It is getting REALLY hard to wait on this when you can get an HP TX2Z with specs below for less than $900. Argh. Convince me to hold out...

    # Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    # AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-85 (2.3GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
    # 6GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    # 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    # ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics with 64MB Display Cache Memory
    # 12.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED Widescreen (1280x800) with Integrated Touch-screen
    # LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    # Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Reaction)
    # Wireless-G Card with Bluetooth
    # HP Color Matching Keyboard
    # 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Ok, ok, 1820pt will have higher resolution, better battery life and be over a half pound lighter, but will it ever come out?!

Here in japan you can't buy the tx2z for less than 1200$ with those specs.
the tx2 has pressure sensitivity and 4 point touch recognition thx to the n-trig digitizer, if tweaked aka undervolted it's a great deal and probably a better machine as long as u don't mind trading battery( weight wise, you can take out the dvd drive).
The problem is that the tx2z's hardware should soon ( i don't know when) be updated with the 45nm amd procs and hd4200 someting card, in which case you have to play the waiting game in either acer or hp case.

The Asus T91MT has a ressistive multitouch screen, and guess what, IT HAS pressure sensitivity with palm rejection.

If Asus did it on an atom powered netvertibile, I see no reason for Acer not to do it.

In the Spanish review? It really seems like they're just quoting Acer's claimed battery life, not stating what they got themselves. They do for sure say they get 4 'long hours' under 'heavy' use, we just don't know exactly what that means.

And as for the tx2z, I would never bank on HP to deliver a good user experience despite a good specs sheet. Like almost every other consumer level laptop HP makes, the tx2z has heat and battery life problems. Based on user reviews, anyone who gives it a good one really seems to be settling on these issues and just makes the laptop seem second rate

A review has been released for the Asus T91MT

Surprisingly it does not have pressure sensitivity or palm rejection. Atleast not by default, whether or not there will be some mod or tweak that will make it that way, will have to be seen. The screen is simply just 2 point multi-touch. This, combined with the smaller screen size(8.9), slower processor 1.33ghz Atom and internal unremovable battery make the netbook really unappealing.

Not to mention false advertising from Asus.

On the same note, I really hope Acer's has palm rejection, I find it hard to believe that inking isn't a priority for touch screen convertibles already...I want practical use from a touch screen not just
something that's fun to play with.

EDIT: Turns out there is palm rejection! The same person who did the review found settings that activates palm rejection, but only for 2 programs. Here's hoping that Acer has at least that munch functionality.

Fake prices? hhmm... I found quite a few such sites  One even had an ETA of 8 days :D

Are we sure the $600-700 isn't just for the low end spec, and the $1300-$1500 isn't for the high end spec with the 7300?

My first intuition is that they are wrong, I don't know how they would charge $600-700 more for specs that are less than $200 more in the 1410/1810 series. I'm fine with the lower spec'd 1420p, as long as it is released before next year and has the bigger battery. Come 'on Acer, tick, tick, tick...

If this is 799.00 for the SU7300 it will probably be a sale here. One thing I'd love to see is a backlit keyboard option but I highly doubt it........

The practicality of this tablet is actually quite important to me. If the touch screen is only good for playing around with pictures then I might as well get a standard laptop.

I hope writing and drawing is somewhat possible on it. Will be using it for note taking.

Come on, where are the in-depth reviews?

Ditto... I hope to be able to have contracts signed. Is that practical on a device in this price range?

    Hi,

I hope the price will be really up to 750 euros for the PT version...and that it comes out soon.

I am definitely not an Acer fan, but there aren't any other options on the market (or announced) with these specs for this price - just the brother Packard Bell Butterfly Touch. Both looks really good on paper, but I am still waiting for a detailed review before I decide to buy it.

The touch screen means that it can also be also used as a large PMP for long (plane) trips and as a photo auxiliary (storage, slideshow under travel). It would though be great if it had a fast loading Linux based OS with a few basic multimedia features only, such as video, music, photos...besides Windows 7.

Well if that's the case, I hate the wait, but it may get a version with even better specs by then. After all that is the same time frame Acer said they'd be coming out with better processors in the Timeline series, and this is the only device we know of in the Timeline series to be coming out then (according to this guy's post anyways) at this point.

It is also already listed in the Acer danish site:
    http://www.acer.dk/acer/product.do?...ngedAlts=&kcond48e.c2att101=-1&CRC=2759084358

    Though not in the portuguese...
    http://www.acer.pt/acer/product.do?...ngedAlts=&kcond48e.c2att101=-1&CRC=2759084358

I hope this means that they area actually updating according to where it will come first, and not just adding it to the list all over Europe for example.

    Hurry up Acer!

What about the Packard Bell Butterfly Touch? Any thoughts? Any bad/good experiences with Packard Bell? Here in Denmark it is sometimes seen as a "design" brand (more prestigeful than Acer), but I read some very bad stuff about their products. Though, it has now been bought by Acer...which does not mean that they are making better products...

WOW, I was watching Microsoft's Professional Dev Conference (PDC09) in LA via streaming this morning and Steven Sinofsky ANNOUNCED THAT EVERYONE WOULD RECEIVE A FREE "what sure looked like" an Acer 1820PZ ... TODAY!

There are over 5,000 people at PDC ... so that sure looks like we should see the Acer 1820 PZ ... VERY SOON!

    Anyone know for sure?

Looks like it, but it's the 1420p - more details here

Specs and users guide to the special version they received here

Looks like it does adjust landscape vs. portrait depending on how you hold it. Awesome news! I'm very hopeful for this product now, since it was seemingly co-developed with Microsoft to incorporate the Windows 7 touch features.

My theory is that Acer has been holding off on US release so that M$ could be the big shot with their "exclusive limited edition", and is now free to release it to the rest of us in time for Thanksgiving's Black Firiday ;)

YES YES, it has surface contact to simulate pressure like the T91MT, look at the onenote picture at the bottom of the T from the ONENOTE he wrote. He did a 180 turn and the tip is pointy(meaning WE GOT PRESSURE BABY). You have to zoom in like hell to see it btw

Yea.. and although these are 1420p models are special non-retail versions,
I'm encouraged by the inclusion of 3G.

"The Aspire 1420P also sports Mobile Broadband. With Windows 7, using Mobile Broadband is easier than ever before. Windows 7 will automatically detect if a Mobile Broadband connection is available (after inserting your SIM card).

You can choose to connect to the Mobile Broadband connection where you will be required enter subscription details from your mobile carrier. No need to mess with 3rd party Mobile Broadband connection utilities."

I bought an Acer Tablet in 2001 and it was state-of-the-art at the time ... then the Acer CEO "for some reason" DROPPED ALL future Tablet PC dev.

This could mean that Microsoft and Acer have kissed and mad up ... and might re-ignite the Tablet PC lineup.

The 1420p is the Celeron SOLO version ... but WHAT A SET OF SPECS ... including HDMI on a frigging Tablet PC!

Take that HP with you 1 year old Tablet PC techology ...

I don't know where you got the celeron SOLO thing, but it clearly says everywhere that it comes with the su2300 which is dual core. the single core that is no longer in production was the su2700, and another 1 that is in production is the celeron 743( I think that's the number) but the acer tablet doesn't come with either of them.

And I completly agree on the HP part. + insert lenovo and fujitsuu with their extremely overpriced tablets

You should also check if local legislation recognizes electronic signatures obtained in such a manner.

As for "overpriced" Lenovo and Fujitsu tablets, you get a lot for what you pay for, particularly with Fujitsu.

Well not recently , atleast here in Toyko. The new fujitsu tablet called the t51mt which is the same as the t4430 i think, has one of the crappyest plastic I ever did touch , plus software is certainly filled with bugs, and it has the 2.2 ghz solo celeron in it, all for the price of around 1200$ at the cheapest. and the Lenovo x200t with simillar specs to this acer tablet and windows 7 is around 2500$

You are most likely correct - I read somewhere about Celeron as single core and the specs on the Acer site are not specific but usually when it's dual core, it says dual core like in the 1820PZ ... I can't beloieve that Microsoft didn't get a special config for that many units.

Man, this will cadapult Acer back into the Tablet PC fold - I will buy several the day they are available!!

This move was a masterful PR move on Microsoft's part - THIS WAS NOT ACER is my guess - just look at all of the NON CONVERTIBLE laptops on the market with Windows 7 and multi-touch.

Have you ever tried holding your hand up to a wobbly screen - how long do you think that excitement will last ... versus a SIMPLE "CONVERTIBLE" that does BOTH!

BRILLIANT ... just wish I had gone to PDC but didn't for budget reasons!

A quick few comments from a developer here.

Sounds like he likes the screen other than the digitizer being fairly "primitive." None on eBay yet, I guess that's a good sign.

All procs consume the same amount of power except for the su3500 which is no longer in production ,as such will not be coming with the tablet. The most expensive and slightly more powerful su7300 has an SLFM mode which when
in power saving mode and using very little proc power will save a bit more energy , but not by much.

Erm, doesn't multitouch in non-convertibles usually refer to the touchpad, rather than a touchscreen?

That's odd. The T1010/T5010 and older models that I handled were built very decently. I think you mean 4310 as the 4410 is not available with a single core celeron. The Fujitsu is about $1100+ with a C2D in the states. As for the X200t, pricing is highly dependent on the country of purchase. It would appear that the same applies to the X200t. Lenovo tends to be much more highly priced outsides the States in general though.

Well yeah, but it's quite ironic that Fujitsu a japanese company is selling crappier and more expensive stuff in japan than in the states.

As for the non convertible multitouch , he's reffering to those normal laptops with touchscreens put over their displays. Lenovo and Acer are selling a few of em as we speak.
