Ok I have finally managed to enable VT by going though bios dump/python script thinggy. It is very simple and managed to work it out on Windows 7 X64.

If anyone needs help ask me. Simple process takes less than 10 min.

Now the only thing left ..... Find a way to bios overclock my X9100 :D

Yes please ! I personally would appreciate as much information as possible (no matter how obvious) as id like to enable VT but have never done anything as complex.

A complete walkthrough would be awesome (and worthy of sticky :D)

    Regards,

    Dave.

    Hi!

Long time reader, first time poster. I was looking for some advice about upgrading the CPU of my Acer 8930g. My laptop has the 2.0Ghz T5800 Core Duo chip in it and I would like to upgrade it to a CPU that is both faster and has VT-X capability, so I can run WinXP in Win7 as I have some old apps that just won't work under Win7.

Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks! :D

    Hi
Well i have just upgraded my T5800 cpu to a X9100 (3ghz ) cpu , was very easy to do and you get the ram to run at full speed , extra bonus !! :)
The T5800 only lets the ram run at 800mhz ( i think ..lol correct me if im wrong ) but soon as you fit the X9100 it allows the ram to run at 1066 mhz ...
There are a few of us on here who have done this upgrade is i think its the best cpu to fit that is 100% guaranteed to work .
I got mine from extremeprocessor on ebay ...here is a link - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-...62QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?hash=item1c0e8587ca
delivery is very quick , took 3 days !! very good seller .

    Hope this helps .
    Karl

Hi all, I was wondering what sort of temperatures your x9100 were running at. I've tried HWMonitor from CPUID but it tells me that my x9100 core#0 is at -9 degC and core#1 is at -10 degC with no variation at all.... I'm guessing this is wrong? Any ideas as to which programmes are suitable for monitoring temps on Windows 7?

    Cheers.

Has anyone tried the bios version 1.14A of 29/12/2009? In ACER's page indicates 1.14, although it is 1.14a.

Do you know if the version of 1.14A has solved the problems of throttling? On another forum commented that they had been fixed in the model with P8600 processor and 9700M GT graphics card.

I can not prove, because since December 14 have it at Acer. I think Acer has no idea. They are going to change the motherboard and graphics card and before they changed the processor.

Yes I bought a NZXT CRYO-LX because my gpu was always getting to hot, its a great cooler and I have been running it now for about 8 months, better fps on games, much better temps, great cooler, abit expensive though as post from us to uk bumps price up but its worth it mate, if you want more info then post it on here or pm me, it does overhang slightly but its not an issue, it cools everything that needs cooling, best cooler for large notebooks on the market id say

Think i was the first to upgrade my cpu to x9100 about a year ago now, my temps were also fine but I found its always been my gpu that was always getting hot, does anyone else have this problem?, my cryo lx cooler has sorted it out, but it would be nice to know if its a common thing with these laptops or is it just mine :(

Does anybody know what is the highest frequency the ram can run? I've seen somme 1333mhz and 1600mhz sodimm modules... And I had already seen sem before the release of the mobile i7. Do you think our laptops can handle such frequencies?

your P8400 runs at 1066mhz bus speed so thats what your ram will be running at, putting in faster ram wouldnt help
you can also check it by running CPU-Z program

    Hi again,

Can anyone reccomend a good quality/sturdy bag that my 8930g will fit in?

I'm likely to be taking it abroad with me so a back pack style one that will also fit some other stuff in is preferable.

    Thanks.

For the ram, I found some interested informations. The alienware and clevo laptops can run 1333mhz ram because ram and fsb are not synchronized is their bios. It may be in ours.

The new 1.14a bios is good. The previous version disabled the cinedash console, but this appears to be rectified in the new version.

    Hi,

I use a Targus (see this link http://www.targus.com/uk/product_details.asp?sku=TCC008EU ) which I got from PC World when I bought my laptop back at the end of August. Suits me great.

Note: I've been lurking in here for a couple of months and have followed all the posts in this thread with interest. I've listed my system specs in my sig and will doubtless be seeking help soon as I've a few queries. Any responses would be welcomed. Thanks in advance for any and all help, in return I'll try and help if I can.

    See you all soon,

    Murray

I think this is a step towards the throttling issues that alot of our 8930 are having, I have read the main thread about this.
This is exactly what happened to me, no throttling or overheating until I changed my os, even reverting back did not help, I have all up to date drivers ect, im sure the answer lies somewhere here, can anybody help, im abit shocked nobody has picked up on Ghostalitious question as i think it maybe the key to the throttling.

Ok THIS IS FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WITH THE 8930 THROTTLING PROBLEMS
After rerading alot of info, all weekend trying to sort out my problem with the famous 8930 thottling issue I have finally sorted it (most parts have been mentioned before in bits on here and different forums)

Ok we all know that the heat problems cause the gpu to downclock and sometimes its not just heat as it downclocks after a couple of mins, maybe a motherboard/bios problem, anyway, the point is that when it downclocks we all lose fps on our games/lag, very frustrating.
Lots of ways have been tried, what I needed was to stop my notebook from downclocking EVER.
The only way I have found is to have the clock run at max all the time by disabling powermizer so I had no more downclocking, I tested this and it works, I have no more downclocking/lags, no more 60 fps drop to 20 fps, all my games run smooth.............. GREAT!!
This works on xp/vista and is abit more complicated on win7 (which i am running with a 9700m gt).
This solved one part of it but I still had high temps that would cause my notebook to shutdown, the high temps only started when i changed os which i have mentioned before. I solved that too, there were two things i did, 1 i undervolted and 2, this is what cooled everything, mainly my gpu as that was running very hot, I bought the life saver for all 8930 notebooks, a cryo lx cooler, now all my problems are gone, no downclocking, no shutting down, ive even found i can increase my res and graphics in game more, I know theres alot of owners out there that had/have the same problem as me, im not sure if this thread is still active but if you need step by step instructions let me know, its very easy to do !!!!!!! OMG Im so happy hahaha :)
