That's because v4 is not supported on 5740G- install this one.

Yes i have it too.I notice it on greyish colors(or at least on some grey nuances). When i play with catalyst brightness and contrast it is reduced, but at some levels it affects white colors also.So you will have to play a bit with brightness and contrast.

I don´t know if this is happening to any of you guys but I´m starting to hear a noise coming from the CPU, it comes and goes everynow and then. It´s like a high pitch noise.

Oh by the way, has any of you applied Artic Silver 5 to the CPU and GPU? I hear great things about it and some not that great...

I haven't used AS5 on 5740G but I have on many other computers (including notebooks) and I always was happy with it.
Can't say it's the best compound but it's the best compromise- liquid metal for example is better but it’s also more expensive, hellishly hard to apply and can't have contact with aluminum (it kinda melts it)
Arctic Silver is reasonably cheap, easy to apply and clean off and off course it's a good thermal conductor.
Contrary to what people say it doesn’t conduct electricity so it's reasonably safe to apply- unless you're really messy withy it ;)

Yes- I usually use an old credit card for the first swipe and then a sheet of paper to fine tune it (credit card is too thick for me).
I'm actually too good at this- you often hear how putting too much compound is bad- the problem is I can make the layer so thin that the moment I touch it with a radiator it "breaks" somewhere- so I needed to actually take a step back and do it slightly less precise so the layer of compound is thick enough to make it undamaged through the process of mounting the heatsink

I removed stock compound and added AS5 last week ( on CPU and GPU ).
Played GTA IV over hour and max temperature on CPU was 83' celsius... Before it was over 100' celsius.. :D

    Mobile Catalyst 10.12

    Win7 64bit
    Win7 32bit

    EDIT:
It doesn't have the new CCC that desktop version is supposed to have. MLAA still not supported.
If that's what Terry Mekadon calls "huge" than I don't wanna know what would he mean by "minor improvements" ;)

no mlaa so not really worth installing. Any better results in benchmarks? Maybe these improvements are only for 6xxx users

Oh yeah- improvements in benchmarks are huge too. ;)
3DMark11 used to be P1210 but now it's P1133 which is over 6% less.

EDIT: I've had AA enabled in Fallout 3 with Cats 10.11- good performance and no problems. With Cats 10.12 FRAPS meter looks like MLAA is on however fps is cut in half compared to Cats 10.11 with normal AA.
I've had this driver installed for 15 min and I'm done with it- back to 10.11

These 10.12 are really bad. I am playing FEAR 1 currently in which I got minimum 24 fps (stock settings) with 10.12 during the performance testing.
But when I switched back to 10.11 I got min. 28 fps.
May be we could get something better in drivers when mobility 6xxx comes out in Jan. but I highly doubt it.

I get only P1010 result on 3D Mark with all default settings with the new driver. I haven't tested with the old ones though...
Why does my card only show a core clock of 100 MHz and 150 MHz memory??
It's supposed to be core 550 and memory clock 750MHz??

    Result

Reran the test with cat 10.11...score = 1009...
reran the test with cat 10.11 and uninstalled ATI Stream SDK v2...score = P1018
I don't think I will need the ATI stream sdk anyways...

Wow Synaptics is so cheap they didn't bother to get a WHQL Driver Certification.
    Observations:
    -Mostly Major Interface changes
-Tap Zone is buggy, reverting to HP Drivers...

Yesterday, i saw a samsung laptop at a showroom with memory rating in wei as 7.1...I was shocked because it had core i5 (not i7 which is compatible with faster memory-1333MHz) ... I want to upgrade my RAM.....Can someone tell me which one is compatible with the 5740g? Currently mine has 4 GB 1066MHz from Elpida....with memory rating 5.9.....

I can't understand why people use WEi as reference  Do you know how this score is calculated?
One thing- you can't get above 5.9 if you have less than 4GB RAM and in 5740G 4GB means usable 3.86GB.
You can upgrade to 6GB or 8GB and your WEI score will improve and that's about it because you won't see any improvement in speed unless you already max out on your 4GB setup.
Anyway- you can buy whatever So-DIMM DDR3 1066MHz you like and 1333MHz too however these will work @1066MHz too.

Em,guys, need help: I installed the new 10.12 ati drivers, totally not happy with them, need to go to 10.11-problem is I didn't get the chance to install them in the first place(shame on me), so now I can't find Ati Mobility 10.11 anywhere-anyone has any idea where I can find and download them? I have downloaded the Normal Ati 10.11-not the mobility ones, but I'd rather have the mobility-after all I am using a laptop. Could you please tell me website or link me a page from where I can download them? Thanks :)

One more question: I have currently uninstalled all drivers, But I am still running my Screen Resolution at 1366x768- what drivers am I using now? (when I try to install any new drivers, be it 10.12 or 10.6 and I click on Uninstall, it says that there are no drivers to be found.

Thanks for the heads up Firestorm10.
I added the official Intel download site to the second post of the thread.

I've added a warning about performance issues with Cats 10.12 to the update post and reposted links to Cats 10.11 with recommendation to stick with those for now.

Dexter! I just want to update my SATA driver only. I don't want to install that Intel RST app that appears at startup as its delaying the startup process. The HDD keeps on cruching something & makes loud noises till the icon becomes green. Is it better to leave this RST app or is it better to keep it to perform some necessary functions?
Should updating the drivers through the device manager from the f6 drivers be fine?

    @ subrotobasu
Being lazy I usually go for normal setup and then just prevent a service and/or process from running via control panel (for services) of msconfig/Spybot S&D (for processes).
I did this with the previous versions so I didn't even notice the delay at startup.
BTW- what's with adding processes to startup- every software manufacturer wants to add some. If it wasn't for disabling them I would have 70 processes running

    @ chadaus
According to a service manual the fan on 5738 should be off if the CPU is below 45*C.
If you’re not far from this threshold you may want to consider applying high quality thermal compound (provided that simple fact of cleaning the vents with canned air doesn’t help)

hi! I downloaded the f6 sata drivers and installed the new ver. from the device manager after uninstalling the previous driver alongwith that RST thing.
Now everything seems fine and the startup time has reduced considerably but still I have 85 processes running.
I read somewhere that RST app is beneficial to install only when you have several drives connected to your system or you are using RAID.

It depends on a game or rather on an engine the game uses- sometimes disabling Catalyst AI or VSYNC helps but other times it works fine until you do that. So unfortunately there's no right way of doing it- you're gonna have to change certain settings whenever you run into problems.

My warranty ends on febuary 10th. I was wondering if I am able to extend the warranty during my warranty period, because it says MUST REGISTER SERVICE CONTRACT WITH AN ACER COMPUTER WITHIN 15 DAYS OF PURCHASE OF THE ACER COMPUTER which is pretty damn ambiguous when I'm trying to purchase an extension.

    Thanks for the help

Where I live it has to be extended within first 15 days of ownership- at least that's what they told me when I bought it.
Luckily EU grants me 2 year warranty.

SetFSB doesn't support this clock generator, not even the newest one: ICS9LRS3197AKLFT

Is that really 5740g's clock gen?

Btw, 5.1 surround through receiver works perfectly with an normal rca-connector.

Crisis disk should work- someone here already used this.
New mono would be an overkill- it would be wiser to send it back to Acer and pay them for resurrecting it.

They want me to pay 700€. And I tried the crisis disk but it is not working, I tried it with 3 different USB drives and all I got was nothing.

I'm not sure what to do, I followed all the crisis disk steps 1 by 1 and It didn't work. Is there any other way to do that? I don't want to lose a 800€ computer.

Wow- 700€! For what? You could buy a whole new notebook for that money :(
Make sure that after you've built the crisis disk there's actually something on it, also try releasing Fn+Esc a bit later and a bit sooner that you did.
Make sure the battery is inserted while attempting to flash.

I tried all that things, I have a really bad luck. How much memory should the usb drive have to perfem a correct bios flash?

600€ mainboard and 60€ for repairing it, 660€ the whole thing. All I would like to know is: does that Crisis disk can fail in a concrete mainboard? I dont know what to do, I feel like losing 800€.., this sucks.
