What driver version are you using? Can anyone else confirm?[/QUOTE]

I am using realtek R260 (Version 6.0.1.6363). Have been using it for quite some time now. But the beep stopped after I updated my BIOS yesterday, so i guess BIOS can controll the system sounds.

Damn! now that i listened carefully, the beep is still there but the volume is very very low. :?

    Hi there.
i have been reding this thread for some time but just now i decided to register.
After reading that the new bios disables the sound beep i went ahead and updated in windows. it gave me some error and didnt flashed. i saw in cpu z that the bios didnt change. but today after having to restart because of some update the pc is not booting anymore.
the screen stays black and doesnt even show the bios screen, nothing.
searching on the internet i realized that my bios get corrupted. i tried some methodes but i didnt had sucess yet.
Does anyone know how to flash it again?
    i tryed this:
Porsche, Puns and PCs: Acer TravelMate 5740G BIOS Recovery
Undocumented INSYDE BIOS recovery method.-Use andy's tool to obtain possible names..

Can please someone help? i still have warranty but im in the exams period and i cant loose all the data from the pc and stay without it for a month.

    thanks in advance.

I didn't check the TravelMate 5740 but the other link is for Insyde BIOS while Aspire 5740G is Phoenix BIOS.

Here's the crisis disk with 1.22 BIOS and here are instructions on what to do.

    Good luck.

:( Tried updating to the newest 11.5 drivers from ati. Started the program and uinstalled. Restarted notebook and installed drivers. I get some type of error saying "ccc is not supported by driver enable your amd adapter." It was way longer than that, but i did not save the message. Uninstalled catylist control panel under remove programs. Went to device manager and uninstalled the display.

Restarted and installed again, now I get "No AMD graphics driver is installed. or the amd driver is not fuctioning properly. Please install the amd driver appopriate for your amd hardware."

    I downloaded 11-5_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc

My system restore was turned way down, so it does not help.

Under device manager, the display is listed as standard vga graphics adapter. When I try updating the driver it says it is updated. I tried looking for the .inf for manual install, but can't find it.

edit: For some reason the ati download was not installing the driver folder. Got it fixed by using a link from another site.

same config here and same behaviour; but i think it is caused by the drivers.

i updated to 1.28 quite as soon as the upgrade became available, but the beep went away only when updating sound drivers (on a fresh install).

moreover, if you (dis)connect the cable before the os loads, the beep is still audible.

I think the heatsink do not have proper contact with the CPU heat spreader. OR the thermal compound you're using is not properly applied OR already degraded. Are you using DDR3-1066 memory module?

My idle temperatures were in the mid 90s (*C) so I finally got around to ordering some thermal paste. The only thing keeping me from the heatsink at the moment are these connectors:

In my old laptop you simply pulled them out, but they aren't budging in this one. What am I doing wrong?

you have to pull hard these connectors, perhaps with two screwdrivers will be easier to disconnect.

Thanks. I eventually was able to get it disconnected. My fingers by that time were pretty raw from prying open the case. My temperatures are now under control (CPU: 40*C and GPU: 52*C idle, ~65*C 100% load). There appeared to be very little thermal paste left when I removed the heatsink, and the fact that I removed about a half golf ball of dust from the fan wasn't helping.

    Hello,

I have an Acer 5740G-434G50Mn and I'd have a couple of curiosities.
Firstly, a question to the people that have disassembled the device already, are the connectors for the Bluetooth module and the USB connections the same on the motherboard? I am asking because I hate having to push the bluetooth button at every startup (I have a bluetooth mouse, so I need it) and I thought I'd rather sacrifice a usb port and have the bluetooth always on when the device is on. If there is an easier way to always enable BT at startup without having to press that button, I'd appreciate any tip on this.

Then a couple of questions about upgrading, did anyone try to put 1333Mhz RAM in their device? I found a deal for 1333Mhz RAM cheaper than 1066Mhz RAM, and I'd find it pretty cool if that would work. Also, did anyone try to put a i7 processor in? I see that the i7 640M has the same socket and the same TDP, it would be nice if that one would work (not sure where I can see if it's supported in the BIOS).

Edit: Nevermind the RAM question, I just noticed that the i5 430M does only support 800/1066Mhz RAM, so the only way to get better RAM to work I guess would be by installing a processor that supports higher frequency RAM.

Nice! Did you install that 720QM on the 5740G? Did it work without any customizations (like modded BIOS or something)?

Edit: Also, since you disassembled it already, are the motherboard connectors for the bluetooth module and the USB connectors the same? You think I could switch the bluetooth module with a USB connector around to have bluetooth always on?

RAM those whas in nb (1066) works with this cpu on different timing(6-7-7-21) but same frequency. Now I have P1358 points in 3Dmark11.

    Hello,
I've got a little request for you. Could you run DPC Latency Checker DPC Latency Checker on your machines and tell me if you too have high latency spikes every 30-60 seconds?
According to this article ( Guru3D.com Forums - View Single Post - AMD Catalyst Von modded) it creates some microstuttering in games. But that microstuttering in my case is really annoying and can be seen especially playing Bad Company 2 (maximum latency is around 6000 microseconds).

How about posting BIOS mod request to kizwan to add option for turning off HPET?

    Heeeya everybody,
Just writing after Laptop's harddisc drive went rogue and...well...broke down, lol.
Turned out that there were too many bad sectors for it to work properly, so I shipped it and sent it to Acer's repair centre here in the UK. The guys were kind enough to change it with a proper hard disc drive, and I think they must have cleaned the laptop too.

And now I am happy :D

Laptop reached 80 C MAX after 2 hours of intensive Battlefield Bad Company 2. (Most settings on high, of course, + MSAAx2). Also have to tell you that there were no, NUO, zero stutters/ fps drops/ problems of any kind...well, I had lag at some point, but that was cause I had issues with the Net, lol.

Anyway, thanks again fro your help. Apparently a good cleaning was all that laptop needed. All the stutters might have been caused by the HardDisc Drive as well. I had to use quietHDD in order to remove APM, so that I wouldn't get the occasional freezes. Funny enough, this hard disc i am with now, which is again 640 GB (I gotta check for the model tho, not 100% if it is absolutely the same), not only does it not cause my laptop to stutter/fps drop, but also don't cause these freezes(Thank God). So for now I really don't think I need to be running the quietHDD.

Again, thanks for your collective help and support. Keep up the thread!
    Cheers! :p

Lol, I just posted my post above when I saw another Bad Company 2 fan, so I really had to write something :p

Can you please explain to me what "kind" of stuttering you have, as I appear to be quite experienced with these things, unfortunately...

If you are talking about BIG FREEZES, for like anything between 1.5-6 seconds, then it is the HDD, and quietHDD is your program to fix the thing (see fromt page of the forum).

If you are talking about a quite big fps drop, which causes your entire game to slow like hell for anything between 1-9 seconds (still playable), then check your temperature and CPU Usage. If your temp is too high, you might wanna clean your machine (that I learned first hand). High CPU usage miight be related to temp, not to sure, but if your laptop overheats then a game like BC2, which appears to be really high-cpu consuming, will run a lot worse.

If you, on the other hand, are talking about some microstutters, which are more like a "frame-skip", well...
I kinda learned to live with it. One of the things I had to learn from the beginning is that "nothing runs perfectly". If you are talking about this one, I know what you mean. You will see this not only in BFBC2, but also WoW, sometimes (really rarely, but still) in some of Valve's Games: Team fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 1/2, and also pretty much every intense multiplayer related game (Single Player games seem to be coping better, not saying that there aren't such problems, one of the things that comes to my mind is GTA 4.

There is one last possibility. You are talking about a Bfbc2 version from the net. This I had a serious problem with as well. Whenever I was running it appeared that I was moving at irregular intervals. I think that DICE have patched that in a later version. I bought Bfbc2 on a steam discount, after installing the game I no longer have this problem in the Single Player.

Oke, so pretty much that's it what I can tell you. I will try to run the progrem you referred to in the morning, it's too late here now, so sorry, but the comment is really all i can do atm. Do tell (that refers to others that might test the program) what happens after you run the test. I read about the HPET in a steam forum, there was a long post about tweaking BFBC2 to get the maximum performance and it was indeed mentioned that turning this thing off somehow improves the game.

I really WISH it was so simple xD. Beside the fact that I have some kind of Hitachi 250GB HDD, it's performing quite well and haven't experienced any serious problems like that. The only one BIG FREEZE occurs just before first spawn in BC2, but I guess it's common.

Yesterday I did something called "burn-in" on my OC'ed GPU and max temperature I had was 70 C. What's more, the overall temp. of laptop's cover doesn't indicate on anything related to overheating.

Hell yeah, I hate GTA4 for that. I have to play on almost lowest details to prevent that frame skipping. The stuttering in BC2 I'm talking about (I have original digital version bought using EA store) occurs sometimes in the middle of hard fight and sometimes when having sun-tan on the edge of the map. It's a HUGE fps drop (to 20 FPS) every 60-90 seconds lasting 2-5 seconds or less. What's more annoying, when I stand still GPU sometimes renders 50-60 FPS, but start moving and it drops to 30-40, sometimes 20.

The only thing I can think of is my CPU (I have only i3-330M :/) OR some misbehaving driver in my system causing that huge DPC latency which in turn creates 6ms (!!!) lag in almost every I/O signal processed by the CPU. As you can see in the attachment, the lag sometimes lasts for 3 seconds. Also the mean latency is in my opinion too high. What I've found out so far is that the huge spikes are created by Wi-Fi card (Atheros driver, 100% sure it's Wi-Fi, how sad...), but something still gives me 1.1-2.0 ms as an extra gift...

PS. I play BC2 on LOWEST POSSIBLE DETAILS! Is that game really so demanding?
And sry for my, so called, "bad english", haven't used it for a long time :p

EDIT: I've just finished my simultaneus CPU & GPU stress-testing. Max temperatures were: 79C CPU and 78 GPU (HD5650 @ 675/1000). The case got really hot xD. So, it's a good news for me, overheating problem excluded from check-list.

EDIT2: I've just remembered a nice trick to turn off "the beep" when plugging in power cord - simply use Windows default drivers. They work well, have the same functionality in properties tab and you get rid of "beep"

EDIT3: Hey there, is this forum dead or what?! Holidays? xD

have you tried using the settings.ini file and changing directx rendering from 11 to 10 or 9?
also use the latest hdmi sound drivers, the latest physx and use the realtek sound driver not the windows one.games perform better if using the newest sound drivers and hdmi drivers.also download the latest 11.5 ccc drivers. keep shadows to minimum and ssao off. also keep aa off. turn on triple buffering for all fps games through the ccc.

In settings.ini file everything related to graphics is turned OFF (shadows etc...) or set to lowest details.

As far as I know, Frostbite 1.5 was designed fo DX10 and DX11. The DX9 mode is only for those who still use Windows XP and havent yet transitioned to Vista or Seven. DX9 is just an alternative path for rendering and is not as efficient as the main rendering path. The DX11 mode is made for softening the shadows and is also using some optimizations for better performance.

Because HD5650 fully supports DX11 I see no point in changing rendering mode. Yes, I've already tried it and FPS counter hit the highest number in DX11 mode.

HDMI sound drivers are used only when sending audio over HDMI and they have no influence on Realtek Audio card. What's more, I have HDMI audio device completly turned off in Device Manager and updating these drivers is pointless.

Frostbite is a physics engine on his own and is not using any part of Nvidia Physx software (nor Hardware).

I was experimenting some time with Realtek drivers and I can tell you that windows drivers have exactly the same functionality and performance as Realtek's (I was also playing BC2 with both drivers - no difference). In addition they do not produce the annoying sound when connecting or disconnecting the power cord.

I have also additional sound card integrated in my USB headphones. Since I dont need any of the integrated sound chip, both ATI HDMI and Realtek are turned off in Device Manager.

    ... how about 11.5b? xD

To summarize: from now on I expect more professional answers from you . :)

But these are my fps config oc 750/1080 on BBC2 high, the heart of darkness (catalyst 11.6):
    dx9-(average) 93
    dx10-66
    DX11-54
Disables the saving of energy or check your settings in windows and catalyst control center.
remove the battery from the notebook.
ALL makes default Catalyst Control Center options
maybe your hard drive is a blue scorpio does not perform well for games and the screen freezes in some games, or using quiet hdd western digital tool, change the sleep time to the maximum head ... or change for black scorpio hdd
check the programs running in the background, and have the computer as clean as possible ...
    try a 3d 2006 and compare results.

WOW! So, is there any possibility of enchancments for hd5650?

@starsay: thanks for suggestions, will do the check and post results...
It's strange - majority of services are turned off (basing on some tweak-guides), no antivirus in background, redundant devices turned off, no laggy internet connection and still have to search for the bug that causes problems...

EDIT: 3DMark06 score (no O/C, Catalyst 11.6, current configuration): 7033, this is bad :/
I think that there is sth. wrong with new video drivers, had problems in installing them (no inf file found, warnings and other bulls**t). Will run tommorow more test on older drivers.

EDIT2: OK, you are going to LOL... Installer cant detect my gpu chip :/. It's producing a warning after installation: Other device detected. WT* is wrong? I am using Driver Sweeper and CCleaner always before updating drivers.

EDIT3: O/C'ed GPU (675/1000), reinstalled Catalyst 11.6 (still with warning), much better
All benchmarks were run on default CCC settings, except the Mipmapping changed to "quality" instead of "high quality".
Frame skipping occured with v-sync turned off.

    EDIT4:
Ok, time for some BC2 tests:
O/C'ed GPU, forced V-Sync and triple buffering in CCC
Low quality settings + texture quality set to medium
No AA, AF, HBAO or anything else.
DX11, Arica Port: avg 25-40 FPS
    DX9: little better, 30-45
Game stutters when moving mouse in all cases.

How did you manage to OC so hard?! :wow: Everytime I set my GPU frequency over 675MHz it causes Kombustor test to crash ("error: memory cannot be read").
And another question is: do you have i5 or i3, just like me.

it runs fine in my system without oc.

i told you about the sound driver part because i personally experienced a 5% performance improvement( microstuttering stops) when i updated my old hdmi driver. dx11 rendering not only softens smoke but it mainly brings some realism to the "textures" in the form of geometry and objects sticking out which frankly speaking are barely noticeable. and as far as dx 11 being a better render mode, i highly doubt it coz i think its pretty badly optimized causing big drops in fps.for eg try playing dragon age 2 in dx9 mode. barely any visual difference apart from ambient occlusion but so much better performance that i dont need to oc at all...

one more thing. you could try to turn off the vsync ingame menu and force it on using d3doverider software. smoother gameplay in most games

try 650/900 is a safe rate for a higher overclock you have to modify the values of the motherboard and is dangerous.

Thanks for all your help, but I've tried everything you mentioned about and my notebook is still performing little worse than yours. Maybe it's the CPU that causes the FPS drops in BFBC2, but on the other hand I've seen many movies on youtube presenting BC2 on high details running on exactly the same model of 5740G as mine.

EDIT: After a little of research I've found modded Atheros drivers with some fixes and enabled extra options in Device Manager.

They are little old, but by using these drivers my DPC Latency was cut down by 50%.

You can still try to reduce it by changing Roaming Policy to Low or Very Low, and turning off Background Scan

I try to update to new 11.6 video drivers, but I can't. I receive a message that the video card is not supported. Someone else have any problems ? Any comments ?

EDIT: I download them again and now I install it successfully. I didn't try them yet.... don't have time.

With that hardware Fifa 2011 should be a piece of cake ... there must be something wrong ... try to check the GPU & CPU usage during the game & the heat output

the game runs fine. but during replays and cut scenes it simply sucks. i've checked on google. many people do have that problem but some dont. gpu temperature doesnt cross 76 deg whereas in ther games lik cod it hits 85 degree (max tmp). if any of you play the game on this config can you confirm this
