This may have already been asked, but:
Does the Wifi card on the 1810T support 5ghz 802.11n or only 2.4ghz? It's only listing my connection to a dual band router as 150mbps -
It depends on your card. The Intel WiFi link 1000 supports 2.4GHz only. See Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 - Overview
Michael -
I figured it out. This 1810T has a Wifi Link 5100 by the way, supports 5ghz.
Anyway is it worthwhile to update the BIOS? There have been two updates since the one I have on here. I can't find a changelog. -
I updated with every BIOS revision, because I have this computer OCD thing, I just HAVE to update every time
I only noticed a difference with the latest update (battery drain)...
I think some people exaggerate the risk of wrecking the bios during update. Just make sure you close all programs, and AC is plugged in, and you should be fine. But really, if you don't have any problems, then don't update
-
Okay.
It depends. My own 1810TZ suffered from the battery drain problem (lost ~5% of a full charge daily with shutdown computer) which has been fixed by the latest Bios update 3314.
Michael -
I used to always update the BIOS on anything whenever I saw an update available - until I got a vbios update for my gpu on the Dell in my sig. It bricked the card (and thus the PC itself) till I bought another D800 and ripped the video components from it for replacement.
You wouldn't think a seven year old PC would cost so much, but god damn I think I ended up paying like $400. Dell wanted $500 for the part and the install, and said it would take months to get the part.
EDIT: Very stupid question, but- if I'm using 64bit Windows I need to x64 bios update file, right? The x86 version is a no go? -
Yes, use the x64 version. I had never tried the 86 variant.

Hello people
I have the 1410, i am really happy with it, with the su2300 and 3GB RAM, on Win7 64-bit.
I was wondering, is this CPU replaceable or is it soldered? Can i fit here a SU7300, or even a normal non-culv core2duo like the t6600?
Thanks
-
soldered - so enjoy its performance as it is!
-
Ok
the permormance is pretty good, i'm pretty impressed, it even runs FL Studio 9 and Traktor Pro perfectly!
-
Ends up not to completely eliminate the drain problem for me but it's much better.
Powered mine up last night. Was at 70% last weekend, 51% today. So I was at 5-6% per day, now at 2-3% per day. -
Flashed the latest BIOS without incident, but since I only ever use a/c I guess it doesn't matter either way. It's always nice to have the newest version though.
Also has anyone had luck getting Civ 5 to run on an 1810T? I have it just borderline unplayable. -
Civ4 doesn't run properly, so can't imagine that Civ5 goes any better.
-
Interesting. You may check the settings of your network adapter and disable the "Wake-on-LAN" options. This is what I did, but before the Bios update this had no measurable effect.

Did anybody play Counter Strike Source on 1410 SU2300 Machine? I would buy the game but dont know how good it run on the machine. I have 4GB Ram and HP x64 latest Intel driver...
-
Anyone had success with Amnesia the Dark Descent on the 1810T?
-
hi frens...
Is the 1810T or 1810TZ still available for purchase anywhere in usa...??
thanks -
I think they are phasing out. Here in Germany, they are getting rare also (a local store offered the 1810TZ for 369€, which is a bargain here)
Michael -
-
guys...
does the 1810t have a higher capacity battery than the 1810tz & the 1410 models ?
thanks -
This depends on the configuration. Normally, I would expect the vendor to mention the battery capacity.
My 1810TZ came with a 62 Wh battery, and I am not aware of a larger battery that has been for other models of that series. Also, at least Acer Germany has no larger battery in its online shop.
Michael -
The 1810T and TZ have the 5600mAh battery. The 1410 has the 4400mAh battery.
-
can anybody confirm whether the T- resp. TZ-model batteries are interchangable or not?
-
Hi,
since these are simply different configuration options of the same computer, you can of course install a battery from an 1810T in a 1810TZ. If you can't then you have a huge problem.
Michael -
I even swap them between our Gateway and Acer 1410.
-
Has anyone managed to install a 3g modem on these things? I have the tablet version which is very similar to the 1810 (SU7300 processor etc).
Would really like to use a built-in 3g modem instead of the usb modem that sticks out of the tablet. -
-
I'm tired of the 4400 mAh battery on my 1410 (SU2300) ruining my fun and running out of charge after just 3-4 hours (I tend to do some heavier cpu tasks).
I've debated getting an eBay battery, maybe a 5200 mAh version, but hesitated because I was worried about the quality of these things. I need a backup battery to throw in my case for such occasions where I don't have access to an outlet.
Any suggestions? Or favorite eBay sellers that sell good batteries?
Thank you for your feedback! -
Thanks Michael, I know I got a different model (1820PT tablet), but hope that it would similar enough to these guys to do the fixes necessary for 3G (1080p playback etc). Got most of it done except 3G.
-
Same here, but would love a higher capacity battery...am going on a 15 hour flight and am hoping to last as much of that as possible.
Are the 7800mh batterys on ebay real...should i expect a lot more juice then the ebay 5200mah batterys. has anybody bought one? Battery life?
Or any other battery recommendations to extend my battery life as far as possible.
(running aspire 1410) -
I think they stick out a little on the back, but I'm not sure...
-
You can be sure, since a battery of that capacity is probably a nine-cell battery. I am not aware of Acer officially selling 9-cell batterys for that laptop series, so I am not sure if this would fit perfectly in the battery compartment. Also, the 7800 mAh capacity could be as well simply a marketing figure.
Michael -
That is my concern. i would've thought with the abundance of users here one person would have tried and tested one. Not too bothered about it sticking out..just want to know if the capacity is correct because 7800mah looks very tempting
-
Hey Guys,
I just wanted to say thanks for a great forum. I read this one from the beginning, as an aid to help me get an ultra portable note book, as my 14' ASUS probably weighs about 6 lbs, so not easy to take along.
I was debating between:
Acer Aspire AS1830TZ-4393 (U5400, 3gb DDR3 Ram and 320 GB hard drive) for 499.00 at NCIX here in Vancouver.
Then I found:
ACER ASPIRE AS1810TZ-4484 (Olympic Edition) at the Source for 399.00
Acer Aspire AS1810TZ-4484 Laptop Computer | Demo Laptops | Ratings & Reviews | TheSource.ca
And I decided to go with it as I happen to have a 2GB stick of DR2 laying around, and I have a 500GB WD Scorpio Black in an enclosure (Hope the AS1810 is SATA and not IDE) I can put in it. I don't know if the Processor will make that big of a difference for my basic needs, as I can game on my other systems.
But I found this thread very interesting and helpful in making my decision to find a light, and powerful non-ATOM based system. I was a little worried about ACER as a brand, but I think I made a good choice after reading your posts.
Regardless, Thanks for your Knowledge!!!
CC -
^Of course is SATA.$399 is a great deal.
-
Great!! Thanks for the info!
looks like it will be here today according to the tracking link anyway?
Is it pretty straight forward swapping out the hard drive? I know in my other notebook, once the cover is removed , there is a plastic tag, and just pull back and it's out. I actually have not seen the ACER 11.6 in person, and I tried looking on youtube for a video showing this, but no luck there.
Thanks in advance!

It's a 2 minute job.Couldn't be any easier.Actually there are not even screws in the actual HDD.Just a ribbon that you remove from the old one and attach to the new one.
-
Look here for a good deal on the Gateway version of the 1810tz. The model number listed is the Red one, but people said they are actually getting the Black version (with Bluetooth even??)
I just picked one up. Hard to pass up the battery life on these and I like the reaccessed track pad on our Gateway slightly better than the one on our Acer. -
Thanks again Thundernet for the info. Stupid question......Whats the ribbon for? I know my ASUS does not have a Ribbon???
To Ohiomoto. That seems like a pretty good deal. I actually may have gone that option too, I could have lived with the 320GB HD. I like the looks of the Gateways, But I also like the silver Acer Olympics too!
Cheers,
CC -
Τhe ribbon is attached to the sata connection on one end and the notebook on the other.First you remove the ribbon from the notebook then the SATA connection(with the attached ribbon)from the old HDD.Then you attach the sata connection to the new HDD and attach the other end of the ribbon to the notebbok again. The ribbon is how data is tranfered from the hdd to the notebook...It should take you 1.47"
if you are really slow....

Did u think I have a performance advantage if I install Windows XP indeed 7?
-
No.
Additionally, Win7 has the much better power management.
Michael -
After more than a year of daily use, the battery on my 1410 is down about 15%. I would have been spending $80 or so to replace it at some point so I figured I may as well just put that towards the Gateway.
I've been watching the 1830s. Considering the price, Broadcom wireless cards (bad with Linux) and less than stellar battery life, I decided that I would rather buy the SU4100 now.
I think I'm going to send it back and have Windows removed to save another $60-$65 since I already own a copy of Windows 7. (I really never use Windows anyway.) Then I'll sell my 1410 for a couple of hundred bucks. When it is all said and done my upgrade will probably only cost me about $100 more than if I had just replaced my battery and it should hold me over another year or two. -
My 1810TZ just showed up!!! YAY
And to my surprise, it was brand new factory sealed. (On the Source web site, they indicated that they were demo's). If they are demo's, they must have sent them to acer for re-packaging, and putting the cellophane on the lid, around the bezel, and the battery packaging etc...
I really feel like I got a good deal now!! I really like the look of the Olympic silver, only neg is the Bilingual keyboard!! Can't win them all I guess.
Burning the factory restore disc's as I type this, when there done, I will be putting the new hard drive in tonight after the Hockey game, and add my other stick of RAM to bump this little bad boy to 4gb.
I really think this will meet my needs, I was looking at the new 1930's with the i3 and i5 processors, and at the end of the day, I really don't think the extra 250-350 bucks was really worth it.
I will post my final thoughts probably tomorrow after I get everything reloaded and a chance to play with it.
As you can tell, I'm excited, this was better than what I was expecting!!!LOL -
Hey guys,
I'm posting this here as I've run out of ideas and this is a last attempt before I decide to reformat...
I had some virus/malware problems and since my 1410 won't boot into Windows anymore.
I made a thread on techsupportforum.com but they seem to have ran out of ideas too. This is the link to save me from typing everything out again:
Windows 7 not booting (following virus/malware symptoms) - Tech Support Forum
If any of you knowledgeable peeps have 5 minutes to spare and could have a read through and suggest any ideas you may have to fix my problem I'd be eternally grateful!
Thanks in advance...

Download a legal copy of win7 from here(preferably the ISO method) burn it and run repair. To be honest personally I would reinstall. What's the big deal???And you will have a quaranted clean pc at its best.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html -
I agree. If you have some data you need, you can use an Ubuntu Live cd/usb to move it. Any viruses it contains won't affect Linux. The problem is that you need to make sure that data is clean before you use it in Windows. This is one of the reasons I prefer Linux over Windows.
-
Thanks.
Would running repair from one of those Win 7 isos not amount the the same thing I tried already with the Windows recovery disc (startup repair, restore point etc)?
I've already backed up all my data. I just shudder at the thought of having to reinstall all the programs, firefox extensions/bookmarks/sessions, updates, thunderbird profiles, codecs, etc etc etc.
Although it may actually takes less time than downloading the iso, repairing it and then having to clean all the malware. Hmmmm....... -
Oh, and if I do decide to go down the reformat route, am I better off just using Acer's eRecovery to reset to factory settings or would it be better to install a fresh copy of Win 7 from one of those isos? Are all the drivers etc easy to get hold of or is it going to add hours to the process?
