Just thought Id add this here, if any of you are having trouble when gaming with games slowing down, lag, low fps (throttling) then unclewebb has made a program that fixes these issues, I couldnt play any games on my 8930 without it keep lagging, with this new program I can play most games on very high (slightly lower res though) and they run nice a smooth all day.
The program is called throttlestop, it can be found here.......

Sorry I dont have the time to look but you need to download
empowering technology framework first before you can get any of the other apps to work, eg epower ect.

The Acer site is not showing any option to download this, mmm, you will have to google it and try and find it, if you cant, I have all my drivers for the acer 8930 and there is empowering technology on there to somewhere (I have so many discs Ill have to search for it)

I should be on later, so let me no if you dont have any luck...

im just finding 2006 versions of the Empowering Technology, i've been searching for ages this forum was one of my last resorts.

Atm I don't have the correct AHCI driver no matter where i get it from :S ( all my driver detecter software say it's out of date without exception.

I'm currently running some weird Realtek HD Audio driver which is running uber quiet. ( not sure i even have the Nvidia HD Audio driver )

The touchpad to the left of the keyboard isn't responsive except for the mute button.

Ok the touchpad on the left(cinedash), try this, shutdown laptop unplug from mains, take battery out for a min, pt battery back in,plug back mains, boot, does it work now?

Yes I had the trouble with quite realtek drivers, downloading realtek r240 sorted the problem out for me.
After its installed and working, right click the sound icon in the task bar and click playback devices, click the speakers....realtek audio, check levels are max, selected dolby prologic in enancments, should be ok now

In truth, I wouldnt both with the acer software, it just slows your laptop down, I dont have any acer software on mine

    yeah that fixed the cinedash.

realtek r240 do you know what version? and does it work in contrast with the dolby home theatre?

its looking troublesome enough finding the software i may give up on that for now.

I've tried that link before i install the framework first which it says is ok but when i try to instal another piece of empowering technology it just fails on me.

Currently downloading the Realtek High Definiton Audio Driver 2.40 will post again after restart, thanks for the help so far.

Edit: cant see any "Dolby Pro logic" under enhancements. Soundcard is ALC 889 for reference..

i must have downloaded the wrong one a dolby tab does not show up for me

i bought mine from currys who buy all the rights from acer, and so acer will not help me in their customer support and i would have to pay £76 for an annual fee for support where it would take 4-6 weeks sending it to them and then recieving it to fix the problem.

thanks, i used some of the drivers off that, but they are all out of date so i prefer to get the more up to date drivers from the individual hardware makers site.

Does anyone know if it's safe to remove this panel regarding voiding the warranty? My laptop is dying for a clean but I have like 2.5 years left on it, so I'd hate to lose it :p

What does the new BIOS do? Is there a list of bugs it fixes? What mods have been added to it?

Right Click "My Computer" > "Manage"

Then Click "Disk Managment" in the new window. Im guessing that may help you, but im not too familiar with it myself, so Google!

Ps. More info would help e.g. any new stuff installed, what you did etc

My hard drive still loads and something else still loads in the BIOS which I presume is the other partition.

I checked disk management and it states the partition is there (albeit without any of the 16GB of music - not important but still..). When I right click it, the only option is "help". I can't assign it anything. :s

I didn't install anything and I just deleted some pictures from my PC. I haven't changed any program settings etc. I tried a restore which didn't fix the problem.

My girlfriend may have ejected the partition (if possible, got no idea) accidentally when trying to eject her usb drive (from that icon in the start menu). But i'm not sure if she did or not, and it doesn't explain why all the files are gone.

Yes I will do, you see the problem is there is no vent where the CPU is seated so my cryo lx cooler would be alot more beneficial if I could make a vent there for the air to blow into and cool the CPU more efficiently.

To me it looks like your partition has somehow changed into a hidden EISA recovery partion, if you don't mind losing whats on the drive you can try the following

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/...en-recovery-or-diagnostic-partition-in-vista/

FYI - Take my advice with care, im not a techie :)

EDIT. By doing the above, I don't think the partition would be physically formatted so you may have a chance to recover your data using Undelete tools, but like I said before, I'm not sure!

Yes, the Acer PSD tool didn't work after the drive disappeared so I removed that. I think the two events are related.

Do those instructions work for Windows 7? There was nothing important on the drive other than music (16GB), but I have them on another computer, albeit in a very disordered way.

Cheers. Fixed the problem. No idea why it became hidden or why all the files were deleted but got the hard drive back - least it wasn't anything broken inside the laptop. Music is gone but don't really mind. :)

Now I just have to get the screen fixed and all will be good again. hehe.

Every time I use part disk to fix the problem and then restart, the drive goes missing again. I don't know what to do know :(

use "msconfig" to disable startup items one by one and eliminate them till you find the culprit

Start menu then type "msconfig", in "General" tab select "Selective Startup" then in "startup" tab tick bare minimum to your knowledge and start adding one each reboot. Long process but still, it might get you your answer!

    Hi
did you install 4gb or 8gb of ram ? where did you get the ram from and how much ?
got any more info on the ram as i might think of doing this upgrade if it makes a big difference .Mine has Elpida DDR3 installed at moment .
Did you have to do any adjustments or did it auto detect ram timing ?

    Is this it - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-072-KS
If thats it what about this with 7-7-7-20 timing - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-074-KS

    Any help most appreciated
