I am having followin problem, and its really bugging me. I use the acer at home lid closed connected to a bigger screen using HDMI, its a full hd monitor. The signal seems to not work well, every 5 minutes or sometimes many times per minute the screen goes black and comes back, sometime the windows are in different place, and also the widgets can be in the middle of the screen. I have tried to go trough all settings, nothing should be wrong, also the drivers are updated always as new ones appear on intels site. I have tried many monitors and many cables. Only thing left to do is a clean install of windows 7. I cant find any info on anyone else having the same problem. Really irritating. Another problem is the bluetooth, I use a microsoft bluetooth mouse, every now and then I have to switch the bluetooth on and off when the cursor freezes. Otherwise the acer is a good piece of kit, but these problems are making me consider some other computer, there just arent many options with dual core and mini size and cheap price..

is it ok that 5600mah battery from 1810 doesn't fit into 1410 by default? some plastic on the border of the battery place (that thin silver line next to keypad) makes proper installation impossible

No that's not true. The 1810 and the 1410 have EXACTLY the same batteries. If it doesn't fit then there is something wrong with the battery.

A.Check every possible adjustment in your TV.It seems to be loosing the proper resolution.
B.Have the notebook and the Intel graphics on high performance.
C.Keep the lid open. The notebook may overheating or going to sleep.
D.Use driver 1986 for the Intel graphics.I know they are not the latest. If there is no change you can go back to your previous.Use the Intel TV wizzard in Intel graphics interface.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I dont think overheating is an issue, since I have a cooling stand under the laptop with two fans, and the temperature stayes under 60 celsius.
I have the graphics on high performance. I have not tried the tv wizrard yet, didnt really find it anywhere :) Oh, and it cant be going to sleep, because this problems occurs usually just when I am doing something, or when I dont even touch the computer, it does not matter what I do. I am starting to suspect there is something wrong with the hardware.

The 1986 driver contain the TV wizzard in the Intel interface...Maybe the HDMI port is defective and it doesn't make good contact but that is unusual....

dont seem like a bad contact, jiggling the connection dont make a difference. Its a really difficult problem to fix when there is no clear signs what is causing it..
oh and also, I tested with VGA, same problem, and with VGA the picture quality takes a hit. Its gotta be a hardware problem, I just know if I send it for service they return it with no repair, coz if u quickly try out it works just fine..
edit: the only thing to do is to keep the lid open and set the external display as only display.

has anyone tried running StarCraft2 on the SU3500 model? I'm curious if it would work and can't find any tests on google or youtube so far.

Again those specs seem hit & miss, a P4 2.6GHz is a single core 32bit, SU3500 is a single core 64bit cpu and I read it's a dual thread cpu unlike the single thread P4. The graphics card although doesn't mention the 4500MHD this can have up to 1244MB of shared video memory and seems to come with 64MB dedicated video mem & 64MB dedicated texture mem.

All the system requirements on the Blizzard site I can literally run on my IBM PC from 2001 using RDRAM. I find it odd that a Core 2 Solo cannot perform equal or better than a P4 2.6GHz single core.

I tried the SCII beta on the 1410 w/ the SU2300 (Dual core). I had to run it on lowest setting and lower the resolution to 800 x 600 to make it barely playable. This is a game that likes multiple cores too, so I wouldn't have much hope about running it on a su3500.

Plus with that resolution and quality settings I just felt like I was playing Starcraft 1 with 3D units.

I have my DWM service turned off, did you try changing the texture setting in the Intel display driver? It has performance, balance, and quality. I think there's other performance settings inside the intel driver too.

The Texture setting was at default and there were no other options regarding performance. I don't see that making a big difference as using system memory instead of dedicated RAM is a huge bottleneck. To add to that the processing power of the 4500MHD is probably a quarter of the minimum card they recommend (6600GT 128MB).

As for DWM, Windows disables Aero when you go into a full screen 3D application so that shouldn't make a difference.

Hi everyone, I haven't gone laptop shopping since late last year when the 1810TZ wasn't even out yet. What attracted me to the 1810TZ was how much 'bang for your buck' it had.

With StarCraft 2 just being released I was wondering if the 1810TZ can run StarCraft 2 smoothly with the lowest graphical settings. Also, are there any new and better alternatives than the 1810TZ?

    Thanks!

I am planning to buy ACER 1410-232G25n. WHat is the capacity of the battery for this?

It is very confusing to know the battery configurations for 1410, 1410T and 1810T and 1810TZ.

I am trying to find the model that has the longest battery life.

That model has a 6 Cell. I think you can buy larger capacity batteries from Ebay but I think that is the best you can do on the stock 1410T. Mine has been flawless since I bought it last March. It is a great travel unit. Who still has them for sale? I thought they were replaced by the 752?

There are still some retailers that have them in my country. If these are replaced by the 752, is it worth to buy the 752 instead or is this just a model number change and the specs and quality are still exactly the same?

The 752 is better looking IMO. That's about it. I know that Walmarts in Canada had a bunch of the 752's but they had 3 cell batteries.

All of the 1410/1810 models have 6 cell batteries. The 1410 models come with a 6-cell that is rated for 6 hours while the larger capacity 6-cell battery in the 1810 series if rated for 8 hours. If you want the larger battery, then you should buy the 1810. Your other option is to purchase the larger capacity battery for the 1410 since the batteries are interchangeable.

    Regarding static noise from speakers.

yes, and the static, or anyway, noise comes whenever there´s any sound, ex. when windows own sounds and so on.

    Okay.
And there is the same effect if you are useing headphones instead of the built-in speakers?

What I would try: disable all "effects" and "improvements" from the audio settings. Perhaps this helps already.

I think the static is due to the "Loudness Equalization" or else it's the treble set too high. Go to the Enhancement tab of the Speakers device sound properties. Uncheck "Environment", "Pitch Shift", "Equalizer", and maybe "Loudness Equalization". If this works then you need to play with the pitch, treble, and environment to reduce the amount of treble your speakers are trying to play. I also started hearing this static or over-trebling when I tried removing the MMSS entry from the audiosrv key in the registry and disabled the MMSS service in the services control panel.

I'm looking for instructions on how to properly and fully configure the bundled McAfee Internet Security Suite to have a good balance between performance and protection. I'm an advanced user and never install random toolbars/adware etc. I'm careful about those misleading bloatware so I don't need full BHO protection; I would however like to know how to configure McAfee for decent->above average BHO protection in case I have to help a user of that level.

Don't even start with your suggestions to getting a different AV I know already and personally use something else. I just want to know how to properly configure McAfee Internet Security Suite in case I'm in a situation where there's nothing else available.

I've been searching online and can't find any instructions/recommendations for it.

    Hi,
Yes. Additionally, it seems that this software is of no use since you can tweak the power options in Win7 very detailled. Even better: create your own power profile according to your demands. ePower stuff can be uninstalled.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you really would be better off uninstalling and installing avast or avg. Both use less system resources and are free (with paid versions) I personally run Avast Pro on all my computers. Just buy the family pack for WHS, it'll give you 10 Pro licenses.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you guys are getting a little off topic. There are over 4000 mostly useful post in this thread that are intended to help 1410/1810 users. The next batch of posts will surely be a flame war about anti-virus software and a waste of time for the majority of viewers.

    Ghetto_Child,

Just because you own a 14101810 doesn't mean that you should use this thread to discuss anything you would like. This isn't the first time you have done this so stop wasting our time and start posting your questions in the appropriate forum. There have been other discussions on here that have strayed off topic, but for the most part they started on topic and drifted off. I understand that discussions that drift from "on-topic" to a more general topic can be useful. But I see absolutely no need to start one that has nothing to do with the original topic.

I've read somewhere that epower can turn off devices that windows itself can't turn off... do you think that's true? Is there any downside having it installed?

I'll probably get flak too. :)

Funny thing about all of this is that I started this thread because the original 1810 thread had gotten so larger that is was impossible to mine the useful information out of it. Now this one is even bigger.

This might be true with other laptops, but since there is no user interface on the 1810...
One thing I noticed: During installation, ePower seems to adjust a couple of default power plans.
Another useless process running in the background. You may install it to have the Acer defaults, then uninstall.

you've completely lost me now, this thread is titled 1410 and 1810 timeline 11.6" right? I'm asking for directions/instructions to best tune the mcafee internet security that comes bundled in the 1410 series. At least it came bundled in my 1410-8803. How is this question off topic? It definately doesn't belong in the 1410/1810 tweaks thread so what other 1410 related thread would a question about properly tuning the bundled software go?

OK, please accept my apologies. I thought you said you personal use another AV and assumed you were asking a general question.

BTW, the best AV system out there is to USE LINUX!

No what I was trying to express is that I don't need/want suggestions to use other brands of anti-virus. I'm fully aware there are many other far better solutions out there and currently on my personal systems use other brands/solutions too. For this specific 1410 laptop I wanted someone to at least point me where to get instructions to best tune the bundled McAfee Internet Security because I want to know how to best configure that bundled solution before I remove it for good. The knowledge will be very useful should I ever be faced with this McAfee as my only option.

Hi all. I have a question and a request:

    1) Does anyone know where I can find a reasonable price on the Acer 1410 or 1810? I can deal with the shorter battery life version and I don't care how much memory it has or about hard drive size. I would, I think, like a dual core CPU so an SU2300 or higher would be preferable to the version with the SU3500, but see my next paragraph.

    2) I have, over the last two days, read every page of this thread so I have a decent sense of what these machines are like and can do. One thing I have not seen addressed in enough detail is the actual practical differences between getting a single core version and a dual core one. Reviews online suggest that battery life doesn't vary greatly between the two, assuming that they both have the same milliamp/hour battery. I would like to hear from anyone who has used BOTH single and dual core versions as to whether there will be an inability to perform some tasks on the single core machine or whether it will perform poorly/slowly on some tasks. And I really am looking for experiential data, not suggestions/thoughts based on technical specifications. I have looked at all the charts of CPUmark comparisons, etc. I am interested in what happened when you actually used it.

    TIA

    Dan

I've been playing wth my 1810tz since I got it two days ago. Firstly I was under the impression that the cover would be metal - its plastic. Not a biggy I guess.

The one thing I am very surprised with is the amount of bloatware!!! I can't believe how SLOW this machine is out of the box! Simply booting and loading firefox up for the first time takes forever! Launching an installer after downloading it took about ten seconds of waiting. I can only hope this is the bloatware or else this machine is flying back to where I got it. My gf's Eee jobbie is killing it in basic performance right now.

The Aspire 752 is the current version of the 1410T. I know that Canadian Walmarts had a bunch of these with 3 cell batteries for around $350 CN. They have the SU2300 like mine.

There is still a model being sold on Amazon but it is around $500 which is way too much.

I highly recommend a fresh install of Windows, as my 1810 was fast only after doing that. Deinstalling all the bloatware didn't really help a lot, but now it's really nice and fast! :)

It may be a diabolical plot on the part of Acer. This is a warning to all of you that have a desk top computer you use and love. Ever since I got my 1410 dual processor I have loved it and fed it, I fed it a new 500GB HD and I fed it 4GB of memory and I fed it Win 7 Ultimate. Now I carry it with me to work and home, I get it out and use it everywhere and I have stopped using my very nice desk top at my home office. The 1410 is all I need……. I promised it I would not trade it in for a more ultra compact with a faster CPU and bigger HD or screen or longer battery life for at least 2 years….. I am hooked, it is a diabolical plot….. I love my 1410

Can't complain. Perhaps you didn't get all of the decelerating software ;)

Um, what's a "desk top computer"? Is that like when I place my 1410 on my desk? :)

did you reinstall the copy provided by Acer? That would install all the bloat too wouldn't it? Are you suggesting I buy a copy or perhaps find it online with less-than-legal means?
