exactly ... I can name lot's of examples that more ram is beter, but the problem remains that the combination of 1920x1080 resolution + textures is to heavy for our 9600M's and 9700M's
(not to mention the fact if you haven't Overclocked)
Do agree that there are enough games will do just fine on 512
EXAMPLE:
VERY HIGH TEXTURE or ULTA TEXTURE settings are only interesting for 1024
but as stated before it's better to go with 1360x768 reso and 2xAA
Street Fighter 4 @ 1920x1080 only uses 180-200mb texture mem
But Crisis + GTA4 + NFS Shift and many others benefit from 512+ etc.

Is it possible to replace your CPU in a Aspire 8930g with a qx9300 ?
Someone said 'NO'!
I would like to know from EXPERTs...though .
Is it possible ?
Thanks -
Can you tell me which is better between aspire-8930g and aspire-8935g ?
Can you list differences PRO & CONs, please ?
Thanks EXPERTs and not . -
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670" or "nvidia 9700 GT"
Which card is better ?
Is it much better or slightly better ?
THANKS -
-
... that one could probably handle a q9300
but if I were you, wait for the core i7 to get downpriced
(i have found out my very first program/game that the T6400@2Ghz limits, namely emulators like WII / GameCube / PS2) -
/bump
Thinking of buying 1 of these to play World of Warcraft.
Will an Aspire 8930G-643G25Mn be good enough or should i go for an Aspire 8930G-644G32Mn.
As far as I can tell the only differences are 1Gb extra memory and a larger HD (i have a 1Tb external HD already) -
Excuse me if this has been posted before but I couldn't find the answer anywhere... On my Acer 8935G, is there any way to disable the keys for Acer Backup Manager, Bluetooth and Wireless Network to the left of the keyboard?
Those keys are driving me insane since I constantly hit them by accident, and I'm not even using the Backup Manager or any Bluetooth peripherals. If I'm running a fullscreen game or application at the time it might even crash when I accidently hit those keys, and if I'm for example using a online poker client it usually dies if I hit the wireless key. It's a disaster every time.
In short: The location of those keys are terrible!
I've looked through the applications and processes but I can't seem to find a way to completely kill this poor excuse of interaction design. Could anyone please be of assistance and make my life easier? -
If this doesn't help, then look for a way to disable those keys in Windows, because Windows will handle a lot of those 'handy' keys... -
I enabled it again and went to acer.com and reinstalled the Launch Manager but nothing happened.
Is there any way to configure/remap/disable these keys individually?
I've found a file called LMconfig.exe in C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\ but it doesn't seem to do anything. -
My post doesn't really fit into the current discussion, but I registered especially so I could share my experience with the 8930G.
I got my Aspire about 4 months ago. Since a couple of weeks I started getting problems in heavier games like Need For Speed: Shift and Batman Arkham Asylum. Sometimes the machine would just randomly shut down. After looking for possible explanations, I found that a lot of people were having trouble with temperatures. I installed HWMonitor and noticed that during games my GPU temperature would climb to about 110°C.
I have, however, found a way to prevent this. It's not a fix per se, but I found that when I remove my power cable and play the games solely on battery power, my temperature stays within the normale range (doesn't go above 80°C).
I wanted to share this, because in my search I found not a single solution, so I thought a lot of people could benefit from this.
It's not a real solution and after about an hour of gaming the battery is almost dead, but it beats overheating the system. Hope this helps some of you! -
Also make sure that the ventilation holes on the bottom of the laptop arent closed off by someting like cloth, or your legs ;-)
If there is a lot of dust in the cooling vents, this will also negatively impact the cooling system. Just turn the laptop off and blow it out, or used something like air in a can.
Mine runs stable at 80 degrees with the power attached (otherwise it would go into a powersave mode, lowering the card's performance).
With overclocking it runs at 88 C (I overclock to: 666, 1000, 1650).
I hope this helps.
If all else fails, make or buy a notebook stand for a 18 inch laptop, make sure it has a fan in the upper left corner. This helps my laptop to maintain a temperature of another 3 degrees cooler (85). -

there are some new intel wifi drivers out version 13.0.0.107
for vista/win7 and xp
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/21149-intel-wifi-drivers-v13-0-0-107/ -
what is the best stable nvidia driver for 8930G ? anyone on 186.81 from nvidia page ?
-
Anyone thinking of doing a clean install of Windows 7 when it arrives? I have Vista Ultimat 32 bit at present which was a factory install. Should I buy the Upgrade version of 7 or the full version?
-
If you have read at least the last 3pages you could have noticed that alot are on I clean Win7x64 .... Lot better than before, also upgrade my destop to W7x64 never want to go back to any other windows
Anyways... I have tested all drivers from 186.03 till 191.07 BETA's using the moddified INF files located @ laptopvideo2go.com
I must say ... make sure you have monitoring tools installed, best one is RivaTuner (because it's low on resources and is capable of doing almost everything)
found out that 186.91 runs Mini Ninja's + Monkey Island like they should, but higher version tend to hang while starting certain games, but I'm working on 191.07 for a while now only Mini Ninja's has problem.
But don't mind because this driver is stable with my high OC's etc. 680/450/1700
EDIT:
191.53 work nice but not stable enough for my OC, so I think last stable was 186.91 Notebook seems best!
EDIT2:
The Wii & GameCube Emulator (Dolphin4418) runs most stable also with the 186.91 for me a good reason to stick with these for a while -
G60force.....have you bothered to read the last 3 pages?? your smart response was not really worth writing as only 1 contributor actually mentions having Windows 7.
I'll repeat my question and hope that someone with a few more manners and someone with a little more knowlegde can give me the answers I'm looking for.
Is it worth doing a clean install rather than an upgrade to Windoes 7? I have 640GB split over 2 drives (factory), will Windows 7 partition these as they are now or do I have to do it?
Thanks -
And I should have stated it a bit different I agree on that, but NEVER upgrade it totally sux... there's always a chance that even extra errors survive the transition for one OS to the other
640GB so you mean 1physical and 2patitions...?
if you have the second partition as een data/backup drive then just erase the complete first patition (you could use MIGWIZ.exe first it's a standard Microsoft Migration Wizard, that works awesome!)
hope this does help a bit, and sorry .. just fed up with most ppl not reading most previous posts -
This is not a trifle but a big relief, ...I mean..... Peace of MIND !
Think about it.
Regards -
if you have two hard drives, remove the one with the current windows installation, then install windows on the second drive
from then on, you can choose the primary boot device in the bios and press the boot key to quickly boot into the other system.
(once install is complete add the first drive again).
That way you can have your cake AND eat it too.
Without getting into multi boot screens that delay your boot, or getting into a nasty situation where you discover that Windows 7 SUCKS! and have to reinstall your previous OS.
If you like the new start menu, more text in your configuration options and everything being even more diverted from the standard you loved in the olden days. Then you will probably like Windows 7. I hear it's faster, but I haven't seen it yet. -

Hi to all thanks for this forum is very helpfull
I have a question, i Setup Windows 7 Ultimate ,but in device manager are 4 devices tha canot be found with the same name ( base device manager)
what device is that windows 7 doesnt have drivers?
My sound, webcam, video card, works with the win7 drivers.
My specs are :
Aspire 8930G
Quad core 2,266
4giga Ram
9600m GT
2XIntel SSD Postvile 160
Zalman Paste and Zalman (VGA series) Fun on CPU 2.350 rpm -

driver magician, or a tool like it, will solve that problem
Or check all the drivers on the acer site and see what you missed.
I always make a directory on the drive that has all the drivers I installed.
After Installing a new driver, replace the old one AFTER you are pleased with the end result. It's easier to take a step back in case windows isn't capable of rolling back to the previous version.
Anyways, if need be you could also check the device ID's in the device manager and search on those. It's a bit tricky though.
Most likely you forgot the:
* Intel drivers (it's called: intel inf update utility)
* bluetooth
* modem (just disable if you don't use it)
* card reader -

I use LAN to connect to the NET as my router is only 4 feet away, now i would like to disable the WiFi , but when i turn it off using the WiFi button, when i reboot it re-enables itself , the bios does not seem to have a setting to remember last WiFi state on re-boot like most notebooks have.
I don't want to disable it in the bios as it defeats the point of having a button.
Thanks for any help. -
- Go to Network and Sharing centre.
- On the left click Manage network connections.
- Right click your Wireless network connection and select Disable.
Hope this helps you out

That does just the same as disabling it in the device manager , I was hoping for some way in the Acer setting to be able to remember the setting so i can use the button.
Thanks anyway.

Anybody using bios v1.12 or v1.13 if so does your cpu core temps going up or down in hwmonitor or similar as mine does not, they stay the same until i reboot my notebook.
Thanks. -
Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 8935G running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bits. Soon after I installed the OS the display went haywire (distorted, etc). I then restarted the laptop thinking that perhaps it'd solve it, but the display started flashing different colors and once Windows had started it was warped. I plugged my laptop to an external display and it was fine... I had already updated the drivers so I flashed the BIOs. It actually "solved" the problem, but as I shut the system down and turn it back on the display problem reappears, but flashing the BIOs again brings it back to normal. I'm not sure on the actual problem, and I want a permanent solution rather than just flashing the BIOs every time I turn it off/on. If anyone can help me I'll appreciate it immensely. -
Question :
Have you ever seen a 8930g ?
Do you think that its Design is way better than your 8935 ?
Can you tell where 8935 overcomes/exceeds8930 ?
thanka -

Is it normal for the 8930 to make a loud clicking noise when it is shut down or put into sleep mode, but it does not happen every time, this is not a hdd noise , it sound like when you insert a lan cable into the socket the same clicking noise.
Is this normal?
Thanks. -
Greetings everyone, my first post.
New to the 8930G and Win7 on the same day yesterday. Two questions if I may:
1: I've done a clean sweep of the Vista drive removing all partitions and reinstalling Win7 home premium. Reading what you guys have been saying I'd have done much better to have installed the 64 bit version and not the 32 bit as I have done, so my question is, do I need to re-format the drive again to install the 64 bit disc or is there an easier method of upgrading to the 64 bit with that disc?
2: Does anyone know a good hairdresser?
Thanks in advance. -
a few new drivers on acer website for the 8930 have been added

Anybody elses 8930 make a clicking noise as i described below.
Thanks.

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Thanks for that , so it`s not a added feature , another fault to add to my list.
-
My one clicks now and again. I think it is the Western Digital Scorpio Black harddrive that is to blame. I have read on several forums that folk sometimes hear a click. I also sometimes hear a beep coming from my Aspire. Its working fine tho and has been okay for almost a year now so I am not worried about it
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
I am starting to get the odd loud click when the notebook is on , not just when i turn it off or go into sleep mode.
The click is very loud and i am quite certain it is not from the hdd , as i have returned more than one notebook for hdd noise and this is not that noise.
I already have a replacement on order, as my CPU temperature does not change both core temperatures remain the same , even when running orthos or wprime , and only changes when the notebook is rebooted. -
As for both W7 questions are you guys serious?
of course don't remove ram... I've running even W7 beta without problems on this Acer and as soon as the final release arrived I did a clean install...
never want to go back to anyother windows OS -
Hi guys,
I have just upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium from Vista Home Premium and I seem to have a couple of problems. Firstly I can no longer adjust my brightness using the Fn key. When I change it in the display properties I have to reboot the laptop for it to take effect. Also when using Microsoft Works I get an error saying I can only have 6 spreadsheets open when I only have one.
Any help on solving these issues would be greatly appreciated.

TRY W7 FORUM OR WORKS FORUM COMBO'S
FN KEY WORKS FOR EVEN ON CLEAN INSTALL, WHEN I DIDN'T EVEN UPDATE
STRANGE -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Yeah , but my click is loud , not the iratating clik/clunk some hdd`s can make.
I have head it now and again when the notebook is just running , I have another problem , my cpu core temps do not move, unless i reboot the notebook or put it to sleep and wake it up, I have tried orthos and wprime but it stays the same. -
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
So your cpu core temp does not move while in windows as well , what is going on with Acer , I have ordered a replacement , I hope it`s not the same.
I tried W7 and Vista, just the same.
I wonder if it`s to stop the cpu throttling problem?
-
Check the device manager, if you still have uninstalled hardware, make sure to install it.
You'll need at least:
- CPU Driver
- Mainboard drivers (Intel INF Update utility)
- VideoCard
- Also try a second temp monitor, it might be a compatibility thing
The only two that in my eyes are useless are: Modem and the ITECIR
You should be able to pick them out and uninstall/disable them.
Also yes, clean install a 64 bit asap, the longer you wait the more files you need to move and games you have to reinstall
Or do a dual boot ;-) in case you ever need a 32 bit system (like for bios flash) -
as for drivers, windows installs the cpu driver or you wouldnt get anything to work -
BTW. ITECIR is handy when using a remote control for media centre
