So surprised to see this new model on store shelves in Taiwan.
Seems to be the same body as the 1810T with a slower 1.2 processor.
I've got printed glossy literature from Acer saying the processor is
Intel's 1.2 GHz Celeron with Windows Home Basic.
Funny thing... the AO751h model is no longer listed in the literature.

This configuration and marketing strategy could easily be different
from 1410s to be offered elsewhere.

BTW, all computers are very expensive here.
like 25% to 35% more than in the US.
The Taiwan price is 22,600NT which is $690 US.

Link is to a dealer's page with a photo and specs.
    LINK
Use " Google Translate" to translate, if you like.

BTW. There was an Acer a few years ago with the same 1410 model number.
So be sure to use the "722G25N" for web searches.

So I did some research and checked if my normal computer usage would profit by a dual core and I came to the conclusion that more MHz and a newer technology the SU3500 represents would suit my needs better than a slower clocked and older tech dual Celeron.
My main uses for an ultra portable are surfing the web, office stuff and light gaming. Games till 2006 like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 e.g. aren't multi core capable and later games aren't playable because of the 4500MHD anyway. Surfing the web is no challange neither is office stuff. For heavy processing I would use my big laptop anyway.

So even if one 1810t model had a dual core(below su9400) I would take the su3500 version.

The first thing I will do is wipe the HDD clean and install XP. I'd rather sacrifice some battery life than punishing the little device with Vista(I have got it on my big laptop). When Acer's Win7 upgrade is available I will configure a dual boot of XP and Win7.

I can't wait to see the performance of a proper tweaked XP with EWF and all on that little beast :D

The only down side I see to the SU3500 is that it can't play Youtube HD and other heavy flash. For the rest it's perfect for me.

Let's see how that planned Broadcom flash acceleration turns out. I suppose that the 1810t has got a second mini-PCIe slot for 3G so adding the accelerator should work, I suppose.

I don't mind. Single platter = quiet and slightly lower power consumption.

I do mind blue, which means I will have to sell it as soon as black is available.

Some important aspects for me besides the usual stuff is heat generation on the keyboard and bottom part, fan loudness and the actual fan management(does it run all the time, at what speed, etc.). I'd also like to know, if the second mini-PCIe connector is populated(if it doesn't void the warranty when opening the cover, that is).

    And if you've got a copy of half-life 2 lying around :D

Every other stuff I'm interested in requires some hacking, like checking if TME is enabled and if Smartfan works http://smartfan.aspireone.com.ua/2009/06/21/smart-fan-116 If it is possible to disable Speedstep and change Vcore through software. So I don't think this fits in a review.

Ok good to know. Fan noise and heat are also important to me.

I'll try to do the other stuff as well. Besides opening it up probably.

Are you sure? I could have sworn my Vaio TZ with its 1.06ghz Core 2 Duo U7500 and GMA 950 graphics played Youtube HD fine. Its been collecting dust ever since I got my desktop. I installed Windows 7 on the TZ recently and noticed it seems quite slow, maybe I've been spoiled by my desktop?

It would be very strange if this Acer could not handle HD video due to its HDMI port.

I'm excited for your review, do you have any ultraportables or netbooks which you will compare this Acer to?

Your sig says $499, are you sure that is the official price, is that the price in the U.S?

Thing is, many clips on Youtube are labeled as HD but are not really HD.

This clip is true 720p (after pressing HD) and several SU3500 users confirmed to me it can't play it 100% smooth.

My Pentium M 1.6Ghz can not play it smooth either.

Well only in my mind because I had a lot of ultraportables in the past, but not at the moment.

I will be comparing with Notebookjournal scores for other netbooks and ultraportables though.

There is an other thread about an 1410 with su3500 for $499 in the US and Canada.
The Sig should be 499€ in EU instead.

Just an estimate. But it might be $549 or something like that.

I'll try to make it more accurate soon.

Will try to squeeze that in. Shouldn't be any problem though. SU3500 is surely powerful enough.

3810t is made by Inventec AFAIK, 1810t is made by Quanta, the same manufacturer who made the Aspire One A1x0 series Smartfan was written for. Maybe they use other components. It is also possible, that it is another port on the 3810, the port can be changed in the options.ini file.

Does Smartfan display anything other than this error message? Does it show the CPU temperature?

I am not sure what Acer did with the 1810, but I started a thread about the 1410.

That is going to MSRP at $499 and has SU3500 CPU, HDMI, 11" Screen and will be available mid august.

I dunno, maybe it's a Vista problem. On my Notebook with Vista installed it doesn't work either. In the embedded controller settings in hardware manager it doesn't show a driver installed, it says it doesn't need a driver to function. On my netbook with XP it shows acpiec.sys.

If someone has XP on his/her Timeline he/she could try it.

Argghh... Why did someone have to mention a Dual Core option? I was ready to bite. FYI, the Acer 1410 is now showing up on the Acer US site with the same specs someone previously posted.

    http://us.acer.com/acer/productv.do...&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=1346651341#wrAjaxHistory=1

    or try this

    http://us.acer.com/acer/seu30e.do?k...7&ctx2.c2att1=25&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=1863424040

You could also just go to Notebook products. I am VERY psyched. Looks like SU3500 as well... WHY did I have to find out about the dual core?

    Jealousy.

Page shows an SU4100, 4500, and 4700. Apparently these are Pentiums, only difference from a SU9400 is 1mb less l2 cache, and a .1 change in clockspeed. How drastic are these changes? If this ever comes to the US, I want to sell my 3810 and get this, as long as performance compared to a SU9400 is still good.

Edit: Proof this is coming to the US?

The lowest price so far listed online for the AS1410-8414 is $465.02 at OfficeNation ( http://www.officenation.com/webapp/ofdetails.asp?item=BU2430&langId=en-us&storeId=str02) and they show availability in 1-2 weeks. CDW also has this model and the other colors listed for $474.99 with no availability date.

None of the sites list specs so that will have to remain a mystery but I will NOT buy this unless it is a SU3500. No Celeron for me. If the 1410 is a Celeron without HDMI I will wait for the Samnsung N510 (and posibly a 10 inch NVidia from Samsung) or wait and see what Dell comes up with. BTW, does anyone have a good comparison of the Celeron 723 vs the SU3500 and what the true differences are?

I am also curious about battery life. I wonder if the 1410 in the US has a smaller 6 cell.

can the site be trusted as they quote the 1410T on the 1810T product overview section ?

Here from the mentioned page .....

    Features

    Green
Aspire 1410, or whether you go out in the office can be a real power, than a typical laptop's 40 percent more power.

    Yan's design, excellent use of
Aspire 1410 only 1.35 kg, makes it easy for you to carry no burden. Acer duckweed built full-size keyboard, easy to use and comfortable, the bottom of the multi-point touch version, even if the mouse can not easily be narrowed to enlarge picture.

    and also ..

Strong driving force for eight hours
A full, strong from morning to night. Aspire 1810T uses ultra-low voltage processor, consume less energy, the release of your plug.

all taken from the same page..

based on the basic Chinese QA I would not put my hope's up too high :)

Espacially as they quote the "dual Core" only in connection with some 1810TZ.. which no one has heard of..

Intel ® Centrino ® processor technology:
    Intel ® Core ™ 2 single-core processor SU3500 (3MB secondary cache, 1.40 GHz, 800 MHz front side bus, 5.50 W), supporting Intel ® 64 architecture (for AS1810T)
    Intel ® Pentium ® mobile processor SU4100 (2MB secondary cache, 1.30 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 10 W), supporting Intel ® 64 architecture (for AS1810TZ)
Mobile Intel ® GS45 Express Chipsets
Intel ® Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (dual-channel four-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N) Wi-Fi Certified ® network link, the realization of MIMO technology, support for Acer SignalUp ™ / Nplify ™ wireless technology or
Intel ® Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/b/g /) Wi-Fi Certified ® network link, the realization of MIMO technology, and Acer SignalUp ™ support Nplify ™ wireless technology

and following the rest of the Timeline's the "TZ" is always the weakest ... now here its the Strongest ... strange strange... but we shall see ;)

    Yes.

Here is the reason why this and the 1410 have DDR2. Expect a DDR3 model in the future?

And question. The 1810T is a Timeline model, but the 1410 is not a Timeline. Why? I see here in Asia, the 1410 is basically an Aspire One 751, while in the US it looks like an 1810.

That is a good question... Did they gimp the battery in the 1410? The Acer site doesn't list a mAh number for the battery.

Still, this thing looks sweet, gigabit ethernet, more pixels than most the 10" netbooks, better processor. That fixes all the things I don't like about my Samsung N120.

I just checked out the office nation link. That is a great price!

I cannot find any details on the battery, but Acer only stated 6hrs battery life, not 8hrs+ that they are doing with the timeline series on a whole which makes you wonder where this notebook will fit in under the Timeline marketing.

I honestly would not change a thing in this notebook. Adequate amount of USB, HDMI, battery life, weight. Maybe a combo eSata port would make it perfect.
