    Oh that's nice :)
Check Timeline Tweaks for pictures of a disassembled 1410.

Looks nice but it didn't diffrentiate from the 1410 much.
Smaller battery, still no BT and the buttons are on the side.
    I'll pass.

Does anyone know of a way to have lower resolutions boot centered instead of stretched? My old laptop had a bios function, but I can't seem to find something similar on the 1410. I know it's a minor nitpick, but the blurriness bugs me for those few seconds after booting up.

Thanks for the tip, but I can't see anything in the logs.

Oh, well I'l wait for the official Win7 upgrade disc, and see if it will solve the problem.

Hi there, it's funny that I came across this thread today and I have an answer to the above. Please forgive me if someone has answered this already since I'm only on page 167 of the thread... still reading through bits of it!

The webcam has A BLOODY PROTECTIVE PLASTIC FILM OVER THE TOP OF IT!! I was severely disappointed with the quality when I got this netbook because otherwise the machine is tip top.

Try and see if you can peel it off... I only noticed when I thought maybe it was dirty. Gave it a wipe and it still looked uneven in the glare of a light. Then realised it was a protective film... Once peels off video is crisp and clear. More than adequate for Skype or MSN.

Again, sorry if someone else already answered.

I'm in the UK and bought this in the US last week. I love it, it's perfect.

    Observations about it:

Fan noise... actually, a little disappointed that it's so noticeable. I'll have to read further into the thread to see if anyone has successfully quietened it.

Vista is a bit of a hog, but with a majority of the pre-installed stuff uninstalled, it runs pretty well. I'm looking forward to upgrading to Windows 7, can't be arsed with the RC at the moment.

My only outstanding thing is a get a case that fits this thing nice and snuggly. Maybe an SSD drive too... if it's not too expensive... *ahem*

So I reinstalled 7, no problems. Only booted a couple of times on default Win7 drivers. Then I installed some of the drivers from the tweak thread for the intel chipset/hdmi audio fixes and I just got my first blue screen. I did however, only boot a couple of times on default drivers, and the problem doesn't occur every time.

Is it possible for my blue screen problems to be caused by memory/hardware if my computer will eventually start and work with no problems and recognize all 4 GB of RAM?

    Hi,

Did anyone success running Photoshop CS4 over the AS1810T (SU3100) ??

I can say for the photographers that CS2, LightRoom 2.5 and Capture One 4.8 are working ...
Also BookSmart 2.0.2 from Blurb and Fotolibro 3.3 (from FotoPrix)

    Cheers

What are you running - RC or RTM? I'm running Win7 RC, no problems, perfectly stable, with all newest drivers (as far as I know) and 4GB RAM. If it only happens periodically, it's unlikely I think that your RAM is causing it. Unless the problem is in the first stick, I doubt you're going to hit the error point just booting up Windows, as it won't come close to filling the full 2GB. Did you run memtest86 or any similar diagnostics to confirm it's not your hardware?

I know two more people from this board who had the same problem(Cusem, Dasfool). Take out one RAM module and check if the problem persists. If it does, use the other slot. If it's still there, do the same with the other module. I suppose that it might be a faulty RAM slot.

Sorry, I must correct my earlier statement about CS4 running fine in 1810: I have 1810TZ, i.e. double core machine, not a single core one. I do not know if this is a critical factor or not.

For those who are searching for a nice fitting sleeve for the 1810T/1410:
It seems, that the most sleeves for netbooks up to 10,2" fit.
I've tested the following three different sleeves:
    Belkin F8N140 10,2"
    Dismaq qSleeve 12"
Hama Notebook-Cover "Comfort" 8,9"-10,2" (which i have in use now, because it has an extra pocket)
All fit perfectly without any force.

With this program the double core must help a lot, IMO. The CS4 (as other retouch programs) are optimized to use as many cores you have. In fact, I did some test in my PC changing the afinity of this process (selecting to use 1 core or 2 cores for this program), and I've found an increase in performance aprox. 50% (not the double but quite faster). Even considering the SU4100 have less speed and less cache I expect to have an increase in performance of at least the 30% for double core optimized programs (my rought estimation).

With the CS4 will help a lot too installing the 64bit version of this program in a 64bit Operating system. I have the CS4 64 bit running in W7 64bit in my PC (4 cores) and is much more quick than the verions of 32 bits.

I am using Capture NX (for Nikon). This program is much more power consuming than CS4. Have anybody checked it in a 1810T SU3500 or SU4100 ?

I'm waiting for a 1810T SU4100. I will buy it asap are available in Spain :)

If you are still looking for a netbook sleeve, try this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Netbook-Sleeve-Bag-for-Gateway-11-6-LT3103u-LT3114u_W0QQitemZ350248846554QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item518c7544da&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I have it and it works fine and has an extra pocket. I said fine because this is my first netbook and netbook case; I have a Gateway P-7805U.

Later I will upgrade to 2x2GB but am not sure if I should wait for the release of Win7 or not. Is it worth it to upgrade now? These are the ones I was thinking of getting:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251

I do notice that it does get really hot in the bottom center and bottom right. Does anyone know how to reduce the heat or is this normal.

Fan noise for me is not noticeable, even on a quiet night. That or I have bad hearing. If I pay attention to the fan I can hear it, but its not an annoying sound and I don't notice the scratching effect.

I use the iHome IHM77 portable pod speakers with USB rechargeable battery built in. They work great and I used it for other applications like on my iphone.

The "N" button was jammed or stuck at one point until I pressed hard on it and heard a snap and it worked fine again. I don't know what the cause of this was?

I removed all but the serial number sticker from the netbook, even the Windows serial number sticker. It was starting to peel off already so I just decided to take it completely off and store with with my other Vista CD.

I been using the netbook everyday. Some days I would leave it on all day or leave it on sleep. I don't know if it is consider rough handling but I do move it around often while its on, using one hand or even holding it by the screen. Everything seems find still. Just testing the quality I guess.

Sometimes when I am using Yahoo Messenger while doing voice and video chat, Yahoo crashes.

Haven't ran any test or benchmark since everyone else is doing it. I just use it and abuse it. Plus I have a desktop for that and I'm done with benchmark unless I build another tower. Don't get me wrong, I do want it to perform right and the best it can. From what I've seen read on here it seems to be performing fine. Its a netbook and I'm not going to expect it to preform like my desktop. However one day I know we will get to that stage where a lot of power can be packed into a small unit like a netbook and cost just as low. Of course by then we well have more powerful desktop components too.

Oh, and the film over the webcam was annoying until someone mentioned it on here.

Also while the lid is open around 90 degree and above, the corner right of the keypad does not sit flush with the surface. So it will wobble if you push down at the right corner of the keypad. Not sure if anyone else has this problem or how it could be fix. Seems like the chaise is semi tweak.?

    Thanks

Actually, your numbers don't match up with the US offerings so I could be wrong.

    The US offerings are:

    AS1410-8413 = Blue
    AS1410-8804 = Black
    AS1410-8914 = Red

Everything else about them is the same.

Here is a link to Acer's US AS1410 configuration page.

    Canadian offerings they are:
AS1410-8807 = Black (might be specific to BestBuy in Canada)
    AS1410-8837 = Black

    Both have 3GB/250HD
Just Google those 2 model numbers to compare the specs in detail.

The BT pins number is 5 on 1410, the one in your link is 4.

I installed this one and it works ok - http://cgi.ebay.com/Acer-4520-5920-...in_0?hash=item27abccb4be&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I did not put the BT module into the existing BT compartment, though. The one I bought is too large to fit in. Function wise, it works fine. BT switch work with it.

    I'm running RTM.

Okay, so I did the memtest. After a while, it said it had done 1 pass and found 0 errors. I also did a clean install fo Win7... again... and this time didn't install any sort of drivers so that it can't be a driver thing unless the Win7 drivers are doing it. Is it possibly a harddrive issue? What's a tool I can use to run a diagnostic on my entire machine for hardware/driver issues?

I'm still getting the same errors. Other than returning it, what are my options? What other problem could it be?

I just did 1 stick at a time, once in each slot. Booted up 1 or 2 times from off, no blue screens. Like I said, it doesn't happen every time, and memtest did come up negative.

    Anything else I can do?

I noticed some metallic foil between both RAM modules and the motherboard? Does that matter? I didn't put it there and I think it's supposed to be there, but I pushed it down so that it wouldn't touch the RAM and my problem seems to have stopped? Can't be sure though because the blue screens are pretty random.

Hi, I'm an Acer 1410 Newbie, I'm getting the black model delivered from jr.com on Monday.

What are some of the things I should do/check once I get it ? sort of like a getting started guide.

for example, cleaning up vista, fan settings, drivers/bios updates

waiting to here from some of the pro's out there

Here are some suggestions accumulated mostly from this forum.
Wish I could give credit to where due.
Still waiting for the 1810TZ, so have not tried anything!

    Err... I forgot about the Acer AS1410 / 1810t / 1810tz Tweaks Thread.
    Explore here first!

    Streamline the Acer AS1410 & 1810t
    Remove... (posted by chipotleattack)
    all the crappy games
    Acer ScreenSaver etc?
    Carbonite Online Backup Setup
    eSobi v2
    GridVista
    MyWinLocker
    Orion
McAfee (replace it with free AVG)

First thing.. go to the MS site and download Vista SP2.
Once installed, use Windows update and download the latest patches.

Next, update the drivers found at the AS1410 Tweaks Thread.

Then, remove all of Acer's little "extras", and software.
    Do not load Quicktime -
And despite requesting do-not-install Apple’s auto-updater, it does install and sucks CPU - Get a superior player with minimal overhead - VLC.

Do the same for Adobe products as well, if already loaded, kill the process in task manager, remove the updater via programs in control panel, then kill it again in startup in msconfig. Adobe is one of the worst companies for loading up your startup config, most of it entirely unnecessary.

Update the Synaptics touch pad driver.

Follow thru at this VistaTuneUp site for even more important tips.

It's hard to tell without seing the device in person. How would you describe the intensity of the vibration? The HDD does cause a slight vibration but it's barely noticeable.

With my 1810T it's definitely the second SODIMM sloth.

I would get BSODs a lot with 2x2GB DDR2 800mhz 5-5-5-15 GEIL SODIMMs and everything would work great with the stock Samsung SODIMM in sloth 1.
After Der Mali's tip I tried using the Samsung SODIMM in sloth 2 and indeed I would get BSODs again.

At this point I'm running with 1x2Gb DDR2 800mhz GEIL SODIMM in sloth 1 and it is running fine.

I haven't contacted Acer about warranty yet. I did contact the webshop, but they told me Acer warranty would be quickest if I would mention it was a "dead on arrival" product. I haven't done this yet, since I use the notebook a lot and don't want to follow an extensive warranty procedure.

Maybe I'll buy a 1810TZ when it will be released in The Netherlands and sell the (defective) 1810T second hand. A friend of mine mentioned I could also purchase another 1810T, replace it's harddrive and keyboard (because of noticeable keyboard wear) from my defective 1810T with the new one and return the defective 1810T within a week after purchase (we are allowed to do that over here; return online bought products within 1 week after purchase without specifying a reason why we want to return it). I don't think I'm going to do this however since it seems kinda shady and if anything would go wrong, I would end up with 2 1810T's and although you could say 2 1810T's will make a "dual core", I rather just have a single TZ instead lol.

    Hi, Cusem :)
Something else you could check first are the soldering points of the second RAM slot. If you find a good magnifying glass you could inspect every soldering spot and maybe you find a lose/weak contact. A skilled guy with a soldering iron with a fine tip and some soldering flux could solve the problem. It might also be possible to repair it with a tiny bit of "Silberleitlack" on a needle tip and a steady hand. All that would void the warranty though and is only suitable for hackers.

Did memtest come up with an error for you? Mine did a whole pass with no errors detected. Also, sometimes mine boots up with no problems at all. Maybe 30% of the time.

If it's a weak solder joint the problem would pop up randomly depending on temperature or other factors that loosen the connection. And memtest could only report an error if the disconnetion happens while it performs the test.

Yeah...just warranty your laptop, you don't want to mess up your laptop and void warranty.

I guess. It's just a hassle not to have a laptop for that long, especially since I use it to take notes in class and such. I would contact Acer directly about this?

Does this explanation make sense considering that my laptop will bluescreen, restart automatically, give me a "start in safe mode" and "start normally" choice, and if I choose to start normally it will work fine?

I don't know how I could explain this, as I don't know how much knowledge you have about electronics. If you have a weak solder joint, the resistance of this contact will vary if it isn't completely disconnected. If it was completely disconnected it would most likely not boot at all. If there is still a little bit of contact, it might just boot and work fine for a while when the resistance is low but it might also fail when the resistance of that joint gets too high.

My advice is that you should RMA your device.

I'm sorry and I don't want to sound unfriendly, because it's meant with good intentions in mind. I won't tell you where the contacts are, because chances are low that you could fix it seing that you don't know which solder joints I mean.

Oh, I wasn't planning on it. But I'm at a fairly big/good university right now and I'm sure I can find someone who knows what he's doing.

But if anyone has any suggestions for further diagnostics tools to check my hardware and or driver configurations, I'd really appreciate it. I'm running killdisk on my HD right now to see if it's maybe my HD.

Sorry for delay ... Quite bussy lastly ...

I only have a test portable version of LR2.5 and it´s running smooth --- the problem is loading each image ... I tested with RAW images from my Canon 5D (12 Mb) and from my Canon 50D (22 Mb). The problem is that take a little long to load each image (about 1 sg. per Mb almost). Once are loaded, then you can work with them. May be the right version installed is faster ... I usually work with Capture One 4.8 (registered) and this is really pretty fast, faster than with my old Dell D620 !! So, I am happy.

    Cheers
