You are right. Good that they finally made it with call of pripyat. i launched it today and got some solid 20fps even on max details with aa x8 set in ccc. Thats great because these pixelated edges hurt my eyes :D

    Hi!

I've being testing with my HDD Caddy and I made some advances.

I realized that our bios sucks and it doesn't recognise the caddy. Since sata is a Hotplug port you can plug the caddy once you are in Windows, so you can make the system work with 2 Hard Disk.

I Tried to flash the PB bios that was posted in the bios thread and I broke my computer reflashing back the original BIOS, now my computer is being fixed in Acer's SAT hehe.

I will try to reflash the bios and make some other test once I have my laptop back.

All I want for this computer is a bios working nativelly with 2 hard disks, thasts an easy thing for Acer to do....

Hello, I've been searching for an online shop that sells this laptop.
"Acer Aspire 5740G-6979" Should be the same as in first post.

Maybe anyone of you knows a shop where i could buy it? That ships to Europe.

    Thanks.

Latvia, also buying a laptop here wouldn't be the best idea, since it would cost 50% more then abroad..

It's pretty hard to get one of these- you could still buy one in Poland which should be close enough if they agree to ship to you.
    AS5740G-434G32MN i5-430M/4096/320/DVD-RW/7HP64

That would cost you some 660 Euro (VAT included).

    Greets,
If you are intrested in buying one in Poland you could try search here Sk?piec.pl :: Porównanie cen w 1700 sklepach internetowych and when you pick the notebook and shop in which they got the notebook you might try to ask if they ship abroad.

Anyways, like 6 days ago I bought Acer Aspire 5740g ( Acer AS5740G-434G32MN i5-430M/4096/320/DVD-RW/7HP64 - Notebook / Laptop 15,6" - Sklep komputerowy - X-KOM.PL) and I saw on forum that there is some battery/bios issue so I went to check my bios version and it is 1.22. As I see it can be downloaded from Acer homepage and I am wondering why it isn't posted here (in the second post). Any issues with that bios or is it kinda new so it wasn't put in here yet?

    Hello everybody !
Is there a way to automatically switch the engine and memory settings in AMD GPU clock tool when i'm switching the power plans ?
And also, what clocks would you recommend to use in Balanced plan ?

Hello. I have problem with my keyboard on my aspire 5740G. When I play FIFA and press up arrow+left arrow+D at once my laptop didn't recognize the "D" key. I've searched over internet and found that this bug is called ghost keyboard or something like that. So i want to ask is there any solution for this problem?

Not that I know of- several users have complained about this and I've posted an almost-complete list of not working key combinations but I don't think it can be changed or improved in any way.

My score with my usual OC 670/900 is P1210 and it seems valid as in rendered in proper resolution.
That said- what I see on the screen is probably re-scaled to 720x768 although rendered properly by the GPU- otherwise my score would have been a lot better.
You have to admit it looks dreadful :D

Unfortunately there isn't.All keyboards i have used Desktop, laptop or other have some key combinations that don't work. The interesting part is that a combination that doesn't work on keyboard A works on keyboard B,but combination not working on keyboard B works on keyboard A.So you just have to get used to it.

It is not a bug. It is a weakness of the standard/normal keyboard. To overcome this, you need keyboard with anti-ghosting capability. Usually anti-ghosting feature only available on gaming keyboard. I never heard or don't know any notebook which come with anti-ghosting keyboard. What you can do is use a desktop gaming keyboard with anti-ghosting feature. Usually there are two types of anti-ghosting keyboard; 1) limited combination of anti-ghosting keys (usually WASD) & 2) full anti-ghosting keyboard like Microsoft’s SideWinder X4.

I use Razer Arctosa. It provided partial anti-ghosting keys (W-A-S-D).

I'm relying on my memory (read sclerosis ;) ) now but I think it's up to 100 hours. You should use it moderately for ~8h or so and then let it cool down (as in switch off the notebook) for several hours.

    To whom it may concern,

My cousin owns an Acer 5740 Laptop. Several questions for you guys,

1: Can you swap out the screen for an 1920x1080?
2: Can you put an higher graphic card in it?
3: Does anyone know where to buy an optical Blu Ray Player for this model?

Thanks for the the timely answers.

    1. I don't know- Full HD are double LVDS (I think it's the right abbreviation) so it may not be easy to use Full HD screen on 5740G

    2. No- it's soldiered into the mobo. Overclocking is the best he can do.

    3. I see quite a few Blu-ray slim drivers on e-bay. That shouldn't be a problem although I imagine it wouldn't make much sense without a Full HD screen, would it?

    Thanks for the info. :)

I don't think there is an official fix to remove the PC beep.

There are temporary fixes like using an older Realtek driver or Windows default sound driver, but they aren't perfect and are missing some important features.

    hello again

i have a problem...when running on battery,i don't get notified for low battery.it notifies me only when i get in 5 %,saves the progress, and shut down, propably destroying my battery.also, there is the possibility (i am not sure about this, gonna check it out and report back soon) that it goes from 12-13 % to 5 % by skipping all the other numbers .

    any ideas?

in the past few days i've spent some time with the notebook
i've the strong feeling that, using windows 7, acer epower management utility is totally useless.
with moderate/mixed usage (wi-fi web browsing, office tasks) battery life is the same when epower is installed and when it isn't....

i just don't know how it happened, but after messing quite a lot with drivers (mainly realtek and ati ones) it "went away".
which is not very nice, as i find it quite useful :)

I've just checked and you can get rid of it as long as you have the slider for PC Beep in Levels, the slider doesn't do much but the mute button kills the beep. If you don't have the slider just read how to get it on page 1 I think - it's definately in the thread, but once you have the reg entry it will stay even if you update the drivers.

PS What max OC frequencies have you guys achieved? Mine went through 3DMark with 700/950 score P1264. The core could go higher possibly but the bottleneck is the memory (firm max level) so there isn't any point in trying.

PPS sykrot, once you put the paste in by the time you have loaded the laptop and tested it you should know whether there is a difference.

my theory is confirmed.till 11 % everything works great.when i reach 10%, it rapidly goes to 5% and shuts down.

is this a bios problem?or the battery faulty?

MLAA is not real AA- it's a post processing filter so it's much less demanding compared non normal AA. I can't enable it though- no such option in official drivers and modded ones don't work (the checkbox is there but it enables normal AA instead of MLAA)

Yeah Launch Manager - didn't know the name.

Downloaded it and cannot install "Launch Manager is unable to install because the system is not supported." (I have Win7 Pro x64) I can launch it and it apear in process list however no images are displayed after pressing hotkeys so I guess it is not working.

    EDIT:
    @re down:
    Already did that ;)
