EyeAm probably same lap than me. You can go high but not really stable, and depending on which drivers and OS versions are used, OC limits may vary.

Guys I'm just wondering what the clocks are for a 9700M GT

If I get a cooler I may OC the card a little, and I was wondering how this compares to the 9700 in terms of clocks

Rayyan 9700M GT's clocks are 625/1550/800, as you can see, those are my actual clocks, except for memory which is 900 ;-)

So your card PWNS the 9700M GT lol
    Respect man :D :D :D

I'm just wondering how the clocks affect perfomance, and what they actually REPRESENT apart from being numbers

I'm new to overclocking so bear with me

Yeah just a little, however some guys go up to about 700/1700/975 so it's not really a performance but at least it's completely stable and doesn't overheat.

Hum...When you change them, it goes faster ! ;)

    I hope you'll like my answer !

    Seriously to make it simple,

625 is the core frequency therefore main calculation speed
1550 is shaders frequency therefore special effects calculation speed
800 is memory speed therefore the bandwidth will increase if you go up.

Passing from 500/1250/800 to 625/1550/800 increases the performance by about 20%. And about 5-10 degres more in temps.

6943 3DMarks!!! on T5800 with 9600m. Wholely Frak, Admiral Adama. Cylon card?

Now it's just getting rediculous! Can you believe this 9600m GPU? On a T5800 Processor this is stellar and then some.

    Some questions arise however;

    1. Why does CPU-Z say my processor name is T7250 while saying the specificatio is T5800?

    2. Why does 3DMark list the CPU as T5850?

This was more than just a clock mod. I also upped the voltage by a safe 0.11V from 1.05V to 1.16V. Hence, the 91degree GPU max Temp. Still safely below the 105 degree max shutdown spec which I feel is a bit of wishfull thing on the manufacturers part.

Very sweet results. Surely this is the T5800/9600m 3DMark record? Let me know.
Any challengers? "is there no one else? IS THERE NO ONE ELSE?" --(Achilles' quote after smoting the Thessalian champion). :D

    MUUAAAAAHAAAAHAAAA!!!!!

EyeAM, I don't really get why you're so excited, it's just a 3DMarks score. Yeah this is 9600M GT gpu, if you turn up clocks then it goes faster, why can't you believe this ??? It says T7250 because T5800 is a T7250 renamed.

    With 660/1650/950, i achieved nearly 6700.
But it crashed too often for me in games, not usefull at all.

Good to hear your enjoying your laptop

I haven't tried OCnig yet, beacuse I hit 93 degrees on my card on stock, so I am waiting to get a cooler first

    Got 5 reasons to get excited my friend. I'll line em up as follows;

    1) This is by far the best Laptop I've ever had and the performance (with tweaking) makes it good enough for gaming + mobility, :D Yay!

    2) The higher the max overclock, the higher the "stable" overclock will be (in your particular system) which thusly increases stable gaming performance, :D loud Yay!

    3) I'm very inerested in scoring the maximum T5800CPU // nv9600mGPU overclocked 3DMarks record cuz I'm an avid overclocker and these experiments educate one quite specifically with the particular quirks of ones GPU. (translation? PRIDE & EGO, lol). :D Somewhat self-conciously softer Yay.
    4) Your 6700 3DMarks score is pretty much the high end for this setup (T5800 // 9600m) so my 6943 3DMarks score is cutting the sharpest edge of the art here, :D much louder Yay!

    5) And finally. I tried long and hard with much failure just getting started due to the bloatware and lack of appropriate documentation that Acer deems acceptable (NOT!) and was only successful due to YOU having reminded me of the HP bootable Thumbdrive method so you can share in this excitement too. Excitement is a great serotonin balancer and goes a long way toward increasing pleasure receptor euphoria feelings mumble yadda blah.... So, hats off to you Kallogan. You've been way helpfull. :D loudest Yay yet, heehee.

Anyone know of a higher 3DMarks score over T5800CPU // nv9600mGPU than my 6943? I'm still excited, lol. (and still trying to beat it--without frying my card)

    Wait till I start overclocking

WHICH I WONT SOON BECAUSE TODAY TSZ0 and TZS1 [FROM HWMONITOR] SHOWED ME TO HIT 100C WHILE PLAYING CoD4

    I went into shock, lol
And after some posting I opened the beast up and set to work cleaning the heatsink

here is a pic of what I found [very scary so be wary]:
    [IMG] [IMG]

Since cleaning, my idle CPU temp has dropped from ~40 to 35, while my GPU temp has dropped from idling between 55-65 to ~45 degrees

Bear in mind, that I am no done cleaning, I still have to get compressed air to properly clean out the heatsink + fan so expect further reductions in temp

Also haven't tested ti while gaming

Just wait man, once I get a cooler, and my laptop is fully clean [just waiting to get some compressed air to clean vents/fan/heatsink properly], I'll be the president of that club
I will PWN all who stand in my way MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA ;)

And I did warn you :p

I've had the the laptop for 6 months now, but the reason that so much dust built up in my opinion is this:

--After the first 1-2 months I got lazy and stopped packing my laptop away each night, so basically it was on my desk all night [off of course]
--This isn't a problem for most people in America / Europe, but I am in the middle east and dust is a HUGE problem here, and it got into my laptop and eventually built up
It gets everywhere and mucks things up[maybe beacuse Saudi Arabia is mostly desert apart from the cities, wind blows sand into them ;)]

You might want to open it up and take a look, I did it beacuse of the 100 degrees, and beacuse I used to idle at around 50-60 degrees.

For more information on what to do, check outthis thread

Drugs? Natural endorphines due to record setting overclocks, my friends. :D

OK, so it's on. Now we all know talk is cheap and text is cheaper while a picture speaks volumes. So; rule No. 1) No picture? = No bragging rights.

The picture should include the following:
    - CPU-Z to prove Processor and FSB.
    - GPU-Z to prove Video Card and to show clock settings.
    - HWMonitor to show CPU and GPU Temperatures.
    - 3dMarks full system score sheet to prove points and the rig tested.

    Agreed?

Now personaly I find the following layout to be the best and notice if you will my new record of 6964 3dMarks on T5800-CPU // nV9600m-GPU Hooooraaaah!!! :D :D :D
    [IMG]

PS. I do however, reserve the right to cry if out-clocked, lol. :D

Thx again for the reminder about the HP thumdrive app, Kallogan. Quickest method by far...

If you succeed with that cooler install you will smoke all of us and I'm gonna want detailed instructions, lol.

Also; Try picking up a Laptop cooler tray (cooling slab that sits on your table under your Laptop). I don't have one yet but I will soon as I've heard great things about them.

For the extremists; Run a vacuum hose from your air conditioner straight into your Laptop intake. heehee

Nicely done, Kallogan. Impressive temperature there. Wonder what Vista 64 would do for you with full RAM usage? Although the share beyond the dedicated 512MB is only around 1700 or something like that. Ever heard of anyone upping to the allowable 2303MB max for nv9600m? Wondering what the cost of that might be too.

Now I haven't researched this yet but they do mean "upgradeable to 2303MB dedicated on-board" don't they? Or is that the 512MB plus the 1700 (roughly) shared? Something about that isn't computing. Normal onboard RAM number ought to be either 2048 or 2304 not 2303. Fishy?

I think this is what you want to know
The card has in-built 512MB GDDR3, but if it needs, it can take up to 1791MB of memory from the RAM [according to specs I have read on numerous pages, and on the spec sticker on my palmrest ;)]

Now THIS gives the total of 2303, which nVidia claims the total memory of the card can be
    Sneaky, huh

    Hope this helps

Ps - Welcome to the forums :D

    No, not really

Don't pay much attention to it to be honest, but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary
You do mean the blue line going from the power button the the screen right???

Or the ones on the right for HD, caps lock and numlock???
Because the Hard disk icon flashes a lot when typing, or whenever the hard drive is used for that matter :)

    Hope this helps

lol i don't know what you're talking about but you're welcome ;) the Gpu flashing method by using a bootable usb stick ???? I don't even remember that i've explained it here or maybe for flashing the motherboard bios.

Anyway, i've flashed my gpu bios to 625/1550/900 stable settings and now i do my OC cooking using Nvidia tools it's faster.

yeah I mean the blue line on the left side. Haven't notice it either before, saw it today for the first time. it's like when I type the blue line dont get enough with power so it blinks or fade a litte bit. But like I sad, just sometimes so hope it's not bother me to much :)

And I guess you only can see it when it's dark in the room.

Very cool (pun intended) Kallogan. You've still got a ways to go to get past my 6964 on the last page but you're killing me on temp. I pushed 92 degrees for that result.

BTW which tool specifically are you using for the software clock amper? And will it work in Vista64?

After 2 days searching for a way into Insyde H2O for a CPU overclock without pulling out the C / C++ manuals and doing a decompile, I finally got fed up and riffled off this email to them.

    To whom it may concern:

I am a network engineer in Canada who wishes to develop a business dealing with End-Users who are past warranty or willing to wave/void warranty in order to modify motherboard / bios options mostly for overclocking purposes. Manufacturers for obvious reasons having to do with warranty claims are unwilling to develop and release such tools. Lack of such tools also increases End-User desire to upgrade hardware and thusly increases profit margins for manufacturers. These facts support the notion that no such tools will be forthcoming from manufacturers.

This means that thousands of End-Users have a desire for an "Insyde H2O" motherboard / bios modification tool with overclocking options that they would be willing to pay for and sooner or later someone will develop and release such a tool. The person/s or Company which does this stands to make a sizable profit particularly if utilising a multi-level business model such as a Web Site providing various software / hardware / firmware tools which would garner profits from not only End-Users but also from advertisers and linked sites.

Since I have researched your H2O implementation and have become convinced that it will become the new industry standard, I would very much like to be the person and Company founder to benefit from such a scenario and would be more than willing to share the profits. By use of an End-User acceptance agreement prior to download, I would be willing to handle all legal liability issues between End-Users and manufacturers resultant from incorrect usage of said "Insyde H2O" tool thus removing your company from all responsibility. So your company can only profit from such an arrangement with no investment beyond the initial development of the application which I believe your developers could output in less than a few days if they don't already have such a tool in-house, which they likely do. Not many business opportunities are this easy to capitalize on.

This will be done eventually whether or not "we" are the ones to do it. My research indicates that various developers are already looking into the potentials and the online forums are full of End-Users demanding action in this regard.

I would very much like to discuss this with you further as I beleive there is not much time left to take advantage of this market niche before it happens through a third party. I am very flexible as to what finacial arrangements and profit-sharing / royalty options would be agreeable to your firm.

    Sincerely,
    (My Name)

    But I have some questions

    1-What is Insyde H20
2-Who did you send the e-mail to
    3-What's the point

I've seen it before, it lights up whenever you plug in the AC adapter, even if the laptop is on
Mine doesn't stutter at all or blink.
I can see it during the day, when I said I don't notice it, I meant I have gotten used to it
I don't think it's that big an issue, but if you are worried about the blinking why don't you call acer or the retailer that provides you with a warranty and ask them

Hi all, I am new in this forum.
I am planning to buy this machine within few days. I am asking about the possibility of upgrading the HD with another one of 7200 RPM to raise the performance. I am not planning to play games with this machine ... I am a developer and most of my work will be development and compilation which requires a lot of HD access. I have checked Westen Digital and find a very good HD http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=477
In the specifications they write that it's SATA 3. Can I use this model to upgrade the Acer 5930?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that it should work in the laptop, as the Drive in mine is a 250GB SATA drive from Hitachi

In fact, I'm thinking of upgrading to that very same drive

EyeAm I've found on the web that firefly forest crash while 3Dmarks benchy seems to be due to a undervolting issue. there's a voltage peak at this point which causes black screens.

Update : Well, i overvolted my gpu extra box to 1,16 V but it still crashes in the firefuc*ing forest. Too bad because my temps would have allowed me to PWN your record ;-)

Other subject, i've found a guide to undervolt cpu in order to lower temps, it appears to be pretty interesting

There are a lot of undervolting guides on the internet, even some on these boards, you should check them out.
But since your temps are still good why would you want to????
BTW - What are you guys' idle temps ????

I don't want to. But have you ever tried ??? Just found it while trying to find gpu overvolting infos ;-). Idle for GPU is 47°C for me. 40°C for CPUs

Okay I have figure out which buttons it concerns most. Anyone of you have time to press some of these buttons for 1 sek and release and see if your blue line reacts like mine

    Buttons:
    r, e, t, f, g, 4, 5

    I've never tried it
Since cleaning my notebook, my temps are 45-50 GPU and 29-35 for CPU [real cool i know     ]

I pressed each of those keys one at a time while staring at the blue line, but nothing happened to it at all.
    Sorry

Concerning 179.48 they didn't convince me, lower 3dmarks score and more OC crashes than 179.28. I stay on 179.28 for the moment.

Rayyan the battle isn't fair you have a P8400 :D
