It means nothing in this case. It's just a sentence they put there. 1410 works with 800MHz RAM and makes games a little faster(shared memory). BTW you can flash the stock 667 RAM to 800MHz(see Timeline Tweaks).
-
yes. The dv2 is 450 in newegg.
http://dealnews.com/HP-Pavilion-AMD...or-450-after-rebate-free-shipping/321790.html -
Wow, that is a really good price, too bad that they don't sell them yet over here in Sweden or I might check one out.
I'm still very happy with my 1810TZ though. -
The dv2 has an Athlon Neo and 4.5h of battery life, right? So what's the point?
-
I draw the line at 3 lbs. (3.5 is really pushing it, the dv2 is 3.8). It's not as much as the weight I'm concerned with, but simply keeping a standard for this class of laptops (blame the netbooks for such an expectation). Otherwise, it becomes another meh-
11.6 - under 3lbs.
12 - under 3 to 3 lbs. (w/o DVD)
13 - 3 (less is always preferable) to 3.5 lbs.
I wonder if the weight is with or w/o the external DVD.
Is the Neo single or dual processor?
If you click on the newegg link, one of the reviewers got only 2 hours 45 minutes of runtime (I hope that was an isolated case).
I would still get the single core 1410 over this- -
I am in Shanghai China for 9 more months, I just looked at the dual core 1810TZ, it is listed at 5999rmb, but the dealer said he could sell it for 5000rmb ~ $732usd, though this is only with the operating system in Chinese. -
Wow a full review on the 1810TZ:
Translated in English: http://translate.google.com/transla...ebook.21019.0.html&sl=de&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
German: http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Acer-Aspire-Timeline-1810TZ-Subnotebook.21019.0.html
6 hours in surfing test, that seems quite a lot less than 1810T with SU3500.
That DV2 has a single core NEO, the SU3500 in the Acer is much stronger.
Acer wins on application performance, battery life and weight.
HP wins on gaming performance. -
Nice review, although the translation messes it up a bit, I also threw up a quick review (see sig) but it's not as thoroughly done as the notebookcheck one.
-
Notebookcheck has several sites in several languages. Notebookcheck.net is English and I think that the English version of the review will be up there soon.
-
On Taobao, many sellers have the dual core 1810TZ for a lot less, this one is 3600rmb ~ $525usd
Search Acer 1810TZ on Taobao (Chinese eBay) -
just got 1810tz in blue
as a bonus my employer paid half of the price, so i got it for 215 euros. it has 1 year warranty, so i plan getting an extension to 3 years for 50 euros -
I just configured the 11z on Dell's site to see the cost difference - they must have posted the config options in the last 24 hours, as they weren't there yesterday.
Base cost is $399 for Celeron 743 1.3GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB hdd, 3 cell battery, Vista Home Basic.
To match Acer:
SU4100 upgrade from Celeron adds $75 (granted this is dual-core, somewhat better than Su3500 in Acer)
Vista Home Premium (from Basic) adds $30
6 cell 56Whr battery adds $35 (per user comments, battery is not flush, but sticks out the bottom like on Dell Mini 10/10v)
250GB hard drive (from 160GB) adds $25
Total $564
Optional improvements over Acer:
Bluetooth adds $20
2 year limited warranty (from 1 year) adds $59
3 year limited warranty (from 1 year) adds $99
Dell is going to have to reduce the price on this. Or else maybe once it hits the Dell Outlet w/ 15% coupons regularly, it might be a contender, but at $115 more + tax/shipping to get basically the same options as Acer 1410, it's too expensive. SU4100 is not that much better than SU3500, in my opinion. -
I also have my Acer 1810t now and I immediately installed Windows 7 on it. I noticed that a normal window is lagging a bit when you close it. Do you have the same problem?
-
Well, I personally wouldn't do the Vista upgrade. I have Win7, not staying with Vista. Pointless $30 spent. And the 5600 battery vs 4400 is worth the extra cost imo. Not flush makes me kinda sad but meh. The rest of the cot seems to be from the SU4100. And I don't see how you can say it's not that much better. Doesn't it get you over the HD Flash hump? It's also loads faster for programs that utilize both cores. There was a benchmark in this thread about it that was pretty impressive to me.
-
You have to do the $30 upgrade to Vista Home Premium (from Basic) if you want the free Win 7 upgrade from Dell. Unless you have Windows 7 from another source and thus didn't need it. So, not pointless.
I like the flush battery of the Acer, but for some, the extra battery life would be more important.
I didn't mean spec-wise it's not that much better, only that for me (I don't need HD flash, for example), the SU4100 doesn't offer a significant advantage over the SU3500. -
A review of the 1810tz from Europe:
http://www.azuricate.com/?p=59 -
What country sells the 1810TZ for 430 euros?
-
i'm from bulgaria, but this is the price without vat and with a small discount (45 euros) for me from the seller. the street price here is around 560 euros with vat
in other news, there is new bios 3115 from yesterday on acer's support site -
Thanks for the info
I wish Acer would include a changelog
-
It is Windows 7 problem.

I noticed the 11z uses the GS45 graphics chipset while the Acer 1410t uses the 4500MHD. Which one is better, and by how much?
-
They use the same chipset.
GS45 is the name of the chipset, 4500HMD is the name of the integrated graphics. -
I like the fact that the processor might get you over the HD hump, but even if you don't do the pay for the Vista/Win 7 upgrade or add bluetooth, you're at $509 (+$40 if you don't like black) and you get a 56Whr (not a 5600mAh).
The AS1410/1810T has a 48Wh battery and a Core 2 Solo, but its street cost is about $100+ less than the Dell with just the CPU and battery upgrade. You get a more from the Dell, so I guess you could call it a wash.
The AS1410T/1810TZ on the other hand should have a street price very similar to the upgraded 11z but it will have bluetooth, Windows 7 is included, and a 63Whr battery. I think the Acer (or the Asus UL20a) wins here.
Edit: Plus Dell charges Shipping and tax. I didn't pay either when I got my 1410. -
Why can't they just make a perfect laptop to my exact wants and specifications and ask only $50 for it?
I thought both the 11z and the 1410/1810 were going to offer the SU4100 as their top end processor option. -
That is my understanding as well.
-
lol Brain fart...well, you know, the acer will be faster for some reason.
J/K.
-
*Drool*
That is pretty much exactly what I want
...except without the Ferrari markings. That at $449 in Black or the Ruby Red like the 1410 (which I still think is a great looking machine) is perfect.
Please someone else release this without the strange stuff (XGP instead of HDMI, and the badges) and at a good price! -
Which application lets you know if I just activated a piece of hardware like the wlan card or bluetooth? On vista there was an application preinstalled but now I am using win7 and I don't have this app anymore.

11.6"ers about to die?
Hope not, this is my new favorite screensize. I could see it happening, happened with my favorite netbook screen size (8.9"), despite its popularity.
-
I hope not
. The only reason I could see for them attempting to phase them out is because many manufacturers desperately want to phase out anything related to netbooks due to profit margins. We've already seen several announcements of 11.6 screen size netbooks and laptops, so if it does happen, there should still be plenty to choose from in the next few months.
The other reason orders may be down, though, is because manufacturers have finished making a slew of them to release when Win 7 ships, judging by all the product announcements that have been made recently.
Manufacturers may not want to sell netbooks, but let's face it, if it's a choice between selling netbooks and selling nothing, they'll probably keep making them. -
I don't believe it. Dell 11z, Acer 1810TZ, HP DM1, Samsung X120 and X140 are brand new 11.6" models that just started selling. After the 22nd of October 11.6" screen demand will pick up.
Maybe the news got lost in translation somewhere and they're referring to netbooks. Asus 1101HA and Acer 751 are being phased out, that makes sense. -
I don't think so. It seems more like the opinion of a website than stated facts.
-
Yep. Assumptions based on hearsay without sources.
I frequently visit several tech blogs and some are having a hard time predicting where the future market of net/notebooks will grow most. Personally I think that 11.6" is exactly the sweet spot of those new low budget netnotes. Manufacturers are about to ruin their margins even further with these devices. -
That's not true
we are waiting for dual core, better battery life, and lighter 11.6"
also a graphic card like 9400 or 4330 -

Digitimes says 11.6" panel demand is dropping. Maybe after these current 11.6"er's there won't be any more?
Also, Digitimes 2 days earlier said demand was rising, but that could be wrong. -
The Digitimes article needs a proper interpretation
-
Digitimes is not entirely accurate information. Multiple non-verified information sources can lead to conflicting information.

hi guys, after checking out this board I just purchased a 1410. I put in two new ram boards 2x2 but bios and vista only read 2 meg???? is this because of 32 bit vista? bios won't let me change it. any help
-
swap the ram in each slot to rule out improper installation and faulty memory.
-
I don't understand how the demand could drop when 11.6" notebooks have JUST entered the market, there's not even enough time to see consumer reaction to them!
-
Just want to remind folks of this critical review of a ~Dell~11z with the slower Intel 723 CPU. Many comments on the poor build and design of this machine.
An excerpt..
"Unfortunately, once you include the flawed touchpad, it turns into a netbook that is very hard to recommend to anyone without a massive overhaul of the hardware and driver support. I can honestly say that before we received our Inspiron 11z, multiple editors in our office were considering purchasing it for a travel notebook. Now we are waiting for the next machine, or updated 11z which has the same or better features with a functional touchpad." -
Can anyone test out there speakers for me? My right speaker seems to be decently louder than the left.
-
I'll accept this ^ truth any day over Digitimes hearsay articles. And many 11.6" laptops will only start selling in three weeks. After that one can evaluate how demand is. Now it's just speculation.
By the popularity of this thread I would say 11.6" is going to be very popular. -
Went hunting for the 1810TX and the new Asus UL20A in downtown Taipei today. Still no TX, but surprised to find an Asus with the SU7300 CPU. Feels good and looks great. But sad to say there is no HDMI port, and no free surface where a port may be placed later on. IMO
Find a few more photos & info at the Asus UL20a forum if interested.
... comments should probably follow over at the Asus forum as well.

Details leaked on more 11.6" competitors for the 1810TZ...
The ultra-thin HP Pavilion dm1 with 5GB DDR3 max, weird!
And the Toshiba Satellite T110 (the T115 in the US). 11 hour battery & HDMI
Making me crazy. :confused2: -
I've observed the same thing on mine as well...
-
Dam that worked, thank you. I tried removing and putting back but did not think to swap them. again thanks jay d
-
Interesting, wonder if its the location or something.
-
Hi guys,
I have read the entire thread. there are great infos here. However, I did not find what I needed to know. Anyone has tried to hook up the 1410 to a regular TV?
I have the Gateway version and a VGA to SVideo adapter, and I just can't get the signal to the TV. -
FYI, looks like Intel will be replacing all the single core CULV's processors with dual-cores in Q409.
See the following link to their roadmap:

I just did an undervolting MOD and recognized that the right speaker is much larger. I think it might have an integrated mini subwoofer or something like that.
