The price difference is roughly 18 US dollars here between those two kittys![]()

Some more info about 1810tz in that Swiss shop:
There is also a 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 3G version on the site for 619€ -
Nice video playback benchmarks SU3500 vs. SU9400 with X4500:

-
Edit:
Also that converted difference of $18 is between 1810t and 1810tz not 1410 and 1810tz. -
-
I agree, but it's very likely the price difference between SU3500 and SU2300 will be less than $100 (if all other parts are equal).

@phil:
And there is my problem: if this is right, and there is a 1410 with the su2300 and a 1810t with the su3500, and the 1410 is 100$ cheaper and faster - does acer really think that they will sell some 1810t ??
Even if the battery of the 1410 is slightly weaker (maybe 7h to 8h of the 1810).
There has to be a bigger difference between these two, justifying the higher price.
Comparing the 1810t ( http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a448702.html ) and the 1410 with the su2300 ( http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a454375.html ) i noticed that they stated that the X4500HD shares up to 384MB RAM, whereas the 1810T shares up to 1782MB - why the difference ? Is it just a mistake ?

Edit:
We are getting into trouble here comparing localized configurations. I suppose that a 1410 with su3500 won't be available in Europe. The European 1410 versions come either with Celeron or su2300. The American 1410 with su3500 doesn't fit in that scheme, so price predictions are very difficult. -
The price prediction would be just between the posted prices for the localized 1410 with su2300 and the 1810t with the su3500, which is 50€ in favor of the 1410.
edit:
I guess Acer gives the "standart" CULV (su3500 and su4100) the Timeline-tag (fitting into the whole series) and the low-cost CPU line (743, su2300) is named 1410 - at least in europe. Maybe they have forfitted this for the us-market in favor of a more homogeneous picture and you will see only modells named 1410.

@john:
i was talking about a european configuration which might also be available in the states.

I would assume they reserve the 'timeline' tag for computers with 8 hours autonomy. In the US, the 1410 only has a battery life of 6 hours.
Maybe the US 1810T has the same specs but with the 5600mAh battery and some other minor upgrade (bluetooth?). -
Yes indeed, the Timeline tag is reserved for 8 hours battery life.
That's why the 1410 isn't called Timeline. -

The 1410 is in stock here:
http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Acer_Aspire_1410_8414/LXSA90X059/10942146
And I heard from another website that Amazon has them in stock. So, what is going on over at J&R? -
I was going to order it, but I forgot its subject to sales tax if I ship it to Washington (~$43). I guess I'll wait for J&R to get their act together. I'll call them on Monday to see whats going on. -
-
Did anyone else get the "Backordered" email from J&R? Or was that just me, because they think ticking off tech bloggers is a good idea?
-
I got the same email 4 days after I ordered. Looks like it was just automatically generated; I'm hoping to get the "we've shipped your order" email sometime this week but who knows.

With all the hype and rumors of new products just weeks away... no one goes out and buys what's there as they all want to wait for the next best thing.. or HGR (High Goods returned Rate) are generated (US Style Try Before u Buy), or the Sellers are nervous RLC (Reduced Life Cycle :- too short) so they under stock and you end up with UCD (Unsatisfied Consumer Demand) .... its call the Osborn Syndrome ... !!!
Unfortunately the lead times means that to create a NEW version, they have to go through Productization and Homologation which can take 3-6 months.. usually the hype starts at the point that the senior management, agrees to build , Concept it created and press release/launch event made... now they build it and run off to FCC (TUV) etc for Regulatory Approvals.. thats why you still see product announcements/launches and wait months to buy..
Then you have the release schedules for the different markets, collateral creation & production, Local Safety & Regulatory Approval... even for someone like acer, to go from NPR (No Planned Release) to OSD (On Shelf Date) we are talking of a minimum of 3 months, for a single region -
just made file intensive (I/O, swopping ) faster.. , and the UI where files or App loading is concerned snapper... -
According to this http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Solo+U3500+@+1.40GHz intel atom processors are better than su3500.
-
^That chart is interesting.
They also have mutliple listings for the Intel N270. Listed once as "Intel N270 1.60GHz " and another time as "Intel Core N270 1.60 GHz", different scores. -
Posters elsewhere have said that Bing's cash back is now at 14% for J&R.
Final delivered cost equals $387. Nice!
BTW
My Bing account did not show Pending Credit for a 1410 ordered 10 days ago .
I canceled that order Saturday 8/22 because I'm waiting for the SU4100 with maybe Bluetooth, 3.5G wireless, & the 8 hour battery.
The very nice Customer Representitive said J&R normally does not normally contact Bing until the order ships. Could be. -
-
Indeed. That 267 score is not right.
-
That chart doesn't make sense. A u2100 @1.06 got a 323, but the u3500 @ 1.40 got a 267??? No way...
-
A new contender has arrived! The Gateway EC1803h. Wow, it feels like a new laptop in this class is being announced each day
-
actually the link to the chart was in phil's review blog..i also think that the chart is incorrect.
-
-
-
BTW, with the cash back up to 14% I may just buy the 1410 and live with the 6 cell battery. Heck I bet I can get 8 hours out of it anyway if my Asus 1000HE is any judge of battery life. -

It would be possible that 4GB helps video playback. Did you test that yet? -
I would think the Acer branded ones would have better specs. Just like since HP acquired Compaq, there are still Compaq branded computers but they are usually budget oriented with lower end specs. -
In Europe the Gateway models are sold under the Packard Bell brandname and they generally have slightly better specs and higher prices.
-
I am getting confused with all the model numbers and variations of this 1410/1810 model, such as it being called 1410 in the U.S and 1810 elsewhere.
I think I will wait a few months until it is widely available in the U.S which I may purchase to take on a trip to India in December and replace my Vaio TZ. I am very excited to see an ultraportable at near netbook prices! -
Well 1410 is used for the 4400mAh battery models, 1810T (Timeline) is used for 5600mAh battery models. Other than that, it's just looking at specs.
The reason why Acer did this seems to be separating the Timeline brand with 8 hours battery life from the rest. -

Interesting videos der_mali. Seems like they used some lighter Youtube videos than I did. Too bad they're not showing CPU usage.
PS. the first link is not working. -

Btw, the shop has a fairly high ranking of 1.21
To those who doubt that those shop links are legit and think that they just try to create traffic, I have to say that the market rules in Europe are fairly strict. A Shop would risk to be sued by competitors. -
