Comming back to the flex problem of the keyboard, I went the other day into a retail store and checked few netbooks, and guess what: almost all of them had this flex. Some of them more than the others. I would say my 1410 has less flex then most I`ve seen. So, I might live with this small issue and take it as it is.

Thanks for the conformation Metallion. I have a HF100 as well, and the footage from that camcorder seems to be no more taxing than the Happuage HDPVR that i have as well, so i should be good! I didn't notice that I was posting in the single core thread, as i am looking at the 1410-2801 model with the SU2300 at the moment.
-
does the 1410 have a modem?
-
The 1810t doesn't so I think the 1410 doesn't either.
-
I just didn't like the look and feel of it. Plus the position of the /\ and the big enter key. It only costed $20 so why not?
-
Well for that price -- yeah. But where did you get it? Prolly just can't walk into Staples and pick it off the shelf.
-
Some here will be interested in the video performance of the newest ~1810T.
Metallion posted this at the NBR~1810T (dual core) Thread.
"Just received my new AS1810T-8679 (SU7300 cpu).... here are a few initial performance observations:
The first thing I just had to test was the infamous Lady Gaga video referenced in Phil's review of the SU3500 version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAV8bxC-eOc. I wanted to start by putting the device in a very typical or "real world" situation, so I played this video full screen with ten i.e. tabs open, all crapware still installed, and no tweeks whatsoever.
The result was perfectly smooth playback, with CPU usage hovering in the 55-60% range most of the time, and peaking out a few times at 70-73%. This is exactly the kind of performance I was hoping for! I also played some 1080p H.264 AVC HD clips from my Canon HF100 camcorder. This also played smoothly even in WMP, with CPU usage averaging about 30%. Sweet! " -
I don't have a HD camcorder but I can confirm the playback quality of the Lady Gaga clip referenced above on my totally stock new 1810T as well as locally stored H.264 1080p clips. I performed no tweaks or bloatware removal whatsoever. I didn't even load a newer version of Flash than whatever was preinstalled on the machine. So far I am VERY impressed with the performance combination of the SU7300 & Win 7 on the 1810T!! Also, the 1810T came with 4GB of DDR2 800 (not 667 as I was expecting).

I know its not related, but is there any news on the HP DM1 release in the US? I want to see how much it will go for before I pull the trigger on the 1410 refresh. I sold my old Compaq v2000z (Turion 64) for $300, so the 1410 is priced right, but if the HP is only a little bit more for a few more features, then it'd be awesome.
-
I've been wondering the same thing, but from the specs I've seen on the HP ( here), the HP doesn't have much that the 1410 doesn't have- a slightly larger HD and 1 more gig of RAM max, but also a smaller keyboard (92% full size- the same keyboard as their 10.1" netbooks).
In other countries, I've seen the dm1 listed at US $699, and the dm3 for US $799. Since the dm3 ended up here at $549, I would imagine the dm1 will be around $459, which would still make the 1410 a better deal. -
-
10/100 ethernet kinda kills it for me. The DM1 is only G wireless. -
The DM1 uses DDR3 (big whoop), and if I understand it correctly it has 1GB soldered on the motherboard and has 1 SO-DIMM slot. As a result, I'm not sure how you can get dual channel operation with more than 2GB of RAM, though HP claims it's dual channel with all RAM configurations.
-
ebay of course
-
I'm going to go with the 1410. Better to spend a little and upgrade earlier than spend a lot and get little resell value in the long run. Now to decide on Blue or Black. =) Going to just go through Amazon since J&R seems to have limited supply.
-
The 1410/SU2300 combo is the best bang for the buck.
-
The SU2300 is a poor quality, low life expectancy, destined to be discontinued soon processor, doubtful if it works well paired with INTEL GMA 4500.ACER got a great deal on them(actually cheaper than the CELERON 743) that's why the 399 price...If you want my opinion the TZ is a much better deal....
-
:comment removed due to the unproductive nature of my initial response--
-
Yep. Opinions are worthless without evidence or even proper reasoning.
-
So much for free speech...Soooory, I just expressed my views ,I didn't force you to agree with them....Before you get so angry(highly suspisious) look up in a dictionary the meaning of the word ''forum"...Again I apologise for expressing my views.........
-
Let's not start fights over nothing. Calling someone a troll because he didn't prove his opinion is not acceptable either.
-
I deleted my initial response since it does not add value to the point raised.
-
Very well, point taken.
@thundernet
I apologize for calling you a troll. I was out of line there. -
Apology accepted....and If I was out of line(not my intention)I apologise too...End of story.....
-
Sorry to post this once more, but I haven't got any answers to my question:
What are the changes in the BIOS updates doing to the system and/or where can I read some update notes about them? I can't seem to find them on the Acer website.
PS: I have my SU3500 model for two months now and I don't regret buying it. It's a nice companion to work with. -
@V1810T
The changelog is not publicly available. Contact Acer and they will send you the changelog. If you got it post it here please
-
Its cheaper due to being easy to manufacturer, as it uses the same die as the other processors (SU4100 and SU7300), it just has some cache disabled. Everything gets cheaper as the manufacturing process is improved. Look at consoles. They all get cheaper as ways to manufacture them (new processes, cheaper part suppliers, etc) become available.
-
How can I make that setting active ? Thanks.

Don't want to restart the outburst that followed this posting...
But some of the original post would seem reasonable if talking
about the notoriously slow SU2700, not the new SU2300.
Easy to be confused given Intel's naming system. -
All I was saying is that for the past 2 months people run to buy the 1410/su3500 only to discover that they couldn't watch HD movies, couldn't do any decent gaming...in short didn't get much more than their old atom/xp netbook. There where a lot of expectations that weren't fulfilled...The same is happening again..people are unloading their old 1410 to get on the new 1410 bandwagon....People talk about the 1410/su2300 as if it will be a desktop replacement...We should be careful not to create unrealistic expectations..because they cost people money and dissapointment...
-
Sorry to say, but you don't seem to be on par with the discussion so far. I bought a 1810t with su3500 and got exactly what I wanted. It runs in circles around any netbook and in fact replaced my 15.4" core 2 duo laptop in everyday work. People _can_ watch HD movies and even run games on it. I did extensive testing. I don't know which discussion you have been following but certainly not the discussion on these boards.
The su2300 has an excellent price/performance ratio, that's a fact.
Take your time and browse through the forum a bit more and make up your mind afterwards
-
If you can watch youtubeHD,do some serious gaming,or encode some video on an 1810/su3500 machine then I agree I am not on par with the discussion. Thanks for setting me straight.........
-
I can't see any APs with netstumbler http://www.netstumbler.com/ although I can see lots with my aspire 5002.
Can anyone verify this? I have a 1410. -
I think you are projecting your views to others, potentially non existent
I've been following this model since the beginning, and purchased when it was available. Haven't been disappointed a bit, quite to the contrary! Fact is, I knew what I needed, and I got exactly that. Actually, quite a bit more.
Haven't really seen any posts lately supporting your view from others either, honestly. -
It's your views, again. You assume we wanted all the above. No I did not
For the record I'm in the video games business and it has never, ever crossed my mind to play any games on this. -
You said "watch HD" you didn't say "watch Youtube HD". You said "decent gaming" you didn't say "serious gaming". I didn't mention encoding video at all in my post. I'm a scientific guy and I can only discuss something when there is a logical base in the argumentation.
If you can come up with some quotes that prove your claim: "There were a lot of expectations that weren't fulfilled." which is what got me started in the first place, we can talk again. -
Acer is a great company making great machines for their value..Each model is confiqured to have certain abilities and certain limitations. To put it simply a 400$ ACER cannot do what a 900$ ACER does.To assume the opposite simply will have people running for the next model every 2 months(exactly what is happening in the american market right now).I can quote at least 100 posts of people complaining(after they bought it)about the inability to play youtubeHD.These are the people(and not the knowledgable ones that are responding to my posts)that should be informed beforehand so they make a wise buying desicion.A 400$ machine is a 400$ machine.Acer is not stupid......
-
The very first person who had the 1810t was Phil and he made a thorough review and found Youtube HD to be something the su3500 has problems with. This was long ago and the entire discussion on these boards takes place with Phil's review in mind. I am someone who registered on these boards just to discuss the 11.6" Timelines and read every post of all 1410/1810t/1810tz threads. Where are these hundreds of people complaining?
Edit:
Btw, a statement that a $400 computer won't perform on par with a $900 computer is very generic and doesn't fit in this discussion. -
I just got my 1410. After two hours so far have been impressed. I did notice some keyboard flex, but I really didn't think it would bother me - until I noticed that it's not just the keyboard that's flexing - the bottom of the unit is not flat. On any level surface (I've tried several), the front right corner does not touch the table - it's about 1/8" above the surface. As soon as I put my hands on it to type, it touches. I've never experienced this before - is this problem common to this model, or to laptops in general? I'm trying to figure out if it bothers me enough to return it.
-
I bought the 1410 SU2300 as a portable computer. I was tired of lugging around my 7-8lb Compaq v2000z with the 12cell battery. I wanted something portable that would let me surf the internet, watch videos, some HD, and do some light photo editing while on business trips.
Sorry, what expectations did I just mention will be met with disappointment? I don't need a desktop replacement, my Core 2 Duo E6400 is running just fine.
People who blindly buy computers without doing their research (I have read almost every page of this thread and came to the conclusion I wanted to wait for dual core) deserve to waste their money and be disappointed. I have no pity for them. The information is out there, it is up to them to use it. -
1410T with S3500 has met all my expectations just fine. It's definitely way faster than an atom and does everything I need it to do fine. I don't think anyone's ever mentioned that a 11.6" ultraportable notebook will ever replace a "desktop" computer
-
I have the 1410 with the SU3500. I really thought it would play YouTube videos in full screen mode (it doesn't) and was hoping to get more than 5hrs of runtime out of the battery (I'm not). So the SU3500 didn't quite meet my expectations in those two areas, but I still love it in. It's still way better than the netbooks I was looking at and I have no regrets.
I would think the SU2300 would get me a little closer to what I was looking for, but since I already have a SU3500 model, I'll take my time and make sure the new models have what I'm looking for.
Now can we move on? I think some of us are being a little too defensive. -
You can change the sensitivity of the touch pad. If you use Vista the driver is already installed for you. The threshold can be controlled quite nicely, but be careful because it has more levels than tab stops displayed in the control panel(8 maybe?). Make sure you drag the sensitivity control and don't just click to increase/decrease a whole tab-stop at a time.
-
lepton, I was wondering if you noticed if the processors is replaceable on the as1410 before i decide to disassemble my laptop. Did you noticed if the processor is sitting on a socket or is it soldered.... I greatly appreciate your help.
-
@forbitel
All CULV processors are soldered. -
Has anyone tested the actual CPU passmark on their new acer 1410 and 1810T(z) ? I got a CPU passmark score of 955 for the "AMD Athlon Neo X2 1.6 GHz dual-core processor L335" on my new HP Pavilion dm3-1030us with win 7 64 bit. Just want to know how those dual core SU4100 and SU7300 fared in cpu passmark test.
-
(Passmark Score, single & dual core, Vista 32bit):
AS1410(single)SU3500 = 490 points
AS1410(dual)SU2300 = 750 points
AS1810TZ(dual)SU4100 = 840 points
AS1810T(dual)SU7300 = 890 points
SU9400(dual) = 930 points -
It's not the touchpad or the keyboard, it's the computer itself. There are four rubber feet on the bottom of the computer, one under each corner. The front right corner sits about 1/8" above the surface. I double checked to make sure that the battery was secured properly, & all the panels on the bottom were screwed all the way in, and they are. I'm assuming that the case itself is warped or bent.
However, it flattens out if you put even a little pressure on it (which basically bends the case back into shape). So, I don't notice it when I'm typing and my wrists are resting on it. I think it's not quite annoying enough to return it; I'm just disappointed that it could arrive that way. I'm wondering whether leaving a few heavy books on top for a few days could flatten it out without smashing the lid? Alternately, I could affix something (like another small piece of rubber) to the rubber foot on the front right corner to make it level. -
DPRoberts,
Just so you know you aren't the only one who has seen this my 1410 had the same issue. You could even see the warping of the chassis. Putting a book or two on it for a day helped somewhat but didn't fix it entirely. Interestly enough my MSI Wind has a similar issue so I guess getting the plastics perfect isn't that easy.

I've been following this thread for forever, and have to completely agree.
Most people with a hundred replies in this thread can't seem to take a step back and keep things in perspective. You speak a lot of common sense, which is rare in this world.
