Simple principle - just don't agree on anything that has worse specifications than your 5740G. They know what they're doing and their questions like "why this replacement unit is unnaceptable in your oppinion?" makes them sound like b****s.
This is my personal point of view.

They should treat you like The King now taking under consideration the time that you have lost waiting for repair or replacement.

thats the thing. here in india the service is horrible. the service centres are hard to find and in such filthy areas of town where people would never go in their right minds. and the saddest part is we pay almost 10-20% more for our computer gear. i got the aspire 5740g for 850$. there are no stringent laws over here and even if you do have a case its gonna take long time for any good to come of it. baah

My laptop is 19 months old now,but the price i paid back then based on the current local currency to $ exchange rate equals about 1000$. Fortunately for me back then the shop i bought it from had an anniversary and all laptops had a 10% discount. The prices in my country are always waaaaaay more than others :(

Has anyone ever played Crysis Warhead on this laptop? The game does not load levels. It gets stuck on 0% and stops responding. It seems to be happening only on ati cards. If anyone ever had this problem and solved it, please share. Thanks

    have you msvxr80.dll?download here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr80
surely you are missing some dll, check your configucarion of catalyst, update c + + and DX9-10
    any error messages?

What is msvxr80.dll? Last game i played was nfs run and it updated my directx and visual c++. In crysis warhead, the game starts fine with all the logos, menu is also perfect even the starting movie is displayed correctly. But when the 1st level starts to load, it just does not load :( . My CCC is 11.8 btw. EA help guys are telling me to format and reinstall everything and try again. I don't want to do that. Upon first installation, it gave some intelgaminglaptop.dll error. I reinstalled and now this  . Please help guys, i really wanna play this game. I bought the crysis trilogy recently in india and it cost me my 2 month pocket money savings. Crysis 1 ran perfectly and i want to continue the saga. EA help is saying that it is an ati problem as the game is "NVIDIA certified" and ati help is saying that it is a crytek problem. If anyone ever had this problem and solved it, please tell how...Thanks.

if you do not load the game, your windows is missing some dll. download the missing dll, I think it msvxr80.dll and copy it to the windows folder

I played the whole Crysis trilogy on my 5740G(i5 430m,ATI HD5650) and had no problems whatsoever.Maybe you messed something up with the installation of the game or something.Do you get any error messages when the loading hangs?Could be a HDD problem possibly if it happens only on loading.Post a full SMART status report too.

    hey im worried...

so i was on my 5740 g just a few minutes ago and the internet was sloooow and it was doing weird things (with my ipod connected it constantly played the usb in/out sound) and i was searching something on the internet when all the sudden i got i think the BSOD but i could really see it because the screen was blurred by stripes across the screen, almost like that thing on tv when you have no reception, but in colour, and then it just restarted, and is working fine.

    My first thoughts were:
    1.ING VIRUS!
then i remembered i ran a virus scan a few days ago and it had some viiruses but i deleted them,so i doubt its them...
    2.DAMNIT OVERHEATING!
it was kind of a bit hotter than usual...

but idk if you have any clue what happened tell me,because i definetly dont want it happening again!

    peace out,stogi.

I want to overclock my core i5 430m but setfsb has stopped the clock generator ( ICS9LRS3197AKLF ) used for our laptop.I tried other older versions till 2.1 90.0.....no luck....can someone give me the link for that version of setfsb which is compatible with the Acer 5740g. Its again enabled in the shareware version latest one 2.3.171.132 but we have to donate to get the activation key...... :(

    OLD versions:

in the Acer 5740G, can only be the latest version of set fsb to pay.
With cpu-tweaker 1.4 the Dram Frequency rises to733MHz and nb Frequency 2199.1 with the core i7 720QM, but I do not know if it is safe...
Tutorial, in spanish,This is an experiment! but works on several intel chipset hm55,can be dangerous.

I ll wait for the freeware version of setfsb to have our clock generator support again......
or can anybody plzzzzzzzzzz tell how to get setfsb 2.3 to work without paying..... :)

I have a big problem with my Acer 5740g laptop.I get the disconnected/connected usb sound in Windows 7 all the time.I enter Device/Manager and the culprit seems to be a portable device (Drive H :) and my device manager keeps refreshing.I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 but i couldn't get past the first loading screen because the horror sounds start again. So it's not the drivers ! I disabled from Device Manager the Mass Storage Device and the Portable Device H: and the problem seemed to stop. The question is ? How do I uninstall completely those things.I tried the old fashioned way with uninstall from device manager but when i click detect hardware the horror starts again. Please help !

There's something wrong with the connector or cable on this portable device.
If this happens on all/more than one USB port it's a problem with the portable device not the laptop.
It's very likely that you would experience the same issue on any computer you connect this device to. (or at least that's what should happen)

I figured out who is the culprit ! Alcor Usb Card Reader. The thing is that my series of laptop 5740g says clearly that I don't have that (it's written on the box - no bluetoot and no card reader).Still,it detects my card reader as a mass storage device and the only way to stop the sounds is to force disable through Device Manager. This is the strangest thing I have seen in years.I bought the laptop in summer 2010 and since 5-6 days ago I haven't had any problems. What triggered the awakening of a non-existant card reader ?

You really physically don't have a card reader?
That's weird- not as weird as non-existent hardware actually switching itself on and off but still.

I thought you were talking about an external HDD or a thumbdrive.

    hey y'all

    I have a few questions. I'm a owner of a Acer Aspire 5740G :)

Recently i have bought a 8 gig memory upgrade. What is the maximum amount of ram the 5740 can handle? At the moment it states: 8gb ram, 7.86 usable.. Also is it true the 5740 does not support ram 1333mhz clock speeds?

Is the latest bios version 1.22?

    Thank you :)

    Hi,

Supported RAM speed depend on what processor your notebook have. To be able to use DDR3-1333 speed, you'll need at least i7 quad-core processor.

    Hi guys,

I have another problem with this laptop...

I accidentally pulled out speakers jack with my leg and I think I damaged SPDIF out... now when I disconnect speakers jack from SPDIF, sound won't reproduce on integrated speakers and there is a red light coming out from SPDIF out.

While speakers are connected to SPDIF, only one speaker works...

Speakers are fine (both work properly on other laptops), so I assume my SPDIF out is totally screwed.

Any suggestions on what should I do? Can sound card be replaced or is it integrated into motherboard?

It is integrated into the mobo but the problem is not the sound cards but the damaged audio jack- you should start by replacing it (yourself if you know how or sending it to a service center.

    @ka4o_pi4a

Atheros falls back to 150mbps with power-saving enabled so apparently it does so when you put the notebook to sleep and fails to switch back to performance mode when you wake it up. Most likely a drivers issue.

Service manuals can't be shared here but are to be found on the net- look for a service guide for 5738G- the same chassis as 5740G but easier to find.
You'll need a soldiering iron to replace a jack though.

Is there any way to get the AMD 5650 GFX card overclocked with MSI Afterburner? I can't do it. It vexes me. Even after "unlocking" overclocking in the cfg, I can't manage to make any changes whatsoever in clock speeds. I really don't want to have to continue to rely on my trusty AMD ATI Overclock tool, but is there any other option that works?

[Edit (since I don't like deleting posts)]

Seems like I might have discovered what was vexing.

Thanks for the swift reply Downloads.....but tell me one thing...like you earlier mentioned that our motherboards doesn't support 1333MHz...so will it automatically downclock to 1066MHz and adjust the memory clock speed (667MHz to 533MHz)
and the increase the latency(5 to 8 or something)...all this will it do automatically itself...?

You can bios overclock the 5650 on an Acer 5740? I was under the impression that the vbios was too well hidden away to be accessible.

Anyway, you recommend Sapphire Trixx as your overclocking software? I'm trying to change the programs I use to spice things up, prettier UIs, more friendly control, stuff like that.

The highest i7-600 series processor can support is DDR3-1066 speed. Will need at least i7-720QM to be able to use DDR3-1333 speed.

You can use DDR3-1333 RAM modules with i3/i5/i7-600 processors. They will work in backward compatibility mode. Meaning if CPU support DDR3-1066 speed, the DDR3-1333 RAM modules will work in 1066 speed.

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy an Intel SSD Series 310 (80GB). I read that it has PCIe Interface, but sends SATA signals. I know that the 5740G has an empty mSata PCIe Slot. My questions is, can I use this SSD with the 5740G? Does it support Sata Signals with the empty PCIe Slot?
    Thanks

After some research I have to say, that i don't know, if its an mSata slot or PCIe 1x slot or an mini-PCIe Slot... It would be great if someone knows more about the free slot, and could make a recommendation what SSD i could use (if its possible). And I want to use it as bootable drive.
    Thanks

I don't think it will die on you. Worst case scenario- you'll end up like me- with a 12 cell replacement battery and almost 7 hours of battery life ;)

    @Arelenia

Your second post hit the nail on the head- you won't be able to boot from mPCI-Ex so the whole idea won't work.

Seems like my graphics card is dieing :( . Couple days ago i had two white-screen problem while booting to windows(happened before bios thing could show up). Now i got BSOD(atikmpag.sys). I have reassembled the laptop over 5 times, it means that my warranty is lost i guess. I am using ati CCC 11.12.

Maybe no one will notice if it dies and you send it to Acer (hopefully it won't do that at all)
