Yeah the SU4100 has twice the power of the SU2700.
Samsung's build quality is usually a bit better. -
Unfortunately they are going to price themselves out of the market, 514 pounds for a laptop just because its build quality is better compared to a similar laptop releasing at the same time of the year which has a twice as powerful processor.
Throw in the SU4100 into the samsung and ill buy it over the acer any day, who is honestly going to need a 9hour battery life and i doubt it with a 4 cell sounds too exagerated, they should give a better processor even if it cuts down the battery life by lets say 2 or 3 hrs its no problem. -
meh :-( I'll wait for one with an SU9400 and hopefully ION (or better) graphics.
-
i might just give up waiting and go buy a macbook pro 13.3 inch, they are handing out 150 pound student discounts and free ipod touch. Waiting is so hard
-
If you want to lug around a 2KG notebook I suggest you go ahead
-
I think SU9400 + ION will never happen, more likly SU9600 + ION, but I think a notebook with this combination will be priced pretty high, what I would like to see is 4100 + ION for about ~550 this would be insane.
About the problems I read here (bad headphone sound, fan noise), these have to be factory failures, I do not experience these with my 1810T. Headphone is good (as far as onboard goes) without CPU sounds and the fan keeps quite. Only after one or two hours AC on high it starts to get loud for some minutes but calms down again then. -
Yeah just noticed that, the 9hours is for the 6 cells. I just got off the livechat with a Samsung rep who said there was no 6-cell option for the X120. He also didn't have a US release date. However, the link below, has a reference to 9 hour computing in the title for the X120. They tie in the X120 to 9 hour battery life. Very confusing imo. I would be super impressed if the could get 9 hours from a 4 cell on average user settings.
What are you looking at? LinkShows a SU4100. -
http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.asp?pn=NP-X120-FA03UK&referer=Froogle
this is really confusing, those guys are admant that the processor they have listed is correct, perhaps the Su4100 will come with a model that will be even more expensive? -
5 years of that
painful just to imagine that
-
I've seen blogposts and such with references to the X120 using a Celeron. I think I'm going to go with Samsung's official site though, That's just me.
-

Clearly shows there will be a 6 cell option which will allow the 9hour battery life, 4 cell can never give that much time.
It also shows that there are 2 processors,
1) intel core 2 duo mobile processor
2) intel pentium mobile processor
This shows perhaps that they will release different models and also with the link i provided earlier we can get a basic idea of the price.
From their official website, heres a quote
"With 4 hours of juice, the X120’s extended battery life sets you free. Opt for a 6-cell battery to achieve up to 9 hours* of power and go all day long. Its energy efficient LED display and the optimized processing performance of the Intel mobile processor ensure the X120’s ultra-long performance. Whether you’re editing photos during a transatlantic flight or checking email from your favorite café, searching for an electrical outlet to plug into is finally a thing of the past. *Battery life based on BatteryMark test scores that will vary based on configuration." -
Update on WEI from fresh install of Windows 7 x64. Scores slightly improved, but not enough to be noticeable in real world use:

Gaming graphics: 3.2
Primary hard disk: 5.1
After 4GB Dual channel + Intel Graphics Update from Windows Update:

More information in Sweden now of the 1810TZ model. Release 2009-09-11.
For example here.
There is also a free upgrade offer to Win7. Seems like this upgrade it fairly internationally available. However, in the fine print only the 1810T model is eligable. Probably to be fixed soon I hope. With a free upgrade to win7 it looks like a purchase is imminent!
Acer Win7 upgrade offer here. -
That's nice
Which RAM are you using(speed, latency)?
Are you a gamer?
If so, could you please do a Doom 3 timedemo(640x480, medium+high) and Half-Life 2 test?
@Barsk
That's good news
I hope we get a Vista 1810tz here, too. Till October 22nd is still a long way to go for a geek

This is the important info, the SKU: LX.PJ50X.094 -
One person's personal review of his 1410. Sorry if this has already been posted.
http://www.studentbuyingguide.com/2009/09/acer-aspire-1410-review/ -
Nice review.
* Faster Intel Core Solo processor and better Intel graphics that provides better overall system performance than any netbook out there
* Higher resolution 1366 x 768 screen that allows you to see more and be more productive
* HDMI and monitor out port so you can connect to any monitor or even your LCD TV
* Same 3lb weight as most netbooks
* Stunning 6 hour battery life that is as good as a netbook
* Free upgrade to Windows 7 when it is released
* Larger and more usable keyboard than most netbooks -
Okay, I got mine. Okay, first step was to insert a spare 1gb stick of RAM, for 3GB total. First boot....82 processes running. Yeah, I know this is Vista, but come on, 82? That's a good 20-25 more than my Asus, which is running 66 with Firefox, iTunes, uTorrent, Skype, Digsby, Task Manager, and other whatnot going in the background. Acer, please shoot me.
I think I'm not even going to bother with optimization. Windows 7 RTM going on there NOW. -
I haven't rebooted in a week and I have fewer than that running on my desktop with Vista x64.
I ordered mine from J&R over the weekend, and chose the ground shipping. Mine isn't supposed to be here until next week
.
I went ahead and bought a 2X2GB DDR2-800 upgrade after discovering in this thread that it supports it. I'm very interested to hear how an HL2 and D3 test goes after an upgrade to dual channel. I bought it because I need something portable, but I purposefully waited for something that could run WoW a bit better than a GMA 950/Atom combo.
EDIT: I'd also like to hear the answer to Der_Malis other question, too - That's nice Which RAM are you using(speed, latency)?, along with the HL2, D3, and any other games that you might be inclined to load if you have them
-
That's X120, isn't it?
http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-x-series-hands-on/2254425/ -
From Pic 9 on the previous Engadget link:
Battery Life:
4 Cell Lithium-ion - up to 4 hours
6 Cell Lithium-ion - up to 9 hours
those last 2 cells must be huge
-
how much in us$?Can we order it?Do they ship to the US?
-
See post #1599

Windows 7 RTM installed sucsessfully, now I'm scrambling to find a serial key. MSDN AA better help me out here....
-
I just installed Windows7 RTM 32bit, build 7600. It was fairly painless, I extracted the ISO to a 4GB USB drive, shrunk the original Vista partition and the install went to the freshly formatted free space (62GB).
You can get Win7 Ultimate for a 90 day trial. Until the official upgrade arrives, it should do
No need for serials, just a Windows Live registration!
And yes, the famous Lady gaga clip plays fairly smooth in full screen mode
DD
-
Eehhh what means "fairly"?
100% CPU load and some frames skipping?
-
Wow, I sure wish talking to a rep meant something. Nice find though. <3 the 6 cell option.
Man, I really hope it comes out in the US soon... for a reasonable price... -
That's fair, actually. I like how that works...I only need it for about 50 days, until 7 launches, then I'll actually probably get a copy from a friend at Microsoft, if I don't want to wait for the upgrade.
-
Guys, from now on if you want to discuss Samsung X120 please use the thread in the Samsung forum:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=414017 -
Thanks for the link - but as others have mentioned if it comes with windows 7 home it can't possibly arrive before 22 October
Wish we could find one with XP in the UK somewhere.
But certainly we can wait till 7 comes. It'll be better and cleaner than vista upgrades to 7.
Cheers mate
-
Yep! I'd say it plays the 30 fps clip between 25 and 30 FPS, CPU is 100% most of the time. I seem to remember a slideshow like act on Vista. I'm going to pop back and check in a minute
-
I envy you..
-
I checked it on Vista, and its night and day!!!! On vista the system bogs down, and barely manages about 10fps.
I don't think I'm ever going to boot vista again.
Some more good news, on Windows7 the video driver has a TON more options, resolutions, refresh rates the whole lot. And the resolutions display on my plasma TV without any overscan crop
Really good. Only one small flaw, 1366p and many other resolution are listed as interlaced only
But since there is no ovescan, even slightly scaled 720p is perfectly fine for watchiing videos. My TV has a good scaler ( cheers Phil
).
Update: I seem to have lost HDMI audio on Win7, grrr. MPC HC rendering freezes up when i move the window or enter full screen on the TV. -
How is the battery life on Windows 7 compared to Vista, or even XP?
-
Rough estimate based on my usage on Windows 7 RC, at least 5 hours doing moderately CPU-intensive stuff. I haven't done any exact timing or anything. I would estimate maybe 30 minutes less than Vista, at least for now (maybe better once the ePower Management app is released for Windows 7, but I usually have 5+ Firefox tabs, and 4-5 other apps running at once.
-
I'll definitely be loading Windows 7 on mine when it gets here, then.
General question on Windows 7 - how is it for gaming? I don't mean just on this notebook, but compared to Vista x64 on all hardware? I'm grabbing it off of MSDN as we speak, and I'm tempted to upgrade my desktop if the performance is comparable or better. -
EVERYTHING is better in Windows 7 x64 than Vista x64. I say if an app/game ran on Vista x64 then it will run Windows 7 x64. Every driver I have tried for Vista x64 works on Windows x64.
For higher end systems like an i7 with 8GB you probably will not notice the difference between Vista and Win7 unless you're watching task manager. I upgraded my desktop anyway.
On notebooks, the difference between Windows 7 x64 and Vista x64 is night and day. Windows 7 run as well as XP, in my opinion, on the same hardware. It's that good. Even the pre-installed Vista Home Premium on this 1410 is sluggish (i'm sure the bloatware doesn't help) compared to Win7 x64. Don't think, just do. Win7 pwns. -
I have my 1410 now.
I checked the Windows Experience Index scores straight from the manufacturer
Processor: 3.5
Memory: 4.8
Graphics: 3.1
Gaming graphics: 3.5
Primary hard disk: 5.1
this seems in line with the guy who upgraded to 4 ram.
I have installed vista sp2. are any of the installed software worth keeping other than works and MS Office. Are there any other updates that are needed?
How do you do a recovery disk equivalent if there is no disc drive? -
check out my WEI rating...
I installed windows 7 ultimate 86x
everything else pretty much is the same. But my gaming experience is 4.9!! i Scanned it twice before i updated drivers and after.
Interesting....

Does anyone have any idea when the 1410 will be carried in US retail stores like Best Buy?
-
Sosorio, could you elaborate? I am considering the 1410 and the 3810T too. Thank you for your comments.
-
It is currently available at Micro Center stores. There are 22 of them in the U.S. Check their website.
If Best Buy ever has it, I wouldn't buy it from them. They have watered down versions of laptops made just for them. Of course, they don't TELL you they're watered down and don't have all the features of the real thing. Basically, they are just glamorous scam artists and should be called "Worst Buy" since they never have the best price on anything. -
I ordered a simple foam protective case from DealExtreme in preparation for my 1410. I'll let you know how it works out.
P.S. I'll be pretty upset if it arrives from China before my laptop does from the USA... -
Don't forget that the maximum score in Vista is 5.9 whereas in 7, it is 7.9. So your score really didn't go up.
-
Running Win 7 RTM 64bit on mine. 3gb ram and 128gb ssd drive. Stable and fast. No complaints. Next step. Ordering the 5600mah battery. Reusing the sleeve that came with my 1000he. Love this little machine.
Got too many laptops lol.
Macbook unibody
Acer 1410
Umid Mbook M1. Smallest z520 with a keyboard. -
Are you in the U.S/Canada and got the unit with the smaller battery? Where will you order the larger 5600mah battery as I believe its only available in Europe?
-
I'm in Canada and I found an Australian site that carries the battery. About $100 shipped. Will attempt to order tomorrow.
-
Not as expensive as I thought ordering from that far. Still, I hope the larger battery can be available here as well, please Acer?
