Hope you're right ! ;-)
I contacted yesterday a shop in Barcelona, they told me that it will be available next december the first (or slightly before), and the price will be 579 euros (SU4100 3gb 320gb) all taxes included.
The 1810T with SU4100 is sold at 499 euros in some shops here, so the difference COULD be aprox. 75-100 euros
-
No mention of the 1820PT Tablet.
BTW... I waiting too, but I can pick a Tablet up
in Taiwan or China, if it shows up there first.
(at a higher price, of course)
I'm still hoping USA by Christmas. -
But december 1st? That's a long time. -
There is no announcement on when this product will actually release but should come out before the end of the year is what I'm guessing. -
Well..here is an 1820PT listing with part number -732G25MN at retailing.com
Who knows how to convert the $1,466 price? -
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=1466+AUD+to+USD&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
$1466 AUD = $1318 USD. Doesn't make sense ! -
for $1150 AUD. That machine costs around $550 in the US.
Using the same proportion would make the 1820PT = $701 US. -
I'll say, go get the 1410 now, sell the 1410 when the 1420p/1820p comes out if you don't have a laptop
lol
-
1420p/1820p suppose to be using a dual core Intel Celeron isn't it? -
All tablets are dual core, 1420 is the celeron su2300, 1820ptz is the pentium su4100, and 1820pt is core 2 duo, even the su2300 handles hd youtube and can play 2 1080p mkv videos at the same time, the other ones are a bit better, the su7300 based on what asus did to it if you overclock it from 1.3ghz to 1.733 ghz it's pc something( can't remmember benchmark, check anandtech) go from 2500 to 3300.
-
I'm quite sure all the webtalk about an SU3500 tablet started
from the initial singular leak at Macles on October 7th.
All that was said is that the 1820P tech specs would be the same,
which was assumed to be the SU3500. I sat back and watched
this simple information explode on the web in the days that followed. -
Anyway, the PT is mine. 8GB RAM? Hell yeah.
The price is getting a bit scary though. Over 800$? Not sure I'm willing to go that high.

The link here shows Availability and ETA as 8 days. Is it reliable info ?
-
like me.
-
From here:
, but hopefully that doesn't mean December 24th...
-
I will be buying the 1820PT as soon as it comes out, provided it doesn't cost more than $700 canadian.
-
$600-700? That's awesome (and where I predicted)! My credit card is in-hand...
-
That price range makes the either the 1420P or 1820PT an instant buy for me

@andershizzle:
you are right, but this information has already been posted shortly after release. The link of the Acer Australia site with the same content has been posted on the first page of this thread - but it doesn't seem to work anymore.
Tobi -
1 NZ = 0.7185 USD.
Since the link is from NZ website, wouldn't that translate to $879 * 0.7185 = $624 USD ? -
Well something is going on at "Acer Touch"
The Acer Touch-Site now has two models listed - disappointingly none of them is the 1820pt- And i sooo wanted to "Touch an Acer today"
Tobi -
hmm, now its back to "models coming soon" (in both cases it was for the US) - strange.
-
Yeah that is weird. I'm tired of all these waiting games.
First the Acer Aspire 751h came out, but I decided not to get it because I figured they would eventually have a more powerful version.
And I was right, the 1410 came out. But I decided to wait until the infamous dual core timeline version came to the US (the 1810TZ).
Then I realized the 1810T in the US will actually be the most powerful version so I waited for it.
Shortly before that was released I realized they were making a touch screen version of it so I started waiting for it.
And now I found this out:
http://www.liliputing.com/2009/11/a...ight-and-low-power-laptops-in-early-2010.html
Guess I'm waiting till 2010 now.
My current laptop (Acer Aspire 5050) doesn't even work anymore... or at least the Keyboard and touchpad no longer respond on it. But wait some more I shall. I will continue to use a USB mouse and virtual on screen keyboard to type in my class that requires a laptop... Thank God for paper and pen note taking and a custom built Desktop at home where I can get real work done. -
If it's about the arrandale processors, they will be stronger but not my much, and they won't have better battery, for a bigger price, I say buy the tablet now since the price is good and skip next year's genreration. -
Yeah they are referring about the arrandale processors.
When acer said they arrent satisfied with culv they meant the core 2 solo su3500 not these new dual core ones. Arrandale processors have about the same power but when pluged in they can turbo 1( just 1) of the cores from 1.2ghz to 2.26ghz, and they have integrated gpu that is slightly better than the 4500. So you get basically the same for more cash next year (when it comes to portability). But around summer arrandales with switchable nvidia gpus should become maintream, meaning when your on battery your using just the integrated gpu with no turbo for long battery, and when you plug in you go turbo and use the discrete graphics to get great processing power.
The thing is that these dual core ones selling right now are finally good enough and are cheap, that's why I think it's a good time to buy now. -

Sort of surprised to see this... from the industry site DigiTimes.
"From the technology perspective, Windows 7's touchscreen capabilities are currently unable to provide significant value in terms of usage on notebooks and netbooks, while sales of tablet PCs have also not seen any dramatic growth since the launch of the software, leaving large-size all-in-one PCs as the only PC segment to benefit from the technology so far... " -
Actually, Windows 7's touchscreen capabilities are currently unavailable because of just that...they are currently unavailable. Release these tablets Acer!
-
And now the only thing that shows promise is the elusive holy grail we are waiting from ACER. -
Yea...the tablets I've experienced in shops seem so clunky and so expensive.
The 1820P holds great promise.
BTW, the new Macintosh 10.7" Tablet is rumored
for a January 19th release.
Some interesting ammunition for the 1820P alternative here. -
November 2nd at TechWorld
The Acer Aspire 1820PT will sell for US$600 to $700
"Acer showed off two of its newest products on Friday, and said they'd be on global markets soon. The Acer Aspire 1820PT, a small, thin laptop with an 11.6-inch touchscreen that can swivel and fold down over the keyboard... a tablet PC, will cost between US $600 and $700 and be out in time for Christmas, an Acer representative said."
Also, the Acer 1810PT has reappeared on Acer's US website. -
In time for Christmas means sometime in November, right?
-
-
hey guys,
just a few q's
does anybody have any idea what digitizer the 1820 has? whether its resistive or capacitive? active/passive? is it the same n-trig digitizer that the hp tx2 has?
its multitouch, but how many points? mainly technology wise...like can the digitizer support up to 10 points? i'm not worried about the software/driver's limitations.
I just found out about this laptop and it looks perfect, especially since ill be able to buy it around christmas. but there seems to be a huge lack of specific details about the touchscreen. like is it pressure sensitive with the pen? the acer site isn't too specific about the laptop, which I find weird, since its coming out relatively soon. and I find it even weirder that its not on the acer US site
thanks, and i know thats alot of questions lol
cya -
Short answer is we don't know, If you have time to read through the pages you will understand more.
As an educated guess I say 2 point ressistive touch screen with no pressure sensitivity in the pen. If they had more than that I doubt they wouldn't have advertized it. -
ah k...hmm thats a shame, the pen sensitivity and more than 2 point recognition would have been nice, and i can see the pen sensitivity as being a big deal breaker for alot of people. I was crossing my fingers that the acer is going to use the stantum resistive technology

Here's a review of the Acer Timeline 1820PT. It's in Spanish though.
They mention a starting price of 599 going up to 750.
-
It sounds like they like it, but it does worry me a bit that they only got a little over 4 hours of battery life, even though it is quoted at "over 8." I understand testing is sometimes heavy usage, but that much?
-
Translated link
They don't really seem specific about the touch screen experience, just light mentions that it works well and has multi-gesture, but they mention a need for calibration and oversensitiveness of the screen.
The main cons seem to be cheap finish, expected from consumer level notebooks, and lack of killer apps for touch use, which is a given for any tablet really. So all in all good news for the 1820pt
@djspray they say 'heavy usage' in this review, I'm not sure if that's consistent with the test they run in their MacBook review, WiFi browsing Web pages, work with a word processor and a movie H.264 in the background. But if it is, that's pretty intense. Their MacBook manages to get 4 hours and 21 minutes where as the same notebook gets 5:10 minutes in Laptopmag's review. -
Read it. No mention to how many touch points or pressure sensitivity, I can't believe it's that hard for people to check this in Paint. You just open it and swipe all your fingers over the screen and see what happens.
-
Do we know if this tablet has an accelerometer so that just by turning it, it changes to portrait mode? I couldn't make it out from the translated review.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
It would be terrible if this only gets 4-5 hours. Thats not much more than the TX2 which has a dvd drive, larger screen, power hungrier DDR2 ram, and a less efficient AMD processor.
-
Agreed. I was hoping for 5+ on heavy usage and around 7 for basic tasking. Would have helped if we knew how they're testing it.
-
The battery will not be much less than the 1810pt with the 5600mah battery, Under the same test the tx2 would last 2 hrs and a bit with the 8 cell battery, unless it was underclocked/undervolted.
