The problem is the Mis-match of the memory. I replaced my Stock 2x2GB PC3-8500R with 4 & 2GB of PC3-10600R and it has made a notable difference. Next step is a new processor...Thinking about the Q9000.

No problem here with a 2GB 1066mhz + 4GB 1333mhz. Of course both run at the lower one, at 1066mhz.

    Hi All
This card refuses to work in this laptop and I have been assured it was a working card from the supplier.
I have done some more research on this card and see that the power supply has to be upgraded to get it to work ??? I heard that it can be blind flashed to turn it into a gforce 280gtx but am clueless as to how this can be achieved without serious bench instruments and power units.
So my advise to all about buying ex Dell, Lenovo, HP quaro FX 3700 wait until someone actually achieves the result of getting it to work in the 8930G and can tell us how this was achieved

    Hi guys! I lost my old charger and now i don't know what model I need to buy;
I've already tried with a model found on amazon but it didn't fit with my notebook because it was a 1.7mm pin instead of a 2.5mm so can anyone tell me the spec ( v, A, w ) for my aspire 8930g 904g50bn with quad core q9000 and nvidia 9600gt?
The original adaptor was it's 7.11A and 19 v but i don't remeber the power (watt)

Thanks to veryone, and sorry for my english!

    7.11A x 19V = 135.09 VA
    135.09 VA x 0.8 = 108.072 Watt
So u need 100 Watt or 110 Watt charger

The only info that is written on charger is 19V, 7.11A.

    Hi people !!!

Iam following this forum for about half year but I was never posting here :p its very useful and good, but now I have problem + request that I cannot find here nor anywhere else. I have some issues with my FX3700m under windows 7 x64 / tried windows 8 x64 , many of drivers but its still the same. When iam playing some newer games (Just Cause 2(high/medium settings),Fifa2013 (high) Sleeping Dogs(low)) the games runs smooth even on highest details but than after few minutes ( its random ) game starts to lag for some time ( random again ) and than running smooth again. Changing details is not helping at all just look worse and same fps. As I said, it happens with any driver , its not an overheating issue as I installed one extra fan in the HDD place and the card runs full load around 60C. The weird thing is that if I play some older game ( Witcher maxed details ) the game runs smooth all the time whitout any issues. I have done some investigation already ( been trying to solve it out about week) and I experience some DCP latency however all my other drivers are up to date and its caused by nvlddmkm.sys . I tried to disable every possible device in windows to improve the latency but no succes. The fx3700 is a HP card, I tried many different bios files but no success. Any help much appreciated.

    Some of my specs:
    CPU: E8400
    GPU: Fx3700m 1GB
    CHIP G92-985-A2
    BIOS 62.92.51.00.05

    RAM: 4GB DDR3

    Clocks :
    Core clock: 550
    Memory clock: 799
    Shader clock:1375

Currently using bios from this forum, is a Clevo bios 62.92.5B.00.06 (different bios versions don't have much impact on lagging the issue still persist)

Powermizer disabled in windows registry ( I had some problems with clocks at the beginning) clocks now stable checking with GPU-Z
Over nor Underclocking helps. I would like to try disabling some options in bios however I have just the 1.21 VT enabled one whitout EISZ unlocked (advanced bios features (menu)).

Sorry for the chaotic post guys still trying to add some infos, as I said any help appreciated and if someone have SOME unlocked bios PLSSSSS upload as I could not fid it anywhere ( lots of dead links everywhere )

Flashing different Acer BIOS (1.10,1.13,1.14,1.20,1.21 tried all) have some impact on the delay between lags (running best at 1.14 modded VT enabled idknw why) however the issue is still there. I never had any problems with this laptop and my GT 9700m still working even overclocked but the performance gap between gt9700 and fx3700 is huge running much better even on low clocks however low clocks don't solve the issue just change the random delay between lags. Tried just those 4 games mentioned above.
Plssss people HELP ;( I know that here are still some smart people on this forum.

    Kind regards

    Hello,

Yes you need more powerful charger as fx 3700m has bigger power consumption than the stock 9700m however the card is able to boot also work but not in full clock speed. As soon as u stress GPU the card stop working or PC turns off. I am using 150W charger but 120W is enough.

so its official the fx3700m works. so i can get it then. also is it possible i read to install it and use the gtx280 drivers to make it work as i read you dont need flash card to 280 but all you need to do is download the drivers for the gtx280 to convert it. if works i can have 1gb of graphic memory in laptop from 512mb 9700m as i finding now 512mb is now in few games coming standard video memory for games. at moment playing darksiders 2 on my laptop 8930g does stutter a few times but having fun love laptop gaming.

    Hi There 8930 fans,

Who has experience with opensuse and Acer machines? :))) and furthermore.. is it easy to disassemble and re-assemble the laptop? I bought a new housing due to the fact that my current one is not able to lock the akku/battery......

:) I saw the service manual, but I am not sure, if I have to take out all of the parts, or just the mobo with the devices on it...or if it works like that...

Is there a chance to install a better cpu than Q9000 ? or a better vidcard as 9700Gt M?

    Thanks in advance

I dissasambled few laptops and acers are overall not so had to dissasamble just be carefull dont rush ;)
Best CPU that u can put in this machine is x9100 and q9000 havent seen no 8930g running better than q9000 quad. There where few rummors about all other q processors but no proof.
Best GPU u can put into this machine is Quadro FX 3700m mxm 2.1 version. Much better than 9700m (maybe 2/3 times better realtime performance).

thanks just looked and it is c0 stepping and its qbdw priced at 91.90£ and free post and packing so after i will have a 2.53ghz core 2 duo lying around . do you think are laptops will ever be able to go past fx3700m in future or thats it. amazing my laptop lasted me many years and in perfect condition i did have wear on touch pad part with it turning the grey to white with wear but fixed it with black nail polish so on touch pad part i masking taped it and put all black nail polish on it and rest of palm rest is normal colour and buttons looks great if the black wears off all you do is put more nail polish to it.

okay guys. need some help, ive read the forum for a while now atleast an hour. and ive found that the fasest gpu/cpu and ram this laptop can take is:

cpu: Q9000 quad core and x9100 dua core.

ive found that i can install new graphics cards im a bit fuzzy on this topic. can some one advise me what graphics cards i can use ? possibly the fastest ddr3 one in here ? is there any 1gb ddr3 graphics cards i can use ? some one mentioned earlier in the hread that i could use a Quadro FX 3700m. is this actuall possible ? can some body link me to anything related ?

and as for ram, ive seen that people can only upgrade to 6gb ram which is enough. can any one advise what ram makes i should go for and speeds ?

hard drive, as far as i know i can only go for 7200rmp is this correct ? or can i get a faster hard drive ?

also. ive read that, its possible to overclock your motherboard speed to allow faster ram modules and cpu speeds? is this correct?

    so yeah thats it guys....

id genereally like o know whats the best/fastest things in this laptop with the drivers included aswell. ?

    thanks peeps.

ram you want 1066mhz, no point going higher as the motherboard doesn't support higher..
hdd yes 7200rpm drives work fine, I have one in mine along with an SSD drive

Hi man the best you cen put into this is indeed the q9000 or x9100 depends for what you want to use the laptop. If its for gaming still go for the x9100 ( i buyed just e8435 witch is 3.06 ghz the same as x9100 but with locked multiplier(and is half price), you dont realy need more even in combination with fx3700m for gaming)

The best graphics card for this machine is Qadro FX3700m/GTX 280m.

Maximum amount of ram witch you can put in is 6Gb witch you will mot utilize while gaming... 4 is enough... I heard few rummors of putting 8Gb ( becaouse is the PM 45 maximum ) but no proof. Max ram frequency is 1066 no point to buy 1333.

Best hdd is SSD now ... or if you want some cheaper solution then try some hybrid hard drives. Iam personaly using seagete momentus xt 500 gb witch is realy good but you can go also with the newer and faster 750gb version.

And drivers? you have to try ... realy hard to tell ... I am using laptopvideo2go drivers for the card and all the newest druivers for the rest ( not the original acer drivers... but newest drivers for chipset, wifi and audio)

I saw some overclocking attemps and succes but all of my attemps where unsuccesfull so i cannot help you with this :p

    My acer :

    CPU: E8435 3.06 Ghz
GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 3700m with GTX 280m drivers
    RAM: 6GB 1066 Mhz
    HDD: Momentus XT 500 Gb

And i still can play any new game on medium / the more demandable low details but any game older than 2 years high settings.

    Hope it helps

    Here i have

CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme X9100 3.06Ghz (QHBQ) <--This Version is E0 Stepping, runs cooler but costs more. (luckily got mine for £91 of ebay)
GPU: 9700m GT with nvidia official drivers. (upgraded from 9600m gt. If yo upgrade from this to a quadro 3700m or 9700m gt you need to buy a new cooling bracket)
    RAM: 6gb 1066mhz
HDD: Crucial M4 60gb SSD (on loan to test speeds). 2nd HDD 500gb Seagate.

Games play decently but newr stuff has to got lower. i say with a quadro fx 3700m i could get big improvements especially with my graphic settings tweaks.

Also x9100 CPU. Mine runs at stock speeds but i have it undervolted to 1.2125 volts(can do 1.2000 without crashing) from 1.2375(stock)

I have had it overclocked to 3.6ghz but had to put it on 1.25 volts to prevent failure.

Yea 6gb was maximum ram for me also. SSD your best bet and having a Big hard drive as your second for files. Use laptopvideo2go forums for alternative drivers and latest oes for sound touchpad etc.

Btw guys i tried the Esata Port and its fast!!!.

Here are speeds. Was writing to a 2tb Samsung green drive in an icybox case.

    USB write speed: Peaked 40mb/s
ESATA write speed from 500gb 5400rpm HDD: 65mb/s
ESATA write speed from SSD (no botteneck): 140mb/s

Shaken whats windows 8 like on this laptop. i really dislike the OS but nice to know hpw it runs on this hefty thing

There are many 8930G models. My particular model (A8930-6386) has 1680 x 945.

Where did you get your drive?

Does anyone have BIOS with SLIC 2.1, VT and advanced menu ? (Acer_Aspire_8930_v1.20_SLIC21_ADV_menu_EIST.zip)

There is a link to it here but is dead.

If one has it, could you please upload it somewhere? You would really save my day.....thanks

I chose this one deliberately. I bought it because of its large screen, but I was not interested in movies. Also, I have seen laptops running at 1920x1200 and text was too small for me, although I did forget to adjust for the screen size:
    1920x1200 on a 17" diagonal = 133 pixels per inch (ppi)
    1920x1080 on 18.4" = 120 ppi
    1680x945 on 18.4" = 105 ppi

Maybe HD would not have been too small.

Still, good to know about the dual-lamp inverter, even though I sincerely doubt that I could upgrade the screen myself. I will definitely look into replacing the DVD burner.

It seems I'm not getting any help from posting in the hardware and upgrades section, so I'll try here.

I've just bought a Q9000 cpu for my 8930g, but I've got no joy getting it to work. It won't boot at all. I stuck the old cpu back in and it works just fine.

Here is the question. Are all 8930g's compatible with the Q9000 cpu?? If not, how would you know?

I either have a faulty cpu or my motherboard doesn't support it.

I have updated the bios to v1.2 and still no joy.

okay guys, it seems, that, i have come to the conclusion of this.

CPU i can install a Q9000 or a x9100. could some one tell me the disadvantages of them and the advantages ? i am lead to belive that the more processors the better. less heat and more calculation time within the procesor ? is this correct ?

GPU im lead to belive i can install a Qadro FX3700m but i have read that i would need to purchase a new cooling bracket.

HARD DRIVE ive read 7200 is supported only.

RAM iver read all i can install is ddr3 1066mhz 6gb ram.

could some one advice me parts i may need for the graphics card or any other things i may need ?

also, ive read that some one used a driver for the grapics card. and i need to know what driver i should use ?

also. i know this laptop can have a avermedia a310 in it ? im not too sure. i found that you can buy exress cards to fit with tv also. but could i buy one of these cards and fit it or anything ? or is there any card i could buy to watch tv on this beast ?

can any one help please ?

i have my acer aspire 8930g coming in the mail to me as we speak and will be here friday so id like to order parts for it tonight.

no not all 8930g will run the Q9000, its only certain motherboard serial numbers, cant remember the numbers of hand but its in this thread somewhere..
its more than likely yours doesn't then it being a faulty cpu, get a X9100 the will defiantly work.

other post on about what will run in a 8930g
on the harddrive front, SSD's also run in the 8930g

okay thanks for the usefull answer :)

you didnt mention anything about gpu, could you help me in this area ? as this is my main issue i dont know alot on it.
would the gpu i mentioned work ? and if it does, could you suggest somewhere to buy it ? would i need to buy a different cooling bracket aswell ? is there anything else i need to buy to get the gpu to fit/work ? such as drivers and things.
also could you explain or help me with the express card slot or the avermedia tv thing ?

so would you advise that i wait untill ive got my laptop to actually purchase the cpu, cause that way i could find out my motherboard version ? how would i do this ?
what would be the benifits between the quad core and the dual core processor. could you explain ? im uner the infulence the quad core is better and faster even at slightly slower speeds ? its got 2 more cores ?
    id be so greatful.

I believe the motherboard number is under the ram.
I think some have the Qadro FX3700m running and yeah you need a different cooler bracket, some haven't be able to get it running but I don't know the reason for that
express card slot I have a usb3.0 card.
the quad core will be fast in some apps as long as they can use all 4 cores, in some cases the X9100 can be faster because of the higher mhz

    right i understand.

ill find out when i recieve it,

as for the cooling bracket, could you show me a link for the type of cooling bracket i need or tell me the bracket id need ?

could i use the express card for an avermedia thasts available on ebay ? like this ?

    AVERMEDIA,E554,TV CARD,EXPRESSCARD,DVB-T,EXPRESS | eBay

but generally speaking the processor, a quad core would be faster if it used all 4 cores ? or would you suggest going for the x9100 ? is that a better option. ? would i be able to simply take the old one out and put this one in and the laptop would turn on straight away, i know i need to undervolt it, could you link me to somewhere that i can find some usefull information on this ?

all the info you need is in this thread, everything your asking has been covered many times..
I don't know anything about what cooler bracket as I haven't done that upgrade so haven't looked into it
    the tv card should work.
as for cpu, the x9100 will run in any 8930g the q9000 will not so it really depends on what your motherboard serial is

What are people's thoughts on upgrading the 8930g rather than buying a new better spec'd machine?

I absolutely love my 8930g and for what I need it for, it's more than adequate. I've just bought a Q9000 cpu that doesn't work, so I'm stuck with that, although I am thinking of getting an X9100. I'm running Windows 8 64bit with 6gb of RAM so compared to today's pc's, it's still a pretty good machine.

Is there anything similar out there today with a much better spec worth getting? Unless it's something pretty spectacular, I think I will spend a little money on making mine a little faster rather than selling it for next to nothing to buy something that I won't enjoy as much.

    Should be stickied.

But the part you need to upgrade from a 9600mgt to a 9700mgt or a Quadro fx 3700m
aka any mxm 3a card from mxm 2.1 will require a new heatsink.

    Part Number is 60.AP70N.001
I knwo i replaced mine and had to look htrough over 200 pages and 2 different part numbers.

i repeat 60.AP70N.001 is for the heatsink if you upgrade gpu
