Normal temps for gpu when idling are between 46 (maybe a little less when you have a P processor) and 60°C. When the temp hits 60°C the fan starts running slowly for 5 minutes until temp go back to 46°C then it slows down to almost turn off and temp slowly goes up again till the next pic of 60°C....etc

Mine will run at around 50-54C if its placed on the table, but about 46C if placed on top of my cooler (regardless of whether its on or off). I guess its due to better air flow.

The 5930 is definitely one of the bigger and heavier 15" laptops but theres no still no laptop in the UK that's better value for money IMO. My guess is that it has been withdrawn because it clashes with the 6935.

yep i forgot to say that i now rise the back of my lap with a home made system ;-) On a table i have 50-54 too.

Btw just to say that just rising the back of my lap by about 2,5 centimeters lower my temps from 5-10 degres due as you said to better air flow. No need of a cooler.

    Well I more or less blast air to the bottom of my laptop via the cooler ^^;

I'm thinking about opening up the heatsinks and applying some artic thermal fluid since I'm pretty sure the laptop uses thermal pads, hence the higher temps.

    Nokia N79

Not sure if the seller delivers to Saudi Arabia, plus shipping costs would probably be immense ;)

And if its defective then it will cost me even more unfortunately

    Hey guys ...
I think I may have a problem ... or just something temporary?
Anyway ... I started the laptop in Win XP ... everything was fine ... then I restarted and went into Vista .... upon the welcome screen, the gpu didn't display things properly ... there were odd lines, and then of course blank-brightness cranked up/flickering image as Vista was loading up.
When it reached the desktop, again there were odd lines throughout the screen.

This might indicate to a potential GPU failure as I recall someone mentioned a similar problem with the 8600M GT in the past.

I really haven't been doing any intensive tasks on the laptop lately ... apart from using 3dsMax for a bit a few days ago and all in my NX-01 mesh that has 1.78 million polys.

Well anyway, long story short ... as Vista finished loading (as quick as before), I decided to try a theory.
I closed the lid, opened it up, and there it was ... my Vista desktop.
I even ran BOTF game (an old ST game) and played for a while.
    Everything works fine.

Is the issue a potential driver problem?
I have experienced the gpu driver failing under Vista when I played Elite Force 1 and 2 on several occasions.

Or might it be a potential sign of a gpu starting to fail?

I experience no screen tearing or artifacts when I play games (regardless of how intense) or when I'm in desktop mode.
This was just apparently a 'throwup' upon Vista loading ... (although, about a week or two ago, I noticed that at times, when the Vista welcome screen comes up, the lower half of the image is black with some jagged lines towards the middle.
As if the gpu drew a completely black graph.

This seriously might indicate on a potential gpu problem.

I have been transporting the laptop a lot, but it was always unpowered when I did so.
And I'd rather not send the laptop to Acer support because there is a possibility they would hold it for days/weeks/months, and I cannot really afford that.
I can call them up for some potential help on the diagnosign aspect ... but that's it.

I bought the laptop in John Lewis store in Oxford street about 6 months ago, and I have the warranty papers ... so it's still under the 2 year warranty (year and a half to go).
The only thing I did was upgraded the RAM to 4GB (and I don't have the old ram with me as I gave it to a friend so he can use it, but apparently, that ram stick failed on it's own after several weeks of working fine ... my friend didn't misuse it btw ... it just failed).

    Some advice please.

I've been seeing a BSOD (blue screen) lately, with the error code STOP 0x00000008, 0xbab30d70, 0x00000000, 0x00000000. The BSOD only appears when I am connected to a wireless network - not right after connecting but after some random time. If I don't connect to any wireless networks, the BSOD never appears, despite the fact that the wireless is still turned on from the button in the upper-left corner of the keyboard.

Just before the time of any crash, the following two events are recorded in the Event Viewer:
    1) "The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{2071701B-C8AE-4322-A54D-2EC7AA8A40DA} was disconnected from the network, and the adapter's network configuration has been released. If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned. Please contact your vendor for updated drivers."
    2) "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0xbab30d70, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP."

I have the latest original Intel drivers installed for the WLAN adapter, but I still get this periodically. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

Interesting, I have never noticed anything like this, although I haven't been gaming much recently

However, I didn't even see this happen when my temps went into the 90s when gaming.

It might be a driver issue, are you using DoX's drivers????
Try those and the nvidia stock ones.

If you still have issues I recommend taking it to the shop and explaining what is happening to them

Also guys, I havent had any blue screens when using vista (can it get blue screens), but then again I have not yet done a re-format, and see no need for XP so.......

i had a blue screen once with a defective audio device driver (yeah i'm a singer ) .That's all, i find vista to be relatively stable since i overclock and undervolt all the time ;-)

btw, with my homemade system which raises the back of my lap, i'm only 84°C top when playing dead space with OC ! Even in my bed héhé, sooooo class ! ;-)

    Hey guys.
Well, I think I'm using official Nvidia drivers ... forgot right now ...
but in any event, things work just fine and I haven't been experiencing any other issues in terms of graphic errors ... I think there's also a possibility that because I'm using x64 OS for the most part, the drivers might be creating these glitches on the welcome screen.
As previously stated, inside Windows, games, 3ds Max, etc ... things are fine.
    No artifacts, no errors.

ok ... gotta get ready to go now.
    bye.

We haven't been able to o/c the CPU yet, only his gpu is overclocked

I have seen some Asus G50s with the same CPU as ours running @2.66 GHz
I would love to do that, from 2.26-2.66 :D :D
Would help in GTAIV

Deks I read on an italian forum about lots of people having problems with the lcd screen connector on the mainboard. People would get white screens and black screens and they had to open or close the screen to fix the issue.
It seems that the real fix is changing the pathway of the cable so that it's not so twisted near the connector.
One guy even had his comp "fixed" by Acer and returned to him with the problem still there, he really fixed it himself by doing this.

Hello guys.. finally i found this kind of forum...
First of all.. i bought my A 5930G on Desember... (thanks god on that time the currency rate is about Rp. 9000 for $1)...
At first time.. i can install Windows XP Profesional SP3... but i got some lags... my laptop can not directly detect an USB Flash disk or USB external disk drives plugged in... it needs to be restarted to detect the disk..
So,,,, with a lot of sacrifice i change it back to vizta ultimate 32 bit (i am an civil engineer and a lot of my software don't work on vizta)..
But i got some lags to... i can not play call of duty 5.. i don't know about previous game cause i usually still use my PC for gaming... When starting the game... it suddenly failed or error because something can not be loaded...

Could any one help me.. i'm still using standard driver from ACer...
    Thanks guys, GBU

First make sure that your power setting is on high performance

Go to the battery icon on the taskbar, click and choose high performance

I also suggest you install the latest nVidia drivers
Go here and choose the latest 179.48

    Save them to your desktop
Go to programs from control panel and choose to uninstall the display drivers
Once its done it will ask for a restart do it, and don't worry if the resolution is messed up ;)
Install the new drivers and see if it makes a change

    Good Luck

It hit the 90s once when my heatsink was clogged with dust

i'm in the 80s for demanding games, undervolting cpu and OCing GPU. And rising up the back of my lap. Without undervolting or rising back, my lap would fry especially with Dox drivers which heats at least 5°C more.

hmm think my internal subwoofer may have broked :(. I was sitting and listening on music when suddenly the sound became very crapy. And it didn't take long to realize that it was the subwoofer under the computer that maked all the crapy sound.

Well, off to repair again I guess

it's just that i'm not sure i'd be able to deal with the idea of a broken acer 5930G. Would so break my heart ;-)

I'd love to upgrade but my reason tells me it's not necessary yet ;-)

3dmarks 06 test temps : ( with OC at 580/1450/920, back of laptop risen by about 3 cm and 185.68 dox drivers )

    No undervolting (cpu/gpu) : 79°/81°C
    With undervolting (1.05V at 2 ghz) : 69°/73°C

In fact, i went back to rmclock and i stay now all the time in the 70s when playing. Cpugenie 1.0 was sh*tty. Rmclock is way more efficient.

Hey guys ... this is what happened when I activated the laptop and got the 'Welcome screen':

When i closed the lid and re-opened it, everything was fine ... the welcome screen with the password field was sitting there.

Btw, the image was fine upon booting up, although a few days ago even there the screen was just pale white until I closed and opened the lid a few times.

Is it possible the video cable is having issues or could this be related to the gpu being the problem itself?

As I posted earlier, you have to open the case around the power button and change the screen cable positioning, ie route it so it's not crimped.

On the other hand, anyone install Windows 7 RC1 yet? it's running great here (for now), I had to get the new laptop windows 7 drivers from Nvidia's site though because the driver that comes with Windows 7 made games hang after a few minutes.
RM clock works too^^ seems like a keeper.

Any ideas on how to open up the casing around the power button?
I'll probably have to disassemble the entire thing from below.
Trouble is, I don't have any screwdrivers at my disposal here.
Lol ... figures ... the screen hinges are the weak point of the laptop indeed.

I think you have to pull up the cover from the edges, I think its just clipped in. No need to open the notebook etc.

Try googling acer 5930 service manual.

    Hey guys ...
Haven't had the opportunity to open up the upper part of the casing at the power button ... was busy.
Will probably do it sometime today.
In any event, I wanted to ask about memory upgrades.
Any news if future BIOS upgrades will allow up to upgrade the RAM to 8GB?

Also ... given the fact I'm short on money and in an expensive city as London, I won't be upgrading the cpu/hdd anytime soon, perhaps later if/when I get a job of some kind that will allow me to save up decent amounts of money.
For now, it's a no go.

But in France, i got 2600 euros after 20 days in the clinic but sometimes it's more...indemnification calculation is based on the length of the trial and the number of blood catches and other tests during it...Well, i think you can get at least 2000 £ in 14 days...

If you think being locked for 2 weeks in a clinic is not for you then sometimes they purpose trials you can do at home...

Personnaly speaking, i brought my lap, books, movies and games...Plus we had access to internet in the clinic. Boys in my group were very nice, we played poker and laughed a lot during the trial. Not to mention nurses were sexy so daily blood catches were very pleasant moments ;-) Finally, the 20 days sounded like vacation, a sort of big brother without cameras ;-)

If you're planning to do this, get infos before any trials and do this only in serious/renowned clinics !!! You have to be in a pretty perfect health, have no allergies for ex...they'll check your health records before any trials and also weight, heart rhythm, blood-pressure...

    Hi all

I would like to overclock my acer laptop, how would I go about doing this? Im really looking to overclock the 2 cores and the 9600m gt graphics card.

Are there any risks involved with overlocking the two? such as heat issues etc.

Lastly, am I amble to change the geforce 9600m gt for a betetr graphics card in the future?

    thanks in advance

Overclocking this notebook is not really needed.
I think you'd be better off upgrading the CPU because it would operate on a native higher frequency ... and the gpu ... it's already powerful enough for the most part.

If you overclock any of the components, you can easily expect an increase in temperatures.
Some overclocks will give you very small temperature increases, while others could result in higher increases ... it varies from laptop to laptop really.

Eheeeh 100 Pages :D God save the Acer 5930

Overclocking my GPU still results in black screens, it get's really anoying now... Anyone allready fixed this?

Remember this guy on the forum, and got passed 700Mhz on core, really nice 3dmark score. And he said something about raising with the correct multiplier. I tried everything, but nothing works.

In 3dmark i can't go higher than 550Mhz, matter of a fact i can't go higher in any game than 550Mhz and my shaders get stuck too at 1400Mhz, only the memory is stable at 961Mhz in every game and benchmark, but it doesn't really do anything.

    BUT and a BIGGG but, I can overclock my GPU in GTA4, really far too;

680/1700/961Mhz the game runs noticebly smoother..

I'm affraid that i kill my laptop, so i did'nt push it further yet.. but i'm sure i can go much further.. Someone have this too??

I now use the 185.85 Nvidia driver(very good driver  ) under Vista Ultimate x64.

More than 100 pages, yeah !!! I'm still on Dox 185.68 too, 185.85 didn't convinced me since i got higher temps and lower 3Dmarks score with same settings...

Concerning overclocking, i played a lot with it. It occurs to me that in some games (like GTA IV ;-)) even very high clocks are stable, but frankly most of the games crash regularly black screen style especially when there's a lot of effects or physX supported (cryostasis is the king of the black screen !).

    Conclusion, 2 things :

    1) A reasonnable OC may be the good choice (like mine : 560/1400/900). It is quite stable in every situations and adds only a few degres more. +10% performances for free (+550 in 3dmarks)

    2) Plus a processor change. It will give you another 10% 3D performances more (between 500 and 600 points more in 3dmarks depending if it's T9600 or T9800...). But it's not for free....

Congrats. Your 3D performances has raised by about 20% ;-) Not to mention that the new processor will improve general performances too....especially combined with a SSD !!! (oh yeah !!!!)

BTW, we didn't have any news from the guy who changed his processor...Weird. I bet he fried his lap ;-)

Yep, agree with you totally BUT just beacuse processor increases 3D mark performance doesn't mean better gaming
CPU only affects small # of games like GTA IV and RTSs

FOr the rest we are limited by our 128-bit bus

For me, I can't get processors where I live (most likely) but will check in ~2 weeks once I am free
when I am free, I am also buying a cooler and gaming mouse, then undervolt my CPU, OC my GPU, and try to find a way to OC the processor as well

    GAME ON!!!!!!!!!!
Will finish every game I have this summer :D

When you mention most games crashing kallogan, do you mean just randomly???

BTW check this thread out, someone got a 4670 working in their 5930G may be hope for us and a 4670 :D :D

Yep. There's no rules with high clocks. Sometimes i play for hours without a crash...And sometimes after 15 minutes boom !!!

    If it's a joke, it's so soooooo cruel :D :D :D :D :D
