Glad to hear it worked for you!

Shame Acer don't just bring out a revised BIOS and make this feature standard.

So we can identify where is the difference why it doesn't work on these self-upgrades.

    Sure here you go,
CPU-Z reports the (useless?) info that:

Intel Mobile Core 2 Quad Q9000
    codename Penryn
    socket P (478)
    45 nm

    Fimily: 6, 7, A
    Ext. Family: 6, 17, R0

    Model: Aspire 8930 PSMBOU-1234567
    Chipset Intel PM45 rev 07
    Southbridge: 82801IM (ICH9-M)

Using bios 1.13, I think it came with bios 1.10 (but not sure).

Are there any other tools I could lookup for more information?
Or is this enough for you to determine possible differences in models?

    Hello all,
Just purchased this laptop a week ago told by store that it was the last one they could get there hands on.
Aspire 8930G-664G32MN T6600 removed hard drive to make room for Intel X25M 160GB SSD formated drive I took out to use as data drive first removing the two hidden partitions giving me back 22gb.
Checking back over the forum to page 91 "Freezy" listed above his cpuid details , checking mine today I have the exact same motherboard as his quad-core and am now thinking the X9100 I have ordered should have been the q9000 which was 100 quid cheaper for OEM versions.
Its possible Acer have ordered to many MB for the top models which did`nt sell as good as the mid range model and have just used up there stock to get rid of them.BTW mine cost me 499 euro`s new thats why I dont mind the expense of the SSD and CPU upgrade as I still come out well under the 1799 euro`s asking price for the top model, I also have the 9700M GT video card so should be OK.
WPI is at 5.6 for CPU and RAM then 6.5, 6.5, 7.6 SSD
I get the sinking feeling I should of gone for the q9000? what do you guys think?

I put a x9100 in mine and it has made a heck of a difference, though I upgraded from a T5800. The school of thought says that it all depends whether your software and operating system can utilise the quad core efficiently. As most software these days is optimised for two cores, most software won't benefit from the extra two cores.

I too was going to look at the Q9000 but was worried about compatibility and saw the x9100 as a way of giving my laptop a good couple of years extra life. I used my 8930g for a lot of music production and now it is blisteringly fast.

Of course, it's all up to you, really...

    Hi Guys.

I have just acquired an 8930 with a P7350 processor which is more than adequate for most of what I need it for, but as I've got quite a bit of video work to do I'd like to make it a bit faster.

What are the limitations in terms of upgrading the processor.

    Thanks for any guidance.

Hey guys, just upgraded to 8935G. It looks more normal than the alien looking 8930G. But apart from backlit keyboard and ATI HD4670XT, its hasn't been much of a change

Ohh btw I upgraded the original T6600 processor with X9100 in no time.
The only good thing is that the default Acer bios for 8935G comes with 2.1 SLIC and VT enabled :D

    I currently have a T9400 2.53GHz, 1066Mhz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache
I'm getting a 6.1 from WPI for Processor.

Did anyone who upgraded from T9400 to X9100 experience much better performance especially in frame rates and fps on games?
I have a 9700M GT in mine and I don't know if upgrading the proc will help boost performance coz I know most games know are cpu intensive as well and not just gpu intensive.

Any feedback from anyone with the same configuration who upgraded and did a before and after comparison?

Take WEI scores with pinch of salt.
I will tell you why. I had 8930G with T9400 processor and Elpida 4GB DDR3 ram. I used to get 6.1 for both CPU and RAM in WEI. Then I upgraded to X9100 CPU and my CPU and RAM scores both jumped to 6.6. (Windows 7 X64)

Now I got 8935G. I put the same processor x9100 and Ram in to it and while the CPU was consistent at 6.6, RAM score dropped to 5.9

Now its interesting to find out why CPU and RAM scores are always same in 8930G

    Heres my scores

    Here is my spec:

Note that I overclocked my 9700 to:
    core: 666
    mem: 1000
    shader: 1650

I also removed some of the protective grill above the fan, allowing for more direct airflow.

    @ Freezy

We all get too exited too quickly. The Q9000 beats X9100 in WEI because its 4 cores vs 2 cores. But the performance of the faster cores of X9100 would be more visible in real world.

@sanke1, before you switched to your 8935.

    I thought you originally had a T6600 on your 8930g? or a T9400? before upgrading to X9100.
I have a T9400 and really interested how much improvement for frame rates on games will I get if I jump to X9100. Do you have any firsthand experience you want to share with specific game titles?

Could also be the ITE Consumer Infrared receiver driver (ITECIR). It is used to receive signals from a remote control.

When I installed Windows 7 on my 6935G, there were only 2 unknown devices, the fingerprint reader and the infrared receiver.

I guess it's the one that is located just right of the card reader. The ITECIR receiver can be used with any remote? My 8930G don't have remote, but it has the receiver, but I can't see any uses for it.

Also, what is the maximum refresh frequency of the 18,4 screen? I wish it could be 3D capable.

    Regards.

I upgraded 8930G's T9400 to X9100. I can say little improvement. (If I have to yap out a random number I would say 15%)

But in 8935G, there is huge performance leap going from T6600 to X9100 (Also because CPU now run at full 1066Mhz FSB and RAM matches the frequency. Previously 800 Mhz). The machine practically screams through games.

I can play Dirt 2 in 1920x1080 at 40fps. MSAA off, Shadows medium and rest everything to High/Ultra

    3D Mark 06 score is around 7200

If you do windows update, windows finds and installs Infrared drivers. So high chances that Unknown device is JMicron Card reader. And yes Acer MCE remote will work with our laptop.

I also have a [email protected] and going to upgrade soon to a x9100, memory runs at 400MHZ, but basically is 1066 (did the Serial number google "lookup tool")

Had the same problem here, try renaming the file "KM2000FR.119" inside the windows directory, call it "KM2000FR.fd", this worked for me.

On a side note, the new ACER Launch Manager caused my screen display to be very low in brightness with no way to alter it so I had to roll back to the old DRITEK verison. Anyone else found this, or a workaround?

FWIW, I couldn't find any difference in the BIOS options after the update so am wondering what benefits it's supposed to bring? Anyone found any differences?

Also, am considering upgrading to the X9100 cpu that seems to be the fastest this laptop can run from what I read on this forum. Apart from allowing me to enable VT would this likely be a significant improvement for me from my current T6400?

Never having done a cpu upgrade before anything I should be aware of? Would my memory run at the faster speed or is my FSB fixed at 800MHz?

    Murray

I upgraded my 8930g from a T5800 to X9100 and the speed increase was significant. I don't use my laptop for games, but for music production and video editing, the power boost is great for me. Plus, the VT thing was necessary as I had some old software I wanted to run for archiving purposes.

    So I am a very happy 8930g user!!! :D

And what S-SPEC Number does you"re x9100 have: the SLAQD or the QBDW..?
    what the difference actually.?
I also read somewhere on this forum (forgot where) that you gotta have the QBDW but don't know why.

Yes, you flash your bios with the new 1.19 version. Then use the flashing software to download a backup of the 1.19 that's been on your 8930g, then run vtenable.py to create the hacked 1.19 - then flash again with the hacked 1.19.

    I don't know what that is. :p I just upgraded from a T5800 to a X9100. It was easy.

If you are buying OEM version then you shouldn't worry about that. However if the seller has stated S-SPEC number, it's an engineering sample (ES). Be bit careful and get QBDW with C0 stepping as it's same as retail/OEM.

But these days you can find OEM X9100s at same price so as a safe bet go for those.

Thanks X64man having checked MB number its version 001 and not 004 so X9100 it is .
Got an OEM version from the UK at the weekend fitted and running fast WEI went up to 6,5 6,5 6,5 6,5 7,6 so have no complaints there, computer response is lightning fast.
Windows 7 Ultimate retail on Intel SSD X25M as main disk backup is 320GB,
9700gt graphics runs everthing fine, I have found with Adobe CS4 Master Suite that Premier Pro works my video files much faster around 45mins for 4GB old system now complete 12mins so happy teddy here.
Like to thank you guys for all the info on this site has helped me no end.

Like to ask here if everyone had same problem as I when changeing to SSD and Cpu X9100 I had to re-activate windows via the telephone as using code on the retail box was not accepted.
Microsoft going overboard with checks I think.

I wouldn't worry. I had the same trouble with Win7 Ult when I upgraded my hard drives. The reactivation doesn't take too long, but seems a bit pointless really.
