    Well the main issue is I'll be in the US on Oct. 23rd. I will need my laptop straight away to work. I can only bring 1 laptop at a time with me when I return to Peru. So I was planning to leave my current older laptop behind. This means since the TZ is not out yet I can't ship it in time for my arrival if I wait much longer. I'll need to pray Best Buy or somewhere else has it on the day I arrive. Re: HDMI out to a TV, that is all I'll be using the full screen flash for. HDMI out, I wouldn't care if I couldn't full screen it on the primary display. Thanks again...

    Well, your timing sucks! lol Isn't it wonderful how the PC world revolves around Microsoft?

    Do the research on the HDMI thing. I could be (and I probably am) completely wrong about the TV deal. I don't know what I read that gave me that impression and I've never tried it. I don't know anything about it. I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you more.

    You could also bring your laptop with you, then ship it back if you do manage to find and purchase a TZ during your stay.

    Believe me, you don't want to be shipping a laptop to Peru. The import tax on electronics (used or new) is 33% :eek: Same goes for bringing in more than 1 laptop, 33% tax right there at the airport not to mention being held up in long lines after an 8 hour flight. The sad thing is, it all comes down to pushing a button at the airport, if the light turns green, no search. If it turns red, bend over and get some lube if you have electronics in your luggage!

    I might just exercise some patience and wait for my Spring 2010 trip or look at other options for now. Thanks for all the assistance. Whatever I end up buying I promise to pay back the forums with some detailed reviews of the full screen 720p playback :)

    @ mali:
    the ram mod 4gb flashed to 800 MHz is one I am going to implement; remains just the issue of getting one more bar of 2 gb, exactly the same as the stock ram already inside the 1810.
    my rambar inside has a sticker printed KN2GB0B01193215BB82500 on it.
    The empty slot has a sticker printed MESA10600192215BB82500 on it.
    Is that relevant to identify the ramtype and is it the same as your stockram?
    If so, where did you order a supplementary one (because I reckon you are based in Germany, if I recall correctly)?
    Thanks for the info!

    Those numbers are from Acer. The Samsung sticker is most likely underneath that sticker. The Samsung number is this:

    M4 70T5663EH3-CE6

    I bought an M4 70T5663QZ3-CF7 off eBay which doesn't need to be flashed anymore. I got it from this seller:

    http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130333275768&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

    He sent me a wrong module first and I reported it to Paypal and got the right one afterwards. "Käuferschutz" is cool :D

    Sorry to hear that- maybe you could plan to rent a laptop?

    I've probably hung out with too many women- no offense to the ladies here, but I have known a few who were not above buying certain items,
    but then returning them within the exchange/return period.

    I don't know man, between 33% penalty and waiting until next spring seem too extreme to me. I think it calls for some creative thinking.

    Actually, Ruby Red is not as bad as most of the images from online stores show (pinkish or even lavender on some). It's not a "girly" red or anything like that - it's more like maroon or dark red. Sticks out among all too dominant black laptops at the company meetings, hehe :)

    I got one from Amazon from pure determination to pay as little as possible - ended up at $420 shipped total. At that time, Diamond Black was $450, a week later dropped to $430... Believe me, that Ruby Red is actually quite fine. :)

    Does anybody know if there is a speed improvement in going from dual channel PC2-5300 to PC2-6400? I've seen benchmarks that compare single channel PC2-5300 to dual channel PC2-6400 on this laptop, but nothing that gives a direct dual channel comparison. According to Wikipedia,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#cite_note-intel320122-33

    the GS45 chipset in this laptop is capped out at 320MHz clock speed, which would indicate there would be no need for PC2-6400. Anybody want to chime in?

    Haha, being in expat Peru for 4 years now I've had all sorts of creative moments getting electronics in here. When I moved here I took apart my gaming PC and spread it throughout my luggage. I bought a new tower and reassembled here. I should just wait by baggage claim in Lima and find someone without a laptop and bribe them $20 to go in front of me in line at customs and carry my extra laptop through. Something tells me in this day and age that might not go over well!

    Anyway, I've got some decisions to make. I wish my cousin had planned his wedding around the Win 7 release a little better! At least his wife is a manager at Best Buy and I've asked her if she's got any insider info on the TZ release :)

    @tigerbalm
    I did some tests but no 667 dual channel vs 800 dual channel and I don't want to reflash just for those tests. Something you have to keep in mind is the different FSB: DRAM ratio of 800 vs 667. The GPU clock speed is not important as the 4500MHD's performance is capped by DRAM bandwith. The GPU itself is not the bottleneck.

    what i just want to know is if i'll see some tangible difference if i put in 4gb of pc6400 vs 4gb of pc5300. looks like your saying the 800mhz bandwidth of the dram would be a boost to the system right (vs 667mhz)?

    I haven't done research on this yet since it's easy to flash 1410/1810t's RAM to 800MHz and thus no need to leave it at 667MHz. Out of curiosity I just googled a little bit and found an interesting article:

    I noticed something regarding the screen/panel:

    Blue version: has a yellowish white
    Red version: best of t bunch, white being white
    Black version: white is mostly white, but seems to be a bit washed out

    The red version has the best panel. Anyone know how to check which panel number/model the laptop has? I think they have different makers!

    i did some reading and most ppl says that 2x 667 and 2x 800 will experience very minor difference(not notable unless in benchmarks). this is why i bought a 667 2gig to dual channel with my stock 667.

    i did try to flash it to 800 tho however thaipoon burner does not work in 64bit win7.

    related questions:
    is "spd flashing" the ram same as overclocking it?
    does flashing it reduce the ram's lifespan?
    is it permanent (ie. placing the ram in another comp would still be 800)?

    im thinking to flash both my 667 to 800 when thaiphoon burner works. but im wondering if the minor improvement is worth the risk.

    I will downgrade to 667 tonight and post results.
    Enabling 6-6-6-18 800MHz on a 667MHz stick rated at 5-5-5-15 is no overclocking in my opinion. As an interesting side note, at 800MHz the overclocking stability improved.

    I don't know much about memory stuff but I suppose that those 6-6-6-18 timings are kind of a legacy mode made for 667MHz modules to be able to run at 800MHz and those modules are basically one and the same just with a different SPD table. My flashed 667MHz module and the bought 800MHz module behave exactly the same.

    I'll post the results tonight. It will reveal if it's worth to bother with flashing or if it's not. Also for me it was just an experiment just for fun. Generally I advise not to touch a running system as it could brick you RAM.

    Edit:
    Yes, it's permanent.

    I've done a small test. I ran the first two 3D Mark 03 game tests:

    1.7GHz dual 800MHz
    Wings of Fury: 64.2fps
    Battle of Proxycon: 16.0fps

    1.7GHz dual 667MHz
    Wings of Fury: 54.4fps
    Battle of Proxycon 12.7fps

    800Mhz clearly is the way to go.

    Edit2:
    Code:
    667MHz 5-5-5-15 2x2GB dual channel vs. 800MHz 6-6-6-18 2x2GB dual channel

    Hi guys... A newbie here in the forums... Have been reading notebookreviews for a while and now the "time" has arrived for my lenovo Y300. This laptop is a freaking stove...

    Anyways... I'm very interested in the acer 1410. In Indonesia, it is specced as follows:

    Linpus™ Linux® ,
    Intel® Celeron® processor SU2300 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB,10 W) *****
    Intel® GS45 Express Chipset;
    Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 802.11b/g/Draft-N ;
    11.6" HD Acer CineCrystal™ LED-backlit TFT LCD
    2GB DDR2 ;
    250GB HDD;
    Integrated Bluetooth ;
    Multi-in-1 Card Reader ;
    HDMI™ port with HDCP support ;
    Crystal Eye webcam with Acer PrimaLite™ technology ;
    Dolby Sound Room® ;
    6 hour battery life (47.52 W 4400 mAh 6-cell Li-ion battery pack: )****

    Price: $600 =_=

    I've tried to follow this thread but after page 100 something I gave up T_T...

    My primary questions are:
    - has anyone benchmarked the SU2300 vs SU4100/SU3500?
    - Anyone else has the 4400 mAh battery? If so, how long does it last in office + browsing use?
    - I assume this config can at least play warcraft III (dota) and counter strike?

    Thanks beforehand and please forgive me if this question has been posted before but I'm pretty sure that up 'till page 100 something it has not appeared XD

    For me, on balanced power settings, Win7, 4GB or RAM, some optimization, lowest brightness (which is still pretty bright to me) get comfortably 5 hours. It's notetaking + some browsing and torrenting.

    My model has the SU3500 though, so YMMV.

    i see. 5 hours is still a HUGE improvement. My current battery barely makes 1 hour.

    On a sidenote, my GF has a 4810T with SU9400. How far would the difference between SU9400 and SU2300 be? Thanks...

    @ der_mali or lepton or others that opened up their 1410s...

    How exactly do you take it apart? So far I undid all the screws, removed the battery, RAM and HDD covers, and pushed in those tabs which hold the keyboard at the top. I can get the bottom of the chassis to lift up, but it seems that upper part is held by something on the sides. I don't want to break it part, so I soliciting some further guidance, please? I want to get the mod done to allow overclocking today...

    Thanks!

    Did you completely remove the keyboard and the screws underneath the keyboard also?
    Be careful at the edges between hinge and battery there are small plastic noses that break easily.

    Hi der_mali! So the keyboard will come out (after pushing the 4 tabs in) without pulling the plastic cover out first? What about those 2 small "tabs" on left and right side that appear to be part of the plastic cover but appear to not "go in" anywhere, when pushed?

    I have yet to get a full 5hrs out of my battery. Maybe if I really really tried, but I'm usually getting 4-4.5hrs. This would be with Wifi on the whole time.

    Yeah, those side tabs are a bit awkward. You have to lift the keyboard in the middle a bit more and push those side tabs a bit harder. Then unlock the keyboard ribbon by pulling the thin black tab carefully upwards and remove all the screws underneath the keyboard.

    It performs a little bit better than a Celeron 723 and a bit worse than SU3500 ;)

    About 450 Passmark CPU Mark in Vista (educated guess).

    I hear that the su9400 got 934 points in passmark , is 450 not a bit high for a su2300? , unless the 934 is wrong.

    EDIT : I just saw your post phil

    Roughly, in Passmark CPU Mark:
    SU2300 450 points (if single core)
    SU3500 490 points
    SU2300 625 points (if dual core)
    SU4100 750 points
    SU9400 900 points

    Still couldn't find a SU2300 benchmark anywhere T_T

    Yeah, I guess it looks OK :) Actually, a colleague took care of that - he's a trained professional, and SMD rework is his everyday job. My hands are not steady enough anymore...

    I will report back on the RAM results - I actually work in this field, and had some older DIMMs lying around in the lab :)

    I wonder if they made a mistake, it says DDR2 667 SDRAM , in the link above not DDR2 800?

    That's correct. It works with either 667 or 800 and comes with 667.

    Oh yeah and also Bluetooth is built in along with a 320GB 5400 rpm drive (even though I already have the 320GB 7200 rpm drive I want in my 1410). It sounds like Acer has been listening to us. I wonder what the US price point will be. Do I hear $495.95 for the TZ or are people guessing $549.95?

    I guess someone will get a sweet deal on my 1410. I'll probably just throw in the 320GB drive from the 1810 one and use my current 320GB 7200 rpm drive on the 1810TZ. DO you think someone on eBay would pay more for the 5600 mAh battery rather than the 4400 mAh battery? I can't decide whether I should keep the 5600 as a spare or just keep the extra 4400 around. Heck with 2 5600 batteries that is about 14 - 16 hours total. Wow.

    You know that reminds me of something. Does anyone know of a higher power AC adapter that will work with the 1410/1810? The 30 watt charger takes forever to juice up the battery and I am considering getting a bigger adapter. Thanks.

    SU7300 is faster, but not by much. The extra 1GB of L2 cache helps though.

    The SU7300 is dual-core so it should be faster (plus it has more cache, 3 MB vs 2 MB for the SU4100).

    A better question is whether the SU4100 is faster or slower than the SU3500 in the 1410. The SU3500 is a 1.4Ghz Core2 Solo with a 3 MB cache while the SU4100 is a 1.3Ghz PENTIUM processor with a 2 MB cache. The numbering system would make you think the SU4100 is faster but the cache and clock speed would indicate otherwise. Isn't there a comparison chart somewhere?

    The SU4100 is dual core.

    Why does the Gateway EC18T use DDR3 ram, yet this doesn't?

    I just noticed the the SU4100 is dual core. My bad. So wait there is both a SU4100 and a SU7300 option. Is one the 1810T and the other the 1810TZ in the US. Confused. Here is a spec comparision of all 3 processors.
