    This might be the model that's going to be sold at BB stores- and the SU2300 their online only offering.

    I'm really confused now. I have been looking at the 1410 for a while and I was waiting for October 22nd for the dual core model, which I thought would be the 1810tz. According to these past few posts, it looks like they have released several new models. Is there a chart showing the differences between them and which one is the best now?

    Thanks!

    Except for the AS1410 w/Celeron 743 and the first AS1410 w/SU3500, the 1810T, 1810TZ and new AS1410 will all have dual core processors.

    The 1810T w/SU7300 @ $599 and TZ w/SU4100 @ $549 offer a larger battery and hard drives, Bluetooth, and 4GB/3GB RAM.

    Then new (and improved) AS1410 @$399 will have the SU2300, a slightly smaller battery and hard drive, no bluetooth and 2GB RAM.

    I would avoid the AS1410 with the Celeron 743 and the AS1410 with the SU3500 single core unless you can get them for a lot less than $399.00.

    In a nutshell:

    •Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T- 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 laptop with Win7 Home Premium, 1.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 dual core CPU, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Bluetooth, 8 hour battery for $600
    •Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ – 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 laptop with Win7 Home Premium, 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU4100 dual core CPU, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Bluetooth, 8 hour battery for $550
    •Acer Aspire AS1410 – 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel laptop with Win7 Home Premium, 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 6 hour battery for $400

    "Best" is up to you. I'm getting the 1810T, but is it worth the $200 premium from the 1410? Again, that's up to you.

    Good stuff. I need something for my wife (she's going back to school) and the AS1410 might be just the ticket for her.

    And if I like it, I might just want the AS1810T for myself. ;)

    Keep in mind these are the new models. There was a different AS1410 with a Core2Solo and 250GB HD.

    That's the one I have. I'm not sure where the Core2Solo processor stands compared to the others. I am torn about whether or not to exchange it for an 1810T.

    Great stuff, but that means that the two 1810 threads are mislabeled. This one is called "single core," while the TZ thread is labeled "dual core," which is technically correct but still confusing. :confused:

    Just so you guys know the 4810TZ 1810TZ and 1410TZ went on sale here yesterday including the Olympic versions of 4810TZ and the 1810TZ (just means that they are in white!!!!) and win7..

    So I did not have time yesterday nor today to go get me one , so now being in the position of not knowing what to do

    a) go for a 1810TZ
    b) go for a HP-DM1 or .....

    What do you suggest/recommend ?

    what do you want to know about the machines as even if I don't buy a model, i can still play with it :)

    I find it interesting that on NewEgg.com, the new 1410 models with the Celeron processor are placed in the "netbook" portion of the site whereas the older 1410 models with the Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor are in the "notebook" portion of the site.

    The same goes for the Gateway rebranded versions.

    For $399, you get either the single-core Celeron M 743 and 250gb hard drive or dual-core Celeron SU2300 and 160gb hard drive. So, you choose between a better processor or larger hard drive.

    There are way too many models and these are just from Acer! :)

    I couldn't disagree more! I think it's great that we have all these choices. The consensus here seems to be that the 1410 with the SU2300 offers the most bang for your buck, and I agree. However, that doesn't make it the best choice for everyone. I chose the 1810T because I want the extra battery life. I want the bigger hard drive so I can store some HD video and a decent collection of music . I want the fastest processor and the most RAM I can get because I plan to do some H.264 AVC HD video editing in Sony Vegas.

    The point is, having choices is never a bad thing IMHO. :)

    Oh, I don't have a problem with all these models. My head is just spinning from all the model numbers and processors.

    I would just like to have a detailed matrix or something of the sort placed which can compare all of these models. Maybe we should create a separate thread for it.

    singel core / dual core ???

    most games that runs on my 1810t dont support dualcore! so i'm happy with 1 core @ 1,4ghz and 3mb cache. (and longer battery life)

    Looking at the shape of my 1810t's 6 cell I guess that it will stick out a bit and put the device in an angle. It won't stick out as much as on older netbook models I suppose.

    What about this comment:

    increases battery life to 12 hours (should be the case for the lowest end processors - I would imagine 8 hours for the dual core ones).

    I thought the dual cores were already getting 8 hours???

    Hi!
    There is a PDF floating around somewhere in which a thorough test of the single core Celeron 3810t and su9400 3810t battery life was described. The difference was about 10 or 15 minutes iirc.

    Btw, I didn't want to sound disrespectful :eek:

    Edit:
    I found it. I didn't recall correctly, it was 41 minutes. Here is the document:
    http://www.principledtechnologies.com/clients/Reports/Acer/3810T_3810TZ_0509.pdf

    As I understand it only the battery life comment was about 13.3", not the whole 9 cell battery thing which should apply to all Timelines.

    English is not my first language but that update just clarifies the battery life comment, as I understand it. Timeline series covers all models and even the photo in that article shows the 11.6" model

    I hope frychiko can clarify this.

    Just wondering how this is fared in comparison with the Acer Timeline 1810tz

    Both has same processor. Toshiba offers a DDR3 RAM, eSATA port, little heavier than acer. Is there anything else I am missing? Toshiba costs 449 but acer costs 549.

    Toshiba Satellite T115 $449 http://laptops.toshiba.com/pressrelease/456433
    * Features available on the Toshiba Satellite T115 include: 11.6-inch diagonal widescreen HD TruBrite™ LED Backlit display

    * Intel® Pentium® SU4100 processor or Intel® Celeron® 743 processor5
    * DDR3 RAM6
    * Starting at 250GB (5400 RPM) HDD7
    * 802.11b/g/n wireless8 10/100 Ethernet
    * Toshiba Hard Drive Impact Sensor
    * Touch Pad with Multi-touch Control
    * Lightweight at only 3.49 lbs.2
    * Long-life 6-cell battery delivering up to 9 hours of battery life3

    So you pay $50 more than the SU2300 1410, get an inferior CPU, better battery life, no gigabit ethernet, and an extra 90GB of HD.

    Toshiba doesn't have any dual core options in the 11.6" size.

    The Toshiba shows Intel® Pentium® Processor SU2700 (single core) as the processor for the laptop you mention. It does not have bluetooth. I bought a Toshiba Satellite once that had the battery, CD drive and keyboard fail within the first year, and the LCD and hinge just after the 1-year warranty expired. Awful build-design (hinge) and build-quality -- so personally I'm not touching a Toshiba Satellite with a 10-foot pole ever in my life again. But, to each his own.

    Amazon already has two Toshiba T115 models
    The $479 model has the SU2700 single core (I think),
    not the much faster SU2300 that the new 1410 has.
    The Intel number system is not always an indicator of preformance.

    Still... the Toshiba is beginning to look like the first real
    competitor to Acer's new 1410 and 1810 models.
