@mali
Yey, I did and its same. If I use SmartFan with the settings I found, exactly the same happens: The fan slows down to the setted value an than goes back to the fan speed that is prescribed by the bios fan control.
(This is possible with higher modes too. I can set the fan from slow or middle mode to the high speed mode for two seconds, but then the bios slows it back to the original programmed speed.)
So the SmartFan control basically works, but it is permanently overridden by the bios prescribed settings.

. And if i use VobSub (CPU only) There is no picture at all.

Can anyone verify for me if the 1410 comes with an empty RAM slot? Also, what RAM does it come with (800mhz or 667mhz)? I'm considering upgrading to 4GB but don't know if I should buy a PC2-6400 or PC2-5300 (800 or 667mhz). (I haven't yet received my 1410.)
With my 1000HE I bought 800mhz so I would have some room for overclocking. Doesn't the SU3500 have an 800mhz FSB? -
At least the 1810T has an empty RAM solt and it comes with a 2GB 667MHZ Samsung module.
I think it is the same in the 1410. -
Edit:
It would be good if someone who installed XP could try the same. -
su4100 WEI Update!
Someone else got his 1810tz and the CPU scores 4.5 in Vista like expected
In an older link I posted a while ago Sony's Vaio TT scored 4.4 with su9300. 1810tz will rock the house. At least houses in China -
-
Still the most interesting thing would be a comparison between single channel and dual channel performance, so come on guys/gals!
Edit:
Picture of the full WEI score. Unfortunately the pic is too large to put it in the post.

Can anyone tell me if the Saphire Blue version has a brushed aluminum palm rest under the keyboard like the Diamond Black or is it glossy and attracts fingerprints?
-
@schenky
It's not glossy on the blue model, either. The brushed aluminum finish is fake. It's just painted plastics. -

Awesome, I will check out my Houston Micro Center this week, its on the way to school.
EDIT: Its on their website, and 24 are listed in stock at my location, but only blue is available for now.

Can we get it from newegg.com.cn??

@yus9
I would leave it to Phil, he wants PassMark CPU score. Do you speak Chinese? The board is here:

SU2300 vs. SU3500 would be more interesting. -
I'm wondering if there's really that much to be gained from Core 2 Duo vs. Core 2 Solo. You're looking at nearly double the TDP which will impact battery life noticeably, not to mention the higher price of C2D. This SU3500 seems like the sweet spot to me. It has Virtualization Technology and is 64-bit and has a TDP of 5.5 watts.
I just don't do enough heavy multi-tasking to take advantage of dual-core. I don't think I'd be willing to pay extra for the privilege. Among sub-$500 small laptops, the 1410 seems to be the winner, at least for my needs and wants. -

Thank you for your quick reply. Another question I have a spare 300 gig 7200 rpm drive and a spare 500 gig 5400 rpm drive? Do I gain speed with either one? Is it a bigger drain on the battery? Thanks
-
-
Also, some of the 5400rpm drives are rated as better than the 7200rpm ones:
Here's an in-depth review of 5 500GB laptop hard drives that you'll find interesting:
http://techreport.com/articles.x/17010
You'll see that the Western Digital drive (at 5400rpm) was rated best of the lot, which included a 7200rpm drive with double the cache. -
Futher more, the SU9400 will consume more power when it is on full load. But that will rarely happen in most scenario's. It will also finish jobs quicker than SU3500 and go into idle sooner.
I think the question should really be: what do you need? But then again, I actually only need SU3500 but may opt for SU2300 or SU4100.

Concerning the fan control
The program "a1ctl" works too, but with the same problems we saw with SmartFan. In contrast to SmartFan for "a1ctl" the sourve code is availible under:
http://nodadev.wordpress.com/
Maybe someone is able to fix the problem we have (keep sending the right signals...)!
[By the way: 0x1F seems to be the code for stop fan.] -
@dirgro
Maybe lepton is interested to have a look at a1ctl. You could drop him a PM. This is what he said earlier about SmartFan:

Hey Guys,
On my 1410 when I lift it up and tilt it from side to side, the fan noise changes like its getting really close to the edge or something.. is this normal? Is anybody else having this issue or is it normal?
Thanks -
I figured there would be more settings, since I was only able to decrease the fanspeed with the values found (posted earlier) from what normal fan operation was, but could that be the max fan speed?
About the Windows 7 index; I have a 3.2 in Windows 7, but the number is grey. Guess it needs to be updated because of new driver installation.
processor speed=3.3
memory operations per second=4.8 (stock 2Gb module)
Desktop Performance for windows aero=3.2
3D business and graphics performance=3.2
Disk Data transfer rate=5.4
I'll run it again later this evening and post differences.
I installed the graphics driver from intel posted a few pages ago. I wonder if it is an improvement of the driver Win7 picked itself (device was named the same as it is now with the new driver), since when UAC kicks in; with the old (windows 7 picked) driver, the screen would dim and I would see the messagebox instantly. With the new driver, the screen goes black, dims and after this I see the messagebox. So I doubt which driver is better.
Anybody got Bluetooth working on Win7? I haven't tried anything yet (like Vista drivers from Acer support), but Device manager doesn't show a Bluetooth radio.
And anybody (succesfully) installed the acer power management software? If so, where did you get it?
Any other important Windows 7 drivers that need to be installed? I guess I only installed the Acer Launch Manager to get the shortcut keys working. Recently I also installed the updated intel driver, but as stated earlier, I doubt if it is an improvement. -
I just called amazon and fixed the issue with them. New eta is wed with free 2 day shipping.
-
With Asus now jumping on Ion, does anyone know if Acer are planning the same?
An 1810TZ with an Ion, even if Ion-LE, and high capacity battery life (5600 mah) would be a winner!
That would compete easily with the Samsung N510 - if not beat it outright in performance! -
Atom N270/280 seems to be allowed with ION. Samsung N510 is already being sold here.
I doubt we're going to see SU3500/9400 etc with ION. Intel will try to block it I guess. But who knows... -
Good point Phil - and thanks for quick reply.
There doesn't seem to be much interest on these forums for the Samsung N series - not as much as Acer's.
It would be great if a comparison review can be done between the N510 and 1410/1810T, especially for overall performance and of course, battery life.
I do wish the Acer series had a matte screen though - with my poor vision, reflections on netbooks are a nightmare for me. I sold a HP 2140 for that reason. -
@hanybanoub
I've seen a pretty cool device recently, it's a pair of sunglasses that is polarized in such a way that it dims ambient light and only lets through light from the LCD. Reviews say that it's great for using Net/Notebooks outdoors.
I'd rather have a CULV plus Ati 4330. Battery life is only minimal less than with 4500MHD and it can also be switched off.
I think we can expect a 11.6" CULV+Ati4330 combo sometime next year.
@Cusem
Thanks for posting the WEI score -
der_mali, you don´t know the mark of the sunglasses perhaps exactly ?
if yes, thanks

@icefiresr
It's called glarewear
http://www.netbookreviews.net/news/glarewear-review/ -
-
And I wouldn't be surprised if Acer gets huge discounts at the moment for being loyal to Intel. They'd loose the discounts if they started ditching Intel chipsets and graphics. -
-
I canceled my amazon order today for the black one and went to J&R. I called amazon and the person on the phone said that the black ones are still considered a preorder even though it said they were in stock when I ordered them, pretty lame. J&R assured me that they do have them in stock. I hope they ship mine soon.
-
@raydabruce
Yep, it's the huge price difference that practically blocks such solutions by making them unprofitable.
-
-
@raydabruce
Intel is up to every trick, just look at the recent punishment by the EU for greasing retailers to dismiss AMD products. Some day they will fall. -
