many of you tried to use the dialup access number for your ISP and have your cell phone dialup and act like a data/fax modem via bluetooth for your notebook? Sure it's slow and likely only 56Kbps but for instant messengers and forum/web browsing without lots of multimedia it should be fine. I imagine the dialup access numbers are free/unlimited for DSL customers. Next is the unlimited mobile browser plans people have on their cell phones. I've never tried using the advanced data rates like 1X to feed internet data to the laptop. Is that straight forward? Like once the cell is connected via BT does web browsing on the notebook automatically make the cell phone use 1X/3G internet transfers?

Good point but I doubt it, I suspect he's seeing one of the touchpad's gestures like chirial rotate or chirial scrolling.

Exact same thing happens to me - and I'm puzzled by it.

Seems there's a "feature" there somewhere that escapes me.

Anybody know what that's supposed to mean - and how to either get rid of it, or take advantage of it?

That sounds like the "waiting" cursor. You know, the one it shows when it's busy processing.

    It could also be this:
Control Panel -> Mouse -> "Pointer Options" tab -> "Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key"

    Have you tried:
Windows cursor turns into circle - Google Search

Come on you guys this is for zoom.If you start your finger from the right upper corner and you go towards the center the circle will apear and without lifting your finger with clockwise and counterclockwise motions you can zoom and unzoom a picture. Go- CONTROL PANEL-MOUSE-DEVICE SETTINGS-SETTINGS and watch videos on how to use all these features and also turn off the ones that you don't want.

I've having a lot of problems with standby aka Sleep. Sometimes it works, othertimes, it just sits there. I wait for minutes on end and it doesn't go anywhere. I can understand Hibernate taking a few minutes although even that seems slow. But Sleep should take a few seconds. It just stalls out. The screen goes blank but it doesn't go to sleep. I have to force turn off the computer and restart it. This is getting old. Anyone else encounter this issue?

You guys(and girls) with 1410-1810 I noticed from your signatures that many have Win7 Ultimate.I know that all of you have legit rtm keys ;) ;) and you haven't activated with the acer offline OEM method using accidentaly Ultimate instead of Home Premium ;) ;) ;) .I am not a fan of micros$ft myself but here's the problem.Acer never activated a single 1410-1810 with Ultimate edition. How hard do you think is for Micros$ft to put that into a script(especially during service pack1)and disgualify all those installs. Not hard at all and you can bet your Microsoft dollar :D that it will do it.And then the only solution will be formating and back to Home Premium again .What's the big deal with Ultimate anyways???Does it make you feel powerful or something, having it and displaying it proudly in your signatures :)??? .I am with you guys, I am just trying to bring to your attention something that is going to happen with a certainty of a 100%.

    Hello there,

I'd like to ask you guys which software you have run in this laptop. I've posted previously which kind of software I'd like to run:

AUTOCad (just to visualize some stuffs), ORCad, MATLab, Multisim, Visual Studio, etc.

I'd like to you if you guys have already ran some of those softwares, and if no, what kind of softwares have you run, that are similar to those.

    Best regards,
    Charles

    What?

If it has bluetooth, you can use bluetooth mice with it.

If it does not have bluetooth, you can use wireless mice that come with their own USB receivers.

You would need a wireless mouse that includes a USB dongle. These are bluetooth receivers that plug into one of the USB ports.

You can add a bluetooth receiver to the 1810, they are available on eBay, but that involves taking the case apart.

Correct me if i'm wrong but....

both the things you said above are the same things...???

a bluetooth mice will have a usb connector and...

a wireless mouse will have a usb connector too...

    So how is it different...???

    Thanks

not true....bluetooth and wireless both simply connect via bluetooth to your laptop if it has bluetooth...no usb connector.

On my 1810T I run a bt mouse, keyboard and headset without any dongle whatsoever...just pair it with the laptop.

bluetooth is a type of wireless protocol, but most wireless mice ARE NOT BT, unless specifically stated. They use a different wireless protocol. If the mouse is just listed as "wireless", then I would assume it is NOT BT, and you would need to use the USB dongle it came with, even if your laptop had built in BT. If you want to take advantage of the built in BT of some Acers, you need to specifically buy a BT mouse, not a generic wireless mouse

No, after using it some more I think it is supposed to be one-finger scrolling but I'm still not sure. At the end of the pointer a circle that looks kind of like a gray bull's eye will appear as I'm moving the pointer. It makes the pointer movement very difficult for me - have used plenty of other notebooks and haven't encountered this "feature" before. I still haven't figured out how to turn it off.

I have an Acer 1810T, SU7300, purchased new in Feb 2010. The HDMI output has a poor, washed-out appearance on my TV. I have used two different HDMI cables and two different TV's. It is definitely the computer. The HDMI actually worked perfectly for a while, but not now. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? THANKS.

I needed something now, so I just bought an 1810 with 4gb, 320gb, SU4100, 6-cell battery, for $429. (new, open box)

Was that a good deal? Are these getting dumped because of the new models coming out?

    Thanks for this thread, folks.

Right on then :) Win some and lose some.* Today it was win.
Assuming they deliver what was advertised... Anybody have experience
with pcconnectionexpress.com? I went there to buy the 3810 for $450
    and found the 1810.

*A couple months ago I got my foot tangled in the cord of my 14" Extensa
and when I got up it landed nicely on the chair and cracked the screen.

Hopefully I'll be ok with the little 11" screen.

Thundernet, yes i got it at pcconnectionexpress.com
Their rating on Bizrate looks ok, so I went for it.
Apparently was the only one, though, cause it's gone
    from their site now.

I just watced an iron man 2 trailer out of curiocity on an 1810TZ and I did have some breaks. On some other 1080p though I have no breaks most of the time.I don't usually watch 1080p in the notebook screen because i don't gain anything by watcing 1080p on a 760p screen.

When dealing with streaming video content like Utube, would a GPU like an Ion 2 help the processor and make the viewing more seamless.

Depends on how Flash 10.1 pans out. In theory the 4500MHD will make 1080P smooth after the official release (and pretty smooth using RC/beta for most people). I get ~18fps on 1080P trailers with Flash 10.1 Beta. But I agree with thundernet...I'm not super interested in watching 1080P video on a 720P screen (plus waiting for it to load).

Hi everyone, I´m new to this forum, and probably will be asking something was already asked, so I apologize in advance.
If I have a 1080P video on my hard disk, will I have any problem watching it?

Loving my 1810T, had it for a few months now. Lately Windows Update has been bugging me to download a new driver for the video and some Atheros network driver.

Should I grab them, or is there a better way to update? Im not having any problems with video or networking.
