Has anyone experienced that their touchmediapads to the right of the keyboard stop working? I got my computer 2 days ago and it just stopped working. Along with very bad speakers (they are crackling at a rather high volume)...

    Any ideas about the touchkeys?
I know the Empowering button and mediacenter button don't work when launch manager is off, but that doesnt apply to the touchkeys :/

ok i want to ask all who have vista is it working good?and is it premium or ultimate?
because i had the premium one and it was very very bad,but someone told me the ultimate one is great
so i need your opinion do i stay with xp or put vista ultimate?
because in xp first of all some things that were on vista are not working, second the directx i think it makes difference in games, third the games made for vista like tomb raider underworld etc i dont think they will work good on xp
so plz everyone i need your opinion

and arremannen: the touchmediapads for me are not working correctly since i put xp but before that they were great, and the sound i have the same problem when its high its cracking from the right
so for the sound i think its normal but the touchmediapads i dont know if someone else have problems with it

I'm using my 5930 with my Sennheiser HD202.
    Listenning mp3s with aimp2 player.
    I'm hearing cracking sounds sometimes.
    And I hate this.

I hope a new sound driver can fix it.

You don't meet the minimum system requirements?
    That's absurd.
Recheck the link I posted and read the lower parts to see what OS is required, not to mention the txt file.

Try going to the Acer website and downloading/installing the chipset software from there (try this one first before you go with the second option I posted below).
It's a slightly older version, but it should do the trick (chipset should go prior to the SATA)
After you have done that and installed it, try installing the Intel Matrix storage device (SATA drivers).

Also make sure after you have installed the sata drivers to re-enable AHCI in BIOS.

Although ... you could try downloading/installing this:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...73&DwnldId=16023&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng

    It's the newest chipset driver.
Perhaps the previous link I posted was not good (as I think it only contained the inf files for developers).
I think we have to use this specific file for installing the newest chipset version.

Try installing that file (chipset) and THEN the SATA drivers.
    And don't give up.

The link I posted in that part you quotes IS for PM45 chipset.
I have the same one after all.

Follow the instructions from the text you quoted and you should (hypothetically) be fine.

    hey guys (and galls)
i'm also from egypt and I decided to get the 5930G and i'll probably pick it up in a couple of weeks but i still have a couple of concerns
    >is the cpu upgradable to a p9500 or t9600 and whats the difference between a t and a p core 2 duo ?

    >is the 320 HDD a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive (the idiotic beings in the store don't know any >_<

    >is the ram upgradable to 8 Gb ?

say i upgraded this puppy to a 9500 and put a 7200 rpm drive will the temps increase drastically ?

and kikso how is the warranty in virgin cuase in compume they give you a 1 year limitewd and accidental damage warranty and how much did it cost ya ?

oh and the specs i found are pretty good i think
    p8400
    4 Gb ram
    320 Gb HDD
    9600m GT
    15.4''
    dvd drive
and all the usual stuff but no fingerprint reader

i'm happy there is another egyptian here :D
well first of all i asked about this upgrading thing they told me here in egypt we dont upgrade, but in other countries they do upgrade everything
and when i asked if i can upgrade the cpu or the mb cache they said you will have to change the whole motherboard to do that and no one does it in egypt lol
oh and the rams they said i cant upgrade because there are only 2 slots each one has a 2gb ram so its the maximum
so i guess if i want to change the cpu,mb cache, rams i will have to change the whole motherboard and i dont think its necessary because it works great like that
the warranty they just stamp the receit where its written what you bought, its 1 year like any other place
but really i couldnt just leave it because when i saw it before and didnt get it,next week i went and it was finished,so this time it was alreadey the last one so i had to take it XD
the specs i have the same but the HDD 250 and i also have no fingerprint,i guess here they get the ones without fingerprint only lol

by the way i'm still waiting for the windows answer XD

    Ok kids first and foremost:

The difference between T and P Core2Duo ... P is newest technology. It requires less power, produces less heat, operates on a faster FSB, has slightly higher cache and improves battery life.

The 320GB hdd inside the 5930 is usually 5400 rpm (but this isn't necessarily a bad thing because many 320GB 5400rpm hard drives have several platters making them virtually identical in speed compared to some older 7200 rpm drives.

I asked a question if the ram is upgradeable to 8GB before. People here told me it's not possible because there are only 2 slots inside the laptop itself.
However, let's keep in mind that there are 4GB in just 1 slot as far as desktops are concerned.
If there's a possibility the manufacturers make DDR2 RAM for notebooks so that each slot has 4GB ... I guess there's a possibility we could put them inside our laptops (but then later, we are faced with a potential problem of bios support ... meaning that even if we can cram in 8GB of RAM inside, if the BIOS won't support it, it won't work).

    Dante ...
The specs you found are pretty good.
I'd take that one if I were you.

When it comes to upgrading laptop components ... well whoever at that store said you have to replace the motherboard in order to upgrade anything (sans the RAM for the time being) is (with all due respect) ignorant in this aspect.
The following components can be upgraded in the laptop:
RAM - for now up to 4GB and 800Mhz DDR2 (although possibly DDR3 given the fact the chipset itself should support it).
CPU - probably up to X9100 (maybe higher ... depending really, since 5930G comes with the latest PM45 chipset - or at least mine did - which probably leaves room for more upgrades in the future).
HDD - you can upgrade with a better SATA II hard drive with 7200rpm or even put an SSD drive (if you have the money for it).
GPU - most likely is upgrade-able given the fact there's good possibility it's not soldered to the motherboard (I think Acer doesn't generally do that and this particular laptop shouldn't be different), however, you will have to find an MXM II card which is more powerful than 9600m GT, and I think that for the next year or possibly 2 when it comes to playing numerous games ... it's not needed).

I think the DVD drive is also upgrade-able. Well in terms if something goes wrong with the existing one, you can open up the laptop, remove the DVD drive and replace it with a new (possibly faster if it exists) one (or probably a Blu-Ray drive if the interface is compatible - in most cases it should be - and the price is in your range).

I think that about covers it.

    As for the Windows question.
I'm not exactly sure. For the moment I'm using Home Premium (which I intend to change), but yes, I would say Ultimate might be a better choice compared to Home Premium.
Plus, maybe you'd be better off installing a 64bit version if you already have 4GB RAM.
It might also yield in better performance and you are essentially future-proofing yourself.

Virtually everything you need works on XP just fine.
The Empowering technology is practically useless because the same functions exist within Windows themselves, you just have to find them (the Empowering software is nothing but a bloat if you ask me).
Granted that Vista has power modes which are made for the battery, but you can set XP to virtually same levels by lowering screen brightness (which is the main culprit of draining battery).

In any case, if I'd pick Vista, I would go with Ultimate, and most likely a 64bit version.
Although to tell you the truth I think a better choice would be to stick with XP for the moment and just switch to Windows 7 when it comes out (which is everything that Vista should have been ... overall, a vast improvement).

There aren't that many differences between Home Premium and Ultimate version aside from some minor features.
If you make a clean install of Home Premium itself, it should be adequate for your needs.

If you upgrade to P9500 (P9600 has yet to be released) and 7200rpm hdd, the temps shouldn't be affected.
The P9500 uses same amount of power as P8400 and a lot of new 7200rpm drives are actually more efficient than some 5400rpm drives and will probably emit same or lower temperatures.

You should be good either way.

    A note for the gamers:
Don't play games with the laptop in your lap.
You are obstructing the air vents below and in effect contribute to higher temperatures.
It's best to keep the laptop on a flat surface at all times so it has and air flow beneath it.

You get the best of both worlds like that :D
When your leg doesn't cover the vents, the air flow isn't obstructed at all, so temps are normal.

Trust me, this comes from the master of sofa gaming :p

That's what the other leg is for :p

For the record, mine didn't come with a finger print scanner either,
and I didn't have the option of upgrading

I bought it in Saudi Arabia, form Jarir, and when I asked if they upgraded, he actually laughed and said it's a laptop not a desktop
I wanted to smack that fool  ;)
Also, my warranty is also 1 year

    @Dante
    Good luck dude(et)

From what I've heard, Dox's custom 180.70 is the best

I am using it and it improved performance for me in most games, and got ris of the stuttering in NFS
I also haven't had any problems with it yet

I think you should install those and see

I've been using Dox's 180.70 drivers myself for a while now.
    No issues whatsoever.
Even the sleep mode works fine on my laptop.

On the other hand, today I just installed 180.84 (1.1 revision) because Dox apparently further optimized them compared to previous drivers (which is pretty good if you ask me).
Still haven't had a chance to test them out, but I'm pretty sure they'll be fine.
    :)

I'm running SP2 (Vista Home Premium) on my laptop.
The boot times still aren't stellar, but the system itself seems to be behaving.

    Which just reminded me:
Guys ... what were your boot times when you first got the laptop with Home Premium?
For some reason after cleaning up the system of all the Acer trash, optimization, boot file defrag, system defrag and all, my boot times remain rather high (about just less than 90 seconds).
Any explanation as to why this might be so?

I was thinking on re-installing anyway (with Ultimate) and slipstream SP2 (pre-beta) onto the installation disc in the process (because apparently with SP2 installed, Vista takes up about 10GB less space).

On a side note, I installed Win 7 (for testing purposes) on my (just over) 5 year old desktop.
I must say the OS works fine for a pre-beta (it does have it's quirks, but it's to be expected, and it's nothing major).
I was thinking on putting it as well onto my 5930G laptop. :D
But I don't think I'll do that just yet (as I'd prefer to put a fully released version).

It is recommended you do so.
Also cleaning up the registry afterward with CCleaner or TuneUP utilities (or even Driver Cleaner) is the way to go before you install new version.

    :)

I haven't installed Win7 on this laptop though.
I think I'll wait for that until the full version is available.

I've tried it, i'm currently dual booting Win7 and Vista. I do like it, seems snappier than vista. The GUI looks very similar to vista apart from a couple of little bits, but it think this is only to be expected, the gui from what I understand is one of the last things to be changed.

There are a couple of little annoyances but this is because it's the beta, but things like volume dial not working, little things. But apart from that it's good, I like it a lot and can't wait for the full release.

Give it a go, definatley worth it.

Has anyone other experienced a sweeping dazzle across the screen when watching a movie or playing a game (sudden motions) ?? I've got the original drivers, tried turning v-sync off and my limitation seems to be 60 Hz. My mate also has the exact same computer (bought on the same day/same place) and he hasn't done anything different, and isn't apparently experiencing the same problem. Any ideas?

I made a seperate partition on my hdd before I installed win7, and installed it on that, obviously it asks you during setup where you want to install.

Once installed, when you power up your laptop, it should give you an option of what O/S you want to run.

I personally use latest Realtek drivers.
Go to www.realtek.com, click on 'downloads', and then on 'High Definition Audio Codecs (Software)'.

Agree to the terms of conditions and select the latest XP or Vista driver (whichever OS you use).

The only issue I ever experienced with my 5930G before updating the sound drivers was that the sound was degrading on rare occasions.
It would appear the problem went away.

Btw ... to other 5930G users ... what are your boot times after you removed all the Acer garbage?
My boot time is about 84 seconds.

Just so you know, there is a new BIOS (1.23) at Acer's FTP. It fixes problems with RAM allocation, i now have full 4GB instead of 3GB I had on 1.21.

Also, Deks - Does your internal subwoofer work after you install generic drivers from realtek's site? Mine works only when I install those outdated ones that are on acer's site.
