does anyone know if a 9800M GT card will run in a 8930G ? i have read that it wont but can anyone shed any light on this ? is the 9700m gt card the fastest that can be fitted that is 100% guaranteed to work ?

    I was looking at this
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nvidia-512MB-...emQQptZPCC_Video_TV_Cards?hash=item19b7b20369

But I dont think it would work because of the extra connector and its MXM 2.1 Type HE :( (wrongly advertised on ebay by the seller)

For our 8930G we need MXM 2.1 Type III card. So 9700M GT is the fastest card available.

Cheers , this is what i thought ,i was told the 9800 would fit but prob not boot , needs more power to run it , need 75watts ...but motherboard only puts out 65watts .If a bios update came out with the updated voltages for this card then it might work , but its a gamble ..unless i could actually see this running in a 8930 then i would not even contemplate getting one ...why does it have to be so complicated !!! lol

Have you tried 195.81 NVIDIA drivers? Monitor brightness adjustment does not seem to work with these.

// edit: 186.xx must be used, from Acer website. Which rules out latest CUDA support and CoreAVC 2.0 :(

This is not an actual technical problem but it's really bugging me all the same. On the display of an 8930G there are rubber stripes that run along the top of the display above the LCD screen and on the sides. On the top of mine a part of it has broken off. I know it's only trivial but it's bugging the life out of me. I was wondering if you could get another one from Acer or if you can get one off ebay or if anyone has had this on their Acer.

Much appreciated if someone could give me some pointers. More is just going to peel away at some point and become more unsighty.

Hey all I updated to bios 1.14 but I got some problems. The FN+F4 would not put the pc to sleep it would make it sound like it is going to sleep, blank the screen and come back on. Only going to sleep in the Vista menu would work. Also after coming back from sleep i could not change the power modes between performance etc. screen would not dim or brighten. Anyone have similar problems? All I did was flash with the insydex64 flasher and it seemed to have flashed fine. I'm going to flash back to 1.13...

Hi all , I have been following this forum for a while now but only now do I have a problem I can't find an answer to and would like some help.

My DVD Drive HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10N has mysteriously stopped reading any disc that I insert. It makes a couple of sounds when disk is inserted but there is no 'spinning up' noise. The disc cannot be seen in explorer or from media player e.t.c.

I have resorted to wiping my windows 7 64 bit installation and going back to the Alt-F10 acer recovery, still it doesnt work. There doesnt seem to be anything on acer's site regarding firmware for the drive either.

I can see the drive in system devices and it reports that is it working correctly. I tried to take the back of the laptop off ot no avail lol - will look for a dismantling guide to reseat the drive to see if it helps.

Any ideas or if I need to any recommendations on a replacement drive.
    All the best
    Eric

    Hello all.

Im Andy from Milton Keynes in England.

Im the proud owner of a new 8930G laptop.
I have just upgraded to Windows 7 and have a slight problem. As you know it has the Acer Bio Protection finger print device. When you start up windows and you get the screen where you enter your password it should also come up with the box in the top left of the screen for your finger print but doent, only when you start to type your password it does but then it has a question mark in the box and still wont read your finger print.
I have stored my finger prints as it did work when i ran Vista.

Also while im on do you know if my 8930G has room for the Bluetooth module as mine does not have one fitted but has the button for bluetooth.

Thanks for your time and help in advance.

    Andy

Hi, I have the screensaver working fine with win7 on both my 8930 and my 5920 just fine. I assume you right clicked on the scr and installed it then ran the adobe flash player manager to allow access to the webcam...

About bluetooth, I haven't any idea as my laptop already has Acer bluetooth module installed. I will see if I can find any info. You can search for parts on ebay.

I have updated to the latest version and unfortunately still not reading any disc I try.
I have tried CD, DVD, BluRay, Blank discs - all the same. The computer just reacts like there is nothing there. For example if you open the tray and close it with nothing in - that is the same 'sound' I get with a disc in, just doesnt seem to want to spin up.
    Thanks for the suggestion

Does the drive show up in device manager? If it does then try uninstalling it and then see if Windows picks it up as new hardware

That looks remotely impossible. Can you post the link to their claim ? From a quick research, I think we may be able to slot in MXM 2.1 Type IV card which is slightly bigger but has identical connector. But this is just a theory !

Yes , it does pick up the drive if I uninstall it - in device manager it shows as working correctly.
Pretty sure now it is a faulty drive, oh well will send the laptop off to be repaired.

I have the exact same problem here, only with my Optiarc DVDRW AD-7580S. Just noticed it last week. I can only guess when this started, since i do not use it that often.

Also had this relatively small problem. Two pieces of rubber where gone on the right side, laptop was still sitting stable, but when i pressed the lower right corner of my 8930g i could notice it. I couldnt even find the pieces so i could fix it myself. I too found it pretty irritating nonetheless.

First plan was to rip such a piece of my older laptop, but those s where stuck tight.I cut and superglued it in the correct place. Kind of a band-aid solution there but i worked out just fine here.

looks like i may have got a bad x9100 CPU off ebay
i have been having random blue screens since i fitted it, they can be 6-7 hours after i boot or just 10mins, there is no set pattern and some of them have been when I'm not evening doing anything on the laptop, its just running background programs.
i have put my old CPU back in and not had 1 crash in the 12hrs its been running

did once for 15mins, but that didnt show anything up
the cpu did throttle back to 1.5ghz to stay cool though
just strange its not having any crashs with my old cpu back in
i had the blue screens in win7 64bit and vista 32bit

on a side note i see acer have put the 1.14 bios back up on there website

15 min stress test is not enough

Ideally keep the stress test running overnight for 8-9 hrs to judge the stability.
Yours could also have been simple windows file corruption that u got BSODs.

its not about stressing it though, as said it will crash even when its not doing anything
what on 2 different hdd`s, 1 with win 7 and other with vista and how come now the old cpu`s back in the laptops running fine???
if it was file curruption it would still be there even after changing cpu`s

also did the operating systems update the processer driver ? mine did so now in device manager , under processor it has the x9100 listed twice .
Vista 32 bit found new hardware and installed drivers , works a treat but also after installing chip i did a clean install of windows 7 64bit on my other hard drive ...they are both working fine with this new chip , not stress tested it ...but working fine under normal use like surfing net or just decoding a small film / file .
Do you think you may have a heat issue if it throttle back when it run the stress test , maybe needs better thermal paste , just an idea .
There is a way of reading what the BSOD says but i dont now how to do it , but have heard there is such a way , then you would know what is causing it , surely someone on here can put you in the right direction to finding the way the read it ??? i really think this is the only way your going to find out if it is the chip or a driver issue .

Mate your best bet is to re-install windows 7 and then doing stress test. Just to check if CPU is the culprit and not anything else.

Yes i would try a re-install first and if still getting BSOD then you will have to find a way to read it , then you will know if its chip related ...hope you get it sorted

ok i put the cpu back in and a clean install of win 7
the laptop has been on 8hrs and its just had its first BSOD about 5mins ago.
i really cant see the point in the stress test as it only BSOD with this CPU, with the old 2.2gig CPU the laptop never BSOD, so what else would it be

have a look on the net and see how you can read the BSOD , im sure it saves it somewhere on your pc so you can read exactly what it said ...

Well I kind of thought that as well. It has the Bluetooth button on the right but when I press it it comes on the screen saying: No Bluetooth Device.

Also on my old Acer Aspire laptop there is a sticker on the back saying Bluetooth and other things.

Now this one has no sticker so im guessing it dont have Bluetooth.
