You'll have to buy a new keyboard- you'll find one at eBay or similar place. Prices are rather low so it shouldn't be a problem piecewise.

Removing keyboard is very easy- just remember that the panel on top of it that you'll have to remove prior to removing the keyboard is attached to the unit at the right side by a cable that relies volume control, so don't just rip it out.
You won't have to detach the cable in question- just move the panel out of the way.

To a certain extent all laptops are built like bombs in the movies, with little wires and stuff that you can rip lose when you take it apart, but instead of making an explosion, you just get a broken laptop. :(

Guys, sorry if this has been already adressed, but today I tried updating my ati catalyst control center from the stock one to the one from ati site.- ( catalyst install manger 11.9 )

I am getting the BSOD while installing the ati display driver component.

I shows that the drivers are installed. And the screen is in crappy 800x600 res. So i uninstall the drivers and it now the display is fine.. aero working fine all back to normal, but when I use the catalsyst software, It says that no drivers are detected.

Can any 1 tell if the link given in the very 1st post works? or do I have to folllow any steps.

    TIA

The link works- I'm using those drivers as we speak.
Maybe you should consider cleaning the system (some kind of driver sweeper) and re-download and re-install new drivers again.

The only thing that's useful in this package is SATA driver (SATA AHCI controller) so it would be better to install the package and then remove whatever it adds from autostart and disable services.

Sorry if this has already been posted, it is hard looking through 426 pages of info.

Can you overclock the cpu without using setFSB? Only one version of it had it, which I can't activate because it's a shareware. Please help!

Hey downloads, how did you install them, I mean did you uninstall previous drivers and then install the new ones or directly installed the new ones or used some kind of driver sweeper?

Official ATI recommendation was to install on top of the old ones unless you've had problems in which case driver sweeper or similar tool was recommended.

SATA AHCI controller can be seen under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" in device manager and it (indirectly) controls your DVD and more importantly HDD so it's advisable to use the most recent version (although some might argue that it's better not to upgrade if you have no problems with it- I can see a point in that too)

My first post here hehe :)
I just wanted to share some thoughts about cleaning this laptop, which I did yesterday. A good ideea is to clean the cooler out too, meaning that open the cooler's case (4 black tiny screws), open it as much as you can and blow some air from the back, so the dust from inside the radiator elements comes out. I also manually cleaned with a tiny brush all the fan's palettes.
Doing this my temperature dropped in Idle by 6 degrees Celsius from 54-55 to 46-47, and in-game from 76-78 to max 60 degrees, overclocked.
Note: I Have the I3/HD5470 model, and I didn't apply any special thermal compound, just a regular one used in electronics .

Hey downloads, can you from now on add some date stamps near the drivers(like date when they will get updated) on first page? If it ain't hard for ya. I believe for some of us it would be easier/comfortable.

I downloaded the latest drivers catalyst suite 11.10 and updated on top the existing (I think *corrupted*) update. It installed fine without any bsod.

Talking of the same BSOD, The one I got is 0x116 TDR timeout error on atikmpag.sys. NO specific fix has proposed for it yet. But It seems that it is a common error and that updating the latest drivers is doing the trick.

Btw I also updated to the latest BIOS 1.28. May be it played a part in updating correctly, we never know.

    Happy gaming!

Has anyone done video conversion with the gpu?

I am using ImTooVideo Conversion but see no changes using the gpu. I have acceleration enabled under the CCP. I enable amd app under the program but it takes just as long to convert without it enabled. According to hwinfo the gpu does no more work than just browsing the internet.

Have u tried using the software for video conversion provided by ATI? AFAICR it's available by Catalyst Control Center...

EDIT: It actually WAS there, can't find it now xD. Probably it's now optional and downloadable from ATI's website.

The only software I've seen that works with ATI Stream (or whatever it's called) apart from the one that used to be in CCC is Cyberlink's MediaEspresso.

That said there are basically no config options on neither of those which makes it pretty useless compared to all those converters/encoders where you can set up everything manually.

    Hey :)

Recently my windows was acting strange: constant lock-ups, no responding, freezes, restarts. Until i came to a point where out of nowhere winlogin became corrupt.
After countless reboots i got infinite loop of some strange recovery option which did not work. I low level formated HDD and put fresh windows back on.
Day later all previous symptoms happened again. I was seriously pissed because internet is essential atm for my work.

Long story short: My WD HDD had so many bad sectors, i used chkdsk many times but they kept coming back!!!!I was really angry and tierd of it. Then I took HDD out of my laptop, proceeded to turn it sideways, pronounced: ''C'est la Vié'' and threw it out of my flat. It satisfied me of knowing that it didn't survive the 7 floor fall. Then i went to a store and bought new 1TB samsung model with 3 year warranty :)

Now even the annoying spin up-down thing is gone yay!

Oh, and i'd like to share my awesome find. It's Driver Pack Solution ( DriverPack Solution >> Best Drivers installation Software) - it's totally free! and there is over 40 drivers for this laptop all updated to the latest. I installed it and no driver conflicts what-so-ever.

Good luck and thanks for reading.

    Hi,

I have a question to anyone who use HDD caddy at the ODD connector. Can you check for me whether the HDD on the caddy is running at SATA II (3Gbit/s) or SATA I (1.5Gbit/s)?

I think ODD may not support 6Gbps speeds only sata I.

But unless I'm hugely mistaken, since SATA III is backwards compatible, they should have been able to connect it to the SATA III port and have it run, as always, at SATA I speeds.
    sorry for my bad english...

Yes, you're correct. If SATA 6Gbit/s drive connected to SATA II (3Gbit/s) controller, it will work at backward-compatibility which is at SATA II (3Gbit/s) speed. The same thing happen to SATA II (3Gbit/s) drive when connected to SATA I (1.5Gbit/s).

However, this is not what I'm referring to in my previous post. Aspire 5740G have SATA II controller & I'm interested with the speed the HDD on the caddy is running at. On some notebook, HDD on the caddy is running at SATA I speed.

I guess it's "Windows is loading" xD
Anyway, this is second case of that failure mentioned on the forum, and no solution is known atm. :/
Maybe reflashing BIOS will help? Or reinstalling Windows? If you don't try we will never know xD

Have you a crisis bios recovery disk?
Load the default config: f2 for bios menu, f9 load default config, f10 save and exit...
    Or maybe restart the cmos...
    hdd sector damaged?

    @requiemflu,

The beeps sound happen while windows loading - meaning windows already take over from BIOS. So, it's not BIOS problem. When you said you reinstalled windows, did you do fresh installation or you just use windows recovery?

Hello, I installed a few days ago afterburner to overclock the GPU, support power play and you can make settings for 2D and 3D acceleration, even the overclocking is activated by turning on the computer, but not working properly.
When installing the Catalyst 11.10 preview 3 (supposedly give support to the HD 6570, the Same chipset ati hd 5650 whit gdr5 memory). the memory cores only appear to 975 mhz, whit amd gpu clock up to 1080mhz. random freezes at windows start-up
It really does not work well, and I advise you not to use

Preload disk? Using recovery partition/DVD? Basically not fresh installation - format & reinstall Windows using Windows installation DVD - right? The beeps sound like keyboard key stuck. To troubleshoot this, try disconnecting the keyboard & use USB keyboard instead.

If the BIOS fails (I do not think so), you can reinstall the previous BIOS with the crisis disk, is a utility to flash bios from a flash drive, you have a tutorial in this forum.
But I also think that before you should install a new windows from original dvd.
I had problems with bios acer.com downloaded from the website, I never installed on my computer, I had strange errors, but this last which appeared in acer / europe / spain run smoothly

OK but im not sure if its safe to install this drivers, because they do not mention that mobility cards are supported.

Another question. How do I use turbo boost for i7? I have installed the drivers from acers website, but im not sure if it optimizes the proccessor automaticaly or do I have to boost it myself?

TurboBoost works automatically with or without those drivers. Drivers are not really for TurboBoost but for its monitor- so you're fine.
