    QHBQ is the batch.

OEM means without heatsink or retail 3 year warrenty.

In fact it's an engineering sample (ES) so will have no warrenty and technically should not be sold.

The last stepping (E0) is only around as ESs.

im sure it will be fine, but like anything you get from china there is always a little risk, but his feedback looks ok.
as said no heatsink but you wouldnt get one anyway even with the retail(which mine was) as its a mobile chip for a laptop.

    They don't sell them retail.

Retail - Packaging heatsink 3 year warrenty.
OEM - Basic packaging (no warrenty for mobile CPUs from intel).
ES - Packaging provided by seller, intel does not want these to be sold.

Hey, I am seriously considering a proc upgrade, but i'm kinda unsure on which one to buy.
In your opinion should i get :
New Intel CORE2 X9100 QHBQ Super low Temp! on eBay (end time 23-Oct-10 13:11:55 BST)

New Intel CORE2 e8435 SLAQD OEM! similar to x9100! on eBay (end time 03-Nov-10 15:20:19 GMT)

New Intel CORE2 X9100 SLB48 OEM! on eBay (end time 02-Nov-10 01:28:36 GMT)

The middle one seems to be about 70 quid cheaper and apparently is "the same"

Any advice would be appreciated ^_^

oh btw @meaker, those aren't the stock clocks of the x9100 in your signature are they? how did you manage to overclock it?

by the look of it any of the 3 will be fine, but the none x9100`s will more than likely be multiplier locked so no easy overclock.

as for the overclock, use a program called throttlestop

it runs at 800mhz because of the cpu running at that speed also.
nvidia isnt the problem, your motherboard is, it cant take the Q cpu`s
to get the ram to run ay 1066mhz you need to change to a cpu that runs at 1066, like the x9100 etc

Obviously price would dictate that I choose the cheapest one, but i would like to be assured that it is essentially the SAME as the oem version.

I use throttlestop the whole time... but you can overclock with it.... how?? :D

the cheapest of the 3 is the one that will more than likely be multipler locked so no overclocking

in throttlestop you tick "set multipler" and change it
but if the cpu is locked which most are you cant change it

the 8930g came with 2 motherboards, 1 will run the Q9000 and the other wont, you have the one that wont so a cpu like the x9100 is the other choice.
the x9100 runs at 1066mhz so the ram will also uprate to 1066mhz once the cpu is in

    hi ,, look this

Here is some absolutely correct info for people wanting to upgrade their 8930g with Core Duo to Quads.

First of all: NONE of the 8930g notebooks support Q9100, Q9200 or QX9300 Quads. PERIOD! Acer has NEVER MADE a motherboard or BIOS (1.0 - 1.14) for 8930g that supports the MICROCODE of those processors.

That is a checked (physically) and confirmed FACT!
For your own sake - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.

    NOW GOOD NEWS!

IF your 8930g shows the following specs under "MOTHERBOARD" in CPU-Z:

    Model: Aspire 8930 PSMBOU-1234567
    Chipset: Intel PM45 Rev. 07
    Southbridge: Intel 82801IM (ICH9-M)

AND (VERY IMPORTANT!) it is using 1066mhz DDR3 memory (NOT DDR2!), which means that it FULLY supports 1066mhz FSB, then:

You CAN UPGRADE to OEM Q9000 SLGEJ 2.00GHz 6mb L2 cache.

This is how their Quad Core 8930g's come from FACTORY.

i have all this in my motherboard and u tell me my motherboard cant take Q9000? look in the page 93 in this forum ,, that i seen and i decide to buy that cpu Q9000 ,,,

    i really dont understand ,,

    don't be over dramatic
its far from garbage, sell the Q9000 and get a x9100 or similar
the laptop will fly with that CPU, like mine does, mine is running at 3.6ghz

    Hey all

So as I posted a couple of weeks ago I've been having serious slowdown issues with my Acer to the point all games are unplayable and just loading up firefox and other software is pretty sluggish.

I'm wondering whether anyone here has upgraded there Acer from Vista to Windows 7? If so did you notice an improvement and hence will I and if so noticeabley?

If I were to upgrade, which I've never done on a PC how exactly would it work? As simple as loading up my laptop, insert disk & follow instructions? Also would I lose the Acer hidden partition and all the ePower sofware and if so is this a big problem or will eveything run ok without it?

Finally what version would you reccommend and should I pick up the 64 bit version to make use of my 4gb of RAM? Would all software, drivers, updates etc all need a special 64 bit version and are these easy to obtain?

    Any help/advise would be awesome

    Cheers

if you want to upgrade and not do a full clean install, just put the disc in while your loaded in to vista(if your on vista 32bit though you cant update, you can only do a clean install if you go for 64bit), a window will open giving you the option to upgrade
i updated mine to win 7 when the beta was free and even then it had 99% of the drivers.

the 8930 will feel a lot snappier on win 7
and yes go for the 64bit version, silly not to really, win7 has most drivers and any it doesn't are on the acer site.
no you wont lose the hidden partion, not sure if there is an update for the Epower.

Thanks for the help shakenstirred. Would I not lose all paritions if I did a clean install, which I would have to do as my Vista is only 32 bit and I read that a clean install is necessary if going to windows 7 64bit? Also assuming I do upgrade, would I be able to use the same copy windows 7 on a new pc at somepoint?

no you wont lose the partions
i still have my hidden vista recovery acer partition(so if i sell lappy i can put it back to when i got it)
if you buy the retail version of win 7 64bit then yes you can move it to a new pc later but not 2 at the sametime though

Actually I do have one more question. When running the upgrade will it automatically leave/keep my partitions as they are (obviously the hidden partition plus C & D drives as was the default with my machine) or will I have to manually specify partitioning?

yes it will leave them as is
it will just put the new install on C and mark the old vista C as old and put it in a folder called old windows

Hey just wanted to thank you for the help with Windows 7. Got it pretty much sorted on Sunday, but not going to lie it was fairly time consuming (well took 12 hours start to finish) due to a lot of issues. Classic Microsoft, as soon as I got one thing fixed/working something else went wrong! However, good news is it's like having a brand new computer. Startup up is super fast, everything feels more streamlined and nippy and on the whole everything is more stable.

I've yet to test out anything too demanding, although football manager is so quick. On Vista it had become unplayably slow and now there is literally no load times. Going 64bit probably helped as my pc is now utilising all 4gb of RAM.

I'm curious to see how Starcraft 2 performs, as this was another game that was incredibly slow, laggy and frustrating, but I'm pretty confident it will run smoothly on medium settings.

I did have an issue with a lot of ACER drivers/programs not working or being compatible (a few work although not many) and the only area in which it's irritating is that the sound seems different. A tad tinnier and definitely quieter.

Well I was amazed at what I just found inside my laptop.

Guilty as charged, I swapped my 500GB HD with a 250GB SSD which may have helped heat my laptop.

anyway... playing fallout 3, my laptop shuts down.. no warning just turns off. feeling the back of the laptop and its VERY warm. The fan was going barmy so its definitely a heat problem. looked at the side and back vents they seem clear, took back off and the fan has a little dust on it but should be ok. Then I read on another forum about build up of lint under the fan. The fan is only held in by 3 small screws so i removed them, removed the fan and..... WOW look at all that fluff. My poor laptop, how the hell was it supposed to keep itself cool when it cant even breath! I hoovered this out (beware of any hoover which has static build up) and i thought id also check the heat sink on top of the GPU. I was wondering about putting an aftermarket fan on this but clearance was a big issue. Being me i fumbled with one screw thinking it would be too tight to remove anyway but it was VERY loose. noticing this i checked the rest and they were all loose. I've nipped them all up tight which should help the heat transfer from the gpu to the heat sink.... now i'm wondering. If the screws were all loose anyway will the thermal paste/pad contact have been sepperated just slightly and will need to be renewed.

Thanks for this post. I'd recently defluffed my 15 month old 8930G but had omitted to take the fan out, having seen this I decided to do just that and had the same problem, loads of fluff in the exit vents off the sides of the fan. Whilst in there I checked the screws on my graphics card heatsink but they seem tight enough to me, so I left this well alone. I'm hoping you've now solved the slight heating issues I've been experiencing recently.

You get rep from me. Cheers.

    Hi 8930G owners,

This is my 1st post on notebookreview, and I hope someone can help me
    with my card reader problem.

So, I'm running my 8930G under Vista Premium 32bits SP2.

The first time I inserted a sd-hc card in the card reader,
the driver installation took place, then ...nothing :(

The drive never appeared in Window explorer, even after "display updating".
I tried another sd card, an old mmc card without success.

I rebooted the notebook with the sd card inserted, nothing happened.

I upgraded the last drivers from Acer site, then from JMICRON site, and still when I inserted Sd cards nothing Happened

Totally desperate, I even phoned Acer support
They proposed to reinstall everything from scratch (as usual...)

Well, if someone already faced this problem and solved it, please tell me how.

    Regards,

    Laurent

I'm wondering if anyone has had the problem with the file CompPtcVUI.exe?
I've noticed recently that i've been suffering from a slow CPU and when checking which processes are running this file is constantly using up my CPU. It is located in the Acer Bio Protection folder. I don't know what is causing this program to start up or what I can disable to stop it running. I currently dont use the Bio Protection on my laptop and would like to stop this file running without deleting it.
Any help would be most grateful

Sometimes it goes as high as 70-75, then back down to 0. Most of the time it sits around the 40-45 range. I'm thinking of just uninstalling the Bio software as I don't really need it

First, if you've made your system restore disks, then you might as well delete it as you can easily enough restore it later if you decide to use it. If you haven't, and you want to play it safe ant avoid deleting it (just in case), then have you checked that Bio isn't starting up at bootup even though you don't use it? Presumably if the process is running then Bio is in some kind of auto start mode? I know it's part of the eData Security Management module which includes Fingerprint related software, so it seems it definitely relates to Bio, if that helps?

Hi, I am new to forums. I have owned and Acer Aspire 8930g for about 2 years and have the modified bios 1.14 with VT enabled. I am thinking about upgrading CPU and RAM and what to get some things straight. X9100 is comes with an unlocked multiplier? Does Q9000 come with an unlocked multiplier too? Upgrading the CPU to the Q9000 mean I would have to upgrade bios to the factory 1.20 to get it to work? Also is it possible to upgrade RAM over 4GB. I am hoping put in two 4GB sticks. I am 99% sure that the CPU can be upgraded to the Q9000, but want to get second opinion. I am running windows 7 64 bit. Here are my specs
    http://i51.tinypic.com/vraf0h.jpg
And any news on overclocking the CPU?

I'm just curious is anyone has had problems with the Acer Arcade Deluxe and it's updates. Got a copy of Green Zone and would usually use my PS3 for viewing Blu-Rays but decided to use the laptop. Started up the Acrade and was prompted to update the software. To cut a long story short the update basically crashed saying Windows Explorer was clashing with it. Had to restart and re-install Arcade, and couldn't watch Green Zone. Does anyone use the Arcade or do you use other Blu-Ray playing software?

Hi RickyRix2009. A few months ago I had a similar problem with Arcade Deluxe updates and like you had to reinstall it, back to the shipped version (from Restore Disks). I then endured multiple updates to get it up to date. Thankfully I don't use Blu-Ray much but I too would be interested to hear if anyone knows of any "non-acer" free software for viewing Blu-Ray that is compatible with the Acer Blu-Ray player.
I did research the topic at the time but the information I got at that time was that it was the only (free) program available that was compatible with the Acer. Not a huge help to you I know, but hopefully someone may chip in and let us know of any available alternative free compatible software...

I figured it's about time I join this thread. I'm looking into upgrading my Aspire 8930G in this last month of 2010, and was wondering what the most effective upgrade would be?

Personally, I've been looking at a harddrive upgrade, but hardware isn't really my thing. Is the performance gain of a 7200RPM drive (specifically, I'm looking at this one, which is a hybrid HDD/SSD), worth upgrading, or should I look at a CPU/GPU/RAM/etc. upgrade? I've been using Moo0 SystemMoniter, and the only bottleneck it ever shows in my system is my harddrive, so that leads me to believe it should be the first thing to go up. Quite frankly, the only thing I know that the hard drive needs to have for this notebook is a form-factor of 2.5". Does the SATA ... whatchamathingy matter? Win7-64, and I'm on the 9600MGT/P8400 model. Specifically, I'd like to do this without too much hassle or having to replace the fan (because for the life of me I cannot get one of those blasted screws out!)

(Pardon me for not really knowing what to type, haha. Just let me know what more information you need).

    Hi from France!
I have a problem with my 8930. It runs with a legal Windows 7 Home Premium (in French). My bios is 1.20 release.
I'm trying unsuccessfully to activate my webcam. Deviec manager sees a USB webcam, and Acer Crystal Eye software says it can't find Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
    Can anyone help me?
    Many thanks
    Jean-Philippe

just go straight for a SSD drive, its well worth it and yes it needs to be 2.5in sata
if you have 4gig ram thats as high as you can go

@Shakennstirred: I'd go straight for an SSD but I'm limited to about $100 and as I'm sure you know, finding a high-capacity SSD for that much just isn't going to happen.

By the SATA, I meant does the speed after the SATA matter? (1.5gb/s, 3gb/s, 6gb/s) Or does it have to be straight-up SATA? I really don't know hard drives for jack.

    Bonjour Jean-Philippe,

Same configuration but I don't have any problem with this camera, nor with "Windows Live Messenger", nor with the "Acer Crystal Eye webcam.EXE" utility.

The driver version of "Acer HD Crystal Eye webcam" is 6.1.7600.16543 (win7_gdr.100303-1505) from Microsoft.

    Regards,
    Michel.

    Hi Michel,
It seems that I use the same driver, acording to the dialog box properties.

How did you install your webcam?

    Cheers
