Little search, after der mali's guidance, result in a find of this webpage. Should do the trick. Thanks.

Is it installable software or a web browser application?
If it's browser based, it's probably detecting your computer as Win7 and/or your IE version as incompatible. One option is to change the browser user agent string (IE or Firefox). Instructions here: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/799/.
If it's installable software, you might be able to run the installer in compatibility mode for XP. Just an idea. -
It is software. I could get it to work under compatibility mode and it seemed to work flawless. When exam time comes though and I only have 3 hours to finish I do not want a possibility of a crash in the back of my head. If it crashes in Win 7, tech will tell me its my problem because it is not supported, if it crashes in XP, it is their problem. Ha, basically I want to cover my butt.
-
I am also using this case and it is perfect.
-
It's also possible to install XP in IDE mode and install AHCI drivers later(or not at all). That way you don't need a modified XP version.
-
OK, then I think that I will buy this case too.
But I have another question. In how far suffers the battery life of the notebook if there is a sd-card permanently plugged in the internal sd-slot? -
Can someone help me with the BCM2046, I have the module and the cable that came with it, I can't figure out where to plug it into, I see where the module itself goes, but the cable doesnt fit anything i can find. The cable is the standard 8 pin bluetooth cable, and I can't find the port for it.
-
I was under the impression that doesn't work. It certainly is not as simple changing the BIOS and restarting.
-
Interesting. Wonder if the USB lines are active on it...
Cheers,
Kermee -
I was able to get it to work. I change to BIOS settings, installed xp, installed driver, and then switched back the BIOS settings. Windows 7 wouldn't work until I changed the BIOS settings back.
-
I'm using this case and it fits it very well.
-
It should work. I don't want to have more work than necessary with creating recovery DVDs and stuff, else I would try it myself right now. I've got an XP USB stick ready from my Aspire One. There are instructions out there to install AHCI drivers in XP after installation and switching it in BIOS before the next boot and it will fire up in AHCI mode then.
Edit:
Im too slow at writing. Practice has proven it
Im very interested in battery life measurements running XP. Please report back how much battery life you get
Try setting the Wifi driver to max powersavings and check if the Intel graphics driver provides similar settings as the Vista/Win7 driver.
-
Umm, yes, it is.
-
FWIW...
I just did a UNR dual boot on a Acer Apsire AS1400 with MS Shista on it. It worked great on the USB but after installing, UNR would hang during boot. It turned out that the SATA driver in the BIOS was set to AHCI and my UNR install didn't like it. I switched the SATA setting in the BOIS to IDE and all was good...until my wife went to use Shista. It didn't like the IDE setting. I re-installed Shista with the SATA BIOS set to IDE and all is good.Attached Files:

BTW. Ubuntu Remix is great on this machine. You can use a USB to try it out without installing it. If you like it, you can install it from the USB. It's easy to install and works perfectly right out of the box. My only complaint is that is seems to use more power than vista did, but it runs way faster so...

I have been looking all over the laptop, and I can't find a single 8 pin port for the bluetooth on my 1410, can any one help me?
-
So do I. It would be nice to have at least one more usb port on the notebook. I'm more interested in finding out if there are tinned pads on the motherboard for where an extra powered SATA connector may go. If so, then eSATA mod here I come!
Can anyone who has dismantled either the 1410, 1810T or 1810TZ please report whether there are active USB lines and tinned pads where a powered SATA connector can go? I've looked over both the dismantling here: http://yongsub.textcube.com/33 and here: http://74.125.115.132/translate_c?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&u=http://www.benyouhui.com/thread-994585-1-1.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbenyouhui%2B1810tz%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Dual Core Asus UL20 for US$600 Has SU7300, 250GB HDD, and 2GB ram.
-
Hopefully the 1810tz will be a little cheaper.
-
Well and a little smaller quite honestly. Even with the "promised" 33% extra performance boost of the Asus HW/SW (and I just got rid of my 1000HE so I like ASUS) I prefer a slightly smaller size at 11.6" rather than 12.1". I also don't like the look of the aluminum for some reason and REALLY like the blue of the ASUS. I also wonder about the keyboard, etc. Battery life promises up to 12 hours with some of the Asus UL models but I also wonder if the 12.1" will have battery life that long.
6 Cell UL20a is 296mm x 210mm x 30.9mm (11.65 x 8.27 x 1.22 inches)
Acer1410 is 285m x 204mm x 22.1/30 mm (11.22 x 8.03 x 0.87/1.18 inches)
This is enough of a difference that I don't think the UL20a will not fit in my CaseLogic bag. In some cases mm's do matter and to me I really think that 12.1" is just too big but I would have to see one to really know. Thoughts? -
Well, I've never tried it myself because I know how to press F6 when installing, but there are an awful lot of guides online on how to make the switch after installing Windows XP and the process they all mention is far more difficult / complicated than installing drivers, rebooting and changing the BIOS. link link link
-
I thought you needed a floppy for f6. I followed this guide, it was pretty simple.
-
While I'd have liked the smaller size, but Asus does have
1) 2 year warranty vs. acer's 1 year
2) Longer battery life claim (even if its 12 hrs, it has be longer than the 1810tz's claimed 8 hr, probably)
3) Better processor (not by much, but with 1 extra MB of cache and virtualization built-in)
going for it.
Given that the 1810tz will be more expensive than the $ 450 of the 1410, the price difference isn't much.
Also, one can get the black color of the Ul20, if one doesn't like the aluminum color.
So I'm leaning towards the ul20 now (if, however, the 1810tz was already in the U.S. market, I'd have already bought it, so Acer is probably losing me as a customer for their delay I guess)...
Thanks for posting the UL20 link, Jayayess1190: this wait is really proving to be hard on me! -
The UL20 wins with the 12hr claimed battery life.
-
I will let you know. I mainly use Google Docs though, so my results may not be indicative to the normal. Thank you for your help, you saved me a headache.
-
I'm not running XP on the 1410. I'm using Ubuntu and will upgrade the Vista to Windows 7 later. I never even knew about the AHCI vs IDE issue until a couple of days ago. Beginners luck I guess (with help from google).
-
Thats awesome.
So my hunch earlier in the thread was right.
I guessed $549 for UL20A with the SU3500.
So SU7300 for $599 is right on.
I think I'll put my 1410 on Ebay and worst case scenario, I'll get what I paid for it.(I paid $376 with the cash back).
I will probably end up paying ~$549 for the UL20 with cash back and such.
To me its worth it.
- Its more professionally looking(I'm a sucker for brushed aluminum).
- Of course better CPU
- I don't like the 1410 keyboard.
- Longer battery life.
I'd rather paid the premium to get exactly what I want. -
The 1410 goes to the wife (the original intent all along, but I like it way more than I expected) and I'll be selling my Vostro 1400. UL20A, here I come!
Did they really claim 12 hours of battery life? Pinch me. -
I don't want to get TOO far off topic but considering that there is no UL20A thread on the Asus board (odd) here is a URL with more info on the UL20/30A as well as a review of the UL30A: http://www.netbooklive.net/asus-ul20a-and-ul30a-powerful-culv-netbook-competitors-747/. This site states that the UL30A was rated at 9 hours but got closer to 6 (surprising) when under full load. The 12 hour claim was from the general press release for this line. BTW, I am liking the Black version much more than the gray one although I REALLY do like the 1410 and even like the keyboard. Now I am curious when the UL20A will come out because it may hit the states well before the dual-core 1810tz but we will have to see (don't you love competition?).
-
On other quick note is that the UL30A seems to have 2 batteries available on Amazon. The "X2" promises 9 hours and is out of stock while the "X3" promises 11 hours and costs $50 more. Man 11 hours would be nice. Who wants to start a UL20A thread on the Asus forum?
-
There is one already.
-
On my 1410 the status lights don't work at all : the HD activity light , num lock and the caps lock lights.
Anybody that pulled their 1410 apart - can you tell me if these lights use a plug or are the wires sodered? -
Does the VGA port work?
There is a separate PCB that contains the leds and VGA port, look here:

The Fn + Brightness keys don't work in XP, it looks like the driver is missing some reg keys. Has anyone found a way around this?
If someone with vista could export the reg keys i might be able to find the problem. i believe it is in HKLM > software > quanta or something similar, i don't have access to the laptop now. -
Other timeline users reported the same. There are no entries for brightness in Quanta\LManager\Settings\Buttons
-
Is it normal that this notebook begans to rattle when the fan begins to run?
-
I noticed this as well. Can the vista button entries be added on XP?
-
Hey, is there bluetooth in 1810Tz, there is quick buttons for bt and led in the front of machine, but I cant get that bt on.
-
any reports about battery life on 1810tz?
i'm just about to buy it and need final confirmation
-
What I mean is: There are no entries in Vista, either
Was it advertised to have bluetooth?
All devices have that switch but not all have the module inside.
Open hardware manager and activate the switch. If nothing happens your device is without module. -
Hello Everyone!
I just got my 1810TZ today and I am very happy with it!
2 Questions -
First - Is there any way I can add HSDPA (WWAN) to it internally ? If yes what should I purchase and how to do it? Has anyone done it before?
Second - How much ram does it support? Will there be any point adding more than 4gb ?
Thanks
GaD! -
Adding more than 4gb of ram is probably pretty useless and very expensive.
-
So I have some additional commentary on the NuShield DayVue on the 1410. I am sitting here today in direct sunlight (well with the sun shining directly through a window onto the screen) and everything is still readable at about 30% brightness (on battery). I can still see some glare but the text and screen is definitely still usable. One thing NOT to expect with this shield is for it to turn a glossy screen into a matte screen. You will still get reflections and will still have glare but you CAN read this display outside or with the sun actually hitting the screen. The covering just seems to absorb or redirect the sunlight so that the screen is usable. I definitely couldn't do this before I put the shield on.
I know that a few other folks have ordered this screen so I have 2 questions:
1) Did your shield actually fit correctly out of the box?
2) What do you think of the "glare reduction" in sunlight and outside -
Just to let you guys know, I'm posting from a 1.6GHz 1810t right now
-
Thanks for the update! This will probably be my next purchase in the near future. Already spent too much on it for the extra 5600mah battery and 128gb SSD drive
-
before getting one, i recall you mentioned a hardware mod would be necessary, was it?
did you post a description somewhere? -
200mhz overclock? nice
-
Yep. I had to lift the outer leg(looking from the clock generator) of R146 and connect this "flying" leg to the outer contact of R147.(Setting pin11 TME strap status from high to low) SetFSB does the rest.
This will basically be the only advice I will give. I won't post photos or anything. The reason is simple. This is an advanced MOD only people who are familiar with really tiny SMD soldering should attempt. I posted an instruction how to unlock the Aspire One AOA1x0 series and someone managed to fry his board while trying. Its not worth to throw $450 in the trash just for trying to get a few more MHz imo.
For people who are in the know, this short advice is enough to do it themselves
Edit:
Did someone say su3500 can't do multitasking? I'm running Orthos StressCPU in the background while surfing right now. Pretty responsive if you ask me
Thanks to prikolchik for creating a photo guide:

I'd like to gather some more data about 1410 / 1810t / 1810TZ flash capabilities.
Please try to play Poker Face in HD and High Performance mode and post if it played 100% smooth or not. Also list your OS.
Thanks in advance.
@Der_Mali, can you test it on your 1.6Ghz SU3500?
Ps. reason I choose Poker Face is because it's the heaviest I know. -
@Phil
It runs smooth at 1580MHz. 1.6GHz is not stable enough, 0.9V Vcore is too low at that speed.
