Yes very quiet. Not as quiet as 751 which is almost impossible to hear.

But during normal work it's almost totally quiet.

I know, it's the Canon IXUS 40 that suddenly stops. I don't know why it does that, there's plenty of space.

    I'll up video 2 asap.

Phill, look instruction manual for the Ixus 40 ... there are some time recording limitations depending on format, fps and card memory size ...

and BTW, can you show o list how are rating other systems from the table of PassMark to have an idea of how the 1810T is performing ??, just for reference ... for the people like me that we are not familiar with the PassMark benchmarks !

Thank you for your feedback and effort !!

    Cheers

oh man! I can't wait for more info from Phil.

I don't know how you can do an unboxing video. If I had a nice computer like that, I would just stop it and skip all that warranty info and all the other junk in the box. You go so slowly with it too, I would be all crazy if I had been eagerly awaiting something like that!

    EDIT:
so it seems like the battery may not stick out at the back? from the pictures it looks like it could be flush.
I really like the blog, it keeps the real info seperate from all the questions we ask here.

Manual? I probably lost that 4 years ago :)

It's 512MB Kingston card which should be good for four minutes. But I can only use 1 minute. I tried reformatting the card but that didn't work.

If anyone has ideas let me know. Google didn't help me yet.

My old cannon used to do that. It has to do with the buffer. The older canons weren't able to write directly to the media with video.

So, it stored what ever it could to the buffer (ie. 1 minute) then stops recording. Then transfers the buffer to the card.

    Not much you can do...

I am quite new to making videos and reviews so constructive advice/comments are very welcome. Please rate the video on Youtube as well.

Thanks that helped! I now put it on 15fps and get much longer videos.

I'm uploading a 4 minute video at the moment.

Regarding 3D performance, there might be some room for improvement. The 1410 Celeron version got higher scores. 3.4 at Game 3D and something more than 4 at Aero in WEI IIRC. Maybe it can be improved with an other Intel driver.

Edit: Or try disabling Intel power management in the graphics adapter control panel.

Thanks :) Well I wouldn't exactly say "oomph" (bass), but they sound very nice considering the size of the laptop. They're a lot better than my 15" Asus A6G or Samsung NC10.

I would like to know too, but I don't know the clockgen.

Two downsides: the touchpad buttons are on the loud side, 1080p playback is smooth but with 100% CPU utlization (or I haven't found the right settings).

Try ICS9LPRS365BGLF, SLG505YC264BT(can be used for SLG8SP513VTR, uses registers that are undocumented in the datasheet) and RTM875T-587.
If SetFSB doesn't give an error when clicking on GetFSB and shows the right values on one of them it could be the right one.

    Edit:
Also 751h users had problems with some SetFSB versions, the version with -88 in the name worked(ICSLPRS365BGLF)

SLG505YC264BT seems to work, but when I slighty increase the upper slider the system becomes unstable. I can not open control panel anymore.

Neither SetFSB nor RMClock show an increased frequency.

Does decreasing FSB give a different result?

You should use CPU-Z for checking the frequency, it's the only one that is accurate.

    Edit:
Sorry I mixed up CPUID and CPU-Z, it's late. So CPU-Z is accurate!

    @Phil

Sometimes the PC doesn't like the way in which SetFSB changes things, but
if you have some experience with directly changing registers you could try SetFSB in diagnosis mode and look at the table in this datasheet on page 4
    http://www.silego.com/resources/pdf/xSLG8UM540r03_10232007.pdf
The Bus speed is 166MHz, right?
So register 14 bit6 to bit2 should be 00011(in the Bin field it would look like this:00001100 with all 8bits)
I would try lower values first like 144MHz that would be 11001(Bin field: 01100100)
When changing values you have to select the offset first, in this case 0Eh(14) change the binary value, click update and click apply.

    Edit:
One thing I forgot, bit 7 must be set to 1 to allow software clocking
Bit 0 and 1 could be set to 1 or 0 by default, it doesn't matter, it shouldn't be changed anyway, I mark them as X

    Default: 000011XX
    144MHz 111001XX
    172MHz 101011XX
    175MHz 110011XX

Very nice review Phil, thank you! :D

Have the official U.S models and prices been announced yet? If the SU3500 model really will be $450-500, it should be a big hit and I believe many may spend the little extra to get these instead of netbooks with the much higher performance increase.

I also hope the dual-core model will not be much more expensive, hopefully $100 more maximum.

If these models are quiet and do not run hot, I may replace my TZ with them, it is unacceptable that my Vaio TZ with an ultra low voltage processor runs hot enough on the bottom to burn my hand and loud even with web surfing or flash viewing.

So has anyone been able to confirm the 62.16 W 5600 mAh 6-cell Li-ion battery pack on the 1410? It looks like this is what the 1810T has based on review but it is possible that the 1410 has a smaller battery pack. I think I can live without the BT because of all of the cheap, tiny dongles especially at around $400 shipped. I'm not willing to wait another month for BT and a possible $550 price tag since I don't care about 3G. Someone on SlickDeals contacted an Acer Rep but I'm not sure who to e-mail.

    Passmark performance ratings:

    Acer 1810T - 358
    Acer 751 (Atom z520) - 165
    Asus 1000HE (Atom N270) - 235
    Sony TT (SU9300)- 360

MPC and Cyberlink. Tried CoreAVC and Cyberlink Codec. I'll be updating the review soon.

I think it may have to do with Vista.

I am guessing you are shocked because of how close the scores are between the Acer and Vaio yet the Acer is a fraction of the price? However, the Vaio has a dual core processor, does Passmark factor that into account?

Despite that, $450-500 is a great price for this Acer and I feel its almost too good to be true, it will definitely hurt the sale of some netbooks, some netbooks such as from Samsung are the exact same price as this Acer, why get them now? And with other netbooks, just pay $50-100 more and you get a much more capable ultraportable. There has to be a catch, aside from no Bluetooth.

Some of the tests in Passmark are multitasking.

The SU9300 CPU in the TT will outperform the SU3500 by quite a margin. But the 2.5" hard drive in the 1810T is a lot faster than the 1.8" drive in the TT, making the score equal again. ( I presume this is the reason)
