    Thanks for the fast answer...
I have some problem with all the two procedure...
I've downloaded the latest version shareware of SetFSB, i request the serial key and i try to set my BUS value to 139 by small steps, but if i set the bus on 139.2, the computer freeze immediatly... Why? Do you have any solution?
For the GPU, i try to make a search on google, and the AMD GPU Clock Tool that i downloaded don't work on my pc... Now i try with the version that SUSTMI link now...

Why no one told me the CPU OC works?
    You people are evil ;)
Anyone checked if it works with Core i5?
(just asking I'm not interested in CPU OC)

The link version of AMD GPU Clock Tool now work on my pc...

    Two question...

1)With AMD GPU Clock Tool can i decide the fan speed of my ATI RADEON HD 5470? Do a program exist to manage the fan speed?

2)Someone, like Vovik MC, can try to explain me how set my BUS on 155 MHz with SETFSB? What particular procedure have i to follow to reach those results??? I try increasing BUS by small steps, but my PC freeze when i set 139,2 MHz...

Nope- fan speed can't be changed plus it's not a fan for HD5470- there's one system fan cooling a radiator that is used by both CPU and GPU.
To change the speed or temperatures that trigger certain RPM you'd have to modify BIOS.

alex_27_91, And I think, as I have a GPU accelerated only up to 705 \ 955, while the other 800 \ 1000. It all depends on the specific model laptop. I think in your case, you can play with memory: try with a strap to disperse, to change the slots ... Your card is being chased by bad-sense from overclocking will not.

I'm really interested about OCing the cpu.
Downloads, could you please make a guide or tell us how to do?
And what about overvolting the GPU? How's that going?
    Thanks.

As for OCing the CPU- sorry I can't.
I didn't pay for SetFSB nor do I intend to so I can't test that.

Weird things follow- if you take a look at 3820TG owners lounge- these guys have managed to OC the CPU with no problems however they get lower FPS while gaming with OCed CPU than without it.
It's not a single case so it seems to be a general issue although it may be 3820TG specific.

From my point of view OCing the CPU is useless because in no game (including GTA IV) had I achieved 100% CPU load so that's not limiting me.

Anyway- if someone is willing to write a small guide for this with screenshots and a short explanation- please do it in a separate post so it can be later linked to. If no one is interested- head to 3820TG lounge and try to find relevant posts there (9K posts in a thread  )

GPU overvolting is a bit risky and we have no one willing to test such modified BIOS. My best estimate is June as I work on this laptop and I got so much work to do I'm not gonna be able to clean my desk before June arrives.
I can't brick my laptop before I'm done with all those projects (8 of them  )

Thanks downloads, I do understand you, paying for an overclocking program is quite rubbish.
As for the modded bios take your time, you've been extremely helpful with your guides\tests ecc..

I've got another question regarding catalyst's drivers, do you recommend installing the 11.11a hotfix?
Thanks again and have some +rep!

If I remember correctly official Cats 11.1 are to be released on Wednesday.
Apparently a lot of goodies there including MLAA support for HD5xxx and improved performance.
I'm not quite sure if you meant 10.11a or 11.1 but I'd wait till Wednesday anyhow.

I really hope about improved performance though and MLAA too.

This isn't really on topic, but...

My biggest gripe about this laptop is the low resolution of the display. If I could change anything, I would get a larger resolution screen. But for now, I found this nifty little hack (for windows. I'll try to reproduce it in Ubuntu and report later.)

    HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\Fonts\LogPixels
Set it to 4c (76 decimal) and you will get a little bit of more "resolution" due to windows automatically adjusting all fonts to be about 80% their normal size.

I know it's not a real "fix" but it helps a little.

I have the exact same problem as you did (been following it) and Acer support is being a biatch. I would like to talk to you a bit more if you would be kind to answer me some simple questions (add me on msn or mail me to [email protected] or leave a contact - can't pm you here).

I would post my experience here hoping it helps some1 out.

On a side note, i had a 5740g with the i7 and was a really happy user!

cyberbit, аlready done so - nothing happened. The program does not work properly with the import - hangs.
alex_27_91, try moving the memory modules in some places or experiment with only one module.

Post what's inside SMART tab in HDTune.
Software that gives you green/yellow/red is not good enough as it ignore certain parameters until they have reached the threshold.

Yes- it's perfect. I don't mean within threshold or anything like that- perfect.
It's remotely possible that something may be wrong without SMART showing it but you would hear a whining sound which you haven't heard before.

Just to be on the safe side monitor SMART status for a week or so.
Since you've uploaded this screenshot you have something to compare it- if anything important changes you can start panicking ;) But it most likely won’t.

Does anyone know if this hdd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=22-136-555&SortField=0&SummaryType=1&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1#scrollFullInfo (Western Digital VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600GB 10000) is compatible with the default hdd internal slot. I'm curious because i know that sometimes there is a 500gb limit on some bays and this is 600gb. Also thats the second problem I ordered this optical bay for the 2nd hdd Discount 2nd SATA Hard Drive Bay Caddy For HP/Acer/BenQ Laptop and it appears that for sure it has a 500gb cap. I'm wanting to get 2 new hdd's. They dont necessarily have to be the same hdd's but I have been debating between the 600GB VelociRaptor, the 500gb Seagate Momentus XT or 500gb seagate 7200.4. Anyone have any suggestions. I'm worried that the optical drive caddy wont be able to perform the proper cooling or stability of the vibrations.. i dont know if these are legitimate concerns.. This caddy looks to me like more of a quality one unfortunately i didnt see this before i bought the other one 2nd Hard Drive Caddy Adapter TS-L633 TS-L633B TS-L633C

I'm thinking of putting the veliciraptor in the main slot where i would run the os and the seagate 7200.4 in the 2nd optical bay which would be for pro tools and backing up media, etc.

    Hi,
Is it possible that 'Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR' could be changed to 'Bluetooth 3.0' just by updating the drivers. The latest drivers, i.e. 6.3.0.6700 seems to do so. Can anybody having BT confirm this?

What's the exact BT module you have?
I've recently bought a smartphone that uses BT v3 but I have no BT module in my 5740G as I had no need for it prior to this purchase.
If the driver update ups the whole thing to v3 than I'd like to buy the same module that you guys have.

My bad. I could blame it one being up too late last night fretting over this or I could blame it on just being stupid. haha. But seriously I still want to know which would be better the seagate momentus xt or the momentus 7200.4 or the Western Digital VelociRaptor WD4500BLHX 450GB 10000 RPM?
I have never done this before and dont want to run into bios problems or caddy problems for the 2nd hdd. and if i do i want to be prepared for what i need to do like if i need to upgrade bios, etc..

also alot of these newer hdd's have transfer speeds of SATA 6.0Gb/s. Is that something our notebook can do or does it cap off at 3.0GB/s. Does anyone have a spec sheet on this mobo so i can study it.

SATA speed doesn't matter- these drives are way too slow to need more bandwidth anyway.

Western Digital VelociRaptor WD4500BLHX is not a notebook drive either- it's 2.5" that's true but that is a server drive. Apart from the fact that it’s ridiculously loud, it will vibrate as a blender and drain battery in no time- that's assuming it will work at all.

Could you please check your cars in GTA ELC, if you have the same?

PS: I updated it with 11-1_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc version and now the puncture bug fixed.

RE: drive limits. The only real drive limit is usually that some of the biggest drives will be the 12.5mm thick format and most all laptops take only the 9mm drives. But currently the only drives that are 12.5mm thick are the 1TB ones anyway.

All the 500/640/750 drives out now are 9mm drives and should fit fine. I just picked up a 500G 7200RPM hitachi travelstar and it's quite speedy in my little Toshiba T235D.

Do you guys have MLAA option in CCC?
Cause I don't but then again I’ve messed with this option quite a bit trying to mod drivers a while ago and the result was that I had MLAA enabled no matter what I did in all drivers since 10.11
