I had this exact same issue when I first got mine. I have no idea what caused is and the only way I could fix it was to use the recovery image to go back to factory settings. Haven't had it since. I'm thinking it was a driver issue or something.

I haven't had that freezing issue at all. I am trying to figure out a way to get custom resolutions to work so I can play BF3 at 1366x768 instead of the 1280x768 or w/e.

1600x900 is too much for me for that game since I'd prefer to have over 40 fps vs. 35-40.

I was working on the resolutions yesterday using Phoenix & Moninfo, but with each driver I created, all of the resolutions would just give me a black screen, except the 1600x900. So, I don't know if it's even possible. I did it previously with an external monitor, so I'm familiar with the process, so I have no idea why it isn't working.

Anyway, I played Just Cause 2 for the first time & loved it.. that game runs perfectly & is absolutely beautiful. So glad I got the Xbox controller yesterday!

Also, the GPU buzzing sound has become softer. It's still pretty much just as loud, but not as harsh sounding.

I imaged my SSD over to the hard drive that originally came with the laptop and didn't have that lockup problem all day. Looks like it's a problem with my SSD. I'll have to either re-purpose it or sell it.

Also, in some configurations this laptop comes with an i7-2670QM. The 2670qm uses the same socket as the 2430m that mine came with. The main difference (besides that it's an i7) is that the TDP is 45W not 35W. If i swap out the i5 for the i7 do any of you think it would cause problems? The power adapter that comes with this is a 90W adapter

New Leshcat drivers (12.6) are available for download. Update option within ATI installer worked perfectly this time around.

However, I am still getting a problem where when I return from sleep mode I can’t see anything on the screen, is this the brightness problem leshcat mentioned, or is this something else entirely? The computer functions normally other than not being able to see anything on the screen when resuming.

I'll be calling Acer within the week for that GPU buzzing sound. It's not noticeable when you have the sound on high enough, but it even does a millisecond buzz/click sound when I'm flipping through photos = not acceptable.

Hopefully the fact that there's 2 tiny, literally tiny, like less than a CM scratches on the screen won't hurt any chances of getting it replaced if not just franken-repaired for free, since those scratches aren't relevant to the GPU sound.

mine is being sent in for warranty repair/replacement for that annoying buzzing sound coming off of the gpu.

just need to decide which to send in first... the asus or the acer. i still need to have a computer LOL..

i'm selling the asus after it's repaired, but that still doesn't help me decide which to send first lol

Hey guys, I have an Acer 7750g. I want to know if I can install fresh Windows 7 on the main partition and leave the recovery partition intact. Then Download the eRecovery software and recover my system to factory default. Is this possible?

    Not sure if it's possible.

I just went with the burning recovery disc method of the OEM os & software & then did the fresh install.

I've already wiped out my primary partition but my recovery is still intact. I just need to download the eRecovery software for my notebook (no where I can find it?) to see if I can still restore everything.

Okay, let me explain. I did a clean install of Windows on my primary partition, to remove all the unnecessary programs (and a little performance boost? idk). I wanted to know if I could have restore my laptop to factory default if I left the recovery partition intact. I tried it today and it worked. You can restore the computer to factory default no matter what you do on the other partitions. As long as you don't touch the recovery partition.

What are you guys getting for temps under load? I was getting mid 70's under sustained gaming. Now i'm getting low-mid 80's after gaming for a couple hours. I assume this is because the thermal paste they use is crap, i had the same problem with my K53TA until i reapplied the thermal paste.

Looking to upgrade the CPU that came with my laptop. It came with an i5-2430M and ATI 6850M.

i'm looking to swap the i5 out for an i7. I'm looking to upgrade to the i7-2670QM which actually did come in some high end configurations of the 7750G. It has a TDP of 45W (our i5 is 35W). Since some of the high end 7750G laptops came with the 2670QM i would assume it should be plug and play in our laptop right?

Since the 2670QM works, you think the 2760QM will work? The 2760QM benchmarks quite a bit better, anyone know if there's a difference between the two processors in terms of heat output?

How much warmer do you think the i7 will run than the i5.

    I have a 6650m OC
    Stock: 600 core, 800 mem
    OC : 750 core, 975 mem
    Temp : 66C (100% load), 45C (idle)

I want to know what percentage I should put the fan speed at 100% load temp, if anyone can help.

Ran Caps Viewer furry cube for over ten minutes. I had full GPU usage and had 64C max. Right now idle temp is 41C. I have 6650m with i5-2430m.

Would personally not try putting a 45w CPU in my lappy. Asking for trouble if you want my opinion.

I also have clocks set at 650/850 (overclocked 50MHZ) and all seems good. My temps are what I stated.

I'm using leshcat drivers and modded bios though.

I was going to send my Acer & ASUS in for repairs at the same time... the ASUS is already done (it's back to Best Buy from ASUS), but I didn't send the Acer yet because now it has a second issue: a little mark of dead pixels!

I'm waiting until I get the ASUS back to send this out so I still have a PC. Didn't call them to tell them about the new issue so I'll be doing that tomorrow.. I guess it'll be up to them if it's covered or not.... hopefully it is. I haven't looked at their dead pixel policy but the ASUS was covered because it was a dead pixel mark that was more of a grouping of pixels. Obviously one pixel would be very tiny & I wouldn't care. The ASUS had like 8-9 composing it's mark, the Acer has maybe 6-7.

Also, I'm going to order a new bottom cover (the one that you remove to upgrade the RAM & SSDs) so they don't think I had anything to do with damaging the thing in relation to the GPU making a buzzing sound, since the sound did in fact exist prior to the dremeling of the cover.

In other news, I wish I had a 512gb ssd to go with the 256 instead of having two 256's because the Steam Summer Sale has me way over the limit & I'll have to use the HDD for all of my media for games once I get it back out of the ASUS (it was the OEM HDD in that)

So.. Today I shut down my computer and then turn it back on a minute later. It starts in low rez mode like there's no video driver and them windows explorer keeps crashing and freezes everything I click. Hard shutdown and restart gives me the same thing. Safe mode gives me the same thing..

Anyway, I finally wait a few minutes on the last start and it says the AMD driver is missing or not installed. I try to do a few things and it freezes into a blue screen.

Upon the blue screen restart, it doesn't make it past boot and says no bootable device.

What is going on?????? Did I just lose one of my SSDs?

Ok, well I restarted and it went back to low resolution. Not that I can do anything.

Ok, so now it's getting worse. I let it sit on the login screen for 10 seconds and it blue screened and went back into the no bootable device.

The bios shows my solid state drives. I suppose my video card may have gone out? I was going to send it into Acer to have them repair the GPU or replace the board because of the buzzing sound that comes from it, maybe this is the result of that sound?

    UPDATE:

I put the OEM HD in because it has the stock install. It's working fine...... ugh. So I wonder what the heck is going on with my SSD setup. It may be a trojan but all of the forums say it isn't.

It's called "DYNAMER DTC." It was detected yesterday but it didn't remove it. Anyway, I guess I'll just wipe out my SSDs & go from there.

Also, via Google, it looks like Crucial M4 SSDs have a problem with blue screens related to firmware. I guess I'll update the FW but I looked at the FW stickers on the physical drives & they were the new FW, so I am lost right now.

lol i wouldnt use turbo boost as it will help crush your CPU definitly,
test Emulator Dolphin with a game called Fatal Frame 4 and ya will see what im talking about lol

Turbo Boost 3.0ghz on mine would hit 85C on that hungry cpu emulator with that demanding game,
other pc games wont go higher than 75C still i wont ever use TB and gona set cpu 99% on windows 7 power manegement.
(but what this tests were done on summer time around 30C ambient temp) idle temp seems 39/40C now,
altough it was lower before like 36/37C, not sure if my room ambient temp got higher or the thermal paste is now a crap useless thing lol...
My laptop makes 7 months old now so that might be it seeing the litle diference.

Playing Phantasy Star Online with turbo boost disabled wont go higher than 57 to 61C.

Checked today my temps on full load gaming and idle:
(No Turbo Boost/ Ambient Temp around 30C, i got no lags on Dynasty Warriors 7 eitheir and requires good cpu lol)
The GPU temp there is of Radeon as i tested with GPUZ too.

Ok, I've narrowed it down to 3 possibilities:

    A. the SSD has gone bad
    B. there's a corrupt system file
    C. virus

I finally figured out how to disable restart upon BSOD, & wrote that code down along with the errors I receive in Windows.

The errors in windows are related to: "inpageerror" and "inpagecofire"

The BSOD code is stop: 0x000000f4

Not sure what I'm going to do to narrow it down further. I'm contemplating just doing a clean install & seeing if it pops back up versus diagnosing the hell out of it to fix a file when it might not even be the issue.

lol no one here replys more?
also i noticed even on high end demanding games both cards are still in use o_O

I mean Radeon is called and i saw a 39% max gpu load, but the integrated one is also used o_O,
    no wonder Radeon max heat was 50C so far o_O cause both cards being used o_O;

People just leting you know, dont ever disable AMD External events service!
that reduces 4 Celsisu on CPU at least (both idle or under load)
so dont ever listen to people who disable it or set manual lmao. (to take efect it needs to start automaticaly at boot)

Nobody really chimed in on my wanting to upgrade to an i7. :(

I see that our laptop came with a i7-2630QM in some configurations, probably mostly due to cost. I'm looking to go with an i7-2670QM which i'm sure won't be much different in terms of heat output. Probably going to happen sometime within the next week so i'll let you guys know!

Also after repasting my cpu i'm getting ~mid 70's after a few hours of gaming on my i5

With Turbo Boost wont surprise me, that feature is realy bad on mobile cpu,s anyways lol... also being Acer is another issue, im avoiding Acer forever now.

Only options left that are more safe than Acer for sure is: HP/ Asus or Dell
cause i saw various models ventilation on bottom and i must say its far superior design to the crapy Acer sadly.
(also always noticed beter temps on cpu in their models)
Acer eitheir have very bad design on ventilation, also dont care at all and they must use cheap thermal paste more cheap heatsink fan inside for sure.
Lastly must add their support to keep updated with drivers is the worst out there too,
if you reinstall OS you no longer have the newer drivers available cause they dont care to update their site at all.

I'm going to sell my 2 Windows laptops & bump into the non retina MBP or the retina...oh also going to sell the iPad 3 64gb. & also these two 256gb ssd's..

I miss my MBP, plus I'm tired of drivers & random slowdowns & all that jazz. Plus, they come with a 650m now which is better than the 6850m I'm running now for games.. & I'd really like to get into editing, & the iPad just doesn't cut it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a Windows guy. It's not the software aspect that's getting to me at this point. It's the hardware. Sure I had fun building a desktop from scratch a few years back.. but at this point, I don't have time to do random troubleshooting/modifying or creating drivers, blah blah. Yes, it's nice to learn, but it cuts into the time of doing/learning things that can make $$$

Less is more. All I need is phone, camera, laptop.

    Nice knowing you guys :)

Everything seems to be working fine with the exception of the AMD GPU. I didn't have to install anything and my device manager was void of yellow exclamation marks. Pretty impressive. Overall running very smoothly. Can't wait for Leshcat to do AMDs job for them.

Anyone have an issue with the palm/wrist rest area? Sometimes when I'm typing or mousing around, it interferes by activating the touchpad, even though I'm not touching the touchpad, I'm just resting my hands/wrist with no extra pressure.. like I always have with every laptop ever.

I just disable the touchpad with the Fn+F7 keys.

It happened again just now. While I was typing, it activated the touchpad & the page scrolled way down, so I couldn't see what I was typing. I mean, I know what I'm typing, but I'm tired & wanna make sure it's right!

If you're not touching any part of the touchpad when it activates you have a defective laptop. Get it replaced. If you are actually barely touching with your palm there are settings in the touchpad drivers to make it less responsive on the outer edges.

I just had a laptop in work that was doing that without being touched and apparently it was drivers.

For anyone interested in upgrading from the i5 that came in this to an i7, you'll also need an Acer 120W power adapter that comes with those laptops. The 90W that comes with this laptop isn't enough and when the i7 hits turbo speeds it causes massive throttling and terrible performance. When disabling turbo and setting clock speeds it results in nearly the same performance during gaming as before the upgrade. Just swapped my i5 back in and tried overclocking the 6850M that this came with. OC'd the GPU and got a decent increase in framerates in CS:Source and CS:GO
