    Don't do it first
test the voltages first what will work for his chip may not work for yours.

Actually T7300 undervolts pretty well, in most cases well below 1.000v :) It all depends from the CPU.

Thanks for the GPU undervolting tip, I'll have to figure it out how the ATi one goes, because there are tons of options (ATi Power Play) :D

then why couldn't i go below 1,05V ? Are the voltages locked in the bios ????

Cool ! Let us know about your temps ;-) Especially combined with cpu undervolting ;-) BTW, what's your cpu and what voltage did you manage to reach ???

same as yours,it's a t5800, the voltage was 1,05v and gpu is 0,89v!I've been playing DiRT and max temp of cpu and gpu combined undervolting is 76ºC!ahah!

As I said, it all depends from the CPU. My can't get any lower than 1.000v, this is the last stable voltage, and it's currently running at 1.050v. It's said in the undervolting topic too, some CPUs can undervolt more than others, even if they are both T5750 for example :) T7300 seems to be one of the champions when it comes to undervolting :)

What i wanted to say is that RMclock doesn't allow me to go below 1,05v so i can't know if it's stable below.

Now thats something new, I really don't know. AFAIK it shows 0.950v for every processor out there (mine too), and it's up to your CPU how low it could handle. Interesting indeed, can you post a screen shot?

BTW Many thanks for the GPU undervolting tip. Result - from 1.1v to 0.9v -10ºC :D Well, now it's not stable if I overclock it, but at least it's d**n cool, and the summer is pretty hot here in Spain, so I'll live without OC for a while :D

Yeah problem solved i've found this on the undervolting guide forum :

Go into Regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > RightMark > RMClock > Look for "UnlockVid", if not there, create a 32-bit DWORD value with that name and assign the valuedata as 1. [0x00000001 (1)]

It unlocks the voltages, i have now the choice to go til 0,7125v. I'll see what are my cpu limits ;-)

That's cool. See that's impressive how temperatures fall down without performances loss (at least at stock clocks ;-)) !
I thought that overclocking wouldn't have been stable too with my 0,89V. After all it's more than logical !!! But the fact is i can still overclock til 640/1600/800 Max. It's a little less than before but still i'm surprised !
600/1500/800 seems to be perfectly stable ingame for the moment and give me polar temps ;-)

You're welcome, you've done within 24 hours what I've done in several months lol. That's the beauty of forums ;-)

    Status update:
I was able to undervolt the gpu.
Rabanadas ... thanks for the help on the proper command line to make it work.

I also tried overclocking the gpu to 600/1500/800 ... it worked without faults, but my temps after playing Mass Effect for about 30 mins reached about 78 degrees for the cpu/gpu ... I think I know why (not too big of an issue).
I lowered the clocks to stock ones and retained the lower voltage on the gpu.

Oh ... one other thing ... I tried undervolting the CPU again with CrystalCPUID ... and it would appear that ORTHOS passed almost 10 mins with the max multiplier running at 1.038 V (lower than my previous 1.05 V).

Will run Mass Effect and see how the temps behave this time around.
But if the CPU remains stable at this lower voltage for longer periods while gaming ... then I'll keep it at that (oh and I was able to ascertain how to apply the new voltages automatically without locking the cpu into a single speed/multiplier).

I must say that CrystalCPUID is doing it's job nicely. Far better than RMClock in my opinion.

Overclocking the gpu is nice, however I think I'll just stick to stock clocks for now as it's more than enough.

Although, one thing that DID crop to my mind was to get my hand on some proper cooling paste, open the laptop, remove the 'stock cooling paste' and apply the proper one (which one would be the best to apply again?).
That should help reduce the temps even more because we know how 'stock cooling paste' is not exactly helping matters.

You don't have to lock cpu in a single speed/multiplier in RMclock either. BTW, i'm 1,025V on cpu Deks ;-)

Concerning the command line, mine is nvflash -A -j -4 -5 -6 [name].rom and it always worked til now. But i saw many different ones on forums...

Overclocking is insignificant. It's useless most of the time except for scoring in 3dmarks ;-). I do it less and less now cause it's inefficient in many games.

BTW, Mass Effect has been one of the games that used to heat the most on my lap. Now, it's past ;-) F*cking good game. I loved it !

Hi everyone!I've noticed that my acer doesn't have bluetooth integrated althought it has the button for that function.
I just want to know if anybody here knows here can I buy the hardware to make it work!I have a bluetooth pen but I really want the hardware that should come with the notebook.

If you have a bluetooth pen, then it shouldn't be a problem (btw, I also got the button but no hardware for bluetooth).
However, in terms of purchasing an actual bluetooth hardware for the laptop ... I dunno ... you could check on ebay if it's on sale there, but you'd have to make further inquiries on the forum really before you jump into it.

Some models like mine have it, whilst others don't

You might be able to find the module you need online
The part number should be listed in the service manual and you can look it up on e-bay or something

    Hey guys ...
I played Prototype for a bit on the laptop.
It works pretty good on maxed out settings.
Granted there are some hangups in the FPS here and there, but it's still playable by a high margin.

Also ... the temps didn't go over 77 degrees on gaming (that's without my Zalman cooler).
And the CPU was stable on 1.038V (2.0 Ghz) instead of 1.05V for the max. multiplier ... not to mention the fact I also undervolted the gpu to 0.89V. :D

I wonder just how much will the temperatures drop when I replace the stock thermal paste with a proper one.
Don't you just love to have lower temps all the time?

Yeah I totally love it ;-) How did we do before this ??? Can't remember those harsh days ;-)

I'm on Overlord II settings maxed out plus OC (600/1500), it won't go above 76-77°C too even after more than 3 hours of gaming in a row. That's crazy :D :D :D. Guys, seems like we can play 24h/24h now

Seems like you can throw your cooler into the garbage Deks ;-)
Are you sure that changing the thermal paste would do anything ? Maybe i'll try to get a good one when i'll change my proco this week. Do you know a good one ?

I won't be throwing my cooler into the bin anytime soon my friend.
    I'll keep using it.

As for the thermal paste ...
Well I do think we can lower the temps by another 5 to 10 degrees using a quality paste.
You know that Acer most likely used something cheap like any other company.
For example ... a guy changed his thermal paste in 5920G and noticed a significant reduction in temps.
Of course he also cleaned out his vents and all, but I think that cleaning up the old paste and putting a new quality one both on the cpu and the gpu would be beneficial in the long run.

As for a good paste ...
There's a variety of pastes ... I think there's a thread in Hardware section of the forum that has specific info about the types of pastes out there, their prices and ability to cool down a cpu.

    Last week i cleaned my laptop, and when it's open i thought;

Ah why not i'll change my cooling paste too, but when i started to turn the screws, i found out it is not so easy.. I reccently bought a good screwdriver, but even with this 8 euro costing device, it was no succes.. the screws are very soft, and pretty small and you have to use losts of force..

But however i do think there's a lot to gain here, i saw cooling pads on my NB
Only the CPU and the Chip of the CPU have cooling paste, red somewhere that the paste used, is pretty good, but if you manage to change all the pads, it will be worth it i think.

But it probably will be hell to put everything back, with all the pads and springs in the screws and so on. Let me tell ya it's not so easy as a normal pc, with big motherboard, on mine there was cooling paste everywhere :p

and i have to tell you all, i allready got very low temps, i undervolted my CPU long time ago ([email protected] can't go lower, with no program, i think they are locked at 1volt) Never goes over 65c on CPU, with CSSource for example; 57c Max with GPU then on 65-67c. No cooler no nothing... And when i turn my AIRCO on, it's really ridiculous low.

So someone plz try before me, i don't really have something to complain :D

You know cooler is better. I went pretty long way cooling my lappy, but I still want to be as cool as a corpse :D Changing the thermal paste is well worth it, and believe me, there is no such thing as "good thermal paste in out of the factory lappy" :D Since changing the thermal paste (I'd tried MX-2 and ICD7, but I prefer MX-2) alone lowered my temps with like 10ºC, do you need more prove.

I feel naughty for posting the following:
Been playing Prototype for a while and the temps didn't go over 67 degrees (was playing on my cooler).
    :-D

seriously though, with those kinds of temps right now ... I wonder to what will they drop when I apply a new cooling paste.

Yeah right, i would like to trust you about your so low temps. Maybe they are a little lower than the average 5930G but please don't give CSSource as an example, that's a joke, not a demanding game at all. Try Mass effect or Crysis with settings maxed out on a table without cooler for example and we talk again about your temps ;). It's not gonna be 65°c lol.

Playing Fallout 3 for 3 hours straight tough enough for ya?
Once the highest fan setting kicks in, cpu stays around 63/65c and GPU maxed out on 73c checked with realtemp3 and speedfan..
GTA4 the same as for COD4. Dead space, a little higher with GPU on 75c

But today i undervolted my GPU and we'll see how low they are gonna be now :D switched powermizer off, so that they always be on highest clock and game for real comming weekend!!

Btw sometimes i play CSSource for more then 5 hours straight with a friend we both still like the game :p Thats pretty long for a laptop, and the temps stay as low as i said earlier.. Then the HDD is more of a concern, then it's almost 60c sometimes, no flow there ofcourse :(

Hey Deks, how did you get CrystalCPUID to apply new voltages automatically when the CPU changes clocks? I can only set it to a single speed/multiplier. Also, is there a way to get it to start up automatically when windows boots up? CrystalCPUID also has a tendency sometimes to crash my laptop. I'm definitely doing something wrong.

So far I haven't had any luck undervolting the P7350. Seems like you've cracked it

    It's simple.
    Open up CrystalCPUID.
Click on 'Function', and on 'Multiplier Management'.
Now click on 'File' and 'Multiplier Management setting'
    Click on 'Enable Voltages'.
Set the desired voltages for all three multipliers and click 'Apply' followed up by 'Ok'.
Minimize CrystalCPUID and leave it running.

This way you don't have to lock the cpu to a single multiplier/voltage.

When you restart the computer, simple re-open CrystalCPUID, click on 'Function', followed up with 'Multiplier Management' (so you re-enable your voltages).

You may have to repeat the 'apply - ok' process as well ... but not necessarily.
If you can see the icon from CrystalCPUID in the taskbar near the clock ... and if you hover over it and shows your new voltages, repeating the 'apply-ok' procedure is not necessary.
Just leave the program open and voltages will be applied automatically to the 3 multipliers.

Go to Intel Enhanched Speedstep, there it's very easy and you can make a Desktop sortcut!

I made 2, and even put it on my e-mail and WWW. button on laptop itself, when i start up, i only have to push one button and it's done! no need of running CrystalCPUID..

The trade-off is that you force the cpu to run on that specific multiplier and voltage at all times ... no throttling down when not in use ... which I think reduces battery life for example (don't quote me on that one though)

Since the recovery partition is hidden, you will have to use a program such as G-Parted in order to see the partition in question and manipulate it.
Download and burn G-Parted onto a cd (or possibly try to find a method that allows you to run it from a USB), run it by resetting the laptop and in BIOS setting up the optical drive to run first.
Once you are within G-Parted, look for a small partition.
It should be around 10 GB in size.
You can format it, turn it into a NTFS and of course give it a proper name and make it visible for your use.

    EDIT:

I think the core issue of my image problems are LCD related.
This seems more like initial signs of LCD failures than gpu.
Of course it might just be me.

Btw ... do some of you recall that here in London, John Lewis was offering a 2 year warranty on the laptop?
It would appear that Acer only registers 1 year.
Also, their website which is used for reporting problems is not working properly.
Tried to fill out the form online, describe the issue, and I cannot go past the security check.
The security code I input correctly, but the website constantly reports something is amiss.

Anyway ... I think I might not send this thing to Acer here in UK for repairs, or if I do, I'll just go to a specialized shop and ask them to check and replace the LCD if needed.
Messing with Acer's support is questionable.
I'd rather not do it, but since my lappie is still under warranty then why not.
Disabling the passwords around my OS's is the least of my problems as I don't want this lcd issue to escalate and turn into something far more drastic.

Wow that's very impressive I guess. You have the GPU clock quite high though (725MHz). Is it stable? Do you use the same settings for gameplay?
Many people report here that their laptops are CPU-throttling during gameplay, do you have similar problems?
TehSuigi is trying to convince Acer that the CPU throttling many Acer laptops (mostly Blue Gemstone Series) have, are Acer's BIOS settings. He might be right because your laptop is from the first Gemstone series like mine and I don't notice any throttling unless temps are over 90oC (where the throttling is happening on the graphic card and not the CPU. Since you have the 9600M GT (Lucky that your laptop can take it) and AMD CPU it might be interesting to report any throttling you may notice.

    Exactly.
The different method I described earlier uses CrystalCPUID and applies your custom voltages to 3 different multipliers (which is more than enough) automatically and as a result does not overwrite SpeedStep

Another update on my temps after playing Prototype for a while (around 2 hours or so):
    GPU temp: 63 degrees
    CPU temp: 60 degrees.

    That's with my Zalman cooler.
Not trying to brag btw ... I'm just saying that compared to previous temps these are seriously lower.

Just beware that my notebook is a different model, (5520G) I just hang out here as you guys have similar graphics. Not really stable at those settings, I was just shooting to see how far I could get a bench.

However I do get CPU throtleing and I got a lower voltage CPU (just a better sample) to solve this issue as it runs cooler. TBH I think it reduces speeds correctly as my machine runs hotter than yours do, but its AMD so direct comparisons are maybe invalid.

AMD mobile cpu's run hotter compared to Intel Core 2 Duo's.
It's just how that particular generation was made..
What you could do Meaker is of course undervolt your cpu ... and also undervolt the gpu while you're at it (but uhm ... may I suggest lowering your clocks on the gpu to say 600/1500/800 ?).
If you decide to undervolt the gpu to 0.89V, I cannot guarantee if the new voltage will be stable at the high clocks you have at the moment (I tested it out though on 600/1500/800 and it worked fine).

    Quick question deks

What res. are you maxing prototype on because I can only play it on medium at 1280x800 and there are still lag spikes

And how do you undervolt using CrystalCPUID, can you give a link to download the software???

    Thanks alot

I am maxing it out (no AA though) on 1280x800.
The gameplay is fine for the most part.
There are some lags here and there ... mostly during heavy combats, but still playable.

As for how to undervolt using CrystalCPUID ... check this thread (a page back), or go to Hardware section in the main part of the forums and click on the Undervolt guide thread.
The last 2 or 3 pages should contain the procedure (but I think I will just copy paste it here).
    You can download it here:
    http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html

Here's the procedure on how I used CrystalCPUID:

    Open up CrystalCPUID.
    Click 'Function', and 'Multiplier Management'.

In order to know which of the 3 mutlipliers to use (unless the program detects them automatically ... and it should), use CPU-Z to monitor the cpu under standard use (before using crystalCPUID) both when idle and under load.
That way you will see which multipliers operate on minimum (when idle) and maximum (under heavy load).
Set the min/med/max multipliers in CrystalCPUId, and manipulate their voltages until you find the proper ones that are stable under Orthos stressing.
Use CPU-Z to notice the changes in voltages to the multipliers.
    :)

    Thanks for the info Deks

I tried the prog, but I find the UI complicated and don't like that it doesn't autostart

I have found a thread giving info on how to make RMClock run the CPU at the max multiplier, but if it doesn't work I'll go with CPUID
I'll try in a bit, but here is the link if you are interested
    LINK

Also guys, just UV'd my GPU to 0.89V :D :D
Off to try out prototype and see how it runs

BTW - In nibitor when I checked voltages all of them except extra were already 0.89
    Is this normal???

Yup ... only the extra field should be modified.
As for RMClock modification ... do it if you have the time to fiddle with it.
I personally don't have the time and CrystalCPUID works for me.
Sure it's a bit of a pain to set up at first, but once it's up and running, it gets the job done.

Yeah, but unfortunately I have gotten used to RMClock
I might give it a whirl later to see how it goes

Can't wait to clean out my vents again (out of compressed air) to see what my actual temps are now :D :D

Also looking into getting a cooler, but I am saving up for a new gaming mouse and a 500GB HD ;)

PS - Kallogan, mind if I call mine Alaska as well, it s cool as heck now :D :D

How did you undervolt your gpu ?

Did it run a lot cooler temperatures? Is it stable and won't cause any damage to the GPU ?

    cheers
