Make sure you put it in a suitably sealed coffin - you don't want to have it leak and pollute the environment :)

what kind of sticker are you after cause you said to protect the lid and thats the only one that has full coverage.

sure it may be fake leather but it adds some class to this laptop lol and it does protect the shell minorly

I sold my 8930g about 2 years ago but i miss it so much im looking for another.
there are a few cheap ones for sale with the T5750

I was wondering has there been any successful upgrade of this laptop! i havent seen any actual hard evidence.

Also Is it possible to put a quad core cpu in this laptop that was shipped with a T5750 cpu??
If so what is the best cpu possible for this model!

    thanks

things you can upgrade on this now.

    CPU T5750 2ghz dual core 667 fsb
    Upgrade - X9100 3ghz Dual-Core(unlocked to overclock) 1066fsb.

    Ram Upgrade to 6gb

    GPU - Can install a 9700mgt or a 9600m gt ddr3 or a QUADRO FX 3700m (same power as a gtx280m)

    Killer N wireless cards work.

2 Hard drive bays so tecnically you could have 2 x 1tb laptop hard drives

    or 2 solid state drives.

Express 54 slot can give you USB 3.0 Ports.

The screen can be replaced with a samsung brand that has 50more Nits brightness and improved quality from my research.

Heres my system rating with a x9100 OC'd to 3.4ghz per core stock voltage (UV at this BSODS)
    9700mgt ddr3 slightly overclocked upgraded from a 9600m gt ddr2
    and 6gb ram.

I still need a ssd and usually my gpu can rate at 6.6

    Hello Guys,

Im Since 2009 a Happy Owner of the 8930G

I did allot of research if my laptop supports Q9000
and it seemed That it can.
My infomation on CPU-z is the same as this

So I brought a barely new Q9000 ( one time before Used by somebody That Didn't do research before Buying That his Laptop did'nt support the Q9000)
    I installed and...

    i didn't get anything ... :(

Only The things you also Get if there is No CPU inside
    Or
No ram with my original CPU (T6400)

So all The Lights And Cinedash
And Yes, Cinedash works completely Without a CPU

I searched allot everywhere And Checked Allot

Its Not the Engeneers version or something
    No Visible Burn marks
Have Bios Version 1.20 (Also tried Downgrading it to 1.13 But also Nothing)
If i Put The T6400 Back it Just work Fine.

The Thing I coud'nt Find was hard word that it wasn't an MB.ASZ0B.001 That won't work with Q
I Think it is a MB.ASZ0B.004 Because It matched the CPU-z info back on page 93

Maybe Somebody else Can find hard words for it?
    I have the 8930G-644G32MN

And Does somebody have a Suggestion i could try?

    Thanks,

    Tyrone

Sorry For my Worse English, I have dyslection.

    check the MB>ASZ0B

its should be under the ram/memory

cpu-z says that for all motherboards i think its to do with bios.

Also you dont have a 1080p screen according to that model :<

shaken what settings do you use for your x9100 voltage wise etc.

IM using the ES sample with E0 stepping and can only get to 3.4 on stock voltage, i just want to know a good ballpark on the voltage for 3.6ghz

As far as i go with this laptop, i like it more and more ...

The only problem now , that i see is the KG that it weights :p

I am a Desktop fan , but i have sold my Desktop to buy this laptop. And now i try to move it from house to house, and ... the result is that its too freaky heavy !

    But OK.

In the new games we don't have serious problem , but in the Prototype 2 , i can clearly see that after 1 hour of playing , the laptop especially the GPU is burning up.

(I have changed the stick, with Arctic Cooling Silver 5, to GPU,CPU and from inside clearance,so this won't problem ).

But i still have some kind of .. "sticky" things during the play after 1 hour, but it's OK , I can handle them out .

I don't know, what is the current prize of a laptop like that...does anyone know, this days ?

    Update to last.
Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M 1GB DDR3, Chip G92-985-A2, NF 4968.00P, 62.92.33.00.00 , 06120503 rom Made in the USA was not able to get a screen at boot or with attached screen laptop seams to boot but again no screen proof of this.
I have heard so much about this being the max that this laptop will take regards video enhancement but cannot get the thing to work all help or advice would be welcome.
My own vid card is the 9700M GT @ 512mb ddr3 so should be a welcome boost with the 3700 1gb ddr3 if I can get it to work??

you would probably need to try doing a blind flash to make the card a gtx 280m with same default clocks as the quadro card.

does it even boot properly as in you can hear it boot.

also try removing the 4gb stick of ram and booting it. may be a system limitation

i also should be going for this card after i get the dual core extreme processor i saw it going cheap Dell Precision M6400 nVidia Quadro 1GB FX3700M Video Graphic Card D949K it says used pulled from this laptop but worried if have same problem as dutchanon when i get it. but read if you get it all you got to do is go to nvidia site and download drivers for the gtx 280m and it turns it from quadro to geforce card. but if he saying not getting a screen at boot then not sure what would need doing. and to person asking saying they want get the 8930g again if your in uk someone selling it for 500 pound on usedsandwell.co.uk with the 512mb 9700 card.

Will give this a try and let you know Squee666 could well be a limitation with the 4GB ram module as with two x 4GB the same result NO Boot etc etc .
Just hope the card is not a dud will also try cooking for ten min's if that fails also results to come............

Sorry guys amended signature and yes its the 512 Mb ddr3 9700M GT card which came with notebook. I have since tried to get the 3700 working but with no success the laptop just does not start with this card in am having serious doubts as to its working ability will be getting in touch with the american sales dept over it and see what they have to say.
Doing a blind flash of the bios is a last resort as this could seriously damage the card beyond my realms of fixing it.
Am wondering if there is a place in the UK where I can send it to get it tested and working for the Acer 8930G so its as all say "put it in and it works" Ha Ha Plus this is supposed to be the 1GB DDR3 model although checking all the numbers on the Nvidea chip on the card does not reveal too many answers on the net??

OK, so I have quite a serious problem with my 8930G. Check this thread for details and what I have already done.

Right now, I'm thinking that it's one of three things: PSU (unlikely), Battery, Graphics card.

I'm hoping that I'll get some advice on what I should do here. Thank you for any help I get.

The card was purchased from the USA and my reply email is as follows:
    Quote" Hi there,

To be honest, we are not sure which laptop this card can be used on.We just got these cards from our vendor and these cards come in a pretty good condition. Our engineer use some specific testing board to test them and they are working good. For more questions, please feel free to contact us again. Thanks!

    Regards,
    GFSI

I have tried fitting this card and the laptop just does not want to start,
No Screen, No Boot activity. it does light up on the Cine Dashboard and Lights the power light from the on / off switch and thats it.
I cannot find any info on the web by googleing the serial numbers as to what this card was fitted into and looking at the card there is no visible damage whatsoever.
I would appreciate more info on a blind flash of the Gpu Bios or any other method of getting more info off this card.
I have checked the Nvidia site and the numbers on the card do confirm the it is a Quadro FX 3700M 1GB DDR3
Will persist in trying to get this to work just to max out this laptop models capabilities.
    :D :D :D

I have an AS8930-6386 (2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1680 x 945 screen, Super Multi DL DVD). The DVD drive seems to have stopped working. It can read CDs, although it sounds like a plane taking off when it spins up. It struggles to read DVDs and fails. The laptop is no longer under warranty. I would like to replace the drive rather than get an external drive. Is this possible without dismantling the laptop? If I have to dismantle it, I know that I will never be able to put it back together.

    I have a question. I'm a little confused.

People are saying the X9100 is the fastest CPU you can get for this laptop. But, the T9900 has higher specs, so I'm not sure what they mean. I know the x9100 has an unlocked multiplier, but why would that matter if the AS 8930G doesn't support over-clocking?

So is it better to go with the x9100 or the T9900?

that and the fact the t9900 is same spec as x9100 except for the lower power consumption due to the fact the x9100 has a higher tdp. but thats because its meant for some overclocking

Hi Shakennstirred, hope you don't mind me asking what multiplier and VID values you've used to OC your 8930? I've upgraded to the same CPU & GPU & a SSD, and I'm interested and cautious at the same time. You seem to be a little more tech savvy than me so I'd rather ask than just dive in.....Thanks.

I have the X9100, from laptop monkey on ebay, was £90. It seems to be consensus the best to get. Very happy.

You can also fit 6Gb RAM, 4+2, it works.

SSD also a great boost for operating system + favourite programmes.

    Thanks Shakennstirred.

I already have SSD on it 64 GB Kingston.

    I will soon buy Corsair 4 GB + 2 GB memmory DDR3.

But .. what about the cpu ?

Edit : I searched the ebay ,and the X9100 doesn't show to me from the laptopmonkey less than 200 GBP ..Come on dude ? Are you sure ?

I can take it only from : CPU Intel CORE2 X9100 QBDW ES Mobile Processor 3.06G 6M 1066 | eBay

With 105 GBP ...And i am not sure about the quality.

    Hi Peeps
Does anyone have this Vid card working as mine just does not want to function no start and only lights up cine dash panel, does not boot SSD not doing anything.
Last hope will be to blind flash the card but need info on this as its not your everyday workaround on a laptop.

Fitting back in the 9700M GT and everything is OK laptop has run less than 50 hrs from new and all power supplies are OK.

Are all quadro cards stamped on the gpu chip with the name Quadro ?

Mine is not it has the numbers on which I posted earlier ie:
    G92-985-A2, NF 4968.00P, 62.92.33.00.00 , 06120503 rom
Have been pulling my hair out what little there is over this so come on guys who has this GPU fitted and how did the install go ????????

    I have a couple questions.

So I want to upgrade my memory, from 4GB to 6GB. But I also want to know, will it really matter what brand / kind of memory I buy? The max I can handle is 1066Mhz, so, as long as it has that, will it really matter much?
Does anyone have any suggestions for memory type?

Another question I have is, if I were to buy just one 8GB mem stick, even if my laptop will only read 6Gb, would that save me some power over having 2 mem sticks?
    Corsair 8 GB Module CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9

The other thing I want to upgrade is my video card. I want to get an FX3700M but I don't want to pay an arm + leg for it. I found this one on Ebay,
    HP NVIDIA (P/N: 488125-001)
Will this card work? It says HP on it, so I'm wondering if that means it's an HP specific model or not.

So, after having several people on this forum assure me that the AS8930G can support 6GB of memory, I went and upgraded. But it doesn't work. :(

I went and bought a 2GB + a 4GB stick, to combine them, and get 6GB of RAM. Well it didn't work. My laptop boots, but it says it only has 4GB installed.

I told everyone my MB serial number ends in 00 and asked if that would cause a problem and everyone was like, Nope.

So I went and bought 6GB at my own expense/peril and what do you know... it only reads 4GB.

    Where did I mess up?

(Note: The memory module on top is 4GB but SIW only reads 2, because 6GB is not supported).

it does work 6gb does. before i joined the forums i always had 4gb, and i read it can support 6gb. so after many times checking over i decided purchase 2gb more i sold one of the 2gb sticks and got a 4gb and kept one of the 2gb sticks that can with it. i took it apart installed it put together and went into bios. all i saw at first was it still saying 4gb when 6gb was installed i thought like you maybe it dont support. i took it apart again and all it was, was that one of the sticks had not been pushed in all the way until it clicks i did that put it back together again and went into bios and happy to see it works saying 6gb installed. i also right clicked my computer and said 6gb memory. all i wanna get for laptop next s the x9100 processor with 3.06ghz going cheap now i see and also the 1gb nvidia quadro fx 3700m but problem is someone bought that and tried and it not work for him. he was testing it and thinks maybe bought faulty card. no one else has commented in the forums saying they installed that video card and it works so i still waiting on that but i know the processor is next as i see alot have it. at moment playing darksiders 2 on the 8930g laptop but it stutters in some areas just like the first one did, and dislike the rpg in it but liking the game.

Hey Agony, I have noticed that you have the Q9000 installed, nice. I have the Acer 8930G-664G50Bn version and was wondering if that would work in mine?? I don't have the money to buy one and for it not to work.
I have 6GB of PC3-10600S installed and I am going to upgrade the T6600 for the BEST possible processor that will work in my laptop version.

Any help is very welcome! :)

Why is your screen res 1680 x 945?? Its native res is 1920 x 1080..
As for your DVD, My drive packed in ages ago, It is a simple thing to replace. Take of the back panel and there is a single screw which holds the drive in place.

why did you buy a 2gb and a 4gb sticks when you already had 2x 2gb sticks in the 8930g? seems a waste of money.
i see from the picture you posted that the sticks dont match one is 1333mhz, the 8930g doesnt surport 1333mhz it runs 1066mhz sticks so that maybe the problem.
all i did was remove one 2gb stick and replaced it with a 4gb 1066mhz stick and the 8930 boots and runs fine and shows 6gb in windows
