Bishie ... which program are you using to identify the cpu?
    usually we always use CPU-Z.
Use that one and see which velocity is it reporting.

    The P7350 is a 2.0 GhZ CPU.
If your cpu is running on 2.26 GhZ, then there's a possibility you have a P8400 cpu model, the computer came overclocked for some reason, or the program you used to identify the cpu and it's speed are registering it incorrectly.
However, models with P8400 come with 320Gb hdd and 4 GB RAM if I'm not mistaken.

    ImAgInArIus

go to www.intel.com, and search for the Intel Matrix storage device driver.
Download it along with the SATA driver (unless it's part of the IMSD driver) and slipstream onto your XP disc, or you can disable AHCI in BIOS temporarily until you install XP and then re-enable after you installed XP and the IMSD/SATA.

As for the 5930G drivers ... use the search function on this site as I remember there being a thread which provided links to XP drivers for 5930G.

I have now overclocked my gpu 9600m gt :)

not just the shader, downloaded NiBiTor.v4.6

    Then ---tools--read BIOS--read into NiBiTor

then i just placed the core, shader, memory to 650, 1700, 850(x2=1900Mhz)

Saved the bios as oc9600gt, then placed it on a memory stick(can use a cd-r) and also placed nvflash (the program for flashing, IN DOS).

Then i flashed my gpu bios with the modded one that i made.
    Now i have stockspeed at 650 core, shader 1700, memory 1900 :)

And no i didn´t change anything else in nibitor..

And yes its working like a charm!!

Hope you also succed with this!

Ps,, sorry for my bad english...

This is where you will find the latest drivers:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Also ... you will have to download the modified inf file and FOLLOW the instructions carefully because the process of installing these drivers is a bit different from their desktop version.

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9243

check this guide carefully and follow it to the letter.
Have you replaced the inf file in the extracted dir with the modified one?

If not, this is most likely why you are getting that message.

Or ... you tried installing the drivers using 'setup.exe.' and failed.
In that case, you should install the driver manually through the modified inf file (which should have replaced the original inf that was extracted with other files from the main one).

    Installing the Driver
How can I install these drivers?
    Where is the Modded INF?

Now that you have decided which driver to install you can proceed to next step - installing them with Modded INF.

    Basically it's a 3-step process:
    1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
    2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
    3. Install & reboot.

im reading all the guides.....but nothing... the driver instal but when the laptop restart the drivers is not installed...

EDIT: i manage to install the drivers i had to use an old version of the inf file it seems that they have a problem with the .inf file on the lastest release...now im going to try to install the sata device...

    Hi!

    I have 5920G here. I'm just curious, does 5930G has a glare/glossy screen just like 5920G?

Stressing the card with that over clock while gaming would be better.
It would provide us with a better approximation on the FPS gain in games and by just how much the temperatures got up over the stock settings.

Can someone please upload the nVidia 176.37 on RapidShare etc. since the “laptopvideo2go” link does not work.

The link points to the correct site but the file is not there any more.

    The link:
    Laptop2Video 17637.exe (Can't post links yet)

Also if somebody could upload all drivers needed that are CONFIRMED XP and WORKING it would be great:

    1) Ethernet Controller
    2) Network Controller
    3) PCI Device
    4) SM Bus Controller
    5) Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

These are the devices that aren’t found after a fresh install of Windows XP SP2.

I have posted the same question on the site recommended here (acer-aspire-5930-windows-xp-drivers) but there seems to be a lot of people there claiming to have XP drivers but they are broken or confirmed Vista or not working :(

So if someone would be able to upload drivers on RapidShare etc. or likewise I would be really greatful.

Make a final, working destination for people searching for drivers HERE.

    I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance - TheSwede86

When I play games, I'm hearing a sound like "rrrrr" from left of laptop.
Sound will finish when I quit game.
    It's a very quiet sound.
Maybe it's coming from 9600GT card. Maybe not.
    I don't know.

    Any body know why?
Or how can I fix it?
Or is it a problem or not?

    Hi,

I'm the happy owner of a Acer 5930g-844g32mn, i've the following problem :

Under windows vista 64b or any 64b system (tried fedora 10 64b), i've only 3066MBytes instead of ths 4000MBytes installed.

Someone know how to get the last 1000Mbytes?
    Is a bios limitation?
    Is it the turbocache memory?

    Thnaks.

    Hey all.

Just found this thread, and I wanted to say that I'm am a happy, satisfied owner of a 5930G (thus far).

I bought it from a local retailer around September 15, and the specs are in my sig.

I play lots of games all at 1280x800 with maxed out or med/high settings usually with some sort of anti-aliasing with good framerates

I'll post some benchmarks if someone wants me to.

@ will, I have used my bluetooth a nubmer of times with my cellphone (W800i) and it has worked perfectly fine for me.

    RaYYaN ....
You also have a different model of 5930G.
Mine for example came with P7350 and 3gb RAM (other specs are the same) ... but apparently ... no bluetooth.

Some versions of 5930G appear to have bluetooth inside of them.
Mine for example appears to lack that feature.

Do you have a button on the left side of your keyboard with the bluetooth logo???
I do, and when I press it it lights up blue, and the bluetooth turns on :D
Same button is used to turn it off.

I'm pretty sure you have it too, maybe you un-installed something that you needed to make it work.

I only installed 3rd party apps that came with my laptop and kept all the acer things except GameZone and all those retarded demos :D

Oh ,I guess it doesn't come with bluetooth then.

You should call acer and ask them why there is a bluetooth button if the laptop doesn't have bluetooth.

Say it mislead you into buying the laptop, and that is illegal (maybe) ;) ;)

See what the acer rep says
    It'll be worth a laugh :D

    YEAH :D :D :D :D

For some strange reason, since I got used to this resolution I can't play at 1024x768 at all anymore
(it just looks so much better ;))

Well, I just got a week, off so I can get back into gaming mode.
I plan on installing some of dox's new drivers sol what I will do is benchmark all games with the old and new games, and post them here or in a mini-review.

I can benchmark all the following games:

    --DMC4
    --Gears Of War
    --CoD4
    --UT3
    --Crysis
    --Grid
    --Assassin's Creed
    --Far Cry 2
    --NFS Undercover
    --Tomb raider underworld

I also plan on getting world at war, fallout 3, dead space so I'll see what happens.

Gimme a few days though, as I want to be thorough, and need a new mouse ;)

If you hear a low whirring sound coming from the left of your laptop, only when gaming it is most likely just the fan spinning when the GPU goes over a certain temp.

I don't think you should worry about it unless it quite loud( which is the opposite of what you say), as that suggests there may be something wrong.

    'kikso'

5930 will be more than adequate for the games you mentioned (it's also capable of handling recent games such as Fallout 3 and Dead Space maxed out at native resolution of 1280x800 ... no Anti-Aliasing ... or very limited AA).
Just make sure to clean up the system of all the unnecessary Acer programs (apart from the touch pad and Crystal Eye cam drivers) and optimize Vista if you decide to purchase the laptop in question.

You can use it on your lap when you are sufring the net, watching a movie, etc.

But it will be hard gaming on your lap.
I tried crysis and unreal tournament 3 on my lap, and beacuse my left leg was covering the fans on that side, it got hot very quickly (not good for the laptop), and almost burned my leg (it really was that hot :p)

You can however, position the laptop so your left leg doesn't cover the vents, buts it's not too comfortable.

How ever this is the case with almost all laptops as they have fans and exhausts that get covered by legs

    Hope this helps

To my knowledge, you can play as much as you want.
However in this case, I'd definitely recommend you get at least Zalman NC2000B cooler (it would help reduce the overall temps by about 10 deg C which would be beneficial in your case).

The temperatures can get high on maximum load I'll grant you that (up to 75 deg C for the gpu, and about 80 deg C for the CPU), but nothing dangerous really as the laptop was designed to withstand that.
Just make sure you don't game while having the laptop in your lap (you are clogging the exhaust vents like that).

    EDIT:
You can put XP on the laptop (just make sure to download all of the drivers for XP from the internet before you clean out the system - check Device Manager in Vista to see the names/numbers of devices installed, go to the manufacturers websites and download all of the drivers for XP ... oh and you will also need SATA drivers to avoid the BSOD during XP install).
DirectX 10 is Vista compatible only and doesn't work in XP.
To tell you the truth though, games aren't really optimized to work properly under Dx10, and it's an unnecessary 'eye candy' that doesn't add that much to the overall realism apart from minute aspects.

On the subject if the gpu is upgradeable, I'd say yes. Acer is one of the companies that uses this method and doesn't actually solder the gpu on the mobo (at least as far I'm aware for this particular laptop).
The slot is MXMII ... so any future graphic cards MUST be MXM or MXMII (although to tell you the truth, the 9600m GT GDDR3 that comes with this laptop is bound to last about 2 years).

Also if you are wondering about the battery... you will get a maximum of about 3 hours under power saver mode (this is without gaming ).
Gaming would drain any battery fairly fast.

As for dx10 ... several people tried teaming up and making a dx10 for XP.
    Result:
You essentially only get the dxdiag to tell you you have version 10. In reality you don't actually utilize any of it's capabilities because it was designed for Vista and not XP.
But as I said, the changes between 9 and 10 aren't really noticeable, and most of the games can be modified so you get dx10 effects in dx9 mode (which is also faster).

As for where you can get it ...

That might not work for him Deks, beacuse he said he is in Egypt

You should be able to find it somewhere, I got it here in Saudi Arabia and they still have one of the models

To my knowledge, all 5930G come with Centrino2/Montevina cpu/chipset (as a result, the cpu fsb should be 1066Mhz)
    let's see ... the cheapest 5930G comes with P7350 cpu, 3GB ram, 250gb hdd ...
slightly more expensive one with P8400, 4GB ram, 250gb hdd.
even more expensive with P8600, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd ...
then you have even more expensive with P9500 cpu ... and finally T9400 cpu.

My recommendation would be to stick with P marked cpu's.
The version with P8400 would be pretty good from my perspective, but of course, if you can afford it, go with the P8600 or P9500 cpu version of the laptop as those also come with 320GB hdd (which are usually known for their higher platter density and as a result approach many 7200 rpm hdd in performance).

First find out which chipset is in your laptop.
Then go to Intel's website and download the sata drivers for that specific chipset.
I think there is also a set of generic drivers for sata ...I just don't know where to find them.

Well, I have the 5930G with P7350 and I cannot really complain.
It's performance is pretty great if you ask me ... and I use it not just for games, but also for 3d studio Max.

    There is another option ...
You could buy the P7350 version and upgrade the cpu/ram/hdd on your own.

HP is ok I guess but their DV5 series comes with 9600m GT DDR2 gpu which is slightly slower in games compared to the GDDR3 version (not to mention that they seem to be experiencing issues with temperatures).

Ask the store if they could order a higher spec 5930G and how much would it cost.
    :)
And if you have the money, then go with the version that has P9500 cpu inside.
P8600 would probably be a better value for the money though because it's only slightly slower than P9500 really (so the difference between the two isn't noticeable in games ... perhaps in programs such as 3dsMax ... but it would be marginal at best).
