My fan is clean mate, juts did it two days ago.
I do it once a month ever since the first time I did it after my GPU hit 97 and memory hit 100![]()
![]()
That much I know![]()
But Deks' temps are low, so I'm wondering which driver he using cuz I think powermizer might not be working properly
J4k, also try undervolting you CPU
There is a guide on these forums, really helped my temps
They dropped by like 12*C under load![]()

Undervolting Guide
-
Deks, what temperature monitoring app are you using? I also have the P7350 and read your post about CPUID not showing the right temperatures for this CPU.
Also.. the fan on my almost 1 year old 5930g has started to make a little whistling noice in the 2nd fan speed phase. Do you think I have to send it in for repair, or do you think support would be so nice to just send me a spare fan? It's thoughroughly clean btw. -
There are a number of monitoring programs you can try and compare to HWMonitor
Core Temp springs to mind, but there are more
As for the fan, it does make a whirring sound as it spins at a faster speed. This is normal, however if it sounds strange to you, definitely ask Acer and see if they will send you a replacement -
Rayyan, thanks for the link... I manage to get the temperature down further..
using CPUID Hardware Monitor, the ACPI temps are: around 48 for normal use...
Core tempt are around 40..
which one do you report here usually, the acpi or core? -
No problem
UVing is great for safely reducing temps
I believe that ACPI actually gives the temps for the memory (RAM) and not the CPU
The CPU temp is the core temp
Idle temps don't drop that much, how much did you reduce your load temps by? -
Idle temp drops about 8C.. from 48-51 to 40-41..
I remember I was playing Mass Effect and the temp soared to >90! Will try in a few days to see the effect when I got time -
Yeah my temps used to go above 90 once
But after undervolting my CPU and graphics card, and ensuring fans are clean I dont usually go above 75-80 -
RaYYaN
Have you removed your fan after opening the laptop?
As people already stated, a lot of dust builds up between the fan and the exhaust vent which you cannot usually see.
You have to remove the fan in order to reach the vent and then clean out that area.
This goes for everyone else who are experiencing overheating issues.
Also, don't game on your lap.
Use a flat surface.
As for the drivers I'm using ...
Well, I installed Dox's 185.85 driver.
I also over-clocked my GPU to 625/900/1550.
Keep in mind I keep my gpu undervolted on 0.89V with those clock speeds (which I got using the Nvidia Control Panel itself rather than bios flashing - that I used for undervolting).
I also usually keep Crystal CPUID running in the background so I can decrease the temp of my CPU.
Without my Zalman Cooler, the temps are at around 71 degrees C under maximum load (with CrystalCPUID reducing the voltage to my CPU).
With the Zalman Cooler, at around 61 degrees C.
My idle temps are standard as far as I can recall.
For GPU, that would be around 45 degrees C.
For CPU, 45 to 50 degrees C.
Regarding the BIOS ... well, as I already stated, if you want the x64 OS to see and use all 4GB, then updating it to 1.23 is a must.
Otherwise, you are limiting your system to 3GB.
I have to say that I really don't get issues with overheating.
And the amount of dust I cleaned out from the vent by removing the fan was not a whole lot (still enough) to increase my temps in any significant fashion.
Perhaps the fact I usually fan the air vents to begin with minimized dust accumulation, so I don't actually have to open up the laptop after a year or so to clean out the inside.
Though as a rule, once a month, once in 6 months or once in a year (depending on the area you live in along with your preference) is enough. -
hello guys i am new one.
I have 5930G about 10mounth, like others it overheat alot, i clean dust 1 time mounth, UV cpu and gpu , but i can`t OC gpu in rivatuner, i tryed alot of driver versions like 185,85 dox, and newest from nvidia, but i can OC only performance 3d, can`t OC max clocks, i dont like to flash bios 10 times a day to test clocks stability, becoze then i rise them in flashing i get dark screen in World of warcraft, other games like crysis, gta4 and 3dmark06 is normal.
Some results: 3dmark06
6401 3DMarks -0.89v 600/1500/900 gpu temp max 72c
5665 3DMarks normal v no OC
- i am not using cooling pad but i like to buy one of Zalman
and maybe can someone offer CPU OC program? i cant find it in bios -
Performance 3d are the max clocks to my recollection.
I OC-ed my gpu to 625/900/1550 under 0.89V using Nvidia Control Panel (no special programs really).
And I never had overheating issues myself.
As for OC-ing the CPU ... well, I personally wouldn't bother with it.
It involves too much hassle right now and the performance gains would be negligible in games for the most part (apart from maybe GTA4).
If you can OC by around 0.6 or 0.7 GhZ and the cpu behaves stable, then it should be ok for the most part.
However, cooling is essential in that case.
I really don't worry too much because for my own needs, the gpu OC is enough to keep me going, and without the Zalman Cooler, my temps would still be in the comfortable early 70-ies degrees C.
Also keep in mind that not all gpu's will OC the same.
Most probably will, but it can vary from system to system.
Your issue with WoW might also be driver related.
Updating potentially to a newer driver such as official 186.81 or .82 might solve the black screen issue. -
So I did a clean install to 64-bit and the system runs much smoother
Anyway, I'm looking for a new undervolting program, since RMClock affects performance.
With it installed, running or not (ending process) it caused my Wprime score to go from 36 secs to 58
Also my 3dMark Cpu score dropped from ~2K to 1500
I tried crystalCPUID, but it doesn't handle low voltages, it crashed at 1V while I used to hit .95 easily on RMClock
So I tried CPUGenie, and it runs my 8.5 multiplier fully stable at .95V even after stress testing
Problem is that its a one month trial
The only other thing is that my CPU idles in the 30 and doesn't go past 65 under load, and the GPU stays in the 70 under load
BUT for some reason my GPU idles at ~50
I don't like it, I would like the idle temp to hit ~40-45 any ideas Deks? -
Actually, my gpu idle temps vary from 45 to 50 deg C most of the time, so I really wouldn't worry about it.
I personally use CrystalCPUID (as previously mentioned).
It may not handle low voltages properly, but I primarily need it to keep max. temps low.
I tried CPUGenie once ... but it gave me grief because I really didn't notice it affecting the voltages at all. -
Guess the gpu temps are fine then
As for CPU, you have a cooler so that takes care of your temps more than UVing, since I don't I want to UV to the max and get the lowest temps.
I'll see if I can get CrystalCPUID to work, since even though CPU genie is good, for some reason it doesn't use all the steps only like 2
Anyway, I'll update this thread with results, as well as posting the results of pushing my GPU to the max it can go at .89 V -
Actually, the UV-ing did lower my cpu temps.
The Zalman Cooler is simply there to further reduce them ... that's why I don't exceed 61 degrees C for the CPU and GPU with Zalman when either gaming or stressing the system to the max ... which is good, because my components aren't really working outside of their parameters to begin with.
As for how much you can push the gpu on 0.89V ... well, I can give you an estimate on what could happen.
My clocks are stable at 625/900/1550 with 0.89V
If I go over that though, I get crashes.
For me, those are the highest stable clocks I can reach with 0.89V (so did Kallogan).
So basically I reached 9700m GT GDDR3 level with this.
And besides, the 9600m GT GDDR3 (the gpu that comes with this laptop) is the factory underclocked 9700m GT GDDR3 to begin with. -
Have you guys tried using ThrottleStop yet to control your voltages?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=452692
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/3/1794507/ThrottleStop.zip
For temperature monitoring you might want to check out RealTemp 3.56
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/3/1794507/RealTempBeta.zip
Before adjusting the multiplier with ThrottleStop remember to adjust the voltage first to a safe number to prevent a BSOD.
This program can also allow you to force chipset clock modulation to 100% which is a method used in the bios to slow down some Acer laptops. ThrottleStop is a very light weight program so once you get it set up it shouldn't consume too many resources, it works with Windows 7 x64, supports the half multipliers in the 45nn Core 2 CPUs as well as all of the newer Core i7/i5/i3 CPUs and best of all, it's free!
RealTemp should be able to read and log your CPU and GPU temperatures so give it a try too. Same price.
Hopefully you guys can post some feedback. If you have any problems or questions just ask.
Edit: I noticed quite a few pages ago some talk about IDA. That stands for Intel Dynamic Acceleration mode. The way this works on a Core 2 mobile CPU is that when one core goes to sleep, the other core can automatically use a slightly higher multiplier.
On a P8400 for example, it has a default multiplier of 8.5 and an IDA multiplier of 9.0. To get the other core to go asleep when the CPU is lightly loaded you have to enable C-States or C3/C6 in the bios. When running a single threaded task, one core will use the 9.0 multiplier while the other core is asleep. As soon as the second core wakes up to process some background activity, the maximum multiplier for both is limited to 8.5. When the background activity is taken care of, that core goes back to sleep and the multiplier can go back to 9.0. This is handled automatically by the CPU and this can cycle back and forth like this hundreds of times a second. Because of this, most software does not correctly report IDA but ThrottleStop can.
If you run a single threaded benchmark like Super PI mod, you should see an average multiplier on the hardest working core up around 8.8 or 8.9 while the core that is mostly asleep will average about 8.5. How fast your CPU runs depends on how much background activity is going on waking up the second core. Use a little extra core voltage when testing this out for the first time. RMClock is a great program but since it doesn't properly support the half multipliers it also doesn't properly support IDA on many of these 45nm Core 2 CPUs. Post a ThrottleStop screen shot half way though a Super Pi bench so I can have a look.
On the other Acer laptops it wasn't heat killing performance but it was actually chipset clock modulation that was cutting in sometimes. When this item is not checked in ThrottleStop, you can run a log file and see if this is an issue for your computer while gaming. Any reading less than 100% in the ThrottleStopLog.txt file is a sign of a problem. On the other Acer models reducing core voltage delayed this problem but it didn't eliminate it. -
I can now UV to 0,987 VID at 7.5 FID. The "problem", as RaYYaN told us, is that it's not for free. -
Hmz nice thing is nvidia system tools, i got diferent profiles to diferent aplications - then i run wow.exe it under clock me gpu to normal, other time OC
-
Also for coding this great program
Now I will definitely test this app, getting it right now and I will read the thread you linked to before starting.
Our CPUs haven't had any stuttering / throttling issues thus far, than god
The reason I undervolt is imply to keep temps low, both while idling and while gaming
I will fully adopt Throttlestop and foget all other apps if it can do the following:
--Start at boot up
--Allow me to choose a custom voltage for each multiplier
--Enable multiplier management, whereby CPU automatically downclocks to a lower multiplier and voltage when idling, thereby reducing temps more -
Just tried the program Unclewebb, and I'm not too sure on what settings I should set to get the desired results I mentioned above
Some help would be much appreciated -
RaYYaN: At the moment, ThrottleStop is a simple solution directed at the Dell laptops with Core i7 CPUs that throttle like crazy with clock modulation and reduced multipliers. TS is a work in progress for Core 2 CPUs and does not yet have all the features you would like to see.
To start a program at boot up I always use the Task Scheduler. That's the appropriate way to start items in Vista or Windows 7. Here's a tutorial.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3970161&postcount=3657
If you are an Administrator on your account then you could also drag a link to ThrottleStop into your StartUp folder. I'm not a big fan of modifying a user's registry even if they ask me to so I hope one of these methods works for you.
I plan to look into custom voltages for each multiplier.
When you first start ThrottleStop it is in monitoring mode. Check the Log File option and then go play a game. Make sure that Chipset clock modulation is not a problem for your computer. I'm pretty sure that Acer also uses this technique on these laptops but if under volting is working well for you then it might not be an issue. It's always good to run a log file to make sure.
With some feedback, I'll look into adding more features for you and your Acer friends. -
I have never had games drop suddenly into low framerates, even back when my temps used to go into the 90s when I wasn't under volting
So I don't think I have throttling issues, anyway the next time I play a game I will definitely run it in logging mode, and PM you the log file/ post it here so you can get some info on our pcs?
Thanks again for continuing to develop this (+ rep)

what best gpu i can put to me acer?
-
Pretty Sure its the one that comes (9600m GT)
I think the 4670 ddr3 might be better but it might not work -
anyone have a guide how to open CPU/GPU HSF on 5930G ? I know how to do it on desktop. Is it much harder on laptop ?
-
I think it is same.
-
guys anyway to get the subwoofer to work with the realteck drivers because the acer driver has that crackling sound
thanks guys -
Question to Deks. What are you using to set voltages to your GPU and for OC?
-
To undervolt the GPU you need to flash the Vbios
this is done by booting from a Usb and flashing from there
You need to make the flash disk bootable, then load nvflash onto it.
After that, dump GPU BIOS using GPUz, open it using nibitor, editing the voltage then saving this bios as a .rom file
This needs to go to the root directory of the flash
Those are the basic steps
There was a link to a more detailed guide posted in this thread, I'm tired ATM, but I'll give you the link directly tommorow
As for OCing the GPU, we use nVidia nTools, which you can get from the nVidia site.
After installing, right click > nVidia control panel> performance, accept the agreement, and then you will be able to change clocks from within the control panel.
Save the profile when you are done, and choose to load that profile on sartup
Hope this helps, welcome to NBR -
Exactly what RaYYaN mentioned.
I undervolted the GPU through BIOS flashing, and OC-ed it to 9700m GT level through the Nvidia Control Panel (I'm not entirely certain, but in order to get this function, I think you must separately install something so the option shows there).
In any event, the 9600m GT in this laptop is actually a factory underclocked 9700m GT to begin with, while everything else is identical (gpu wise of course). -
guys is it worth it to undervolt and overclock the gpu and the cpu?
and what is the possibility to damage the hardware ?!
waiting for the link RaYYaN
thanks -
It is most definitely worth it to undervolt the gpu and cpu.
I lost about 15 to 20 degrees as a result.
I also only OC-ed the gpu to 9700m GT stock level so I can further gain on 3d performance.
The cpu I was unable to OC, but right now it's not really needed.
Bottom line, yes, I think the gains definitely justify the undervolt. -
This Is The LINK!!!!
Great guide that gives you everything you need.
When it says to change clocks in Nibitor, instead go to Voltages and change the 3D voltage
I am running fully stable at 0.89V, and I can also OC a bit.
Have fun guys
My temps used to go up to 92*C
After undervolting, I don't go above 72*C under load at stock clocks
So a 20*C drop -
Thanks lads thought the thread had died long time ago
Got everything done already except the undervolting GPU. Don't really need it I think as my max temps are about 80 degs after some 'heavy' gaming on exactly the same specs as Deks (same drivers, same OS, same uv'd CPU, 4Gb ram +zalman). I mean would you loose a bit of performance by UV gpu I wonder?
Anyhow flashed 9600 GT bios with nibitor long time ago. Stopped at 600/1500/950 on both Extra and 3D setting and I had some stability issues on 32bit systems with games crashing on different stages (randomly like lets say Far Cry 2 crushed after 5 min on one occasion and then after an hour with the same settings) but I decided to live with it. But after changing the OS to win7 ultimate x64 everything is perfect so far. -
This simply reduces excess voltage going to the GPU, and hence reduces the max GPU temps.
Under clocking affects performance, as the clocks are lowered
Most 5930 owners who have undervolted to 0.89V have also been able to OC to some extent (less than on normal voltages, as it crashes due to lower voltage) and be stable. -
Are you saying that the GPU clocks I have now may not be stable with the new lowered voltage, let's say 0.89V?
-
Its possible
I recently, started testing the max OC on my GPU at 0.89V
It takes so long to test, so I don't know if these are the max clocks, but I am running stable at 590/875/1475 core/mem/shader -
Darathorn
If you undervolt your gpu to 0.89V at those clocks, it's possible they won't be stable.
Primarily because you pushed your memory to 950.
When I did that on 0.89, the clocks were unstable (simple crash).
I'm running my GPU on 0.89V, and my stable clocks are the following:
Core: 625
Memory: 900
Shader: 1550
Kallogan has the same clocks if I'm not mistaken on the same 0.89V.
I used his/her's as a test-bed for my gpu, and turns out they both have the same threshold (for the most part).
Well, they should because the laptops are the same, but at the same time, individual component vary on OC potential despite the fact they might be identical.
My clocks are slightly above stock 9700m GT if I'm not mistaken ... then again, the 9600m GT is a 9700mGT to begin with.
why pay more for a name when hardware wise they are the same thing, only with different clocks?
Capitalism ... man do I hate it. -
and sir, how to use the turbocache on this machine? -
lemmor ... the gpu in this laptop is a dedicated one, and therefore it comes with its own 512Mb GDDR3 RAM.
Your gpu will use as much is needed ... but I can tell you right now that there is a very high possibility the gpu won't really be using over it's original 512Mb (and in fact, it cannot do so in an efficient manner due to main bus bandwidth limitations).
More video ram (and especially shared one) doesn't mean automatically better performance and whatnot.
It's just a gimmick to lull people using big numbers who then misunderstand horribly.
The 1791Mb video ram is just a statement how the gpu is able to share up to that much by borrowing from system RAM (which is incredibly inefficient when it comes to games and is usually done so by Integrated gpu's).
However, that scenario will probably never happen to begin with.
And besides ... the system itself assigns as much RAM is needed to the Integrated or even perhaps a dedicated gpu ... you cannot really control this, unless there's a BIOS option for it.
Howver, the point is, it would be as if you are using a 1GB shared video ram on integrated gpu in an attempt to play Crysis.
End result?
The game will run horribly ... because the gpu is weak ... and adding more (system) memory to it doesn't fix the problem.
As for turbocache ... that's just something that's been existing for a while now and is integrated into the hardware.
It basically kicks in automatically - as needed. -
Hi guys, i am new here but i have been reading this thread all the week and it's great to have a thread of our personal model of laptop with expert people ready to help us
.
I have a 5930G for about a year and a half and i have also noted the overheating problem so i bought the Enermax Aeolus cooling pad. But i only use it for gaming beacuse it's a little uncomfortable, so whenever I don't use it, it always end's up overhating. So some weher in this thread i read to clean the heatsink, i did it but not solve a lot...
So now I'am trying to undervolt my CPU but i have some doubts:
1 - the RMclock does not recognize completely my P8400. Any problem?
2 - I have UV the 8x to 0.9625V its stable for the moment. I have to UV the 6x & 7x to ?¿ or simply put them also to 0.9625V ?
3 - RaYYaN what do you do to solve the 8,5x (2.26 GHz) problem, or you simply stay at 8x (2.128 Mhz)?
4 - RMclock always have to remain open in tray?
And some other doubts:
- I cant find anywhere the Crystal eye HD software which allows me to record in 720P.
- Iv installed the realtek drivers in compatibility mode but the sound its really disturbing, it has an robotic echo efect... (and I think its the first time I listen the subufer of this lap working)
- And my battery died after 8~9 moths, now it only haves 14652 mWh of capacity, that's relay sad... That's normal?
---
Thnx!!! -
Mannu66
Regarding your overheating issues.
It's quite possible the problem is related to dust build-up and nothing else.
You mentioned after all that the laptop is over a year and a half old.
What I would recommend is that you buy some compressed air in a can, and use it on the laptop's air vents.
Alternatively, open up the bottom larger panel of the laptop, unscrew the fan and move it to the side (but do not disconnect it's wires from the motherboard) and clean it along with the dust at the base of the air-vent (which you can only reach by removing the fan, and is where most dust builds up).
As for undervolting ... RMClock is first and foremost OLD.
It has issues recognizing half multipliers, and as a result, the undervolting ends up also underclocking the cpu (not by much, but still).
I think there's a workaround for this problem, but I cannot recall which one.
I personally use CrystalCPUID for CPU undervolting.
Cannot go below 1.038V with it, but it's enough since my maximum CPU temps don't exceed 70 degrees under heavy load (60 degrees with my Zalman Cooler turned on).
As for Crystal Eye HD software that allows you to record in 720p ... well, I was unable to find it either.
Although, you can try with the one's from Acer's website.
Regarding the audio drivers ... the robotic effect existed on my speakers as well ... at least for a time, but that was for the first few months, and only in certain (rare) situations.
As for the battery ... are you sure it's dead?
What exactly did you use to test that premise?
My battery is fine after almost year and 4 months. -
thanks for the reply sir decks, that enlightened me. so, that means i cannot play crysis on high settings with a smooth gaming?! by the way, i overclocked my 5930g using ntune. i didnt do it on bios coz i think its very dangerous in my part so i used ntune so that i can change back again to normal.. and i dowloaded nvidia drivers on laptopvideo2go but i cant install it,, it says that its not compatible. what should ido? my laptop is p8400 same as sir ryan..
-
sirs is it safe to use laptop while charging? what if, its fully charged and you continue to use the laptop with the ac adapter plug on? will that affect the laptop battery? i can use my laptop for 1 hour with only a battery (not playing games or watching movies) but i have read that you can use the 5930g laptop for 3 hours (not playing games).
-
Lemmor, the drivers from LaptopVideo2go usually require a modified inf. to be inserted into the extracted files before you install them.
A set of instruction is written on the website which tell you how to integrate it.
That, or you can try finding Dox's modified drivers on that page (version 185.85 if I'm not mistaken).
Or simply go to Nvidia's webpage, and download the mobile drivers for 9m series gpu (version number 186.81. ... I think you have to get them from their archive).
And yes of course it is safe to use the laptop while the battery is charging.
I do that with mine all the time and I actually never remove my battery.
Batteries when fully charged will not continue to keep charging, and they were designed to be plugged into the laptop at all times to begin with.
As for your battery life ....
Keep in mind that your screen brightness can radically reduce your battery charge.
I get about 2 hours and 10 mins on my battery with the screen completely dimmed down and using power saver option.
I think it used to be close to 2 hours and 45 mins on the same settings (when I first got the laptop).
Advertisements can be deceiving, so I wouldn't count on full 3 hours really with a completely new laptop.
My laptop is a year and 4 months old.
Battery wear happens, so it's not surprising I lost about 30 mins.
On some laptops, battery wear will be minimal, on others moderate, and finally some will exhibit heavy battery wear.
It's all relative.
When on battery, in order to maximize it's longevity and get close to those advertised numbers, you have to set your power options to 'power saver' and reduce screen brightness down to minimum. -
OK thanx Deks
, I cleaned the dust between the heatsink and the fan a few months ago, but I will do it again.
Concern to CrystalCPUID, there's any guide to UV with? And did you also UV the lower multipliers like 6x & 7x?
I wonder what did RaYYaN to manage the half multiplier issue and stay at 0.95v with his P8400 which is same as mine.
Here's my battery info:
It only works 5 min. in Economic energy option in Win7 64.
And the subbuffer problem it's like if it's on full power and it's sound disturbing, any solution? or it's fixes with time?
And also I my card reader reads SD cards but doesn't read xD cadrs!!! (Iv installed the JMicron drivers.)
BTW!! has anyone make the acer drivers Recovery DVD? because I lost it and I think it has the acer Crystal Eye HD software.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
but sir, i use my laptop using the dimmest setting on power saver mode but still i only got an hour using,, so i think ive got to live with it.. by the way, whats the best driver so far in laptopvideo2go? im using windows 7..
ive searched the doxs modified driver but i couldnt find it.. they dont have a search button so that makes hard ti find. -
i try to download the inf files but all i see are text files. where to find instructions on how to integrate in to the driver? ive search but with no luck. i only found "what is modified inf" but theres no instructions on it.
thank you sir -
-
That's correct.

i played nba 2k10 on this lappy.. i finished it with smooth gaming in medium setting but recently, it lags for about 15 secs and then smooth gaming again and lags again. it never happen to me before, what seems to be the problem? i got dizzy when the games lags more often..
