    Hey,
I just bought one of these from Ebuyer with the 160drive and 4gb ram.

I just noticed the left mouse click button is a lot "looser" than the right.. the right is quite sturdy and tough where as the left seems alittle soft... anyone elses like this?

The SU9600 has 3x the l2 cache and .4GHz more power than the SU2300.

For anyone that actually bought the Acer 1820PT, could you please check if the notebook comes with an open mini pci-e slot with 3G socket pre-wired? This notebook seems interesting, but I do want to know if they have a free mini pci-e slot open AND a 3G socket pre-wired (antenna exist) available so that I can plug in a mini-pci-e 3G +GPS card.....

    Thanks..

Good question. I am also interested in that. Acessories for the series seem to be quite easy to get,

I sort of was assuming that this was the case (as with the 1810-series).

Hummm... maybe this will light up things around here.

"HP has announced a new 12.1-inch EliteBook convertible tablet for the business-minded who feel the need for pens and capacitive multitouch displays at the same time.
Equipped with a stainless steel finish and magnesium casing, the EliteBook 2740p tablet PC will be available with either a Core i5 or Core i7 processor, a reinforced glass screen, and a touch interface that will also work with an included pen.

The 2740p (and its non-tablet sibling, the 2540p) also meet military standards for high temperatures, dust, vibration and altitude, like its tablet predecessor the 2730p. Built-in HP DriveGuard technology also builds some impact resistance into the design .At a starting weight of 3.8 pounds, the 2740p comes with a choice of two batteries..."

The 2740p tablet starts at $1599, while the EliteBook 2540p starts at $1099,
with both being available starting next month.

    Sound sweet indeed.
Though how do they compare to the TM2. since pricewise the 2540p and TM2 is pretty much the same thing.

I played around with a Fujitsu at Fry's the other day and it had kind of a matte touchscreen which means that smudges & fingerprints hardly show up on it - much better than the Acer's glossy screen (or a glass screen like the iPhone/iPad.)

I'm really wanting some sort of a tablet PC....was quite impressed with the accuracy & responsiveness of the Fujitsu too....

The processor should be much faster, though it also more power hungry. Like someone wise said: "There are no free lunches".

It should also be much more sturdy and resistant.

Though you are comparing a pro laptop price with a consumer tablet. I don't think people interested in the 2540 will be interestest in the TM2, or vice versa. You should compare the 2740 with the TM2 instead, and there there is quite a price diference (2x almost, wasn´t the US TM2 base price around 900$?).

What makes me look away from the 2740, besides the price, is the battery life (anyone know HP numbers?) and the lack of HDMI, which I'll use ocasionally.

If I need a powerful processor, than I'll either use my gaming laptop or my desktop (which btw also needs an update...)

Acer has definitely lost this race. The 1820 is still not available here. More than 4 months delay is simply not good enough in this competitve market.

"Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on, priced for 599 euros" on Engadget.
So does it have a capacitive or resistive touch screen?

correct me if I am wrong, but multitouch, which was shown in the video means u have to have a capacitive touchscreen which can recognize two fingers ( two inputs ) at the same time.

So I guess this has to be a capacitive display.

The fact that the 1820 PT was delayed a couple of times make it very unattractive, so I prefer the HP Tm2 ...

Resistive Touch screens that have had multitouch for a looooong time. Asus has had one out since mid 09, and are about to come out with their 10" Stantum has a 10 point resistive screen. Acer's has been proven to be resistive already (both by the 1420P given out at PDC and 1820TZ's that have been bought in Singapore). Engadget is not exactly quality reporting, he probably just went off of responsiveness, which the screen is very much.

I've been lurking this thread for a few weeks now and I figured I might as well ask the pros. Is there anything else that is like the 1420/1820 (i.e. Non-Atom based, dual core, Integrated 4500MHD, tablet, under 12in) that is out and is priced under the $800 mark? The TM2 is obviously close but other than that everything seems either incredibly expensive, atom based (read: slow), or is not out yet. Based on some comments I've read (like above just as an example) it makes me think theres something else out there like this little beast. Maybe I'm just not digging in deep enough of theres a world out there of fast small awesome tablets I'm missing?

    Thanks for any insight!

Nothing as in you personally don't know of anything, or there are no options at all that exist & meet those criteria?

How are those two answers different =P. What you don't know, doesn't exist.

And there does sort of exist tablets that fit those criteria, but only in the same price range if you're willing to buy refurb/used. All the previous gen business tablet PCs used ULV processors that are basically the same power or a little bit faster than the SU7300 CULV. These would be the HP 2730P (no touch, but has a digitizer), Dell XT2 (n-trig....) and Lenovo x200t.

You trade off touch for digitizer in some of these models, meaning you can't touch the screen with your hand but you can write on in it with a special pen. Some models have both, but can be crazy expensive. But even if you buy used/refurb, build quality will be far beyond the 1420/1820p, which has already shown itself to be lackluster IMO.

I have to admit that I expected more to happen in this market - CES was quite dissapointing. As far as I know, there isn't yet a world of "fast small awesome tablets" out there...yet.

But the TM2 has several advantages for a relatively small difference in price. So it is a clear winner vs 1820, and probably the first of the relatively cheap "fast small awesome tablets". And this was Acer aim with 1820.
I'm quite sure most of the people that initiated and contributed to this thread have bought the TM2.

    Keep searching...keep waiting...

How are they late? There's only 1 other CULV Tablet even available.

But at the pace they're going, those capactive models won't be out until 2011.

1825PT, 1825PTZ coming to UK in April. And these models have replaced the 1820's, no word on the 1420's.

I about peed myself when I read the 1825PT/Z news. I will continue to wet myself if they keep the $600/$700 price model (I think that was the previously assumed prices?) but this gives me cause for concern it will be more. The 1420 and 1820's were capacitive as well right? Color me excited.

Keep in mind these machines still need more horsepower to be slick. Perhaps an i7um?
I've played with the 1420p (SU2300) here in Taipei.
Delayed response just does not make a convertible that will be embraced by the masses.
And the childish Acer touch interface... could not do better myself,
but useless beyond the first few days of showing it off.
    Someday soon....

So which will you be getting the 1830T or one of these?

And will you be adding an x25-m SSD, to make up for poor HDD 4K read/write speeds?

No 1830T here, tablet or bust imo. I'll either be replacing the HDD with a 7200 HDD or getting a SSD. On that note, for those of you who have an SDD, do the SSD's make a big enough difference for the price on these slower CPU netbooks?

Also I wanted to say that those of you who have waited till Oct/Nov for one of these things, I salute you. I've been waiting for like 2 months and I'm dieing for a release date.

I am drawn more to the 1830t. Like the slimmer profile, lighter weight, and the Core i5 processor with DDR3 ram. As much as I want a tablet, I don't want to buy one with an old processor and a heavier weight than my 3810t. And I have my 160GB Intel G2 ready to go inside the 1830t and my 3810t is ready to be put up for sale.

    Nice video.. ..
this 1825pt is definitely more responsive than the 1420p units I've experienced.
Still the response delay is often noticeable in the video.

I am still waiting for the 1820pt I ordered last year, still no ETA!

To me it looks like the only new thing about the 1825pt is the capacitive touch screen and a smaller hd. At this point I don't even know why Asus would bother to release the 1820pt at all. But at least they should start shipping something!

The energy efficient i5-520UM processors running on the HM57 chipset would be a more logical upgrade if Acer still have a TimeToMarket of 6+ months.

Well I'm too weak willed. I'm taking the plunge on the TM2T for $1k. I had never noticed its ability to switch between the dedicated ATI card and the 4500 and thats what sold me. Why don't more laptops have that??? Its been fun. Good luck to the rest of you who are waiting.

I'm considering buying the Asus t101MT.
Although it only has a 10 inch screen and a resolution of 1024 * 600, an atom N450, it is of pretty solid build quality and it is available for 450 € in Germany.

Will it prove usable, what's your thought on this?

I'm really tired and annoyed of waiting for nearly 6 months for the Acer since it was announced.

You might get annoyed with the N450's lack of power. I had an EEE 901 and it struggled to do browse the web and play a song from a media player at the same time (but that might have been due to the slow ssd it used). Also the screen resolution, I could never go back to that.

Agreed with the poster above. I had an Acer 751 and that thing singlehandedly turned me off of the Atom processor.

I'm just about ready to get an iPad and use the Teamviewer app to access any of my PCs remotely when the native iPad apps won't accomplish what I need.

Teamviewer is amazing; check it out: http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx

Works quite well over a 3G connection, VERY well over wifi.

The 1820 has a resistive rouchscreen whereas the 1825 has a capacitive one (and mine was delivered without a stylus).

There is no stylus included with the 1825, and there is not room for one like in the 1820-series?
