Nope.
My subwoofer doesn't work with generic Realtek drivers either.
Sigh ... this is stupid.
Why doesn't Acer update those drivers?
Btw ... 'slowmotiony', you got your 5930G with 4Gb ram and the BIOS didn't recognize them properly?
Which OS did you use exactly and did you upgrade the ram yourself, or got the laptop already with maxed out ram?
Any troubles while you updated the bios?
Oh ... is there any kind of a utility for backing up older bios version just in case?
-
Deks - This is a known issue for all OSes and configs - BIOSes up to 1.21 were not able to allocate 4GB of ram and therefore your OS could only use 3 (check it for yourself in everest or something). I was pissed and repeatedly contacted Acer regarding this, and after a week they came up with a fix.
And no, no troubles whatsoever, but do it from your USB DOS bootdisk just to be sure it can't go wrong. As for the old bioses- all of them are also at acer's ftp so there is no need for you to back up anything. -
No ... I was refering to backing up the 1.21 bios that I presently have for example so I can re-flash the bios to it if the new one doesn't take.
Well, my 5930G came with 3Gb, but I will upgrade to 4GB soon and probably replace the OS with a 64bit one.
-
As I said, you can download the 1.21 and reflash just in case, but it WILL take, don't worry about it.
-
Where do I download the newest GPU drivers for the 9600M GT? Tried Nvidias homepage but the file there says it can't find any drivers that are compatible with the Nvidia hardware.... pretty stupid since the actual setup is the driver? Anyone?

the specs for sims 3:
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR LAPTOPS:
FOR WINDOWS XP (Service Pack 2)
* Pentium IV 2.4 GHz / Athlon XP 2400+ or equivalent
* 1.5GB RAM of Memory
* GeForce Go 6200 / Radeon mobile 9600 with at least 128 MB of RAM
FOR WINDOWS VISTA
* Pentium IV 2.4 GHz / Athlon XP 2400+ or equivalent
* 2 GB RAM of Memory
* GeForce Go 6200 / Radeon mobile 9600 with at least 128 MB of RAM
is it going to work?
i'm worried about the processor
i will put vista ultimate ultra lite is it good? -
2 kikso our cpu is core 2 duo, its 3 times higher then pentium 4. Don't worry about lower clocks...
-
thanks alot vorob
ok i put windows vista ultimate lite
till now its great,i will still install all the drivers again -
just curious, is 5930G sub = booster like 6920G or true subwoofer ?
considering it also doesn't work like 6920G + realtek driver. -
Just a bass booster ... nothing too special, but can be handy actually for providing slightly better sound (as far as laptops are concerned).
Btw ... I have a question.
I realize the maximum amount of supported ram in 5930G is 4GB, however, there are 4gb ddr2 sticks for laptops as well.
So i was thinking, is there any possibility to cram in 6 or 8GB into this laptop for better usage under 64bit OS?
It should be possible, provided of course Acer writes a BIOS for this laptop that would support that amount of RAM (which you can never have too much of anyway).
Unless of course the latest BIOS 1.23 already supports that? -
is there updated suyin webcam driver ? mine a bit dark
-
well i again instaled xp and again i do it as you directed and again i got the same error as before.... i dont meet minimum requirements... but this time i dont care lol.... the xp i got from a friend is simply amazing and im even dual booting with windows 7 which i can tell you now is a vast improvement on vista... ... i wanted to ask about how can extract those sata drivers from the file you linked me to i might if i get time try once more and do the f6 and install from a usb stick but ill see but of course it would be easier to have the right files lol... thanks again
-
Hello.
I've been keeping a track of this laptop for a while, but most places that actually have had it have completely sold out and I am unable to find anywhere that stocks the laptop.
I'm mainly interested in the LX.AQ40X.040 model. Does anyone know where I could still find this model?
Thanks. -
well here is a suprising turn of events i found the minimum sys requirements on an older version of the driver you told me about and i somehow dont meet them... so i used that little cpuz thing you linked me to and i searched using the name it said and i finaly found the drivers on of all places.... a lenovo website lol.... so now its working perfect... all in all a good day... sata loaded and widows seven working a treat
-
Oh I know Windows 7 is great.
I installed in on my 5 year old desktop. Worked far better than Vista does on this laptop.
But I had issues with my sound card as it's a SoundBlaster Live card, so the drivers were a real mess (because Creative discontinued support for those cards).
So yesterday I reverted to a modified XP SP3 on the desktop (which visually looks like Vista essentially and has a few modifications for better performance overall).
Works perfect, and is extremely fast (which is only to be expected).
I'm probably going to install that same XP on this laptop and let you all know on how it went (and how it behaves).
I don't think there should be too much trouble (but as usual, there is always a possibility).
Btw 'werewolfery', there is a possibility that the SATA drivers from Intel site failed to install because you didn't have a specific software from Microsoft installed.
Such as latest 'Microsoft .net framework', or another piece of software that isn't really included in the Automatic updates.
I was unable to install Windows Office 2007 on my dad's computer because it lacked a 3.1 Installer (a clean install of XP SP2 unfortunately).
Could you do me a favor and post the exact link of the Lenovo website on where you found the SATA drivers that worked for you?
You know ... just in case (but I also wouldn't put past the possibility that you didn't get the same chipset as I did for example - because there is apparently another version of 5930 sold on www.laptopsdirect.co.uk, and it houses a T5750 (2Ghz) cpu.
Not a Centrino2, but a regular Centrino Core2Due which comes with a different chipset (while other specs remain mostly the same).
Could you open up Cpu-Z and take a screen-shot of the part where it describes your chipset?
It says 'PM45' (which is the latest Montevina chipset) in mine. -
You are probably not talking to me, but I thought I would check any way.
I also have the "PM45"
Here is the screenshot:
PS - how do you measure your boot time as I want to compare it to mine -
your also right about the microsoft net frame work i didnt have that installed at all so maybe if people are stuggling they should try that first....
here is the link for the page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70477.html
and one for the ftp it downloads from

How ... and WHY?
My boot times are in the 85 seconds range even after I cleaned out the Acer trash, optimized, vista, defragmented the hdd, cleaned out and optimized registry.
Sheesh.
I guess it's merely my own case then.
Hopefully an OS re-installation will do the trick.
Btw ... I measured my boot times with a little exe file called BootTimer.
also ... no one answered my question from the page or two earlier about maximum ram and possibilities for expanding the memory beyond 4 GB.
Thoughts would be appreciated. -
I shall get boottimer and give it a go
As for your RAm question.
I'm not too much of a techie person(Still learning
)
But if they create 4gb laptop sticks then I'm sure a BIOS update or such could be implemented so the laptop supports 8GB -
It should be possible if the bios supported it.
4GB in a single stick for laptops (DDR2 flavor) do exist.
They are merely rare for now and expensive (Kingston has it for $560 from what I was able to see just now).
I found a thread from here which is about 5 months old and has this link:
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/con....asp?root=us&LinkBack=&ktcpartno=KTL-TP667/4G
$560 for a single DDR2 4GB stick.
That's extremely expensive regardless of the fact it's for laptops.
The question remaining now is ... can Acer make a bios that supports 8GB RAM for this laptop?
I would love to upgrade to 8GB of RAM on my 5930 over the next year because then I could use a 64 bit OS without a fuss (it would be worth installing if you have over 4 GB of memory really in my opinion). -
-
Then I would say that pre-installed Vista is a no-go.
There is a very good possibility that our boot times would be in the range of 30 to 45 seconds (perhaps 50) with a clean Vista install (let alone XP).
Acer messed something up or the OS was configured incorrectly.
I get far better boot times on my 5 year old desktop with a fresh install of XP SP3 that essentially has same things starting up with it as my pre-installed Vista on this laptop does. -
Agreed. Pre-installed OS is definitely the problem, my 5 year old laptop (with athlon 3000+ CPU) on a clean XP SP2 install boots up in about 30 seconds with essentially the same stuff.
Unfortunately I don't have a copy of vista or the time atm to do a fresh install. There must be a way around it. Any software available that might help? I've defragmented my boot files but there isn't any noticeable improvement. -
ok i did a little test..... from power on through the boot menu and then on to windows xp desktop when eveything is loaded is 1minute and 37 seconds but to be fair the from about 44 secs it was at the windows welcome screen and loading the antivirus and other bits you know....
test 2 with windows seven...
same as with xp but 26seconds faster...... 1min 11sec
now all i need is to load vista lol
the weird thing is is that the times are not consistant i ran the test 3 times fr each... (what can i say it was sunday night i was bored) and the times ranged from 1min48 to 1min25 fo xp and 1.03 and 1.20 for seven... the times i mentioned were the middle times... -
Sorry guys for being off topic but I have a small question. How's the keyboard on the 5930? I tested the keyboard of the 4930 and it wasn't very smooth to type with and the keys were a bit wobbly. Is the keyboard on this one the same?
-
Hi, i have quite a few questions so please bear with me.
My 5930g is running at these temps:
They are when its running idle, i would like to decrease those tewmps so i would like to clean out the fans. Has anyone done this yet? what are other people's running temperatures? If you have, please can you tell me how it is so i can do it myself as im worried about doing it.
What is empowering technology? Do i need it running at startup or can i just have my antivirus running on startup to hopefully make it quicker to startup?
What programs do you need to keep from the original ones?
Where on the acer site is the latest nvidia graphics driver? i cant find it anywhere on their site and on the nvidia site it said to get it off there but its not there.
Has anyoneu upgraded to the latest bios on the acer website? i downloaded it but i dont want to extract the files until im sure what to do with it.
Thanks -
All I've done is use it to surf the net for a while since I turned it on. GPU is a little high I think beacuse my leg is blocking the GPU vent
You don't need it when you boot up, beacuse you can access all the programs easily from the programs menu when you boot up.
Also, you can disable any programs you don't think you need on boot up to speed up boot time.
Post a list here and we can tell you what you can safely disable.
They are pathetic
The best thing to do is to install DOX's custom drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
To install:
1- Download the installer for the latest version of DoX's driver (180.84 I think) from the site.
2- Download a program called Driver Sweeper and install it.
3- Create a restore point (in case)
4-Uninstall the nVidia display drivers, from program menu
5-Restart and boot into safe mode (press and hold F8 after the acer screen disappears, and choose safe mode.
6-Once in safe mode, run driver sweeper, choose nVidia drivers and run a scan. Then choose to clean all files it found
7-Reboot again and let windows load normally (the resolution may be retarded don't worry)
8-Run the installer file you downloaded in step 1, and reboot when prompted to do so.
9-After the reboot, run GPU-Z and see what firmware it shows.
These drivers should improve performance in all games
.
I can control my temps, and I don't have any issues so I won't upgrade now
Good luck, hope this post helps
(If it did a little rep never hurts)
-
Rayyan ...
How did you get those temps on your CPU?
My laptop is the reverse.
The idle gpu temp is about 10 degrees lower than yours while my idle cpu temp is about 10 deg higher.
What gives?
'Willthepro'
You can try cleaning out your air vents with a compressed air in a can.
You press the can at the air vents and just blow it in.
The temps should drop as a result (if you haven't cleaned it out in a while).
My temps have stayed consistent from when I first bought the laptop:
Idle cpu temp: 51/53 deg C (core 1/core 2)
Idle gpu temp: 43 deg C
Btw ... my cpu is P7350.
I think someone mentioned on the forums that it's threshold temperature is by 10 degrees lower than what HWMonitor thinks it is.
So in essence, my cpu temps should be 41/43 deg C ... is that right? -
(er) than yours
Mine have also been constant
They are around what I have posted, sometimes a little higer/lower, but the fly once I get gaming.
My book+fan technique is equal to your zamlan though
Yesterday it brought my temps in grid down from 88-91 degrees to around the 75 mark.
All for free
I think
Not too sure what you mean by that last bit -- threshold temp??
Clarify a bit mate -
hi
this is my startup at the moment
Which ones dont i need on startup from here?
I got the latest graphics card driver from nvidia's website
I now need to try and find if anyone has taken the back of the acer 5930g to find out about the fans and the 'insides' of it
thanks -
--Acer Launch manager
--Acer eAudio managemment (if you don't use it)
--Acer eDataSecurity management
--WR_Popup (although I recommend you register you laptop)
--Adobe acrobat
I see there are more that are not shown, maybe you could scroll down and take a few more screen shots so we can see what esle boot up with your laptop, and help speed it up more.
Unchecking these should speed up your boot time.
Also, have you fragmented your boot files (not the HD this is something esle)????
I haven't opened my laptop so I can't help you there
Hope this helped -
Actually, someone mentioned on these forums that my cpu (P7350) has a different thermal threshold (about 90 deg C) and that as a result, HWMonitor (which is set for standard thermal threshold of 100) is registering it's temps as 10 degrees higher than what they actually are.
I think the threshold temperature usually means upper limit of the safety zone for the cpu as far as temperatures are concerned (I could be wrong though).
I think that P8400 (your cpu Rayyan) has a standard thermal threshold of 100 degrees, and as a result, HWMonitor gives you proper temps.
Although I don't understand why is your idle gpu temp by 10 degrees higher than mine (effectively meaning that our temps in the end are identical ... because what you make up in gpu temps, I make up with the cpu). -
i also have another question
why is the hard drive partitioned? is the second partition (D drive) usable or not? can i get rid of it?
thanks -
The hard drive is partitioned because that's how Acer does their work with pre-installed OS-es.
You can use the D partition without a problem (I do), or you can get rid of it (but generally speaking I would say you can leave it and simply shrink the C partition to 50 GB - which should be more than enough for the OS and various programs, while allocating the rest to the D drive and keeping games and other applications there). -
Java and Adobe don't have to be started with the OS, so you can remove them as well.
But tell you the truth, I would sooner install TuneUP utilities and just plainly remove all of the unnecessary entries.
I only have the NOD32 and the Touchpad driver starting up with my Windows.
Nothing else. -
Well I have acer audio and power starting up, as well as quite a few other things, and after running BootTimer, it told me that my boot time is 52.135 secs.
I timed it myself from when the screen turned on before the acer logo, to when vista loaded and was usable, and my time was 49 secs.
So my boot time is between 49-52 secs.
Not bad at all, I'd say, given the number of programs I have on startup, including sidebar(clock only)
@deks
I have no clue as to why my GPU has a higher idle temp than yours.
For the record, today I set up my notebook with the fan blowing air underneath it, and after playing grid and prince of persia for some time (~2 hrs), the temp never 79 degrees.
A great improvement over the 91 I hit yesterday playing grid with the laptop on the desk
Also, how do you remove entries using tune-up utilities, I have it????
@will
You have 2 partitions of 110GB each, so if you don't use the D drive you are wasting half of your drive.
I have all programs and games installed on C, while all my data is on D (music. videos, docs etc) -
Open up TuneUP utilities and find the 'TuneUP Startup Manager'.
If you use TuneUP 2007 or 2008, it should be on the star page.
If you use 2009, it's under 'Increase Performance'.
Click on 'Prevent unwanted automatic program startup' and start deleting everything apart from the essentials.
Generally I think that TuneUP is great, but the 2009 version is lacking a little from the Performance monitors in the Startup page.
I find it a bit useless and annoying ('bloat').
let's just hope they don't over-bloat the program as it usually happens with plenty of firms. -
Guys, I require some assistance.
Nvidia site contains HDMI Audio driver in the nForce section for XP.
Problem is, I don't know which nForce driver to download as most seem to be for desktop motherboards.
nForce 7 ... nForce 6, etc. etc ...
Which one to download for 5930g? -
i need some help plz
i am now installing windows vista ultimate, and everytime it stops in the "completing installation" part
what do i do?
do i have to change something in the bios?
EDIT: never mind, it was because of the sata when i changed it it worked
thx -
Hi fellow 5930(G) owners,
Recently I noticed something with my laptop.... It has framedrops!!!
For example; When I'm playing Call of Duty 5, my FPS is good... but then my fps dropped drastically for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds it's normal again for (let's say) a minute.... this framedrop will repeat every minute! It's getting very annoying.
The weird part is that I also played an old game (Soldier of Fortune 2) and even there it has framedrops. (From 300 fps -> 20 fps)
I already updated my BIOS (v1.23) and according to the acer website, my laptop drivers are still up-to-date.
I'm afraid that something broke down a couple of weeks ago when my laptop felt on the carpet (30 cm)
What do you guys think? -
ChuckNL, it's heat problem.
you need a laptop cooler.
When laptop is getting warm, it's slowing in games. -
the games gets a bit slower with me too when it gets so hot
where can i get this laptop cooler from?
and how do i update my bios?
oh and how can i see the temperature and the fps? -
There's a possibility of the gpu overheating, but let's not jump that far ahead (yet).
First and foremost ChuckNL ... don't play the games on this laptop in your lap.
Make sure the laptop is on a flat surface.
There shouldn't be any obstructions of air vents below.
Monitor your temperatures with HWMonitor (enter that word into google and download it) and see just how much they are.
Next ... how old is your laptop?
Did you clean out the air vents by vacuuming them and/or using compressed air ?
If not, then I suggest you do so because heat builds up with the fans gaining on dirt.
Buit it depends as well.
You mentioned the laptop fell on the floor/carpet from 30 cm height?
Probably it's gonna be ok and shouldn't really affect the gpu.
The thing I would be worried more about though is the hard drive failing as a result.
And besides, after the fall, something might have loosened up inside the laptop (such as the heatsink) and not cooling down your components properly.
But I digress ... first clean out your laptop air vents, then worry about other things.
I was playing Bioshock and Mass Effect maxed out just fine on this laptop without a cooler for several hours.
I also cleaned out my air vents both on the laptop and the Zalman cooler (when I got it). My temperatures remained the same to this day.
Granted I don't do a lot of gaming but still. -
Not playing games on your lap is the first step in the right direction.
However, even on a desk the laptop can heat up causing games to log.
This is my cooling solution and is free if you have a fan
I actually wanted a good notebook cooler, however all the ones here are cheap unbranded ones that cost a lot
I just prop each of the back corners of my notebook on some book so they are about an inch and a half above the desk.
Then I place something at the front so the notebook is at the same level.
I turn on a fan that I have, so that the air flows under the notebook, and my temps haven't gone over 75, even when gaming for extended periods of time -
Firstly: Thank you all for responding
For the FPS, you can use Fraps (correct me if I'm wrong)... I use the in-game console
I was never a fan of using my laptop on my lap, therefore I always use it on a table.
I got bought my laptop in the beginning of August... I think I was one of the first to have it here in my town/country. Vacuuming... I totally forgot about that!! Hopefully that's the solutionI'll vacuum it tonight since I don't have the time to do it right now. I used my laptop intensively in those 4,5 months... Especially for the last 2 months, where my laptop is running 20 hours, 6 days a week. (downloading games and movies etc..)
After 10 minutes of CoD5 and SoF2 (I'll try to play it tonight again)
-
A laptop cooler is probably better than what I do, but I have not yet been able to find a good one here -
Your maximum temperatures (when under full load) according to HWMonitor are about 10 degrees higher than what they should be.
Given the fact your laptop is about 4 months old now and you've never cleaned out it's air vents ... I would attribute the higher temperatures to the dust buildup.
Vacuuming can help clean out your vents, but it's effects may not be 100% effective.
In order to make sure you did full cleaning, purchase an air compressed in a can, bring it to the laptop air vents and push in the air from the can.
Lastly, if you REALLY want to make sure you got the job done, open up the lower part of the laptop and clean out the inner laptop area (primarily the coolers) with a light brush.
And blow out any residual dust.
Oh and as a side note:
Make sure you backup your vital data from that hard drive.
When my old DELL laptop fell on the floor by accident, it continued working several months afterward, but ultimately died on me entirely.
I had to replace it (which of course worked) but I also lost a lot of valuable data (nothing I cannot replace, but just make sure to backup your hdd in case). -
Same thing happened to an external drive I had but nothing was backed up, so I lost ~140Gb of data -
