Hope at this comment helps you

OK, thats the same red, but its more painted as "wooden" red... Dunno the real English word for that -
Sorry to bother you again, but i have another question
Did you get such a nice case like some far eastern guys did? (Post 93 at http://www.benyouhui.com/viewthread.php?tid=992658&extra=&page=10) -

That was made in daylight and without a flash.
Hope that helps -
I'll probably go for the Ruby Red one too - if the 1810tz gets finally released in Austria.(22nd of October? Who knows!)

1810Tz owners, how is the max battery life sofar?
-

I'm very sad that Windows7 uses more power

Looks like I was premature regarding the battery usage. Guess battery bar was still adjusting. It's been 3 hours of continuous usage along with 20min of 720p playback and I'm now showing 4:23 left. So it's actually very close to 8 hours with this 5600mah battery. Love it!
-
-
The 5600mAh weighs 323 grams. My guestimate is the 440mAh will be 270 grams. -
BTW, the same digital scale shows the total 1410 weight with the battery at 3 lbs 3 oz. This equates to 1,445.83 grams. My scale says it is accurate to 0.5 oz (this is WITH the NuShield on, that must weigh 1/2 oz max). -
I don't have a scale to measure the batteries. However holding the 2 batteries in each hand there's a noticeable weight difference.

Uhm I can buy a 3810T-944G32N (su9400) for 600 euro. I don't really care about 13,3 or 11,6 inch. Should I wait for the 1810tz? I'm a bit suspicious, is the 3810t going to be updated too, like the 1810t?
-
1810TZ will be cheaper but you need to wait, probably 5 weeks at least.
-
-
I measured 1118 grams. -
What battery-time is reachable when I let the 1810T powered on, recording via microphone, but display powered off all the time? (wLan off, too!)
are 12 hours reachable?
So how many watt is used only for the Display min. and max. ?
sorry for bad english, i'm german... -
Just got mine from UPS! I'm excited.
What tweaks should I do first? I'm checking out the thread right now. -
-
Acer ScreenSaver etc?
Carbonite Online Backup Setup
eSobi v2
GridVista
MyWinLocker
Orion
Is that it? -
I did not even turn the 1410 on before (i) removing the hard drive and replacing it with an ssd with a clean install of Win7 (RC build 7100) and (ii) adding 2x2 megs of 2gb 800Mhz ram.

I'm returning my 1410. I just can't get the freezes to stop. Hopefully the one I get in exchange is better. :/

The NuShield doesn't noticeably decrease the brightness and colors seem about the same with it on. Glare is definitely lessened although it is not totally NON glare like an Asus 1000HE screen. I have only tried it one outside since I put the shield on but once I turned up the brightness a bit I could read the screen in almost direct sunlight. When the screen was turned almost all the way down (I usually keep the screen on about 30% or less when on battery) I had a hard time seeing the display.
NuShield definitely helps outside and I am happy to have it on. If you do decide to get one I suggest getting TWO since you may have some problems with sizing. I got 2 but I haven't had the guts to put it on the 2nd one yet. This time I may take an razor blade and a ruler to the screen rather than trying to use scissors. I guess I just got too eager.
Another thing to know is that it is tough to get the screen on without a few minor bubbles. Pulling the screen up generally fixes this but do notes that the 1410 screen guard has adhesive on the back. This is because of the way the 1410 screen is designed. SO you may have to pull it up a few times to get the bubbles out. Because of this I recommend keeping the pink side on until you get ALL the bubbles out and you are 100% satisfied.
If you do lift up or cut the sides it may affect the adhesive which is one reason I am going to try again with the 2nd shield. Where I cut the edges I have an area that doesn't quite stick and you can just see the outline. With the screen on it it hard to see these edges but when windows is booting or if you have a solid background you will likely see the cut edges.
Would I recommend this screen? Yes? Does it help outside? Yes? Does it noticeably decrease brightness and dull colors? No. Just be careful with sizing. -
I see the UL20a with the u3500 selling for $549 and the Celeron probably $499.
I don't see how Asus can price the UL20a anymore than $100 vs the 1410 with the exact components.
Seeing how manuf. been pricing the 11.6" cheaper than their 13" counterpart, thats what I'm guessing. -
That's nice pricing I must say...
Here in Sweden the Asus UL30A with the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor goes for 7300 SEK (730€while the 1810TZ goes for 6000 (600€
so it's quite the difference. As well as the fact that the UL30A isn't even available here yet while the 1810TZ is.

Read this site for additional tips:

I've yet to understand what's happening behind the scenes in Vista to save battery life. So far I've managed to remove ePower management and yet get the same power consumption by manually tweaking. There are still weird things going on sometimes. Sometimes when it comes out of standby, power consumption is higher and then I have to switch to an other power scheme and back to see it drop again. -
Seems like US will get their 1810T and 1810TZ.

@ the hungarian collegues: how much did you pay for yours again?? -
-
I've noticed it again, for the third time.
Including a previous posting within this nbr thread.
S tandard memory capacity 2048MB
Maximum support memory 8192MB
Can 8GB be installed and used on the 1810TZ?
Link to Asian vendor specs.

Many thanks for your list of bloatware.. Acer ScreenSaver, Carbonite Online Backup Setup, eSobi v2, GridVista MyWinLocker, Orion.
Almost impossible for an Acer beginner to know.
Should we become pro-active by accumulating a list of companies that use this marketing strategy, like McAfee and Symantec?
And then boycott. -
@der_mali
Will it be more powersaving, when i record the mp3's from microphone to a SD-Card instead to the HD?
I think, i will install windows 7 professional on the 1810T and will try out your timeline tweak-Thread
actually in the web are some discussions about the bad battery-life-time using windows 7... i will try out which drivers solve this problem... -
Someone mentioned that a tool reported 8GB support on 1410(was it skyhawk21?) But that might just be a generic info from a built in table that the program uses when detecting gm45/gs45 chipset. If I had a 4GB module lying around I would test it, but 2GB is the maximum size I have. -
Unfortunately 4GB SODIMM is hugely expensive
Here it's like $400++ (for a set of two), eeek

Yes 8GB can be installed and used in the 1810TZ but as AcerTimelineHunter pointed out the price of the memory could easily match or surpass the price of the notebook. The prices are similar here in Canada at $314.99 (G.Skill) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=43894&vpn=F2-6400CL6D-8GBSQ&manufacture=Others - $479.99 (Corsair) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=37073&vpn=VS8GSDSKIT800D2&manufacture=Corsair as well while the price for 8GB of DDR3-1066 memory is $949.99 (Corsair again) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=36699&vpn=CM3X8GSDKIT1066&manufacture=Corsair, more than twice the cost of the notebook.
For the time being, doing such an upgrade is cost prohibitive although I plan to go through with it once I get my own 1810TZ (or the Travelmate 8171 when it comes out (the 8371, 8471, and 8571 are already available in certain countries) and yes I am that insane)

This might be a nice solution to add bluetooth to the 1410 if it gets released and has proper Win7 drivers.
