That's the way those drivers are written. If you don't like this behaviour, you can try installing latest drivers from Atheros and run some DPC latency tests, maybe they have already fixed that.

Hi all. In few days I expect one i7-720QM. I have some question about it. What about the heat from the CPU compared with the one I have i5-430M ? For the power consumption I know it's more than the i5. Also in games - who is better, or there is no difference ? Thanks !
-
, in bfbc 2 with i5 430m all cores was fully loaded and with i7 720qm it takes 50-60%
i have to buy better thermal compound now i have 100ºC when its 30% load :/ (tjmax=100ºC) so it cool itself with underclocking, etc, i also have 1333 memory and latency is half against 1066. I can make some benchmarks, tell me what you want to see
-
@scud_svk Can you feel some improvements in games and working with 5-6 programs at one time ? I believe you aren't fix the cooler properly. I have 5400 rpm disk drive and 1066 Mhz memory. I also order an Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal compound. Can you check with Hardware Monitor how many Watts is taken the processor in idle and in full load ? Thanks
-
The only game I know can utilize 4 cores of quad core processor is Crysis. Most games do not utilize 4 cores, so the game performance is similar whether you have i5 or i7 (quad core). There are many applications that can utilize 4 cores but I only know one; 3D Studio MAX.

I'm not surprised by that result- remember that Core i5 has TDP of 35W and that includes integrated graphics which is disabled on 5740G.
TDP of Core i5 without integrated graphics is said to be 27W, so in essence you're upping it by up to 18W which produces dramatic results.
Also do expect the temperature of the GPU to go up as both are connected to the same heatsink which has certain thermal capacity you may be exceeding.
I would go for Core i7 620/640M if I were you. -
It's OK. If it's very hot I'll sell it, but I have to try quad core, if you know what I think....
EDIT: @scud_svk - Did you try reinstall the cooling again or you leave it like in the first fit of the i7-720qm ? I mean, when you see this high temperatures, did you try to fix again the cooler ? -

what would be the safest and best software for overclocking 5650/?
-
AMD GPU Clock Tool.... have you try it ?
-
As for the voltmeter to disperse card 5650: when editing videobios with Radeon BIOS editor in the fields of voltage values are available only 0.9V and 1.0V. And if the handles fit 1.05V or 1.1V, the chipset will run on such voltage? bios Phenix.

i use amd gpu clock tool. but sometimes t causes weird behaviour of ccc. even when ive returned clock to normal it sometimes causes weird freezing of my computer and when display goes off pc gets stuck like that -
Try MSI Afterburner, but you need to use not the last version and also edit the settings file in the install folder with ''1'' in the enable unofficial over-clocking field. I hope you understand me.

i got my aspire right now for almost 15 monhs now and it's still fantastic. as solution for the missing bluetooth i replaced the wi-fi-modul with an industry-modul from delock (delock 95894) with n-wifi (150 mbit/s) and a bluetooth 3.0 combination. it workes fretty good and personally i would say mi wifi-conection is much stronger...
well, i got a question concerning the intel 310 series ssd. it seems to have mpcie-interface and a 80gb ssd as systemvolume would be a smoothy choice because i could keep my harddisk as storage for music, movies etc and could use the ssd as systemdisk.
but i'm not quite sure if the laptop could boot from a harddisk connected to a mini pcie-slot. also i'm not sure if the disk itself would work, some say that their might ocure troubles about the interface or something like that (ssd's might not correspond to standardlayout of mini-pcie).
so my question is if anyone knows if the intel 310 series ssd would work in the aspire and/or if it's a bootable drive, if it works?
if the intel ssd doesn't work, does anyone know a working ssd with mini pcie interface? -
I've had my Aspire 5740G for almost a year, and decided to take it apart to repaste the CPU & GPU with Artic Silver and blow out the fan since I was experiencing some heating issues while gaming.
When I turned the thing back on I get a white screen on my LCD. Hooking it up via HDMI, I confirmed it was the LCD itself, and more specifically, I'm thinking it's the LVDS connector + cable since I've adjusted it a little before when it came loose (white screen happened then too). I've done all the adjusting I can short of taking the LCD apart (which I really don't want to do, but it looks like I will have to).
Where could I get another LVDS cable or LVDS connector?
Arghh.. I've got another problem now. My battery is inserted but the battery indicator says "33% available, plugged in not charging".
How in the hell do I get it to charge. Also, due to this, it's giving me the 0x4D0 error when trying to update to 1.28 BIOS version.
UPDATE: disassembled the LCD and reconnected it to no avail. I checked out the LVDS connector on the motherboard, and it does indeed have some very bent pins. Does anyone know where I can get another one of these other than scrapping one from another laptop? My LVDS cable seems to be okay, but the connector on the end of it might be messed up too, I have no idea. The connector looks fine, but also could be missing some pins since I don't know what slots had pins and what slots didn't.
Laptop works fine with HDMI and montior, battery issue is still bugging me, I'm clueless on it. I've tried unistalling the ACI Compliant Battery via Device Manager to no avail. I'm going to try another AC adapter that's within specs of my laptop to see if it's the adapter. Laptop powers on fine, and runs fine off AC, just will not charge battery. Battery was working perfect before I opened it up. Who knows.
If you have any idea on what's going on, I'd much appreciate it. -
Hi, my indicator for sound is missing. ( The little bars on middle of screen that go up or down if u press volume up or down)
Is there anyway to get this back? -
-
Maybe it's something strictly battery related or...
Was the battery inserted when you took apart your laptop? If so, there is a high possibility that you did short circuit somewhere on the mobo (in the area of battery connector) and burnt 2/3 of the cells in your battery (fuses?)
Experts please confirm my concerns. -
However, does anyone know where I can get the connector that is attached to the motherboard that connects to the LVDS Cable? I've looked everywhere online and can't find it anywhere, I'm going to give Acer a call, but I doubt I'll have much luck with that. -
Reinstalling worked. Thank you for help.
I have been getting latency issues when gaming and decided to reinstall my wireless atheros driver, but i aciddentally clicked on delete software from computer also. How would i get my wifi back? Appreciate the help, thanks -

Someone played Crysis 2 with DX11 on ATI 5650? is it playable?

Hi, anyone know if it is possible to get a better battery for this notebook? I have a 6 cell battery, it wouldnt be too bad to get a better one like a 9 cell battery or something like that.

Nice 3DMark score scud_svk although not an easy one to draw conclusions from.
On one hand 3DMark06 is CPU dependent so it probably helps a lot- on the other hand CPU score is 2900 which is not insanely high.
Could you post a 3DMark11 score? It's not only more up-to-date by today's standards but also doesn't seem to be CPU dependent. -
That is typical i7-720QM score. Because it running in low clock speed while running the benchmark.

The problem I have with OC'ing my GPU is that it produces artifacts in MSI Kombustor fur-test when ticking faster than 675MHz, although it's PERFECTLY stable on this frequency. Would raising the voltage allow us to push it little further? Also, will the benefits be satisfactory enough to risk? -
It would but it doesn't work for some reason. Neither BIOS mods nor using software (Sapphire TriXX) worked on 5740G
DRIVER UPDATE: Catalyst 11.6 is out & second post of the thread got updated accordingly. -
try to overclock only memory to 1050mhz and stress your gpu
-
so is there any way to reduce artifacts (5650) , 630 Mhz (core) is threshold and it's very sad =(
-
None core is same as another, so im lucky in this.

3DMark11 score P1244 (670/900)
Comparison of the individual benchmarks shows that your advantage is due to PhysicsTest where I scored 8fps and you scored 12fps -
I had P1300 in 3dmark11 with i5 430m (720/1100) i did it outside in winter
-
Anyone had trouble installing new 11.6 drivers? I got bsod with atikmpag.sys :<
-
@scud_svk
I actually had P1360 with the same OC with one set of drivers- it's even posted somewhere in this thread but in this case we've had the same set of drivers.
If you are bored you may run 3DMark11 at 670MHz core & 900MHz memory (that's my max OC)- that way we would be able to compare the CPU difference (the same notebook, drivers, benchmark and OC)
@cranky_M
No problems. Did you use the ones from the "update post" -

nop, in some games like crysis 2, the load of the GPU is very high, I have random crash.

@downloads
Yep I've downloaded the ones from here. After couple of tries I rerolled drivers to default and after that installed the new ones. Could some one tell me which driver version do they see in Catalyst? Mine is 8.861.0.0 and it's dated 5/24. Not sure if they installed properly :\
Also had same atikmpag.sys BSOD with 11.5, so I used 11.4
p.s I've ran mem64/windows7 memory tool no errors. Maybe I should try updating the bios to 1.28? -
I have the same driver version and date- hopefully we both use correct drivers
