I used to have the problem but mine went away after removing Acers power managment utility. Since then I've moved onto Windows 7 (Clean install and no Acer software apart from Launch Manager and Bio Protection) and havn't experienced any throttling :)

Ps. I open up the bottom cover and clean the dust regularly, specially the fan area ... that helps alot.

Here is a complete noob tutorial to enable VT in Acer 8930G using windows 7 X86 or X64. (Theoretically should also work in Vista equivalents)
(Obviously its patching and flashing Bios. So risks are involved. Don't miss/skip any step. I am not responsible if you end up with 18.4" brick.)

    Requirements:
    1. Download bios 1.13 from Acer website here and extract the files in to folder c:\1.13

    2. Download SLIC 2.1 modded 1.14A bios from here and extract the files in to folder c:\1.14

    3. Download and install Python 2.6.4 (Depending on the type of OS installed)
    X86
    X64

    4. Download Python script vtenable.py and copy it to c:\Python26

    Preparation:
    1. Install the 1.14 bios as you would normally by running InsydeFlash utility. Have some patience and let the laptop reboot to windows desktop. Confirm the installed bios is V1.14 by running dxdiag.exe.

    2. Delete 1.14 folder, we don't need it anymore.

    3. Open the folder 1.13. Find and open the file platform.ini. On the line where you find the entry BackupName change it to BackupName=c:\Python26\backupbios.fd just like in the below pic.
    [IMG] Save and close it.

    4. Now in 1.13 folder, run InsydeFlash.exe as administrator.

    5. When it displays message "Are you sure you want to flash Bios?" Click Cancel (Important)

    6. These 2 files vtenbable.py script as well as the backupbios.fd must now be in the c:\Python26 directory.

    7. Now run CMD.exe as Administrator, and type the following bold in sequence cd\ and then cd python26 and type vtenable.py backupbios.fd KM2_113.fd

    8. If patching goes well, it should return to command prompt like this
    [IMG]
If you get errors, ask for help and don't go ahead to next step !

    Final Flashing:
    1. Copy the newly created bios file KM2_113.fd (Find it in c:\Python26) to 1.13 folder and overwrite the existing one. (Don't worry about the filename. The bios inside that file is 1.14)

    2. Now run InsydeFlash.exe as Administrator found in the same folder. This time, click OK when it asks you to Flash the Bios

If you have followed all these steps correctly, you should have 2.1 SLIC, VT enabled Bios on restart and pat yourself on the back :D

    Hi
do you have to use SLIC 2.1 modded 1.14A bios or could you use the standard 1.14A bios off acer website ? im not bothered about SLIC 2.1 .

    @ El Zari

The latest 1.14a bios from the Acer website restores the cinedash console. Not sure which bios you have used, but it sounds like it is the previous iteration which takes that functionality away from you.

Alternatively, you can power off your 8930g and remove the battery for a couple of minutes. This can restore the cinedash as sometimes it does deactivate itself, for whatever reason.

    Hope this help!

Sounds like you may have mixed up the two bioses, try again following the guide carefully. By the way ... It is important that you install the 1.14 bios first WITHOUT running the vtenable.py step and let the laptop restart.

Received and installed my X9100 today. Took about ten minutes and was really easy to do. I was a little apprehensive as I've never upgraded a laptop before (loads of PCs, etc) but it was really simple. I enabled VT in a similar amount of time and now have Win7 with proper virtualisation.

Thanks for the advice in this thread!

It am staggered why Acer just don't enable it. Makes no sense whatsoever. Oh well. I'm still running 1.13 with VT. I'll only upgrade BIOS now if absolutely necessary.

I got my CPU from a guy in the UK called laptopmonkey. It worked out the same price as the overseas seller. I bought it on Saturday, it arrived on Tuesday. So I am happy!!! :D

Anyone want to buy my old processor off me... ;-)

The bluetooth launchpad button controls the internal USB port not visible from the outside so an external USB connected device will not work out of box.

Yeah it's good news! Well NHC stands for Notebook Hardware Control I assume. It's a tool which allows you to control the speedfan, the voltage, the fsb of you processor. I managed to overclock the cpu of the Dell Inspiron of my father from 2.0ghz to 2.8ghz thanks to it (it was running on XP). I'd like to do so with my lappy. If anyone manage to run NHC on W7 I'll be glad to know how! Cheers

For me this would not work, though Python (64bit) was installed correctly and py extention files were registered ok when trying to run the command like I got the error

"'vtenable.py' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

I reinstalled but no joy. What I had to do was I created a windows shortcut to vtenable and then edited the Target so it read "C:\Python26\vtenable.py backupbios.fd KM2_113.fd".

I then ran my shortcut and it appears to work correctly though the script box just flickers on and off so I had to quickly take a print screen to see what was being outputted. This luckiy was identical to your screen shot (Updating, VSS, Bios, Writing output, Done).

Anyways went on to write this file (which wrote a lot quicker then 1.14 original) and...

So cheers sanke1 /me sends virtual beers :D

It is not a "port" it is just a device hardwired into the bus. Fair enough sometimes you can remove internal bluetooth/wireless adapters (though they still are effectively hardwired) that are running on the usb but you can't then just plug in a 3rd party replacement.

I'm having problems getting my 8930g to put bluray on my panasonic 42" TV. I eventually found I had to change the display setting to external monitor only, which stopped the error message about grpahics drivers. but I still get no sound on the tv and nothing on the laptop either. That said, I can play sound and images through the HDMI cable(I double checked that yesterday with a music file on media player). Just not with Acer Arcade, which I have updated today and made no difference. The Blu ray player works fine if I just watch it on the laptop but I wanted the "full monty" big tv and chuffin great sound system for the full effect. Anybody got any ideas? I've checked the settings and pretty sure the sound was on HDMI output.

Have you tried powerdvd 9, thats what I use to watch my bluray on my tv. I just plug the hdmi cable in and change hdmi on tv and the picture comes onto the tv screen, open powerdvd and play bluray, never had to change any settings on the laptop.

The blu-ray licensing allows to us to display the video only on 1 screen at a time :(

You need to make our TV as default display in Nvidia driver settings. Make sure you have latest Nvidia HDMI drivers installed. Also try disabling realtek sound device as it might conflict with NVIDIA HDMI.

Best (non free and ridiculously costly) software to play Blu-rays in windows is Arcsoft's TotalMedia Theatre 3. It also allows you to watch movies in Windows Media Center. Well blame Sony and Co. for stupid licensing terms and costs.

Some 8930G units suffer keyboard lag and missed keystrokes. Mine is having same problem. This has something to do with synaptics touchpad driver. Locking touchpad or uninstalling synaptics driver makes the keyboard lag go away. Probably we need bios fix for this problem.

I bought an Acer 8930G refurb on the sales a month ago for a relatively cheap £500, since then i have had to reformat the drive because the seller didn't do a very good job of wiping away excess traces of viruses / faulty drivers etc the thing was BSOD'ing left right and center so a fresh install of Vista & Formatted HDD was the only option ( In my opinion ).

Running on Vista Home Basic 32Bit
    Intel T6600 2.2GhZ
    Nvidia 9600M GT
    5000 GB Samsung HDD
    CD / DVD R/W ( NO BLU RAY )
    No bluetooth either
    Intel 5100 WLAN
    4GB DDR3 1066 Hz

where can i find all the correct drivers? i have been installing multiple driver detecting softwares to no avail. It did not did come with any back up CD's etc before thats mentioned.

There is all the drivers you need

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_8930.html

If you have trouble with the sound (no 5.1), uninstall the sound driver from device manager and download the realtek r240 driver.
    Hope that helps
