This appeared to be an issue with the stock Windows drivers (in Windows 7). Installed the realtek drivers and the crackling is gone, but annoying as use greater cpu.
-
There were discussions about worse battery life in XP mainly in the Timeline owners lounge thread IIRC. I wanted to give XP a go and install it before installing Win7, but I've only little time right now. After getting used to Vista I'm impressed with the good performance and think about not installing XP as a second OS and go for Ubuntu instead.
-
Could it be that you have the recording volume set to high so that the recordings are clipping? When recording digitally one can never go above the top limit, that causes distortion. Just a thought...
I haven't checked my mic yet. -
I'm about to buy the 1810TZ in a few weeks, and recently I've been quite unsure about it. So, the question is; is this laptop decent for school? (Carrying around all the time, and Office 2007) + some old school gaming (HL1, Deus Ex, etc.) + maybe some Photoshop and music editing (SoundBooth, Sonic 8)
And most important, because I'm extremely low on money; is there any good, solid alternative that gives me better "bang-for-buck" for the same money? I really want to get the best I can for meh money =/
Also, I'm a serious audiophile, so is the sound quality from the 3.5 jack any good? (Never gonna use the in-built speakers)
Thanks =) -
new audio driver is out in realtek site(2.36)
improved bass and less cpu usage even after enabling dolby........ -
I'm running Win7 on an AS1410and up until yesterday the sound was working fine. Today however Win7 reports that no audio device is present and opening the device manager shows no audio device at all, no conflicts or errors, just no device.
I haven't installed anything and my only guess is perhaps it is a hardware failure. Does anyone have any ideas or experiences with a similar issue?
Any ideas? -
I switched to Win7, and the power button doesn`t shut down the laptop anymore. It goes in sleeping mode, instead. In vista I was able to shut down from the power button. Is there any setting for that ?
-
Hi!
I would like to buy an Acer 1410 but I came from Hungary so the hungarian keyboard is really important for me -> mostly i'm focusing to these letters: "á" "ó" "ö" "ő" "ú" "ü" "ű" "í"
I would appreciate if somebody could check me the keyboard.
Thanks! -
In Vista the setting is in power options, should be similar in Win7.
-
Very quick in respons, as usual.
Thank you very much, der_mali ! Problem solved.
-
I have one and love it. I bought it as a backup machine for work (software development) and it's served very well.
As for "bang for the buck" I guess it depends on your definition of "bang for the buck." In terms of raw CPU power you can probably pick up a 1.8ghz Core 2 Duo fullsize laptop for a lot less... I'm not sure if that's something you need for running those audio apps.
But in the ultraportable space I didn't find anything with more bang for the buck than the 1410/1810. A Core 2 Solo/Duo CPU instead of an Atom, an HD-resolution screen, etc. are hard to beat.
Photoshop runs well; unless you're doing print-resolution graphics (8x10" @ 300dpi) I don't think you'll be wanting for horsepower.
And the sound jack works great! I was pleasantly surprised. No noise to speak of. -
RMA'd my 1810TZ after a couple of days due to the warped chassis...
-
Thanks for the input, and yeah I meant bang-for-buck in the 10-12" category =D
About, Photoshop ---> I'll be mostly using it to make desktop backgrounds (1280x1024, 1366×768) Do you have any idea if this laptop can hold up some audio software? (Audacity, SoundBooth, Sonic 8, etc)?
Last doubt: The battery life; I really need to get atleast 6-7 hours of Word 2007 usage for school (with wlan/bluetooth off)
Thanks -
The built-in speakers are mostly crap. Usable for system sounds and youtube clips, but not for film or music.
The Audio jack is great though. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound. And I am an audiophile too. Go to the settings for the sound card and switch off all "sound enhancements" as well as the Dolby surround and bass enhancements and then you are there. Using Dolby and bass enhancements might be great for film though, but not for music.
I do hear some digital noise very faintly as reported by some. And it is the only drawback. But as soon as the music kicks in it totally overpowers the noise and it is not audible. If you listen to classic music it might be a slight problem though in the faintest parts of music. But for my casual listening, no problems at all! -
I am using the 1410 solo for school.
As said previously, I mostly use Onenote and word (with wifi on) and some OCR with some photoshop on a side.
I easily 6.30 min of battery with some reminders at the end of the day.
I had a lenovo S10 netbook before, and this 11" laptop is way better.
Great for school notes and typing my classes all day!
A great buy and you could not go wrong.
You could also pick up another spare battery if you need more uptime. -
Alright, that clears up my issue with photoshop, but the battery life still bugs me, as I'm getting the more powerful SU4100 dual-core version. I'm guessing that I'll get the same time then, as I don't use wifi in school, but I really want some insight from someone who has the SU4100 =)
Thanks to everyone helping me make up my mind =D -
The 1810TZ w/the SU4100 (and T) also comes with a larger battery which Acer claims will last up to 8 hours verses the 6 hours they claim for the 1410.
-
Hi Guys,
After reading almost all pages...
I finally ordered the black AS1410/SU2300.
I got it brand new in ebay at 399.99 (free ship/no tax) and also got 8% bing cashback ($32)...it is pending but it is supposed to be applied in my paypal. -
Wow, Flash 10.1 REALLY helps things on my SU3500 1410. I'm thrilled that they're supporting the GMA4500. I can play everything HD I've found on youtube without skipping frames, unlike before. Hulu HD is still not 100% on everything, but then again neither is my c2d 2.0 GHz laptop! Very happy with the beta so far. Hopefully they can make it even better by the time it's officially released. More importantly, I hope that other companies will follow suit and offload more compute onto GPUs (Skype: I'm looking at you).
-
Great to hear. Was hoping that would be the case, haven't installed them yet. Anyone work out which acer web cam drivers we need for Win7 to improve performance of web cam over the Windows stock drivers?
-
So has anyone had any hands on with the new single core model, the celeron m 743?Any info out there how it compares to the su3500?the only info Iv found on it are a couple short reviews on newegg.
-
Here in the UK, the 743 is the only version of the 1410 we can get now. I have held off buying one, because I have seen no reviews and I can't help thinking that the SU2300 will replace it soon. Anyone, have views on this?
John -
The current PassMark scores:
743=521
SU3500 = 474 -
That result must be wrong. I suppose that the celeron result is from Win7 and the su3500 result from Vista.
-
Considering that the SU3500 was around before Windows 7, I suspect your right.
-
Aside from tweaks, how much more performance (passmark wise) does Win 7 have over Vista for identical systems? 5-10%?
-
The problem is, that PassMark doesn't reflect performance in this case. It's just a somehow broken benchmark now. There is a comparison of Vista vs. Win7 floating around somewhere on these boards. In some things Vista is even faster than Win7.
-
OK got the second one and this is warped too! Has nobody else seen this.. the bottom right leg is completely off the ground when the notebook is on a flat surface...
-
So what would be a good benchmark?
-
I don't know. Something widely used and free would be good.

I had this too, in my case I believe after opening the case to install the bluetooth module it was fixed. Try losening some screws and then fastening them again. Maybe it helps! -
Holy crapfest batman.... I just applied minimum pressure holding the laptop in the palms of my hand with my fingers spread as flush as possible across the keyboard, and it is now almost perfect...
..... is the notebook made of chocolate or something? When I said minimum pressure, I really meant it... -
Yeah, it's a bit wobbly. That's the price you have to pay for the slimness, I suppose.
-
+ 1 on that idea. After others brought the warped chassis up, I was thinking the same thing as you:
-
I don't know if it's been reported yet, but another new Bios appeared on Acer's site. 3303.
-
hey, i'm sorry not to have read the 344 pages. unfortunately, i couldn't manage to find sth suitable via the search engine.
i cannot adjust the display brightness with the cursor buttons. is there a solution (1810t, xp32, launchmanager installed) do switch to a _lower_ display brightness with more or less natural colours? when it's dark i can't see the keyboard because the screen is too bright. (this normal nvidia configuration tool doesn't allow me to lower the gamma and by doing that by brightness the picture looks aweful. -
To get the Fn+arrow key brightness thingy to work in XP, you need to flash to a newer BIOS version, check Timeline Tweaks. The BIOS can be obtained from Acer's site.
-
is vt enabled in 4810t?
-
Wow, long thread. Can someone tell me about the "proprietary" HDD connector on the 1410? Is it a difficult or risky procedure to replace the HDD? I've replaced them in many other laptops and netbooks but all the connectors were fairly standard SATA -- easy to disconnect and reconnect.
-
Thanks, der mali. I need to brush up on my search skills.
-
Be sure to check the link medinarafa posted in that thread.
-
Yes, I saw the video on that page. Looks like they were upgrading with an Intel SSD. I wish I could afford one of those!
-
i upgraded my 1810t with a Kingston SSDNow V 128GB notebook Edt.
i am really happy it !! and with the price ;o) ! AND with the new housing for the replaced HDD !!!
i was a bit afraid about the so called "stuttering" i'm working much with Visual Studio (writes many small files) but everything is fine
compiling a big project + winrar a big folder + torrent in backgroud -> i was still able to check emails without problems -
Newer ssd's don't have the stuttering problem anymore. I'm using Corsair SSD128gb
