Which benchmark softwares do you use to test this 1410?

No need to have a guide. There is a small cover under your laptop. Use a screwdriver and open it. There you will see your RAM(s) so you can easily change it by pulling tie clips at both side gently.

I'm guessing she was wrong. I've never heard of a program where you can download the Windows 7 upgrade.

    Acer's Windows 7 program is here: http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/

i should probably create a new thread in the win7 section to ask this but you guys can probably answer this with just 1 word.

when i go clean installs of win7 (or vista). is my netbook technically "new" again? would some error or problems from my previous OS carry over?

ever since i got this netbook i've done clean installs atleast 4 times and i think i need to do it again(for 64bit win7). i wonder if this is bad.

    thanks.

I just saw that. It is seriously amazing. Guesses on price? My bet is at least $700. Our new C2D's coming out start at like 550 and get up to 600ish.

I think I've decided. I will give my 3810t to my parents who want a computer for fun, all they have are their work laptops. I will buy this for me and combine my want of a netbook sized notebook and a tablet. :D Just hope this approaches 8 hours of battery life, and the battery does not stick out. Wish I could pre-order it.

Has anyone tried using this with 2 external monitors (using both HDMI and VGA ports at the same time)? I'm interested in this if it can be used with 24" (1920x1200) connected via HDMI and a 22" (1680x1060) connected via VGA.

Wow, thanks for posting! I'm in love!
This new 11.6" Gateway EC18T tablet PC looks fantastic.
Gateway is now part of Acer, so you can see an evolution of the 1810 design.
    Twenty four great photos.

Had no interest in tablet PCs until I learned of the extensive
new touch capabilities of Windows 7. (about half-way down the link)
    A quick quote...
"The reason Windows 7 Touch is so exciting is that it mirrors the way we interact... In fact, it works so well, you miss it when it's gone. After getting used to multi-touch interfaces on... , I found it hard to return to my traditional PCs. In fact, I've reached out to "touch" objects on my regular display, which has proven disappointing since this display doesn't support the functionality."

Windows doesn't like something. That happened to me recently with XP. All because I disabled my wireless card. It was on my Dell. I turned the card off off while I was using Linux and the next time I tried to use Windows I got the blue screen. It mysteriously fixed itself after booting to Dell's Media Center. This was with the factory install and it still didn't play well with my hardware...?

Moral of the story, try Linux! ;) (Oh boy, here we go...)

0x7F can be anything... what about the 2nd attempt? What comes 1st in my mind, possible Vcore problems. Faulty RAM or RAM socket. For the latter you can try the other slot to check, but consider RMA.

These are my exact same choices. I wrote off the Dell because it only had one RAM slot and it was way more than the other two choices. Although, I still don't have any idea how much the 1410tz would be.

I saw that there are new bios updates (3117) for the 1810t, but I couldn't find any release notes on changes made to the bios config.
I'm always a little bit careful about patching the bios. Did you encounter problems or can you tell what things gave chnaged from the 3113 version?

"Acer's Timeline 1810T gets the Tablet Treatment, Morphs into an 1820P". At engadget.

We now have a model number for Acer's new touch screen.
It won't be just Gateway with their new EC18T tablet.

Update Oct 9th ~ Just noticed many sites are calling this tablet the 1820T.
    Try 1820T for web searches.

This is a very long thread so forgive me for what I'm sure is a repetitive question. I'm looking for a sub $500 ultraportable/netbook that can play Flash 720p like that of the NFL Game Pass ( https://gamepass.nfl.com/nflgp/secure/registerform) or the MLB online package. I spend most of my time outside the US and will be making a trip back to Pennsylvania in a couple weeks. I don't have time to wait for the TZ due to my travel dates but the 1410t seems like it will fit my needs. Can the 1410t reliably handle a 3-4 hour NFL game at 720p via the HDMI cable out to an LCD HDTV? I've read posts claiming it can't and posts claiming it can. I'm sort of confused at this point. Thanks!

Specs. If true, I am getting the dual core Gateway version:

Intel SU3500 CULV processor @ 1.4GHz clock speed
    11.6-inch display
    Touchscreen, multi-touch
    1366×768 resolution
    250GB HDD
    2GB RAM (upto 4GB supported)
    Intel GMA 4500MHD chipset

That Specs is probably an inaccurate parasite posting.
Intel has already stopped producing the SU3500.
    Reference link

Since Acer is so far ahead of the field, I'm guessing and hoping
that the new US 11.6" Acers will have the Intel SU7300 cpu.

The SU3500 may be out of production, but there are still plenty made to get into this. And the SU7XXX's won't officially take over the SU3500 until next year. Who knows, maybe I'll just wait to see if these tablets get upgraded to Arrandale before I get one.

In my experience, it cannot handle the higher quality HD Youtube videos out there smoothly enough as I would want for sports. Also, do you mean 3-4 hours without charging? Because if you're next to a TV hooked up with HDMI... why does the battery life matter? I think it might be able to do 2 hours, maybe 3. I mean, you're asking it basically to do the most processor intensive thing you can ask it to do.

+1. Wait for the dual-core. Also, if watching TV is the main goal, why does it have to be ultra portable?

Well that's easy. Maybe his friends have the TV and he has the portable HTPC. That's basically what this thing is with its HDMI out and 1080p capabilities. But it's not like anywhere a TV is plugged in won't have a spare outlet for his computer...

I have both an asus 1000he and acer 1410t. Using paperport 12 pro to resave jpeg files into a pdf, the asus is 4 times faster. The asus is using xp and the 1410t windows 7. I have the latest bios and intel graphics drivers on the 1410t. What can be the problem. I have 4 gig of 800mhz memory.

How about compressing and decompressing large (cd size to multigigabyte archives) files with WinZip? I find that even core 2 duos bog on this task.

It seems sad if an atom based netbook trounces the 1410. Or is it an OS (XP vs W7) issue?

Seems like a normal score for the SU3500.

Maybe there's some issue with paperport 12 pro and Vista. Which makes your 1000H faster.

What hard drive do you have? it seems to be really fast.

Thanks for the informative replies as always. I wanted something around $500 and ultraportable because in addition to an HTPC I would use this is for light work and short travel trips around Peru where I can do some work (I'm a java programmer who works remotely) in between visits to Machu Picchu etc :). I planning to buy a full on desktop replacement in the $2000 range in spring 2010 so I wanted this to sorta hold me over till then and act as my travel buddy as well.

It seems the 1410 is not going to fit my needs and the 3810 is $800+. Is there any sub $500 ultraportable that can handle full screen flash 720p (plugged into the wall)? I am getting out of the scope of this thread so I suppose I should start a thread in the What Should I Buy forum. Thanks again!

I have a full Java development stack on the 1410 (Eclipse with Subversion, Maven, and Flex plugins) running on Ubuntu. It works great in every way except full screen video. Video playback is slightly better under Vista, but still not perfect. I think the 1410TZ (with the dual-core) or something like it would be the ticket. You're just a few weeks away from a slue of $500-$600 dual-core
    ultra portables. Hang in there!

Also, I don't use HDMI, but somewhere I got the impression that video playback to a TV works fine because it's no being rendered on the computer. This didn't make sense to me, but I'm clueless in this area. Can someone please clarify this?
