I have been talking to Acer Support as well as several E-Mails regarding the issues with this Bios, it is hard to get things escalated to the top, but the last person I delt with assured me it was going there. So I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. As well I brought up the lack of VT support.

For hard drive you may need to go into disc management and format it.

yeah... i think mine change serial number as well...
and i don't see any benefits of 1.14. i flashed back to previous bios, i think the serial no. still 123456...
I can confirm the cinedash console doesn't work, sometimes doesn't even light up.
argh! still having throttling issues! even with undervolt! cannot use my laptop for fun gaming! argh!

It might be to reduce the hdd rf output to comply with regulations, basically to reduce radio interference i think.

Too much trouble with v1.14, wrong serial number, and since yesterday no way to use the cinedash console and the touch pad... So back to v1.13. I think I'll email Acer to say that their V1.14 BIOS is quite bad.

Hi, the serial number reverting to default is because when Acer build the laptops they program into the bios the S/N of the laptop. As far as I can remember all the Acer laptops I've flashed clear out the S/N...

I've emailed acer to ask them whether it was possible tu upgrade the cpu to a quad core. Their reply is quite disappointing. They were not able to give me the right chipset of the mobo, and only told me they would not be responsible for any problems if I changed the cpu...

Agony, I can see you have a quad core @ 2.26ghz, so I assume it is a q9100. have you upgraded your laptop yourself or have you bought it with a q9100? thanks a lot

    Hi All
My 8930G is still on original bios 1.05 i think and have asked before about updating it but everyone says not to bother unless i have issues ....of which i dont . Since i last asked there has been a few more bios updates ...does anyone know what these update fix and is it now worth updating my bios or just leave alone ?

Also i tried updating the Acer Bio Protection software last night to the latest one on acer's website but had issues with it ....it loaded no problem , put fingerprints in etc and rebooted ....it worked for sign in but thats about it ...cannot access system wizard via fingerprint ...sometimes says no hardware found so reverted back to old version and now works fine again ....does the new version now work with windows explorer 8 for password protection as the old version wont work with it ?
Anyone else had this issue ?

    Any Help most appreciated
    Karl

My friend sypieni I hope i can help You, I have bought 3 Acers 8930g one for me one for my sister and one for a friend of mine. My sisters is tha same as yours P8400 Mine is Q9000 (not the Q9100 it wasn't ever come to Greece)
The Q9000 in Greece is Working at 1,6 when is at 20% and when it is on Charge and Full throtle 2.26 and On batery and Full throtle 2.00 By Default all this.So I think THe Q9100 Will work at Full THrotle at 9.5x multiplier 2.527.
I have worked with the 3 of them the 2.26mhz ,2,53 mhz 2 cores and 2.0mhz 4 cores at games no diference at all about 2-3 fps.And the games that use tha 4 cores they need powerfull vga (to see diference) and the 9600 and '9700 they can't.
So The only big diference is the Multitasking on videos sounds and Graphics, at this point This is why i Buy the Q9000, BUT a big BUT the Magazines makes Bencmarks at the real Life the when you gone work at Videos like Converting them with a big files like 2or4 gigas you will see that The Quad Core is not working Over times and a 2 Core prosessor is still very fast to see any diferences. So Botom point is that the difernce is really low.
But IF a big IF you dont have an HD disk that bottlenecks the Quad Core at this multitasking threats Yes you wil see a Big diference. Some numbers will make you understand

    Convertxtodvd 4 C2duo 2.26 1 movie convert on HD 43 min
    Convertxtodvd 4 C2Duo 2,53 1 movie convert on HD 39 min
COnvertxtodvd 4 QuadCore 2,26 1 movie convert on HD 34 min
COnvertxtodvd 4 QuadCOre 2,26 1 movie convert on SSD Postvile 12 min

SO as u can see in real life All the components must be equal Your C2duo is to Fast for a HD disk and the time that you will see the 4 Cores at 100% its only on Bencmarks or an fast SSD that can folows.

WHen i Was trying to get the 9700m Gt from My friends 8930g C2duo 2.53mhz
We change the Prosessors for 2 weeks and it works like charm ITS REALLY easy So Yes U can add Q9000 or Q9100 on your Acer THey Use the Same mainboard chipset and cooling system ,when u do it add a good Paste on cpu and cooling system 2-3 degrees lower Silver paste if you can.
To be sure if the Model you have is the same as ours in Greece i will give you the full names of the three Acers 8930 g that we test.

    8930G-944G64BN T9400 2.53
    8930G-904G50BN Q9000 2.00
    8930G-844G32Bn p8400 2.26

My point of view is that if it works dont change anything you will not see any diference.but if you want try the 1.13 bios is the most stable this time.
And yes use the old finger print because i heard that the new has some bugs

many thanks for the reply , i guess im best to leave the bios alone as its been running for last 12months with not issues .
As for the finger print reader i will leave it till another update comes out ...unless someone else knows how to fix the issue ?
I have read that the update fixes the issue with explorer 8 ....but if you cannot get it to work then what use is that !!

    Cheers

Thanks a lot for all these informations! Well I am quite interested to add a q9xxx because i do a lot of multitasking and I've got a quite fast SSD from corsair so I think a q9xxx would be suitable. I was quite worried to add a q9000 because of sancimax saying he failed in adding a q9000... Don't worry for the paste, I've some MX-2 in stock ;) So you think I should buy a q9000 or a q9100 (or even a qx9300 if i go mad^^) and upgrade my 8930? thanks mate =)

I have no problems adding the Q9000 to my friends 8930g.
The WInter you will have no problems even at 2800mhz on QuadCore but the summer at 2266mhz it has REALLY hi temps so If you have a cooling solution go for the 9000 ,if it was Desktop i was telling you the higher the better but in laptop the cooling solutions its a problem. So Q9000 and overclocked the winter to the 9.5 multiplier 2,53mhz.
Ps. Try to go on a store that is your friend and tell him to add the Quad core on your laptop and if its locked bios then dont buy it.

Ps2. If you can please add the scores from your windows 7 ultimate x64 and what nvidia drivers u have ?

Has anyone had problems getting the web camera to work with this laptop since installing Win7 x64? I can't seem to get it working...I've downloaded and tried all the crystal eye drivers from the acer uk website, but no luck. Plus an additional note I cant get it to work on ubuntu either and it used to work before I formatted vista and installed Win7. Can anyone tell me of drivers that they have installed which worked. Thanks

    Hello everybody,
:( stupid me but i am getting my acer 8930G this weekend, if the plane doesnot crash :D

I ordered also an pcmcia card (sweex firewire) as they said it would fit. i am having however doubts now as i read the quickmanual and there they are talking about that there is an expresscard. now i read that they are totally different! is that so? does the pcmcia card enters the LT?

and as i want to change to w7 64bit..... does someone know this is working?

Thanks a lot for your time and responses.

    paul.
